  • How to stream TV/Films/Music over the internet to various devices from a home server?

    Set up: An always on old-ish laptop connected to a NAS which contains TV/Films/Music. I want to be able to stream on the fly the data on my NAS to various connected devices such as iphone or laptop. I am currently using Orb (orb.com) mycast software but the requirements for the streaming are very high in terms of processing power is there alternative software and dedicated hardware i can add to get maximum benefit from this setup?

  • Trouble restoring an iPod touch backup

    I ran into some problems with my iPod, and am trying to restore a backup following this link - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 I tried following the section under "Restoring your iPhone or iPod touch". When it gets to step 9, it simply doesn't show up - the restore happens, the iPod restarts, but I DO NOT get an option to set it up as a new device, or restore a backup. A backup does exist (checked the location). Any ideas on how I can restore the backup?

    Hello, I am using Unix (Debian) as my server platform and want to configure the following: A remote user can connect to a secure VPN server and use its IP to access the Internet, mostly for browsing and e-mail. I read a lot about OpenS/WAN+L2PT and OpenVPN but I am still confused how I should configure it. I would prefer IPSec+PPTP/L2PT since the road warrior doesn't have to install any extra software on iPhone/Windows7. Is there a good how-to for IPSec or what would you suggest?

  • Is a 2006 Mac Mini’s processor upgradeable to a Core 2 Duo?

    I have a Mac Mini with Core Solo 1.5GHz, 512mb RAM, 60gb HDD, etc... I know, it's very old but since it's lying around here, I wanted to bump it up for general usage and some experimental iPhone development. Also, Snow Leopard can't be installed as it doesn't have enough RAM. I browsed around but I'm not sure if this Mac Mini's motherboard accepts a Core2Duo (at least a 2.0GHz). If anyone could inform me which generation of Core2Duo it still accepts, I'd be grateful.

    I keep my music collection on my iPod, but since I got my first iPhone two and a half years ago I have quit using the iPod as a portable music device. It's just an external HD. Benefit of having it as an external HD is that when it's connected to some other computer iTunes can play its music and update iTunes database. It would be nice if I could copy data from the iPod to an external USB HD and give away the iPod to somebody who doesn't have one.

    I'm testing Windows 8 RP. Installed tens of apps from market. What I wanna know is, is there any way to save (or maybe sync with Windows Live account) installed app list, and install these saved applications in future - RTM version of OS? I mean, somehing like on Apples' devices - icloud features function that I'm talking about. You can install apps on iPhone and sync with iCloud account. Then you can re-install these apps on another device, which signed in with your login into icloud.

    I wasn't able to activate my gizmo5 number because Google Voice activation(verification) requires you to enter two dial tones (DTMF) and they did not work at least not with these two variants: Using gizmo5 PC client using fring from Iphone as gizmo5 SIP client Redirecting gizmo5 to a US mobile number None of the above methods worked for me.     I'm trying to secure my home network but don't really need the complexity of a VPN so I'm trying to figure out other options. I'd like to allow my iPhone remote access to my home servers but I can't depend on the IP address because it changes quite often (due to the 3G network, etc). Can I filter incoming connections on my router (pfsense) by MAC address or does NAT change the source as it's passing through the different routers on the internet?
