    I have a database server with many poorly written queries that causes the sql server to spike then drop constantly ( a massive start from scratch is happening). I need to know if the cpu allocation on the vm to expand as needed is best practice for a case like this. I am wondering if the esxi platform cant expand as fast as the spikes happen. I am curious what is best practice for vm cpu allocation on sql server (with horribly written queries)

    I am getting the UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME error on my Samsung laptop which does not have a CD Rom drive. I tried to merge the C and D partitions to get more space but since then the laptop does not start up anymore. I dont care about the laptop, just about some pictures on there which I did not back up yet. I really hope someone can help me?!! I am a new user, so cant post pictures, but can send a screenshot if needed.

    Since I installed Windows 8 Preview on my personal computer, during the installation of some programs and drivers(Windows 7 ones) started to pop me a message warning that .Net Framework 3.5 was needed: I could use "Install this feature", start to download some dependencies(300MB) and that's it, but I don't want to have to download it every time I want to enable this feature on every machine that I install Windows 8. There is some way to install .Net 3.5 on Windows 8 without having to download the entire Framework from Microsoft?

    I've dedicated box that hosts wordpress blog with huge traffic. I need mail functionality for me and 2 other employees. I also need mail send capability for fail2ban and logwatch applications. I don't want to stress this box too much, so I wonder: How scure can postfix be? Will I stress server beyond needed with antivirus and mail filters? and postfix? The need is; they should open in the current window. Note that, bookmarks menu works as expected and opens bookmarks in current window, the same is needed on bookmarks toolbar.     Hi All, I've been tasked with comparing the monitoring capabilities in SCOM 2007 with the established SQL products such as Spotlight, SQLSentry, etc. I'm pretty sure that SCOM can't do some of the more in-depth stuff that those products do, but can it be configured/programmed to alert on the most often encountered problems via VBScript and TSQL. Does anyone have an idea of what type of development effort would be needed for this? Thanks for any and all help.

  • Collecting and viewing statistical data on website usage? Want to give Google Analytics the boot.

    I have always been somewhat reluctant to "outsource" site statistics to Google. We have an Apache server running on a Windows server. I am pretty sure all the foundation to collect the needed visitor data are there. I would like to stop using GA, and use some form of application where the data does not travel to a third party but remains at the host, or at least travels to the remote administrator, if it is a log analyzer in a browser. What are my options?

  • Illustrator export layers to png and keep layer names

    I have a set of 300 or so .ai files in which I will need to open each, separate one main layer into two (probably have to create an extra layer manually, and move needed stuff into that layer manually). Then I want to export those two layers to PNG. I would like to keep the layers' name in the output filenames. Any suggestion here? The save for web/devices doesn't seem to have an option for saving files using layer names.

  • Assign a secondary IP address to a Windows machine using DHCP

    Is it possible to configure dhcpd (on a Linux box) to assign a Windows PC 2 separate IP configurations? Right now I've configured the two IP addresses manually and it does exactly what's needed, but I can't figure out how to achieve the same thing with DHCP. For example, is it possible to set up a virtual interface that piggy-backs onto the first interface and gets its own configuration? Alternatively, is it possible to run a script upon getting IP values from DHCP that would then be able to configure the secondary IP?

    For a frequent task, I need a file manager window open with about 8 tabs, each a different location. I'd like to be able to open the tabs once and then save them as a "tab set", so that in future sessions, I can simply open a file manager and restore the saved tab set, without having to open each tab manually. I'm running Mint 16 with Thunar, but could use a different file manager if needed. Is there a way to do this?
