• How to catch printf from a dll?

  I've got a C++ console application that uses a third-party dll (jvm.dll, indirectly) that uses printf to print various error messages (Java stacktrace). I need to catch these stacktraces to a string in order to process them further, or at least to see them printed on the console. The thing is that I see the stacktrace only when debugging my application in VisualStudio (VS 2010). When I run my application in the "normal way", i.e. from the command line, nothing is printed on the console. So VS is able to somehow interfere the java output and display it. I need to be able to do the same thing. I've already tried freopen(), but without success. Also, I've found this question on the same problem, but without a clear answer.

• Exceptions and Access Violations in Paint events in Windows

  After executing some new code, my C++ application started to behave strange (incorrect or incomplete screen updates, sometimes no screen updates at all). After a while we found out that the new code is causing an Access Violation. Strange enough, the application simply keeps on running (but with the incorrect screen updates). At first we thought the problem was caused by a "try-catch(...)" construction (put there by an overactive ex-colleague), but several hours later (carefully inspecting the call stacks, adding many breakpoints, ...) we found out that if there's an Access Violation in a paint event, Windows catches it, and simply continues running the application. Is this normal behavior? Is it normal that Windows catches exceptions/errors during a paint event? Is there a way to disable this? (if not, it would mean that we have to always run in the debugger with all exceptions enabled while testing our code). Patrick

  Hi, I have a enterprise application converted from VS2003 to vs2005 . The converted application, in one page i do edit and save i am getting this error. 'Multiple controls with the same ID 'hidWIPID0' were found But the same work fine in the code of vs2003 version without any error. Its a huge application with dynamic master pages and usercontrols etc..So i cant paste the exact code here. • Who interrupts my thread?

  I understand what an InterruptedException does and why it is thrown. However in my application I get it when waiting for SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait() on a thread that is only known by my application, and my application never class Thread.interrupt() on any thread, also it never passes the reference of the thread on to anyone. So my question is: Who interrupts my thread? Is there any way to tell? Is there a reason why the InterruptedException doesn't contain the name of the Thread that requests the interrupt? I read that it could be a framework or library that does this, we use the following, but I can't think of reason for them to interrupt my thread: Hibernate Spring Log4J Mysql connector

• Enable access for assistive device programmatically

  Hi All, I want to enable Access for assistive devices in System Preferences programmatically. But Problem is that my application is not running as root user and i do not want my application to be as root user and also should not ask for any authentication in between. I want to tap all keyboard events globally. I am using CGEventTapCreate() for the same.In the documentation of CGEventTapCreate() API it is mentioned that, Event taps receive key up and key down events if one of the following conditions is true: The current process is running as the root user. Access for assistive devices is enabled. In Mac OS X v10.4 & later, you can enable this feature using System Preferences, Universal Access panel, Keyboard view. I tried manually by checking the Enable Access for assistive devices from System Preference and it gives me expected output. So is there any way to do the same via program without asking for authentication and also application is not running as root user? Thanks, Dheeraj.

  Dear all, We are in the early phases for a big project that will be using SharePoint 2010 (not using webpart, but a whole independent application that will run inside Sharepoint).Out project is Web-enabled (we don;t want a Windows application). The options we have to code our project with are: -Asp.Net Application -WPF 4 -SilverLight 4. My question, what are the pros and cons for using WPF for such a project? Im choosing WPF because i know it's larger than Silverlight and we have more options with it. Is that right? Are there any limitations with WPF/Sharepoint 2010? Thanks.

For some weird reason google analytics shows a 49.7 percent bounce rate - I'm quite suprised as to why and how is this possible.   Hi all, I am new to Entity Framework and please pardon my ignorance. We have a simple application written using SQL Server and ADO.Net. Now we have got a new requirement that, whenever a particular rows get updated by our application, some business logic has to happen. I have been looking into Triggers in SQL server and it looks like we can do it using triggers. I am also looking at Entity Framework's OnPropertyChange capability. Is it possible to do it with "OnPropertyChange"? I mean, Can I create a model and implement "OnPropertyChange" method? And when our application modifies the rows using ADO.Net, then will it fire "OnPropertyChange" event so that my custome code in "OnPropertyChange" excutes? • [Cocoa] Core Animation with an NSView and subviews

  I've subclassed NSView to create a 'container' view (which I've called TRTransitionView) which is being used to house two subviews. At the click of a button, I want to transition one subview out of the parent view and transition the other in, using the Core Animation transition type: kCATransitionPush. For the most part, I have this working as you'd expect (here's a basic test project I threw together). The issue I'm seeing relates to resizing my window and then toggling between my two views. After resizing a window, my subviews will appear at seemingly random locations within my TRTransitionView. Additionally, it appears as if the TRTransitionView hasn't stretched correctly and is clipping the contents of its subviews. Ideally, I would like subviews anchored to the top-left of their parent view at all times, and to also grow to expand the size of the parent view. The second issue relates to an NSTableView I've placed in my first subview. When my window is resized, and my TRTransitionView resizes to match its new dimensions, my TableView seems to resize its content quite awkwardly (the entire table seems to jolt around) and the newly expanded space that the table now occupies seems to 'flash' (as if in the process of being animated). Extremely difficult to describe, but is there any way to stop this? • How should I move my code from dev to production?

  I have created a PHP web-application. I have 3 environments: DEV, TEST, PROD. What's a good tool / business practice for me to move my PHP web-application code from DEV to TEST to the PROD environment? Realizing that my TEST environment still only connects to my TEST database; whereas, I need to PROD environment to connect to my PROD database. So the code is mostly the same, except that I need to change my TEST code once moved into PROD to connect to the PROD database and not TEST database. I've heard of people taking down Apache in such away that it doesn't allow new connections and once all the existing connections are idle it simply brings down the web server. Then people manually copy the code and then manually update the config files of the PHP application to also point to the PROD instance. That seems terribly dangerous. Does a best practice exists?

  Hello. I'm looking into a possible feature for my little to-do application... I like the idea that I can send an email to a particular email address, containing a to-do task I need to complete, and this will be read by my web application and be put in the database... So, when I come to log into my application, the to-do task I emailed will be there as a entry in the app. Is this possible? I have a slice with SliceHost (basically a dedicated server) so I have total control on what to install etc. I'm using Python/Django/MySQL for this. Any ideas on what steps to take to make this happen?

• Opening a Silverlight project causes APPCRASH is Visual Studio 2008

  Hi guys I've got to add a Silverlight project to a solution for a deployment procedure (it's a pre-build dependency for the main project). I've installed Silverlight tools v3, silverlight itself and the silverlight sdk 3, and am using Visual Studio 2008 with ReSharper and the DevArt oracle database tools. • ASP.NET Website no Response while Processing Long Process

  Dear Programmers, When my Application face a long-time process, i.e fetch a query (SELECT a, b, c FROM d) This query needs 10 seconds to be completed in the MSSQL Management Studio, but when the ASP.NET application try to fetch it, it refuse to return any response to any other requests made on that Server. I am hosting my Application on VPS Server with good specifications, and I am giving this example the (SELECT a, b, c FROM d) just to tell you the issue, it can be any process, maybe processing a movie, or even fetching some data through external API that is experiencing some slow-down,or whatever. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated.

• NSIS Uninstaller Working Directory

  I am using NSIS to create my installers/uninstallers, and the uninstaller seems to have a weird behavior. I don't put the installer in $INSTDIR, it is located at $INSTDIR/subdir/uninstall.exe (it's a addon installer for a host application). When I run the installer then, it thinks the application installation root is $INSTDIR/subdir instead of $INSTDIR. It then can't find all the files in subdir/* as it's already in subdir. If I move the executable, it seems to just accept the current directory as where the application installation root is. I can move it to $INSTDIR and all is well. Thanks.

• WPF Composite - Expose EF model to all modules

  Hi All, I have an application that uses WPF Composite, and I have an issue. I've got a big database that is attached to the application and I need it exposed to different modules as part of the application. What is the best way to expose my Entity Framework model to all my different modules and views inside them? Do I have one EF model or a separate one for each module and then only the tables that each module needs. The only problem being that some tables have a relationship and will have different views and those views will be in different modules. Any ideas how to resolve this?

• QML 5.3 iOS compilation of pure QML app

  I have an application written in QML. Initially, I used the standard C++ bootstrap for the app. int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { QApplication app(argc, argv); // A bunch of components and data models written in C++ QQmlApplicationEngine engine; engine.load(QUrl(QStringLiteral("qrc:///main.qml"))); return app.exec(); } The bulk of the app is in QML and the more I work with QML, the happier I am with it and the more I feel comfortable converting the C++ pieces to QML. So, it comes to one risk that I wanted to ask about. If I convert the app to a pure QML application like the kind generated by the Qt Quick UI application wizard with no C++ and designed to be run with qmlscene will I be able to compile it for iOS when the time to port it comes or will I end up just converting it back to the C++ loader form? TL;DR Can pure QML (no C++) apps be compiled and run on iOS devices?

  Hi , Here's the problem I'm facing : trying to do my own application update I download the update apk from a web server on the sd card and then I launch the Package Installer with the downloading path ( while the old application is running) . So far after the package installer starts and the user agrees to install the application I get the following message " MyApp Could not be installed on this phone" and in the logcat then following message is printed : "No package identifier when getting value for resource number 0x00000000" . I could not find a reason for this behaviour , so please if there is something that I'm missing do point it to me !

  Folks, i'm having trouble with some navigation logic. Currently i have a simple two tabbed tabbar application. But i want to show a loginscreen in front. So that would be an UIView. Well, now i want to have a login screen. So that would be a simple UIView which pushes the tabbar controller. But i can't seem to see the logic on how to do this. I've been trying to present a modal view controller, but the thing is: the tabbar will be loaded on the background. Since i need the username/password information to work on the tabbarview, this won't work. My Logic would be: delegate load loginViewController load tabbar controller But, then i need to be able to "logout". So i need to destroy the tabbar controller and present the login screen. Any thoughts on this?

  Hello - I have written a tab based iPad application which has done well. I never intended for it to be an iPhone application because the content it displays really doesnt lend itself to such a small screen. However, I have been getting a lot of requestes for the application to be compatible with iPhones as well. Can someone point me in the direction of some documentation that may help me figure out how to convert my app. I presume it's not so simple as having aanother set of XIB files for iPhone and just have it display them if the app is running on a phone...

  I have an application that comes bundled with some content(say image, songs etc.). We want to have an in-app store, so that the user can buy contents and extend the experience. What are the different ways in which the above mentioned can be achieved? iPhone has Storekit framework that enables in-app purchases. So, our requirements wants us to follow the suit. Also, according to Android Markets(AM) distribution agreement, an Android application published via AM, is not allowed to accept payments from any Payment collectors other than the one Market provides and/or Google checkout. We have decided to integrate Paypal, now that they have published Mobile Payments Library to Android developers. If we do so, can we publish our application on Android Market?

• WPF EventRouting to Children

  Is there any way to broadcast a RoutedEvent to all of my children in WPF? For example lets say I have a Window that has 4 children. 2 of them know about the RoutedEvent 'DisplayYourself' and are listening for it. How can I raise this event from the window and have it sent to all children? I looked at RoutingStrategy and Bubble is the wrong direction, Tunnel and Direct don't work because I don't know which children I want to send this to. • ADO "Unspecified Error" instead of actual error when fetching server side cursor

  This relates to my recent question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2835663/force-oracle-error-on-fetch I am now able to reproduce a scenario where using ADO with the Oracle OLEDB Provider, I can force an error such as ORA-01722: invalid number to occur on calling Recordset.MoveNext However, this is not the error that is returned to the application. Instead, the application sees Provider error '80004005' Unspecified error. How can I get the application to see the real error from the database? This is with Oracle 10g (client and server), if it matters.
