  Hi all: I moved one years ago from classic OO languages such like Java to Javascript. The following code is definitely not recommended (or even not correct) in Java: if(dayNumber = getClickedDayNumber(dayInfo)) { alert("day number found"); } function getClickedDayNumber(dayInfo) { dayNumber = dayInfo.indexOf("fc-day"); if(dayNumber != -1) //substring found { //normally any calendar month consists of "40" days, so this will definitely pick up its day number. return parseInt(dayInfo.substring(dayNumber+6, dayNumber+8)); } else return false; } Basically I just found out that I can assign a variable to a value in an if condition statement, and immediately check the assigned value as if it is boolean. For a safer bet, I usually separate that into two lines of code, assign first then check the variable, but now that I found this, I am just wondering whether is it good practice or not in the eyes of experienced javascript developers? • how to handle it if the management just keep on giving me spec after spec non-stop?

  As a programmer, I feel burnt out if the management give me spec after spec, day after day. I think I can code 6 hours a day very focused, but non-stop coding does burn me out a little, especially it is 1 year or 18 months non-stop. A mere 1 week or 2 week vacation per year isn't going to help much. Sometimes I want to take some time to learn new things, or just to take a break for a month so as to re-charge, like back in college when we have holidays for 1 month during winter or 2.5 months during summer. What do you think?

  Hello, I'm using Crystal Reports for Eclipse 2.0.4 and I have a problem. I use a formula in an report to subtract one day from a string which is a date: ToText(CDate({Agreement.EndDate})-1, "dd.MM.yyyy"); This works for the German locale. With an English locale, the calculation is absolutely wrong because the day and month is interchanged. For example: When {Agreement.EndDate} is 07.05.2010 and I subtract one day from it, I get 06.04.2010 with the German locale but 04.07.2010 with an English locale. How can I solve this that I works for different locales?

• What good timesheet should and shouldn't have for a small (non programming) 50 people company?

  I'm sure most people here had to fill at least one time sheet in their life that made their life miserable, hell it's even the worst time taker ever especially after you have to fill it in hurry. I will be developing some simple TimeSheet application for a small company of 50 people (non programming related, it's actually 4 companies working together) and would like it to be user friendly and as less disturbing as possible. So what in your opinion makes it a good timesheet (lack of it doesn't count :p), what data it should store? Should be only hours per day with possibility to choose project, company and simple overview what you have worked on like: Day 1, 3:00, 'Company 1', 'Project5', 'Name', Short Overview Day 1, 5:00, 'Company 2', 'Project6', 'Name', Short Overview Or should it gather more data? Would it be realy bad if it were an WinForms application considering that I don't know ASP.NET or any other web based language? I would be deploying it using ClickOnce or so.

For example, given a time period of 5 days, what is the maximum number of times user 111 walked the dog? The most obvious solution would be to start at some zero point and move forward each day, summing up 5 day periods along the way, then taking the maximum total out of all the 5 day windows. the approach seems incredibly costly however. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.

  How do I count the number of records in a MySQL table based on a timestamp column per unit of time where the unit of time is arbitrary? Specifically, I want to count how many record's timestamps fell into 15 minute buckets during a given interval. I understand how to do this in buckets of 1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day etc. using MySQL date functions, e.g. SELECT YEAR(datefield) Y, MONTH(datefield) M, DAY(datefield) D, COUNT(*) Cnt FROM mytable GROUP BY YEAR(datefield), MONTH(datefield), DAY(datefield) but how can I group by 15 minute buckets?

I don't find the syntax which will allow me to pass the array of arrays to the second function... Could you please help? • How do you manage your time as a team leader?

  Where I work, my role has been evolving from a pure development role to team leadership. I find that this suits me, and I'm generally enjoying it. One aspect of the job that continually vexes me, though, is time management. My day used to be pure coding. Now, I still have a largely full plate of coding duties, but I'm expected to mentor other developers, work on requirements, make design decisions for other developers, evaluate bug reports from users, assign them to developers, and so on. I find that my day has become on interruption after another and the prolonged periods of sustained concentration needed to get any actual quality coding done are becoming rarer and rarer. Today, I finally grabbed my laptop and escaped to a coffee shop so I could get some actual work done. How do the team leads here manage their day -- or manage their workplace -- so they don't let their administrative tasks overwhelm them?

  I need to create a MySQL query that generates 4 rows for each row in the table it references. I need some of the information in those rows to repeat and some to be different. In the table each row stands for one day. I need to break the day up in 6 hour increments, hence the four rows for each entry. I need to create one column which for each day will have '12AM', '6AM', '12PM', and '6PM' values and another column will have the corresponding numeric values calculated for those entries.   If in a database (MySQL), I have a datetime column (ex. 1899-12-30 19:00:00), how do I sum 1 day to it? Following http://corelib.rubyonrails.org/classes/Time.html#M000240 If I want to add 1 day, it actually adds 60*60*24 days (86,400 days) r=Record.find(:first) =>Sat, 30 Dec 1899 19:00:00 -0600 r.date + (60*60*24) =>Fri, 20 Jul 2136 19:00:00 -0600 But if I do this it actually adds 1 day: t = Time.now =>Mon Jun 14 10:32:51 -0600 2010 t + (60 * 60 * 24) =>Tue Jun 15 10:33:21 -0600 2010 I guess it has to do with the format...how do I make this work?

  Hey y'all. Is this possible using jQuery/PHP? I am looking to have my webpage automatically go to a different web page at a certain time of day. For example, i have a 'breakfast' page that is supposed to auto-redirect to the 'Lunch' (www.mylunchpage.com) page at noon. Then the lunch page go to 'Dinner' (www.mydinnerpage.com) page at 5pm. I want it all based on time of day on not on a timer. Yes, the browser will be open all day... Any idea on how to make this work? Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

And at another day when a new logfileDate created i want to mail the previous day Logfile and delete that file after sending. Everything happened but when It is going to delete its shows file is accessed by another process. So I need to refresh that folder after sending mail so that it got free with buffer. I'm not using IIS and i dont want it to use.

• CDateTimeCtrl - preventing 'focus' change when setting date

  I'd like to use a CDateTimeCtrl to allow the user to select a non-weekend date. So, if the user increments the day (via a keypress) - and the resulting day is found to fall on a weekend - then the control should skip forward to the following Monday (don't let issues about month changes distract you, it's not relevant). Usually it's not a problem: when I handle the DTN_DATETIMECHANGE notification I can check the new date/time and if it's found to be a weekend then I can call SetTime on the control to update the date. However, if I set the style to DTS_SHOWNONE, this call to SetTime causes the control to shift the input 'focus' (term used loosely) to the 'none' checkbox, e.g. away from the day field. This prevents the user from using keyboard input to continue incrementing the date unless they subsequently use the right arrow key to reset the 'focus', which is just nasty. I would dearly like to prevent this focus shift from occurring. Is it even possible?

  I want to subtract a time-span from a date-time object. Date is 1983/5/1 13:0:0 (y/m/d-h:m:s) Time span is 2/4/28-2:51:0 (y/m/d-h:m:s) I can use the native DateTime and TimeSpan objects to do this, after converting years and months of the time-span to days (assuming a 30 day month and a ~364 day year). new DateTime(1981,5,1,13,0,0).Subtract(new TimeSpan(878,13,51,0)); With this i get the result: {12/4/1978 11:09:00 PM} But this is not exactly what i expected. If i do this manually (assuming a 30 day month) i get 1981/0/3-10:9:0 This is pretty close to what i'm after except i shouldn't get 0 for month and year should be 1980. So can someone please show me how i can do this manually and avoid getting a 0 month value? Also why do i get a completely different value when i use native classes?

  I'm trying to write my first iPhone app, and I'm using a date picker object for the user to enter their date of birth. Part of my app requires the year in int format. I've added the code as below. What's odd is that 'month' gets the right value. But day and year seem to be stuck at MAX_INT (2147483647).   I've got a database with pre-aggregated metrics similar to the one outlined in this use case: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/use-cases/pre-aggregated-reports/ I have a daily collection with a subdocument for hour and minute metrics, and a 'metadata.date' entry for midnight on the day it represents. I also have a monthly collection with a day subdocument for each day. If I want to get an average of a metric over the past eight or so days how can I do that with the aggregation framework? Is the aggregation framework not the right tool for this since it's already pre-aggregated?
