How do I automatically update hundreds of images in an HTML page using jquery?

I have an HTML page where I want to refresh a lot of images every 30 seconds after the HTML page has been downloaded. I understand how to do this with Jquery and a single image, but I want to use about 200 custom urls to determine the current image to display for over 200 images. I need to find an efficient way to have jquery call the custom url associated with each image to download the url for the needed image as it changes, and then update the image in the page when it changes. Current hyperlink example to demonstrate the custom urls. <A href="/urlThatReturnsCurrentImageURL/1234/4567">link to url for image</A> Each custom url will return an image tag like this (or any other text that makes this simpler for jquery) <img src="/static/someImage.jpg"> What is the simplest way to have jquery call the custom url for each image to download the image url, image html, or some other text that jquery can use to download the right image every 30 seconds? Please keep in mind that I will have about 200 of these on a page.

How to use iPhone OS 3.2 functionality in an iPhone OS 3.0 app?

Problem: My app must run on iPhone OS 3.0. However, there are some features of iPhone OS 3.2 which I really want to use. Just as a little add-on for free. But I don't want to cut off my user base by doing this. Imagine you're an iPhone OS 3.0 thing, and someone gives you a book to read. It has iPhone OS 3.2 instructions. You never learned those. So what do you do? Crash? They would have to be hidden, so you're not bothered. Someone wrote recently on SO: keep in mind that you have to check the version at places in the source code where you like to use the new features and provide alternatives for older os versions So how could I do that? Wouldn't Xcode throw warnings when it finds stuff that isn't linkable from anything anywhere? Would I just check for the OS version and dynamically link - somehow - to whatever stuff I think is cool?

Create a subtitle for menu items in Silverstripe CMS?

Hi I'm using Silverstripe CMS on the "Simple" template. I'm wondering how to create subtitles for the menu items. The current navigation template is like so: <nav class="primary"> <span class="nav-open-button">²</span> <ul> <% loop $Menu(2) %> <li class="$LinkingMode"><a href="$Link" title="$Title.XML">$MenuTitle.XML</a></li> <% end_loop %> </ul> I'm thinking i could somehow edit $Menutitle.XML but how? Also the sub title should be displayed directly under the Title but as the same button. The SubTitle would need to have a different css rule so that it could be smaller. I know that the CMS has an area for me to edit the page titles which become the menu titles, would it be easy to add a subtitle to the admin like that or is there some other easier way? I only need to make a few of them.

Why can't I dynamically add rows to a HTML table using JavaScript in Internet Explorer?

PHP delete script, return to 'viewsubjects.php?classroom_id=NO VALUE'

Hi, As the title states... I am deleting a 'subject' from a 'classroom' I view classrooms, then can click on a classroom to view the subject for that classroom. So the link where I am viewing subjects looks like: viewsubjects.php?classroom=23 When the user selects the delete button (in a row) to remove a subject from a class, I simply want the user to be redirected back to the list of subjects for the classroom (exactly where they were before!!) So I though this is simply a case of calling up the classroom ID within my delete script. Here is what I have: EDIT: corrected spelling mistake in code (this was not the problem) $subject_id = $_GET['subject_id']; $classroom_id = $_GET['classroom_id']; $sql = "DELETE FROM subjects WHERE subject_id=".$subject_id; $result = mysql_query($sql, $connection) or die("MySQL Error: ".mysql_error()); header("Location: viewsubjects.php?classroom_id=".$classroom_id); exit(); The subject is being removed from the DB, but when I am redirected back the URI is displaying with an empty classroom ID like: viewsubjects.php?classroom_id= Is there a way to carry the classroom ID through successfully through the delete script so it can be displayed after, allowing the user to be redirected back to the page? JavaScript library not working in IE, can't see error information.

Hi there. I have been writing a JavaScript library for a few weeks now and it works brilliantly in Firefox, Chrome and Safari. I had not tested it in IE until recently. I do not own a Windows box so after testing it on my friends and realising it wasnt working I started going over my code for things that could be causing it to break. So far I have found nothing. I could not find any descriptions of the errors in the browser while I was there either. So I wondered if anyone could run my test script in an IE browser (6, 7 or 8) and let me know any information they can find as to why it crashed. Please ignore any information saying it works in IE6, I put that up there after testing it through http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/ I just assumed it was working because I could set transparency and size via my script and see it run in this tool. So if anyone could be kind enough to run it in IE and either let me know what errors they are getting and possibly how to fix them then I will be extreamly grateful. Thank you in advance. onKeypress Enter Key event on textfield not working in Chrome

I have a question along the same vein as the one asked here regarding how the enter key is handled in chrome. The effect I am trying to accomplish is to allow the enter key to call a click event of one a button while focus in within the current field. Need help with transferring data between MySQL db's using PHP

In one of the sites I manage, the client has decided to take on ACH/Bank Account administration where it was previously outsourced. As a result, the information submitted in our online form which used to simply store in a single database for processing now must sit in 'limbo' until the funds used for payment have been verified. My original plan is as follows: At the end of an enrollment, all form data is collected and stored in a single MySQL database. Our internal administrator will receive an email notification reminding him enrollments have taken place. He will process the ACH information collected and wait the 3-4 business days needed for payment to clear. Once the payment information has been returned as Good (haven't considered what I will do with the 'bad' yet), the administrator can log into a secure portal which allows him to click a button to 'process' the full information once compared and verified. the process is simplified as: Enrollment complete: data stored in DB 'A' Funds verified and link clicked: data from 'A' is copied to DB 'B' and 'A' is deleted. I have run similar processes with CSV output before and simply used //transfers old data to archive $transfer = mysql_query('INSERT INTO '.$archive.' SELECT * FROM '.$table) or die(mysql_error()); //empties existing table $query = mysql_query('TRUNCATE TABLE '.$table) or die(mysql_error()); but in those cases, ALL data returned was copied and deleted. I only want to copy and delete a single record. Any idea how to accomplish this?

HTTPS causes jQuery to ignore request

I have an odd bug, this jQuery code executes correctly when calling the page via HTTP, but once I connect to the page via HTTPS it doesn't execute. how to trigger a script located on a machine in one domain from a machine on another domain

Hi, I am basically from QA. What we testers do each day is 1. Open a web browser. Type in http://11.12.13.27.8080/cruisecontrol (since we are in a particular network, only we can access this) 2. Check if the latest nightly build has been successful. If it is successful, deploy it on a test environment by clicking on 'Deploy this build' link. This deploying takes around 1-1.5 hours. During this time we cannot use our machines to work on anything else. Only after this deploying can we begin to test. Now, i wanted to know if its possible to do the below. When at home in the morning, i use something which will trigger a script (which will be on my machine at workplace). This script will inturn automatically deploy the build. I already have such a similar script. What i want to know is how is it possible to trigger this script from my home machine? Is it even possible? For e.g the external trigger will say "Deploy xxx branch on yyy test environment". So the script on my workplace machine will be invoked and it will automatically deploy it before i actually come to my desk. Please help. I am from QA and have no idea about all this.

Select All in Javascript (Firefox extension) not working right

I'm having some problems with a select all/ none function. (I didn't write it, I'm trying to fix it!) It currently looks like this: rsfindmod.SelAll = function(){ document.getElementById("ListBox").selectAll(); document.getElementById("ListBox").focus(); } It's being used on a dynamically generated set of links, so there's no set number of items in this listbox. This seems to work most of the time, but randomly it only selects those which are visible at the time. Scrolling the list or hitting the button again seems to normally make it work as expected. My first (Obvious?) thought was to replace the function entirely with the one from this link for testing: http://viralpatel.net/blogs/2009/06/listbox-select-all-move-left-right-up-down-javascript.html Trouble is that I can't get this one to work whatsoever! This gives me the error that listbox.options is not defined Any thoughts please? I'm by no means certain whether it's the original function at fault, or something in the generation of this listbox.

Hi, I want to post values to a page through a hyperlink in another page. Is it possible to do that? Let's say I have a page results.php which has the starting line, <?php if(isset($_POST['posted_value'])) { echo "expected value"; // do something with the data } else { echo "no the value expected"; } If from another page say link.php I place a hyperlink like this: <a href="results.php?posted_value=1"> , will this be accepetd by the results page? If instead if I replace the above starting line with if(isset($_REQUEST['posted_value'])), will this work? I believe the above hyperlink evaluates to GET, but since the only visibility difference between GET and POST that is you can see parameters in the address bar with GET But, is there any other way to place a hyperlink which can post values to a page? or can we use jquery in the place of hyperlink to POST the values? Can anyone please suggest me something on this please? Thanks.

Remove in between folder structure from the url in a php website

I have a php website having following folder structure (basic structure). project_name app controller model view css js img index.php So when I view index.php in WAMP the url is http://localhost/project_name/ But when I go inside the site (eg. login.php which resides under view folder) url is like this. http://localhost/project_name/app/view/login.php I found that using .htaccess we can change the urls. So I tried this (in .htaccess). RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / Redirect 301 /project_name/app/view/login.php /project_name/login.php RewriteRule ^/project_name/login.php$ /project_name/app/view/login.php [L] Now url is http://localhost/project_name/login.php It is correct. But it seems php does not use the original link to grab the file (ie. from /project_name/app/view/login.php) but from here /project_name/login.php So it throws 404 error. What should I change? Please help me, i am just trying to hide /app/view/ part from the url so that user won't see my folder structure. I have read about various ways of doing that for about 9hrs today but still couldn't get anything working correctly. Hope my question is clear enough. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Options for organizing android app with multiple independent apps

Problem Definition: We have a fairly large app which has multiple use cases such that they are all independent of each other. For example lets say we have a1, a2, a3 & a4 modules that are independent apps or use cases for our main app 'A'. The independent a1, a2, a3, a4 are all purchasable apps such that the user goes to our website instead of play store and activate either a1 or a2 by paying some fees on our website. So basically App 'A' is a free app in play-store and is sort of Dashboard with buttons to launch a1, a2, a3, a4. When the user click on lets say a1 button then we will check if a1 is already installed and launch it but if it is not present then give the user a link to download it. Option 1: Have a main app 'A' and a1, a2, a3, a4 as library project. But with this approach the main app A is too big in size. Option 2: Have a1, a2, a3, a4 build as separate .apk and then put in the assets folder of main app 'A' and then install them as needed. Again size of main app A is bigger. Option 3: Upload a1, a2, a3, a4 to a third party website or play store and download from it as needed. This way the main app remains lighter. Observation: In all these approaches there will be an independent app installed with its own icon on users phone. So basically user can launch from either the Dashboard (which will eventually launch an intent from Activity in a1 app) or user can directly launch app a1. Follow-up Question: Is there any other solution that anyone can suggest to tackle this kind of problem? Another things is by going this approach app a1, a2, a3, a4 can be developed & tested independently of each other.

User clicks on Image, video starts playing

I have an image, and I would like to make the image link to an embedded YouTube video, such that if the user clicks on the image, it starts playing in the place where the picture used to be. <div id="myvideo"> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Msef24JErmU&playnext_from=TL&videos=dgzKE_Lyv7o"> <img src="starryeyedsurprise.jpg"></a> </div> Something like what the above code does, except not just hyperlink to it. I guess I don't need it to be a YouTube video per se, I could just host the video on my own site (it's so low volume that I don't have to worry about serving up a video every once in a while).

Prototype or jQuery for DOM manipulation (client-side dynamic content)

I need to know which of these two JavaScript frameworks is better for client-side dynamic content modification for known DOM elements (by id), in terms of performance, memory usage, etc.: Prototype's $('id').update(content) jQuery's jQuery('#id').html(content) BTW, both libraries coexist with no conflict in my app, because I'm using RichFaces for JSF development, that's why I can use "jQuery" instead of "$". I have at least 20 updatable areas in my page, and for each one I prepare content (tables, option lists, etc.), based on some user-defined client-side criteria filtering or some AJAX event, etc., like this: var html = []; int idx = 0; ... html[idx++] = '<tr><td class="cell"><span class="link" title="View" onclick="myFunction('; html[idx++] = param; html[idx++] = ')"></span>'; html[idx++] = someText; html[idx++] = '</td></tr>'; ... So here comes the question, which is better to use: // Prototype's $('myId').update(html.join('')); // or jQuery's jQuery('#myId').html(html.join('')); Other needed functions are hide() and show(), which are present in both frameworks. Which is better? Also I'm needing to enable/disable form controls, and to read/set their values. Note that I know my updatable area's id (I don't need CSS selectors at this point). And I must tell that I'm saving these queried objects in some data structure for later use, so they are requested just once when the page is rendered, like this: MyData = {div1:jQuery('#id1'), div2:$('id2'), ...}; ... div1.update('content 1'); div2.html('content 2'); So, which is the best practice?

Safari & Frames in html

Hi, I am using Windows Expression web to design a embedded quicktime player that plays 4 separate videos in a main frame. Yes, I am using frames. Header Frame, Left Bar frame, Footer & Main centre frame. Everything works in Explorer as it should. jquery dialog calls a server side method with button parameters

Hello all, I have a gridview control with delete asp:ImageButton for each row of the grid. What I would like is for a jquery dialog to pop up when a user clicks the delete button to ask if they are sure they want to delete it. So far I have the dialog coming up just fine, Ive got buttons on that dialog and I can make the buttons call server side methods but its getting the dialog to know the ID of the row that the user has selected and then passing that to the server side code. The button in the page row is currently just an 'a' tag with the id 'dialog_link'. I am facing some problems with my server space. The images are using all the space from the server, making it slow. As it is an eCommerce website, it cannot be slow or we lose customers. If I have the following: SKU's : ABC123-001 > catName > Phone ABC753-851 > catName > MAC AT1233-098 > catName > PC How can I use trim to make it the following: SKU's : 123 > catName > Phone 753 > catName > MAC 1233 > catName > PC Which I would use in the following script: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ var sku = $("#ProductBreadcrumb ul li:last").text(); $(".ProductThumbImage img").attr('src','http://img.example.com/images/'+catName+'/'+sku+'.jpg'); }); </script> So, basically, the output for the picture link would be: http://img.example.com/images/phone/123.jpg http://img.example.com/images/mac/753.jpg http://img.example.com/images/pc/1233.jpg So yeah, first problem I have to face is.. How can I trim it? I am not familiar with JavaScript so any help would be really appreciated :D

How do I display a sting, based on which id is set as selected?

I'd like to display a text string (to be positioned above ul) depending on which link is set to selected by the chgClass fuction. The ids for each display via an alert right now, but I can't seem to make them appear in "english". How to resolve this?
