• Schema objects not visible in SQL Server Management Studio 2008

  I'm experiencing a weird problem with a SQL login. When I connect to the server in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (2008) using this account, I cannot see any of the tables, stored procedures etc. that this account should have access to on a particular database. When I connect to the same server within Visual Studio (2008) with the same account everything is there. When I connect with the same account on a Virtual Machine everything is there. I've also had a co-worker connect to the server using the same login and he's able to view everything as well. I use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio all day connecting to different servers and databases and I've never experienced this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can diagnose this problem? I've checked to make sure I don't have any Table filters etc. There's several database on this server and I'm able to see the correct tables that this account has access to in the other databases just fine. Running this query lists the tables I'm expecting to see. SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES

Is there a way to fix this?

  I'm getting a new laptop this Christmas and I was wondering if it's good enough for what I do. I'll be playing games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) and other NFS games. Also silent hunter and flight sim. I also browse the internet download stuff like, watch movies occasionally type documents with word, edit videos, and transfer files. To be more specific is the hdd big enough? is the ram big enough? • Access denied when trying to read information about SharePoint groups

  I am trying to get the membership of a group in WSS 3.0. I am doing this in an elevated permissions block. The group exists. The identity of the application pool for the web application is in the dbo role in the content database. The code works on my development server, but not on another server, which leads me to believe there is something wrong with the permissions or configuration on this server, maybe something in dcomcnfg? Here are some lines from the SharePoint log that seem to be related: PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x08000000, have 0x00000000 Unknown SPRequest error occurred. • [Android] Launching activity from widget

  Hi, I'm trying to do something which really ought to be quite easy, but it's driving me crazy. I'm trying to launch an activity when a home screen widget is pressed, such as a configuration activity for the widget. I think I've followed word for word the tutorial on the Android Developers website, and even a few unofficial tutorials as well, but I must be missing something important as it doesn't work. • Getting the current EnvDTE or IServiceProvider when NOT coding an Addin

  I am coding up some design time code. I want to use this snippet: (Found here) var dte = (EnvDTE.DTE) GetService(typeof(EnvDTE.DTE)); if (dte != null) { var solution = dte.Solution; if (solution != null) { string baseDir = Path.GetDirectoryName(solution.FullName); } } Problem is that this does not compile. (GetService is not a known method call) I tried adding Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell (and Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.10.0) but it did not help. In looking around on the internet I found that you need a IServiceProvider to call this. But all the examples that show how to get an IServiceProvider use a EnvDTE. So, to get the current EnvDTE I need IServiceProvider. But to get an IServiceProvider I need an EnvDTE. (There is a hole in my bucket...) So, here is my question: In a normal WPF Application, how can I get the current instance of EnvDTE? NOTE: I am not looking for any old instance of EnvDTE. I need the one for my current Visual Studio instance (I run 3-4 instances of Visual Studio at a time.)

• Comet and Simultaneous Ajax request

  Hi , I am trying to use a COMET solution using ASP.NET . Trouble is i want to implement sending and notification part in the same page. On IE7, whenever i try to send a request ,it just gets queued up. After reading on internet and stackoverflow pages i found that i can only do 2 simultaneous asyn ajax requests per page. So until i close my comet Ajax request,my 2nd request doesnt get completed ,doesnt even go out from the browser. And when i checked with Firefox i just one Ajax comet request running all time..so doesnt that leave me one more ajax request? Also the solution uses IRequiressessionstate for Asynchronous HTTP Handler which i had removed.but still it creates problems on multiple instances of IE7. I had one work around which is stated here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282402 it means we can increase the request limit from registry by default is 2. By changing "MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server" key in hive "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" we can increase the number of requests. Basically i want to broadcast information to multiple clients connected to a server using Comet and the clients can also send messages to the Server. Broadcasting works but the send request back to server doesnt work. Im using IIS 6 and ASP.NET . Are there any more workarounds or ways to send more requests?   Here's the deal: I'm moving a .NET website to Python. I have a database with passwords hashed using the System.Security.Cryptography.SHA1Managed utility. I'm creating the hash in .NET with the following code: string hashedPassword = Cryptographer.CreateHash("MYHasher", userInfo.Password); The MYHasher block looks like this: <add algorithmType="System.Security.Cryptography.SHA1Managed, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=blahblahblah" saltEnabled="true" type="Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Security.Cryptography.HashAlgorithmProvider, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Security.Cryptography, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=daahblahdahdah" name="MYHasher" /> So for a given password, I get back and store in the database a 48 byte salted sha1. I assume the last 8 bytes are the salt. I have tried to reproduce the hashing process in python by doing a sha1(salt + password) and sha1(password + salt) but I'm having no luck. My question to you: How are the public keys being used? How is the password rehashed using the salt. How is the salt created? (e.g., When I say saltEnabled="true", what extra magic happens?) I need specific details that don't just reference other .NET libraries, I'm looking for the actual operational logic that happens in the blackbox. Thanks!

  So I created an Outlook Add-in and used the click-once setup to deploy it. The setup runs fine when the user is administrator, but otherwise: no go. Running the setup with "run as..." and logging in as admin works, but than the add-in is installed under the admin, not the current user. The addin doesn't show up in outlook. Examine the registry keys in HKCU hive e.g. you will find two interesting registry keys that appear under your HKCU hive: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\TestKey registry key containing registry value TestValue You now also have HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\User Settings\TestPropagation registry key with Count value set to 1 But on my machine, the keys are not created... What can I try next?

• Blackberry message text is all white on white cannot read - Outlook 2007

  Hi, I have a user that has Outlook 2007. When a certain person sends her an email from their blackberry the text is all white. If you copy all the text and place it in Word and change the font color you can see the email. The recipient is the only person that has the trouble with email from the blackberry device from this certain person. Everyone else can see the bb messages fine. Any ideas on what to check? I made sure the theme was set to none and that all fonts selected were installed (changed it to arial.) All other emails sent to the recipient are fine from everyone. The user that sends from the blackberry also has a PC. When he sends emails from the machine it looks fine for the troubled recipient. It is only when sending from the bb to that certain person that we get the white on white "invisible" text. Thank you for any help.

User types a word to search for eg const string searchFor = "Guinea"; const char nextLetter = ' ' It looks in the list and returns 2 records "Guinea and Guinea Bissau " User types a word to search for eg const string searchFor = "Gu"; const char nextLetter = 'i' returns 3 results. This is the function but I would like to speed it up. • C# Application Calling Powershell Script Issues

  The contract name 'IMyService' could not be found in the list of contracts implemented by the service 'MyService'.. --- System.InvalidOperationException: The contract name 'IMyService' could not be found in the list of contracts implemented by the service 'MyService'. This is driving me crazy. I have a WCF web service that works on my dev machine, but when I copy it to a Virtual Machine that I am using for testing, I get the error that seems to indicate that I am not implementing the interface, but it does not make sense because the service does work on my windows xp IIS. the Virtual machine uses Windows Server 2003 IIS. Any ideas? One thing to note here is that I get this error on my VM even while just trying to access the service in a web browser as the client. Note: I am using principalPermissionMode="UseWindowsGroups", but that is not a problem on my local machine. I just add myself to the appropriate windows group. • Searching for a specific option in a man page

  I often find myself man'ing a command just to learn about one specific option. Most of the time I can search to the option just fine, unless it's something like ffmpeg or gcc where I have to step through about 40 matches until I get to the actual description of the option... Sometimes I can get lucky and search for the word "options" to get close and then refine it from there, but it would be nice if I could reliably jump straight to the option in question. It would be cool if there was a tool that could parse out the options and build a database on which you could do searches, but after looking at the groff markup for a few pages I've determined it would only be a best-guess effort due to the lack of meta-information in groff markup... In my ideal world woman mode in emacs would support searching for specific options... :) Any tips for jumping straight to a specific option in a man page?

• Why would Firefox not be able to visit Google anymore?

  Lately I've noticed that my Firefox Browser was taking a long time when I would search Google, e.g. 3 seconds before I would see any results. If I search for a three-word phrase, it just hangs trying to connect: I removed all add-ons but it still does this. I thought it might be something with my router, but Chrome, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer all work fine. Bing works fine in Firefox. Here's my Firefox version information: Otherwise I can still use Firefox, e.g. I'm using it to post this question, but I do notice that when I browse with it, images are often "broken" for a split second before they appear, as if it is having a hard time pulling them from a remote server. Other browsers don't do this. What could be causing Firefox to hang when searching Google?

• Intermittent Connection Issues to SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM

  The problem I am facing is a very complex one and inspite of trying to gather a root cause of the problem, I am standing at the same place after 2 months with just bits and pieces of information.Here is a scenario: There is a windows 2003 server which uses an system DSN ODBC connection. I looked into the driver properties and it is as follows: Name Version File SQL Server 2000.86.3959.00 SQLSRV32.DLL Now, this system DSN has been given configured with TCP\IP in Network Libraries and 'determine port dynamically' is checked. Now, lets come to the database destination. It is hosted on Windows 2008 having SQL 2008 R2 RTM version 64-bit. Now, I will give you a an overview about the events that happen and whatever troubleshooting I could perform: I get an email saying 'blah blah' failed and the only message their application gets is 'cannot connect to database' I go the SQL Server logs and find the following information: Login failed for user ''. Reason: An attempt to login using SQL authentication failed. Server is configured for Windows authentication only. [CLIENT: 10.0.0.xx Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 58.] A quick search shows that this error may come when an SQL Server is configured with windows authentication but its not true. We have mixed mode and connection issue is intermittent. This SQL Server is configured to run on a local system account but since we use only SQL Server accounts to connect to this, there should not be any Kerberos errors. When I run a profiler trace and see only 'existing connections', i see a lot of them coming from my client server displaying the sql user but NO hostname is shown. Textdata field shows TCP\IP information along with some arithabort and ansi-null settings. I am just stuck on a dead end because this connection issue appears intermittently. • MSMQ first Message.Body in queue is OK, all following Message.Body in queue are empty

  I send a handful of identical (except for Id#, obviously) messages to an MSMQ queue on my local machine. The body of the messages is a serialized XElement object. When I try to process the first message in the queue, I am able to successfully de-serialize the Message.Body object and save it to file. However, when trying to process the next (or any subsequent) message, the Message.Body is absent, and an exception is thrown. I have verified the Message ID's are correct for the message attempting to be processed. The XML being serialized is properly formed. Any ideas? Cannot recognize the serialization format." How does this work fine the first time but not after that? I have tried message.Dispose() after retrieving it but it did not help. • How to cluster two IIS servers for failover?

  We have IIS servers running in 2 machines hosting few webservices which provided some integration services to an old document Mgmt system, word/excel related service, etc.... We need to cluster/load balance these 2 IIS in order to achieve a fail-over. i.e If one of the IIS server is down, the other on should be able to handle the request. The reverse proxy used in the DMZ is also IIS 7.5 Our overall business application is in fact a J2EE one and we have successfully deployed on a weblogic cluster installed on the same two machines and load balance from the same above mentioned IIS reverse proxy at DMZ. But we do not know how to achieve this in case of IIS.
