  • CSS div/overflow Question: Why does the first HTML file work but not the second?

    Notice how the first HTML/CSS works when you re-size the browser horizontally. It will shrink no further than around 800 pixels, but it will expand as far as you drag the right edge of the browser. It will also correctly overflow the table at the top and scroll it horizontally. The thing I don't like about the first code snippet is where the scrollbar is. I want it to show up within the borders of the fieldset, so even if I narrow the browser down to 800 pixels wide, I can see both the left and right sides of the fieldset's border. The second code snippet is exactly the same as the first except I add another div tag to the mix, inside of the field set and around the grid. Notice how the top fieldset's width won't correctly shrink when you make the viewport of your browser narrower. Any ideas on why it doesn't work, what I can do to get it to work like the first code snippet? I don't think I'm describing this clearly, but if you run the two side by side, and expand and contract the horizontal edge of your browser windows, you'll see the differences between the two. I'm pretty new to CSS and HTML layout, so my understanding of why CSS handles sizing the way it does in some situations is still really confusing to me.   • Powershell / .Net: Get a reference to an object returned by a method

    I am teaching myself PowerShell by writing a simple parser. I use the .Net framework class Collections.Stack. I want to modify the object at the top of the stack in place. I know I can pop() the object off, modify it, and then push() it back on, but that strikes me as inelegant. First, I tried this: $stk = new-object Collections.Stack $stk.push( (,'My first value') ) ( $stk.peek() ) += ,'| My second value' Which threw an error: Assignment failed because [System.Collections.Stack] doesn't contain a settable property 'peek()'. At C:\Development\StackOverflow\PowerShell-Stacks\test.ps1:3 char:12 + ( $stk.peek <<<< () ) += ,'| My second value' + CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (peek:String) [], RuntimeException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ParameterizedPropertyAssignmentFailed Next I tried this: $ary = $stk.peek() $ary += ,'| My second value' write-host "Array is: $ary" write-host "Stack top is: $($stk.peek())" Which prevented the error but still didn't do the right thing: Array is: My first value | My second value Stack top is: My first value Clearly, what is getting assigned to $ary is a copy of the object at the top of the stack, so when I the object in $ary, the object at the top of the stack remains unchanged. Finally, I read up on teh [ref] type, and tried this: $ary_ref = [ref]$stk.peek() $ary_ref.value += ,'| My second value' write-host "Referenced array is: $($ary_ref.value)" write-host "Stack top is still: $($stk.peek())" But still no dice: Referenced array is: My first value | My second value Stack top is still: My first value I assume the peek() method returns a reference to the actual object, not the clone. If so, then the reference appears to be being replaced by a clone by PowerShell's expression processing logic. Can somebody tell me if there is a way to do what I want to do? Or do I have to revert to pop() / modify / push()?

  • Position absolute for rounded corners and problems in IE6

    Im using position absolute to give the top left corner of a DIV a rounded corner. HTML: <div id="MyDiv"> Some content <div class="topLeft">&nbsp</div> </div> CSS: #MyDiv { position: relative; padding: 12px; background: #fff url('graident.png') repeat-x top left; } .topLeft { position: absolute; top: 0; right: 0; width: 10px; height: 10px; background: transparent url('corner.png') no-repeat top right; } This works fine in all browsers expcept IE6. In IE6 the corner.png image seems to be about 1px out at the top corner, essentially not top: 0; and right: 0; but more like top: 1px; right: 1px; Can anyone explain why this might be happening only in IE6?

    I'm trying to use javascript to give three divs a negative top position equal to their height. I've got it working, sort of (thanks to help from here!) but instead of calculating the height of each div and calculating the top position accordingly, each div is being assigned a negative top position of -367px: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { //Get height of footer popup var pHeight = $('footer ul li > ul').outerHeight(); //Calculate new top position based on footer popup height var nHeight = pHeight + "px"; $('footer ul li > ul').css({ //Change top position to equal height of footer popup 'top' : "-" + nHeight }); }); </script> I've tried this using .height, .outerheight, and even .getheight which someone mentioned on the Jquery documentation for .height. I also tried using an each statement, though it didn't seem to work; I may have written it incorrectly. In addition (if possible), I'd like the negative position to take into account the height of a content being generated using the css :after psuedo-property, though I can always manually add that in to the calculation if javascript has no way to access that. EDIT: Added a test page link.   • grouping two sites under domain and sub domain

    I have 2 websites a main website hosted at fasthosts and an e-commerce website hosted at Vidahost. I want to combine both websites under the same domain set. Main site would be www.mydomain.com Store site would be shop.mydomain.com I want to keep the directory path showing on the shop subdomain so what was previously www.mystore.com/product/hat would become shop.mydomain.com/product/hat How can I accomplish this, have already created the subdomain on fasthosts and setup web forwarding to the store but the directory paths do not show.

    I have setup a dedicated LAN for Cobbler tests. My setup is: Cobbler server: openSUSE 12.3, cobbler 2.2.2 (from openSUSE repos) Imported distros: Centos 6.5, Red Hat 6.5, Red Hat 7.0, openSUSE 13.1 Target Machine: VMs in a Windows 7 Virtualbox Systems provisioning works OK, but I have some problems. The first one is that cobbler does not honor the "pxe_just_once: 1" setting. When the setup of the target OS is finished, after the reboot the target systems continues to PXE boot! The second problem is that the target server is not correctly configured!   • ie7 innerhtml strange display problem

    Hello, I am having a strange problem with ie7 (ie8 in compatibility mode). I have div containers where I am updating values using javascript innhtml to update the values. This works fine in Firefox and ie8. In ie7 the values do not update but if a click on the values and highlight them then they update, also if a change the height of the browser then on the next update the values get updated correctly. I have figured out that if I change the position property of the outer div container from relative to static then the updates work correctly. The page can be viewed here http://islendingasogur.net/test/webmap_html_test.html In internet explorer 8 with compatibility turned on you can see that the timestamp in the gray box only gets updated one time, after that you see no changes. The timestamp in the lower right corner gets updated every 10 seconds. But if you highlight the text in the gray box then the updated timestamp values appears!   • Mac - Flash file not loaded in independent flash player

    Hi, I am working on an independent application to play flash files on Mac. I have already done the same for Linux, and it works flawlessly but on mac for some reason flash is not drawing to my window. It is not throwing any kind of error too. I am using Flash player 10, that would mean that I am using the Core Graphics drawing model. I am able to send mouse events to flash and wrote a sample plugin to check if there was a problem in the context that I was sending, but my sample plugin draws properly to the window. I am getting a call for NPN_InvalidateRect twice and as a response I send an update Event back to flash. I drew a dummy rectangle to check that my context is correct. I have flipped the context to make the origin as top left corner. On doing right click on the debug version of the flash player it shows the following message: "Movie not loaded..." Can anyone give me any idea why is the content not being drawn? I would really appreciate the help, as I have been struggling with it for more than a month now.   • Binding a wpf listbox to a combobox

    Hi there, I have created a very basic wpf application that I want to use to record time entries against different projects. I havent used mvvm for this as I think its an overkill. I have a form that contains a combobox and a listbox. I have created a basic entity model like this What I am trying to do is bind the combobox to Project and whenever I select an item from the combobox it updates the listview with the available tasks associated with that project. This is my xaml so far. I dont have any code behind as I have simply clicked on that Data menu and then datasources and dragged and dropped the items over. For example, integer 1 and 2 is inside an array in order of writing. And if I call StackPop(), the integer 2 will be popped out, and if I call QueuePop(), the integer 1 will be popped out. My problem is that I don't know what happens if I do both stack and queue operations on the same array. The example above is easy to work out, because there are only two values involved. But what if there are more than 2 values involved? For example, if I call StackPush(1); QueuePush(2); QueuePush(4); StackPop(); StackPush(5); QueuePop(); what values will be returned in the order of bottom(front) from the final array? I know that if I code a program, I would receive a quick answer. But the reason I'm asking this is because I want to hear a logical explanations from a human being, not a computer.

    I am building an iPad app where I needed to allow resizing views functionality using divider view provided between two views. This divider view is just a 20px height view between two half screen content views - please refer attached images. When user scrolls this divider view up or down, both content views changes their sizes appropriately. I have extended UIView and implemented this using touchMoved delegate as code given below in touchesMoved delegate. It works fine. The only thing is missing with TouchMoved is you can't flick divider view to top or bottom directly. You have to scroll all the way to top or bottom! To support flicking the view I have tried UIPanGestureRecognizer but I don't see smooth scrolling with it. When I handle split position change in UIGestureRecognizerStateChanged state, just touching divider view flick it to top or bottom. Handling split position change in UIGestureRecognizerStateEnded does the same but I don't see content view resizing with dividerview scrolling! Could someone please tell me how could I achieve both smooth scrolling of divider view with resizing content views(like touchMoved) and flicking the view. Any alternative approach would also fine. Is there any way to make them total invisible? i.e., what I'm trying to do is make it as though the banner is a solid color, even though it's a gradient. Thanks in advance for any help!

    I am trying to create a program that asks the User to type three words and sort them in lexicographic order. EXAMPLE; Enter three words separated by spaces: Pear Orange Apple Apple Orange Pear The program is working fine (if I attempt the above example) except for one type of combination example that I will show below. EXAMPLE; Enter three words separated by spaces: Orange Apple Pear Apple Pear Pear The program is skipping the first word (Orange) if it is supposed to appear in the middle of the three words.
