• Running Multiple sites with multiple domains apache

  I am having a rough time running apache and using multiple domain names here is a snippet of my config file. I keep getting a error saying that NameVirtualHost has no VirtualHosts. I want them both running on the same IP and I'm not sure why this doesn't work. I've been digging through the documentation for VirtualHosts, NameVirtualHost, and apache's page about name based virtual hosting. That example in the name based page is almost exactly my config! What am I doing wrong? • How can I return a 503 status in apache without invoking external scripts

I can't seem to work out how to do this without invoking external scripts, which I'd rather avoid. Is there an apache directive which will allow me to return an arbitrary HTTP status code without resorting to hacks like invoking a php script which sets the status header?

• Can I simulate human typing on Windows?

So I don't screw it up, I'd like to pre-record typing the more complicated bits of the source code and play it back. Most programs I've found that do similar things (like AutoHotKey) dump the text instantaneously as a giant block. Is there any program that will do this and allow me to adjust the play-back speed?

  Hi all, I'm trying to set up a virtual host for redmine.SITENAME.com. I've edited the httpd.conf file and now I'm trying to edit my DNS settings. However, I'm not sure exactly what to do. Here's an snippet of what's already in the named.conf file (the file was made by someone else who is unreachable): zone "SITENAME.com" { type master; file "SITENAME.com"; allow-transfer { ip.address.here.00; common-allow-transfer; }; }; I figure if I want to get redmine.SITENAME.com working, I need to copy that entry and just replace SITENAME.com with redmine.SITENAME.com but will that work? I was under the impression I needed a .db file but I don't see any reference to one in the current named.conf file. Any advice would be great and if you need more info to answer the question, don't hesitate to ask.

• GMail Phone dialer - shortcut key for pushing the hash or pound key?

  I use the GMall 'Call phone' feature a lot, and the numeric keyboard pad works great for entering conference codes, but most conference call services want you "Enter your conference code followed by the 'hash' or 'pound' sign. So I end up typing the 10 digit conference code using the keyboard but then I have to use my mouse to push the # or hash sign. Is their a way to push the # with the keyboard?

• Telugu (unicode) font rendering in emacs

  I sometimes edit text in telugu language. However, when I open the file (UTF-8 encoded) in GNU emacs (version 23.1.50.1 on Ubuntu Jaunty) the text rendering is incorrect. The same text file opened in gedit is rendered correctly. Here's a snippet: ????????? ???? ???? ???????? rendred in gedit: And, the emacs rendering of the same text: Wherever glyphs need to be composited (not sure if it's the right word), emacs (or whatever library it uses) is not doing it right. Is there anyway to fix this? Perhaps tuning some setting in my configuration? Any ideas, please?

AFAIK the recording format changed from the RTM Vista code when the TV Pack (Fiji?) was introduced to OEMs a while back and it is not possible to convert existing recordings to the new format. I'm assuming that 7 builds on the TV Pack code, so will upgrading lose me all my recorded TV?

• Managing service passwords with Puppet

  I'm setting up my Bacula configuration in Puppet. One thing I want to do is ensure that each password field is different. My current thought is to hash the hostname with a secret value that would ensure each file daemon has a unique password and that password can be written to both the director configuration and the file server. I definitely don't want to use one universal password as that would permit anybody who might compromise one machine to get access to any machine through Bacula. Is there another way to do this other than using a hash function to generate the passwords? Clarification: This is NOT about user accounts for services. This is about the authentication tokens (to use another term) in the client / server files. • Google analytics and multiple independent subdomains

  I need some help trying to setup google analytics correct. Here is my setup: We host sites for multiple customers, and each customer have their own subdomain on our site. So we have customerA.oursite.com and customerB.oursite.com As we add more customers we get more subdomains. We do want to track all data for each customer independent, but I don't want to to create a new google tracking code for each new customer. So my plan is to track all visits with "oursite.com", and then I will create a filter in google Analytics to get data for each specific customer(All visits for a specific subdomain). Is this(One tracking code, and a subdomain filter) the right way to do it? To create a subdomain filter i add a new profile for each customer, and then add a custom filter saying include "Request URI" and fill in "CustomerDomain.oursite.com". Is this the correct way to do it? And a general question about filters: Is it really impossible to create a new filter by applying it to data in an existing profile? I would really like to just collect all the data in one "main" profile and then create subdomain filters as we need them. But it seems that google only apply filters to new incomming data, not existing data. Is this really true? The following is my tracking code. • Parse and validate Asterisk dialplan before commiting

  I recently made a number of changes to my Asterisk dialplan and would like to validate these changes before I commit. I am thinking more from a "write code" - "compile" - "debug" approach. I am very new to Asterisk and am trying to build my dialplan slowly but the server is already in use (by the spouse) so I'd like to minimize interruptions as much as possible. If I can at-least verify that the code is correct, I can then debug in Asterisk as calls are taking place.

  I'm unsure as to why I'm getting the following error when apache is rebooted: Invalid command 'VirtualDocumentRoot', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration Action 'start' failed.   Right now if I try to add a non-system user not in the university's Kerberos realm I am prompted for a Kerberos password anyway. Obviously there is no password to be entered, so I just press enter and see: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error passwd: password unchanged Typing passwd newuser has the same issue with the same message. I tried using pwconv in the hopes that only a shadow entry was needed, but it changed nothing. I want to be able to add a local user not in the realm and give them a local password without being bothered about Kerberos. I am on Ubuntu 10.04. I thought I had the problem solved by using calibre but I quickly discovered that since the content is DRMed, I'm not allowed to read the book with this reader. lame The specific book I'm reading has code examples in it, but it is difficult to follow them without being able to specifically scroll through the examples. This doesn't even touch on the fact that the code content is also poorly formatted.

  When I connect to remote machine uisng ssh, by default it is not on bash prompt. To get bash prompt by default on login I did as below by create .cshrc file in my home directory if ($?prompt) then setenv SHELL /bin/bash exec $SHELL -login endif It works well and I am getting bash shell but I have another file as .bashrc in my home directory which gets executed when i run bash explicitly and I have done lot of customization in this file as per my requirement. Is it possible to get my .bashrc executed somehow from .cshrc or some other way? For example I need to go connect to host B from host A, I do this From A - ssh B this brings host B but not with bash prompt. To get bash prompt I created .cshrc as mentioned above but my above code snippet does not call my .bashrc script.

• How to avoid trailing spaces when you copy something from terminal?

  I often copy a code snippet from a SSH terminal session where i'm logged in to some remote server and have a file opened in vim, for example to paste it here into an answer at SO. It frequently happens, that the code is padded with trailing spaces to match the terminal width. Whereas i've seen this on both, my Ubuntu and Windows machines (using putty) i think, it doesn't happen always. I was not able to figure out when it happens, though. So i wonder how i can avoid those trailing spaces which i have to remove manually all the time in the textarea, where i copy it to. Note, that the files do not have trailing spaces on the server! It only happens if i select and copy some text.
