• Mac | Port Forwarding for Remote Desktop

  I have two Mac notebooks at home, I have assigned them static private IPs. I have also set my router to a DynDNS address, which updates everytime my router gets a new public IP. I have enabled Screen Sharing on both notebooks. I can successfully goto my router webpage using the DynDNS address. I understand I need to port-forward to get Screen Sharing to work from outside. Lets assume, notebooks have private IP 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 I am kind of lost here, would appreciate some help (I need to be able remote desktop to both notebooks)

• Maximum MTU size

  Thought one of the issues I'm experiencing with the following question is due to MTU rightfully so. ESXi 5 VM Putty session hangs, vSphere client timing out However, when I tried testing the maximum MTU size it seems there's just no limit. Thought Ethernet only allows maximum MTU. • Windows 7 has trouble installing software with Visual C++ 2005 & 2008

  I have been reinstalling Windows 7 over and over again on an ASUS P5lD2 2Gb Ram 3Ghz P4 because it ultimately loses the contents of "Turn Windows Features On or Off" after I install software like Autocad 2010 & Microsoft Office 2007. I get install errors like 1935 and 1704 on the way tried different fixes at different times (install software in different order to try and isolate problem too). Ultimately I force the software to install after much buggering and end up losing the contents of "TWFOOO" Should I be installing some older items like .net framework 1.1, 2.0 and Visual Studio items like vcredist_x86.exe? getting a bit lost because of compounded problems...

  iTunes <- iPhone. At sync time, a back-up is performed. Which data is included, which data is not? i.e. are songs (potentially redundant) backed-up so that a computer ends up having both the source file on the filesystem and the copy within the device back-up? Is anything on the iPhone filesystem not backed up? (i.e. on a Mac using Time Machine, some files are excluded from the back-up even if not all of them can be recreated upon restore - I lost my postfix config this way..)

• What is a good motherboard for the Intel i7 series processor?

  I am lost on choosing a good miotherboard at a decent price for my Intel i7-930 CPU. I have read bad things about all of them so far. Issues with RAM not working correctly, Windows not loading with USB keyboards plugged in and all kinds of nightmare stories. Here is my needs. - 6g/b SATA 3 - USB 3.0 - Cheaper is better - Support for up to 24gb of RAM, I will start out with only 12gb though - I will use 64bit v. of Windows 7 so the 4gb RAM limit should not be a problem from my OS - Should be able to boot even if I have a USB keyboard plugged in. If you have experience with a motherboard that meets these specs, please do tell about it. I appreciate any help, I am stuck right now on picking a good board.

• LAMP: How do I set up http://myservername.com/~user access?

  Been trying to Google this, but I can't figure out good search terms to find any info about what I need, since I don't really know what it's called. I'm pretty much being thrown to the wolves to figure out how to set up a LAMP server. We had someone who knew how to do it, he set one up and then quit. It was set up so that when I went to "http://{myservername}.com/~travis" it showed the contents of my /home/travis/public_html folder. This worked fine, then we lost power and the server restarted (I know, battery backup, but this is a dev server in a dev building so it's OK). Now, the browser can't find that URL. I also need to know how to set this up on a new server, so instead of wasting time diagnosing this problem (probably just something dumb I did messing with settings or something), I really need to know how to set this up from scratch. • Limited access to Amazon S3 buckets

  Is it possible to somehow limit the access to an Amazon S3 account. I don't really like the idea of distributing my secret access key to all of my applications, that want to access just a single bucket on my account. If someone gains access to one of the applications, I could loose all my data stored on S3. One way I was thinking to do it would be creating a second S3 account and give it access to just one bucket of the main account, but it's not really a great solution. Another nice thing for me would be to give the secondary account only write (but not modify/delete) and read access. That way I could upload backups or other files and be sure, that they won't get lost.

• Disconnected from WiFi, Windows claims otherwise [closed]

  I'm connected via wifi to my ISP's router/modem. While Windows says that I'm always connected, I keep getting messages from Netgear Genie that I've lost contact to the Internet, and I cannot access webpages until it comes back. There are two other computers in the house, one connected to the router via ethernet, the other via wifi, both seem to have no such problems. I've wondered if Netgear genie itself was the problem, but I am regularly disconnected even if I uninstall it. And I'd rather have it since it accurently tells me if I'm connected or not. Why does windows says I'm online if I can't access any online game, or website ? I've removed the connection, recreated it, I've even copied the settings to a usb key from the computer that has wifi access. Is there a tool that can tell me which program, if any, is disconecting me ?

• Windows 7 just corrupted Microsoft F# and now won't fix itself.

  I lost half a year's worth of custom CGAL/GMP/LEDA/Qt3/Qt4/MPFR/MPFI/Visual Studio/Boost/blahblahblah open source nonsense with DLLs that are scattered in various parts of the OS that I had gotten to finally work. All because F#, which came with .NET 4 and which I never, ever used, is now "corrupted" one day for reasons only Windows 7 knows, and now Windows 7 won't even boot. Of course none--none--of the above setup works as accessed from the USB port. How do I remove a corrupted file that prevents a Windows 7 from booting, or even being fixed by an external CD mount of the Windows 7? Thanks for any help.

  Hi Dudes, Installed Win 2008 server and IIS7. Enabled ASP Classic and ASP.NET on it. Can't get any ASP scripts to run e.g. desperate.asp containing following line: <% Response.Write "Hello Love, Fancy a Date?" % It just comes up with a "FILE DOWNLOAD - SECURITY WARNING" panel asking em to download. When I select anything it keeps looping. Found lots fo stuff on internet but nothing working. Also same for other ASP scripts HTML works no problem e.g. a file called reply.html containing: Get lost little boy. We only serve French Fries in Macdonalds Any ideas?

• Windows 7 PC browsers having trouble to open certain sites but not others

  Hi, My Win7 PC these days acting very weird: Examples: It can not open bing.com, alexa.com, msdn.microsoft.com (blank page or page can not be found); It can open zdnet.com but lost all CSS layouts and pictures; It can open stackoverflow and Google no problem; I tried all three browsers (IE8, Chrome, Firefox 3.6) same thing. I didn't change anything on this PC in days. This PC does have Anti-Virus installed and updated. I'm also pretty sure it's not a network problem, because my other laptops are just fine at the same time. The only thing I can think of is it might be some auto-update stuff underneath happened without my knowledge, but I have no idea where to troubleshoot? Please shed some lights for me? Thanks a lot.

• BGP Router reccomendations for simple redundancy [closed]

  We have two sites that each have an internet connection and have a dedicated dark fibre between them. Each site has it's own IP space and we have an AS number. We're looking to be resilient to failure of the internet connection to either site and so need to buy a pair of approriate routers. Requirements are: Able to run 2 bgp sessions (one with the ISP, one with the other site router) Option to take a full table from the upstream ISPs would be nice. Able to provide HA gateways on the LAN side (e.g. 192.168.0.254 will automatically migrate if it's host router lost power) A dedicated device rather than a server running Linux / BSD Not crazy expensive. Any help / advice much appreciated.

  From a Windows 7 machine, I ping an IP address of a turned-off machine. C:\>ping 192.168.1.222 Pinging 192.168.1.222 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.1.222: Destination host unreachable. What I am trying to do, is figure out if a remote machine is replying to ping. One of my tests is to turn off the machine and ping it. For some reason, ping sets errorlevel to 0.

• How can I see logs in a server after a kernel panic hang?

  I am running a production gentoo Linux machine, and recently there was a situation where the server hung in my co-located premises and when I got there I noticed that the server was hung on what appeared to be a kernel panic hang. I rebooted the machine with a hard reboot and was disappointed to find out that I could not find a shred of evidence anywhere on why the machine hung. Is it true that when I do a hard reboot the messages itself will get lost or is there a setting I can do somewhere say in syslog-ng or maybe in sysctl to at least preserve the error log so that I can prevent such mishaps from happening in the future ? I am running a 2.6.x kernel by the way. Thanks in advance.

• www-data can upload a file but cant move it after the upload action

  I am currently running Apache and PHP on Ubuntu. I have a page where a user is supposed to upload a profile image. The action on the backend is supposed to work like this: Upload file to user directory -- WORKS! Refer to the uploaded file and create a thumbnail in directory thumbs -- DOES NOT WORK www-data has write access to directory thumbs. My guess is that www-data for some reason does not have proper access to the file that was uploaded. • Completely clean previous Radeon drivers on Windows 7 64bit

  Recently I replaced my old Radeon HD 2600XT to Radeon HD 6770 from MSI. I had strange problem that after installing the newest Radeon drivers they exist only until first reboot. After reboot my new card is recognized as an old 2600. I tried to unintall ATI/AMD software completetely from Programs/Features, then reboot, then untinstall driver from device manager, then reboot, then system showed that display driver is regular VGA (and oldschool 640x480 resolutions). Then to be double sure I executed DriverCleaner3 and Driver sweeper. After the restart I installed the newest drivers from amd site but after restarting the system recognizes card as 2600. I'm completely lost. Perhaps Win7 64bit caches somewhere drivers? Are there any issues regarding drivers-shadowing or 32/64 mirroring? Reinstalling the system is not an option.

  I am using 10EC2 Instances behind 1 ELB. And ELB configured 80 to 8080 and 443 to 8080 port. And all 10EC2 instances having installed with Apache Tomcat, total request on ELB around 8000 to 10000 in 1 minute. I am facing problem for CLOSE_WAIT connection on 10 EC2 Instance, having Apache Tomcat. EC2 Instance Type : m1.xlarge When we restart the Apache Tomcat, all CLOSE_WAIT connections are lost, but its not proper way to work on Production Instances. Please help me out.

  We get this error from out citrix server: Your user profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off. Please see the event log for details or contact your administrator. I am well aware there is a workaround by Citrix, that can be found here, but that doesn't permanently fix our issue. It seems to come back. Any idea why that happens? Any suggestions on how to fix it? Citrix version is 4.5 running on Windows 2003 x32 EDIT 14.IX.2012 @ 16.03 CT I am sorry, let me clarify, it happens to some users, not all and not all the time.

  Hi everyone, Forgive me for my ignorance,firstly. Problem: Say I have a lossy mp3 audio file(5.17Mb ie. 87% compressed from its original souce-unknown), I then encode it to another LOSSLESS format, say FLAC or WAVPACK. The size increases(23.14Mb ie. 39% compressed from its original souce-mp3)! ID tags, etc remain the same and there's no way of checking the integrity of its origin. Question: Is there a way of checking that the so-called FLAC or WAVPACK audio file was originally encoded from a LOSSLESS source(wav,cda,ape,...etc) instead of a LOSSY source(mp3,aac,ATRAC,..etc) Thank you. • Alias a Virtual Directory or Application as Root on IIS 7

  Our current IIS setup as two applications running on different paths at (for example) http://server/sub-a and http://server/sub-b. I want to alias http://server/sub-a as root so that just going to http://server/ will bring up the contents of sub-a. The problem I face is that when I initially set up a ReverseProxy it negatively affected http://server/sub-b. I know this is a fairly common problem- how have you solved it? 99.9% of my experience is with Apache, so I feel a tad lost in the GUI world of IIS.

  Hi, Do you know any software or compilations that you recommend to handle drivers and codecs for newly formated computer? I am having problem gathering drivers and codecs when I format my computer or other's computer because we frequently misplace it's original drivers. I need an offline solution that doesn't need internet. Same for as the codec, when formating computer we frequently lost our codecs, are there codec packs you know that you would like to recommend? • Multiple VLANs on a single subnet

  I would like to establish the setup shown below. The image is taken from (http://gcharriere.com/blog/?p=620) and explains how to set this up on a brocade device. I would like to use an ubuntu server to do the routing. Right now, the switch and the server/router are connected with a trunk and the server uses the vlan package, kernel module and (inner) subnets for routing. I would like that: no IP addresses get lost in the subnetting (outer subnet is /26, inner subnets are /28) I don't want the rigorous subdivision of my outer subnet. I want to assign a VLAN to any IP in the outer subnet. How do I need to configure my interfaces? What is the "ubuntu" translation of "ip follow ve"? Thanks!

  Using Jeff's blog post I'm creating domain keys for my account. I wanted to verify the setup using Get or Host command with Bind for Windows but I'm lost one of the commands. I can see view the _domainkey. txt file with this command: host -t txt _domainkey.stackoverflow.com but I'm at a loss at how I'd find the selector record. Jeff points out it can be anything before the before the period in "._domainkey.domain.com" but how would I list all records if I didn't know the exact query name? Is there a wildcard I could use to view all TXT or all records under this section?

• Django freezes when adding objects through the admin

  I have a Django 1.1 website running via Apache/mod_wsgi with a PostgreSQL 8.3.1 database. Recently, when I added objects through the admin interface, the connection froze up and I lost several worker processes, so I had to restart Apache. Upon trying to replicate this, I found that it only happens through the admin: if I go into the Django shell and issue the same insert, it works fine. Also, performing an UPDATE operation works without issues, so just INSERTs. I've rebuilt indexes on PostgreSQL and run a full VACUUM. Error logs don't show anything, and I can't figure out for the life of me what's wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
