  • Server Side code Pushing Data to client Browser while current thread is busy Comet (programming)

    Hello Friends, I am writing one simple web page with bunch of textboxes and a button control. Now when user finished editing the values on this text boxes user has to click the button and this button invoke heavily process intensive algorithm on server side code based on the data received from client (Textboxes) And it could some time takes up to 30 to 45 minutes to complete the whole operation so the current thread is still inside the button click event handler function. That background task only provides one event, and the web page subscribes to it to get some text data after each stage of processing I was wandering if there is any way I can keep user up-to-date with what is the current progress on that background task. I have div element to print the current status information So I am looking for some sort of reverse mechanism then "get" and "post". I have read some articles on the Comet (programming) but I can't find any easy or definitive answer Thanks in advance

    I have to send out letters to certain clients and I have a standard letter that I need to use. I want to replace some of the text inside the body of the message with variables. Here is my maturity_letter models.py class MaturityLetter(models.Model): default = models.BooleanField(default=False, blank=True) body = models.TextField(blank=True) footer = models.TextField(blank=True) Now the body has a value of this: Dear [primary-firstname], AN IMPORTANT REMINDER… You have a [product] that is maturing on [maturity_date] with [financial institution]. etc Now I would like to replace everything in brackets with my template variables. This is what I have in my views.py so far: context = {} if request.POST: start_form = MaturityLetterSetupForm(request.POST) if start_form.is_valid(): agent = request.session['agent'] start_date = start_form.cleaned_data['start_date'] end_date = start_form.cleaned_data['end_date'] investments = Investment.objects.all().filter(maturity_date__range=(start_date, end_date), plan__profile__agent=agent).order_by('maturity_date') inv_form = MaturityLetterInvestments(investments, request.POST) if inv_form.is_valid(): sel_inv = inv_form.cleaned_data['investments'] context['sel_inv'] = sel_inv maturity_letter = MaturityLetter.objects.get(id=1) context['mat_letter'] = maturity_letter context['inv_form'] = inv_form context['agent'] = agent context['show_report'] = True Now if I loop through the sel_inv I get access to sel_inv.maturity_date, etc but I am lost in how to replace the text.     (SquashFS is a compressed filesystem - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SquashFS) I'm looking for a way to read a SquashFS filesystem from a program. So far, I've know about the in-kernel drivers for it, but I'm sure that a userspace library for it must exist somewhere. Any language would be fine, but C is preferred. Just mounting the filesystem and using it that way is technically possible, but I'd rather avoid that route because the application I'm looking at would involve working with at least a few dozen archives at any given time.

Notepad.exe is the lightweight Windows editor by Microsoft. Notepad++ is an Open Source programmer's text editor for Windows based on SciTE. It has syntax highlighting, code collapsing, language recognition, macro recording, regular expression search and replace across line breaks and in files on disk, copy filenames and paths to clipboard, and many other advance text editing tools. Only the more full-featured editors for Linux would be likely to be suitable replacements for Notepad++. Thanks

    I have a model which contains view models for each view. This model is held in session and is initialised when application starts. I need to be able to populate a field from one view model with the value from another so have used a lambda function. Below is my model. I am using a lambda so that when I get Test2.MyProperty it will use the FunctionTestProperty to retrieve the value from Test1.TestProperty. public class Model { public Model() { Test1 = new Test1() Test2 = new Test2(FunctionTestProperty () => Test1.TestProperty) } } public class Test1 { public string TestProperty { get; set; } } public class Test2 { public Test2() : this (() => string.Empty) {} public Test2(Func<string> functionTestProperty) { FunctionTestProperty = functionTestProperty; } public Func<string> FunctionTestProperty { get; set; } public string MyProperty { get{ return FunctionTestProperty() ?? string.Empty; } } } This works perfectly when I first run the application and navigate from Test1 to Test2; I can see that when I get the value for MyProperty it calls back to Model constructor and retrieves the Test1.TestProperty value. However when I then submit the form (Test2) it calls the default constructor which sets it to string.Empty. So if I go back to Test1 and back to Test2 again it always then calls the Test2 default constructor. Does anyone know why this works when first running the application but not after the view is submitted, or if I have made an obvious mistake?

In CountryController, I'm retrieving a list of countries from a CountryService that uses the $resource object. This works fine, but I want to be able to share the list of countries with the ClientController. After some research, I read that I should use the CountryService to store the data and inject that service into both controllers.     I was an Eclipse user, now I have to use Vim in my machine. I used to "compare" a file I edited with a CVS repository to do merges an commit the files, using a context menu and my mouse. Is this possible in Vim? Opening a vimdiff for a file before commiting, and commit it from vim itself? And how is that supposed to work? I'm supposing I would be editing a file. Then, I want to see the modifications. I run vimdiff in gvim, and a new window (or buffer) is opened. I run the modifications, save what is applicable (using vimdiff commands), and commit running another command. Is this all transparent in vim? Do I have to keep getting out of vim to my terminal, or can all be done inside it? Do I need to use some plugins, or just really simple functions inside my vimrc?

Everything was going fine since I reached the part where it should define the language of the selected file: it just doesn't check the ifs.
