• To program in free time as a programmer, is to show that programming is passion. If not, is the programmer good? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: I don't program in my spare time. Does that make me a bad developer? A lot of blogs and advice on the web seem to suggest that in order to become a great developer, doing just your day job is not enough. For example, you should contribute to open source projects in your spare time, write smartphone apps, etc. In fact a lot of this advice seems to suggest that if you don't love programming enough to do it all day long then you're probably in the wrong career. That doesn't ring true with me. I enjoy my work, but when I come home from the office I'm not in the mood to jump straight back onto the computer and start coding away until bedtime. I only have a certain number of hours free time each day, and I'd rather spend them on other hobbies, seeing friends or going outside than in front of the computer. I do get a kick out of programming, and do hack around outside of work occasionally. I'm committed to my personal development and spend time reading tech blogs and books as a way to keep learning and becoming better. But that doesn't extend so far as to my wanting to use all my spare time for coding. Does this mean I'm not a 'true' software developer at heart? Is it possible to become a good software developer without doing extra outside your job? I'd be very interested to hear what you think.

  I’m using Ubuntu 14.04 and want to copy music to/on my iPhone 3gs. I already installed the actual mobile device, but neither Rhythmbox nor gmusicbrowser show my phone. Only on Gigolo I can see it, and transfer data, but the music I copy is not working on my phone. • Batch file to wait for other program to load/initialize, then execute command?

  I need some assistance writing what should be a fairly basic .BAT file. I load my main program, but that program takes ~20secs to load and be initialized. I have another command-line API I can execute to interact with this above program, but obviously until the above program is loaded and initialized there's no point in trying. If the program isn't running the command-line API returns a string stating exactly this - otherwise it just works and exits. Easy. So I want to wait until the above is loaded/initialized before firing my API command(s) at it. I could place a sleep/wait in there, but I want something more solid. The ~20sec wait is not necessarily consistent. Any way to execute the command-line API over and over until the response is satisfactory, then exit? J

  Hello, I have a program that is executed by another program. The program that is being executed needs files located at its own location [same folder]. If I call myfile.open("xpo.dll") I might get an error because I am not passing the [fullpath + name + extension]. The program that is being executed can vary paths depending on the installation path. Therefore, I was wondering if there is a way to get the application path [where the application is located] and set it so that when another program executes from another path everything might work properly...? [Using C++ without .NET Framework] Thanks.

  I have a console application written in c++. It simply reads an integer from standard input(keyboard) and writes another integer to standard output(screen). Now I want to give some tests to that program and check its answers using another program. In another words, I want to write electron judge for that program. I want that program(which I want to test) to read from file and write to file without changing source code. How can I do that.   The Java Access Bridge product is now being included with Java SE 7u6. Manual installation of the Java Access Bridge will no longer be required. All Access Bridge files will be automatically installed by the JRE and the JDK.             The Developer Preview for this feature is now available and can be downloaded from http://jdk7.java.net/download.html.            By default, the Java Access Bridge is disabled. In order to use the Java Access Bridge, enable it using the steps mentioned below and test your applications for accessibility.             Enable the Java Access Bridge: Use one of these mechanism:             1. Ease Of Access control panel.     On Windows Vista and later the Java Access Bridge can be enabled     from Ease of Access Center.     Select "Use the computer without a display". In "Other programs     installed" section , select the check box to     "Enable Java Access Bridge" and apply. 2. Or run the following command in the Command Window.     %JRE_HOME%\bin\jabswitch -enable Note: You must restart your Assistive Technology software and Java application after enabling the bridge.             Test the Java Access Bridge: 1. Enable the Java Access Bridge as described above. 2. Run an Assistive Technology that supports the Java Access Bridge. 3. Run a Java application. Ensure that the Assistive Technology  reads    the values of your application. • Problem interfacing GSM USB modem to Java application

  I am working on an open-source application called FrontlineSMS which can be interfaced with GSM modems to send and receive SMS. The windows installer that is available through their website works fine. Since i wanted to modify it, I got the source code and built the jar and tried to launch it. When I plug in the GSM modem and launch the application, it sometimes detects the GSM device and i am even able to send and receive SMS. Or else 1.) • How to support 3-byte UTF-8 Characters in ANT

  I am trying to support UTF-8 characters in my ANT script. As long as the character string are made up of 2-byte UTF-8 characters, such as: Lògìñ Ùsèr ÌÐ Then things work fine. When I use Unicode Han Character: ? Which, according to this site: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/6211/index.htm Has a UTF-8 encoding of 0xE6 0x88 0x91 I can see in UltraEdit, my input properties file has the values "E6 88 91" all in a row, so I'm fairly confident that my input is correct. And When I open the same file in Notepad++ I can see all the characters correctly. • Image not showing in UIImageView in Interface Builder / iPhone

  I have a UIView with an UIImageView dragged onto the view. All of a sudden, for all my xibs, the image no longer shows up. There is a blue X. However, when it builds, the image is there. At one point, I deleted and regenerated all my images and moved some into a subfolder in XCode. Normally, when you go to select an image for an UIImageView, IB allows you to pick from any image in the project. But, I can't see any of the images I had put in the folder anymore in the dropdown. All I see in the dropdown on the Inspector is the one image I want, but that is also the one that is not showing up. And like I said, if I build it on the device or simulator, it all works. There is some cache or something screwed up somewhere. Everything builds with no errors. I cleared the caches and rebuilt. It all works. No error or warnings. But...I can't see any other images and IB still thinks it's missing the image that is clearly selected in the dropdown. So how do I get XCode and IB back on track and see what assets it properly should be seeing in the XIBs?

• iPhone TableView alternative options for Check Mark Accessory

  I'm looking for the best approach to this problem. In my tableview I have a list of options from which you can select one and only one. The problem is the selection to choose is not obvious without displaying more details on the option. If I use the disclosure indicator or button for the more detail, I lose the checkmark functionality. In searching around I see some have used the cell Image as a work around. I see others instead of using the standard disclosure button have created custom disclosure button looking like a checkmark. Haven't seen this one but is it viable (HIG) to add a button in the cell ('more info') to launch the next tableview. My thought was to use a disclosure indicator and on the second view in the navigation bar (where the edit button usually is) add a 'selectMe' button. I think I am probably manage to code either of the above, am just asking for information on what is the best (HIG) way. Example Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 (x) Option 4 Where x is the checked one But in order to know which is the best choice you need to see Option 3 (Header) Option 3-a Option 3-b Option 3-c Option 3-d Where even at this level option 3-c might have additional information. Any guidance you can provide would appreciated.

  I have a problem. I try to display a UITable that could have 2000-20000 records (typicall numbers.) I have a SQLite database similar to the Apple contacts application. I do all the tricks I know to get a smoth scroll, but I have a problem. I load the data in 50 recods blocks. Then, when the user scroll, request next 50 until finish the list. However, load that 50 records cause a notable "pause" in loading and scrolling. Everything else works fine. I cache the data, have opaque cells, draw it by code, etc... I swap the code loading the same data in dicts and have a performance boost but wonder if I could keep my object oriented aproach and improve the actual code.   I have a FogBugz question regarding EBS (Evidence Based Scheduling)... Developer A estimates Case A at X amount and Developer B ends up taking over Case A before Developer A can get started and before time has been logged against it. If Developer B agrees with the same estimate that Developer A entered, how might we transfer that same estimate to Developer B for the purpose of evidence-based scheduling? (I want to avoid having Developer B switch the estimate to Y and then back to X)

  Dear Members, Scholars. As it may seem obvious I am not armed with Objective C knowledge. Levering on other more simple computer languages I am trying to set a dynamic name for a list of buttons generated by a simple loop (as the following code suggest). Simply putting it, I would like to have several UIButtons generated dynamically (within a loop) naming them dynamically, as well as other related functions. button1,button2,button3 etc..
