  • How do you get the host address and port from a System.Net.EndPoint?

    I'm using a TcpClient passed to me from a TcpListener, and for the life of me I can't figure out a simple way to get the address and port it's connected to. The best I have so far is _client.Client.RemoteEndPoint.ToString(); which returns a string in the form FFFF::FFFF:FFFF:FFF:FFFF%00:0000. I've managed to extract the address and port using Regular Expressions, but this seems like overkill. What am I missing?

    In database I have Contacts table: ContactID (int) FirstName (varchar) LastName (varchar) ... XmlFields (xml) // This field is xml type To create a new contact, I created two classes - one for regular fields and other to display fields from XmlFields field. In Controller, I have following: public ActionResult Create(Contact contact, FormCollection collection) ... Regular field I catch with contact object and those that need to be stored as xml in XmlFields I try to catch with collection object. Problem is that collection object catches all fields, so I wonder if it is possible to isolate xml fields when posting to a specific object so that I can easily manipulate with them. I need this in separated objects because these xml fields are going to be generated dynamically and will be different for every user. Thanks in advance, Ile

  • Asp.net Mvc - Kigg: Maintain User object in HttpContext.Items between requests.

    Hallo, first I want to say that I hope this doesn't look like I am lazy but I have some trouble understanding a piece of code from the following project. http://kigg.codeplex.com/ I was going through the source code and I noticed something that would be usefull for my own little project I am making. In their BaseController they have the following code: private static readonly Type CurrentUserKey = typeof(IUser); public IUser CurrentUser { get { if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(CurrentUserName)) { IUser user = HttpContext.Items[CurrentUserKey] as IUser; if (user == null) { user = AccountRepository.FindByClaim(CurrentUserName); if (user != null) { HttpContext.Items[CurrentUserKey] = user; } } return user; } return null; } } This isn't an exact copy of the code I adjusted it a little to my needs. This part of the code I still understand. They store their IUser in HttpContext.Items. I guess they do it so that they don't have to call the database eachtime they need the User object. The part that I don't understand is how they maintain this object in between requests. If I understand correctly the HttpContext.Items is a per request cache storage. I think they use Unity to do some dependency injection on each request? In my project I am using Ninject and I am wondering how I can get the same result. I guess InRequestScope in Ninject is the same as UnityPerWebRequestLifetimeManager? I am also wondering which class/method they are binding to which interface? Since the HttpContext.Items get destroyed each request how do they prevent losing their user object? Anyway it's kinda a long question so I am gradefull for any push in the right direction.     I want to create a three level menu, I have got a recursive function today that works with three levels. But the thing is how do i output the third lever? Using two repeaters i have managed to get a hold of the first two levels through the ChildNodes property. But that only gives me the second level. What if a want the third level? Example code below.   • How do I create an inheritable Semaphore in .NET?

    I am trying to create a Win32 Semaphore object which is inheritable. This means that any child processes I launch may automatically have the right to act on the same Win32 object. My code currently looks as follows: Semaphore semaphore = new Semaphore(0, 10); Process process = Process.Start(pathToExecutable, arguments); But the semaphore object in this code cannot be used by the child process. The code I am writing is a port of come working C++. The old C++ code achieves this by the following: SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES security = {0}; security.nLength = sizeof(security); security.bInheritHandle = TRUE; HANDLE semaphore = CreateSemaphore(&security, 0, LONG_MAX, NULL); Then later when CreateProcess is called the bInheritHandles argument is set to TRUE. (In both the C# and C++ case I am using the same child process (which is C++). It takes the semaphore ID on command line, and uses the value directly in a call to ReleaseSemaphore.) I suspect I need to construct a special SemaphoreSecurity or ProcessStartInfo object, but I haven't figured it out yet.

This results in a Javascript proxy found in /JSONServices/ProfileService.svc/js. This Javascript has content expiry set to the same time it was called (so it is never cached on the client). Is it possible to have the clients cache these proxies for some time?

The second file gr1.xml contains something like this: <item name="i1">Item one</item> <item name="i2">Item two</item> <item name="i3">Item three</item> Note that there is no XML declaration in gr1.xml, just plain items without single parent node. So… Which is the best way to replace <group/> with its <item/>s? I have already tried some things like manual enclosing of gr1.xml content into a single node with XML declaration and loading it into XmlDocument, but it doesn't look like a good solution.

    I'd like to use client certificates to verify the identity of administrative callers to my web service. Then I can issue certificates only to the people I want to call my web service and be pretty sure noone else can call it. This is in a very controlled scenario where only one or two people will get the client certificate, so distribution isn't a hard problem. This article provides a good example of how to call a web service using a client certificate. But how can I check details of the client certificate from within my web service? This old article talks about configuring IIS to do it, but I'd like to do it programmatically within my app. I think? thanks for any suggestions!

    As a consultant I get to toy around with many different products and APIs as the customer demands we use X and Y. I think it is great fun and I learn a lot from it. What will make a great developer over time is, in my opinion, the will to understand and learn new things. Therefore, I will always try to understand what happens "behind the scenes" when I am using 3rd party products. I spend around 10-15% of my time in Reflector to learn what the heck I'm really doing when I call method X. How much time do you spend on average? This may also apply to reading (open) source code, documentation etc.

    1st solution located: \Common\Controls\Controls.sln and its project: \Common\Controls\Common.Controls\Common.Controls.csproj Description: This is a library that contains this class: public abstract class OurUserControl : UserControl { // Variables and other getters/setters common to our UserControls } 2nd solution located: \AControl\AControl.sln and its project: \AControl\AControl\AControl.csproj Description: Of the many forms/classes, it will contain this class: using Common.Controls; namespace AControl { public partial class AControl : OurUserControl { // The implementation } } A note about adding references (not sure if this is relevant): When I add references (for projects I create), using the names above: 1. I add Common.Controls.csproj to AControl.sln 2. In AControl.sln I turn off the build of Common.Controls.csproj 3. I add the reference to Common.Controls (by project) to AControl.csproj. This is the (easiest) way I know how to get Debug versions to match Debug References, and Release versions to match Release References. Now, here is where the issue lies (the 3rd solution/project that actually utilizes the UserControl): 3rd solution located: \MainProj\MainProj.sln and its project: \MainProj\MainProj\MainProj.csproj Description: Here's a sample function in one of the classes: private void TestMethod<T>() where T : Common.Controls.OurUserControl, new() { T TheObject = new T(); TheObject.OneOfTheSetters = something; TheObject.AnotherOfTheSetters = something_else; // Do stuff with the object } We might call this function like so: private void AnotherMethod() { TestMethod<AControl.AControl>(); } This builds, runs, and works. No problem. The odd thing is after I close the project/solution and re-open it, I have red squigglies everywhere. I bring up my error list and I see tons of errors (anything that deals with AControl will be noted as an error). I'll see errors such as: The type 'AControl.AControl' cannot be used as type parameter 'T' in the generic type or method 'MainProj.MainClass.TestMethod()'. There is no implicit reference conversion from 'AControl.AControl' to 'Common.Controls.OurUserControl'. or inside the actual method (the properties located in the abstract class): 'AControl.AControl' does not contain a definition for 'OneOfTheSetters' and no extension method 'OneOfTheSetters' accepting a first argument of type 'AControl.AControl' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Meanwhile, I can still build and run the project (then the red squigglies go away until I re-open the project, or close/re-open the file). It seems to me that I might be setting up the projects incorrectly. Thoughts?

  • How to globalize ASP.NET MVC views (decimal separators in particular)?

    I'm working with the NerdDinner sample application and arrived at the section which deals with the Virtual Earth map. The application stores some values for the longitude and latitude. Unfortunately on my system floating point numbers are stored with a comma as the decimal separator, not a dot like in the US. So if I have a latitude of 47.64 it's retrieved and displayed as 47,64. Because that value is passed in a function call to the Virtual Earth API it fails at that point (e.g. JavaScript API expects 47.64, -122.13, but gets 47,64, -122,13). I need to make sure that the application always uses dots. In a WebForms app I would have a common class which overrides the System.Web.UI.Page.InitializeCulture() method and I would be inheriting my pages from that class. I am not sure about how to do the same with MVC. Do I need a customized ViewPage or something? Is there an easy way to solve this? Examples?
