• c++ classes & lua

  I want to have C++ objects that I can read/write in both C++ & Lua. I have looked at: http://www.lua.org/pil/28.html However, I do not like that solution, since my objects have constructors & destructors (and they are important as I use RAII and these take care of reference counts). What I don't like in the PIL solution is that the object is allocated in Lua's heap. What i want instead, is to create hte C++ object on my own, and just have lua have a way to do get/set on them. Does anyone have a good tutorial/link on this? Tanks!

• Best way to save info in hash

  I have a webpage that the user inputs data into a textarea and then process and display it with some javascript. For example if the user types: _Hello_ *World* it would do something like: <underline>Hello</underline> <b>World</b> Or something like that, the details aren't important. Now the user can "save" the page to make it something like site.com/page#_Hello_%20*World* and share that link with others. My question is: Is this the best way to do this? Is there a limit on a url that I should be worried about? Should I do something like what jsfiddle does? I would prefer not to as the site would work offline if the full text would be in the hash, and as the nature of the site is to be used offline, the user would have to first cache the jsfiddle-like hash before they could use it. What's the best way to do this?

• Can I modify an ASP.NET AJAX History Point?

  I'm using ASP.NET 3.5 with AJAX and have enabled history on the Script Manager. I have 2 pages, Default.aspx and Default2.aspx. I'm using the AJAX History on the Default.aspx page and saving history points on the server-side. There are some dropdowns on Default.aspx that I don't want to save a history point for each change but would like to save the latest state so that when I click on a link on Default.aspx that navigates to Default2.aspx, when I click the back button on Default2.aspx to return I want the dropdowns to reflect what they were prior to clicking on the hyperlink. So what I'd like to do is modify the history point that I originally set on one of my ajax async postbacks on the client-side before the page navigates away to Default2.aspx. There is a location.hash javascript property that looks like it may do what I want but when I modify the value the Script Manager Navigate event is firing. Is there a way to prevent this event from firing? And would this then do the job?

  I have a list of posts and an edit link for each. When clicking edit it goes to a page where I can edit the specific post I clicked on. For this I will have to pull from the db the id of the post. Would this be the correct way to do it? <a href="<?php echo site_url("post/edit/$row->id"); ?>">Edit</a> post is my controller, edit is my function, and $row->id should pull the id of the post.

• Installing Qt libraries on OS X

  I'm trying to install the Qt 4.8.3 precompiled libraries downloaded from http://qt-project.org/downloads on my OS X 10.6 machine. Unfortunately the package doesn't seem to actually install any libraries (although it claims to do so in the readme) I've read loads of instructions of how to configure and build Qt from source but these are precompiled, as in 'you don't have to compile them yourself'. So I must be missing something. Is there anyone out there who knows how to actually install Qt on OS X so that it is possible to link against them -without- building the whole thing from source. Thanks

• Mysql SELECT with an OR across 2 columns

  I'm creating a 'similar items' link table. i have a 2 column table. both columns contains product ids. The table is showing that these items are similar. However ids in the left column are more valuable. Say i want to select similar items to product '125b'. i only want 3 similar items to 125b. If there are any instances of 125b in col1 I would prefer these to finding 125b in col2. so i need a select statement along the lines of SELECT * FROM similar_items WHERE col_1={$id} OR col_2={$id} ORDER BY column(?) LIMIT 3 i do not want to do 2 separate queries ( ie query 2 if count(query1) <3 )

• qmake library reordering

  I put this into a qmake file: QTPLUGIN += component LIBS += -L../lib -lmodule -lcomponent -lnetworking But qmake reorders the libraries behind my back: g++ -m64 -Wl,-O1,--sort-common,--as-needed,-z,relro -o testb .obj/constants.o .obj/main.o .obj/qrc_application.o -L/usr/lib -L../lib -lmodule -lnetworking -lcomponent -lQtGui -lQtNetwork -lQtCore -lpthread Probably because component is a static plugin. But it has a static dependency on the networking library and hence the reordering causes a link error. It is a static dependency and hence is ok in my opinion. How to work around this? I'm using qt 4.8.1.

  Apple has rejected one of our apps, where the user can purchase content through subscriptions (InApp product type is subscription). The problem is that we need to, also because of Apple requiring it, these subscriptions to be transferable between devices. The logical and also the most secure solution would be to link it to a user account, that the user will have to create. But this was the reason why apple rejected this app. They have told us that for purchasing of subscriptions a registration can not be required, can be only optional. So the question is how to solve this if there is no other nice solution that would make sense, be secure and still comfortable for the user?

  I implement a link list in two files in linklist.h and linklist.c, and I call some functions defined in linklist.h in main function of main.c. linklist.h is included in both linklist.c and main.c. When I compile this program by GCC with Makefile, the error named "undefined reference to xxx" occurs. I think my Makefile is written correctly as below. • How to get the class of an input inside a jQuery each loop?

  Hi, I have function which appends inputs inside a list item when a link is clicked. I then loop through these inputs using an each loop using the code below. It is working correctly as shown, however instead of using field.name I want to use the class of the input as the array key but when i try to do this the class is shown as undefined. Here is the code I am currently using: var values = {}; $.each($('li :input').serializeArray(), function(i, field) { values[field.name] = field.value; }); Here is the code I have inside the list item once I have appended the hidden inputs using jQuery append: <li><input type="hidden" name="group" class="group" value="2"/><input type="hidden" name="condition" class="condition" value="isany"/><input type="hidden" name="value" class="value" value="1,2"/></li> I can get the name attribute fine but class is always undefined. Could anybody help with this?

  Does anyone know any sane reason for such bundling decision? Google engineers act wisely in most cases, so this kinda surprized me. This would cause collisions with other versions of servlet API pulled via Maven dependencies: webapp classpath will likely contain version which is bundled with GWT; container may refuse to load the GWT jar as it contains the javax.servlet package; in most cases this will likely deviate classpaths across your IDE's debugger and the really executing VM.   I was about to redo a Rails site today using AJAX so that the background could remain in place. Then I thought, "that would be exactly like using frames," and then I thought about SEO consequences and I dropped the idea entirely and took a look around the Web. It turns out that few sites -- except for Google itself, which has the link bar at the top -- are doing this. It doesn't look impossible to do, but it's not exactly easy. Aside from Ajaxing, you have to think about updating the query-string and having SEO-friendly links (that actually don't work, but rather make background requests via Javascript). Will any of the new technologies -- HTML5, perhaps -- solve this problem and allow us to have a Web with background colors (and other static elements) that do not disappear momentarily between page refreshes? On the other hand, why are few devs doing this with current technologies? Is it just not a big deal, too complicated to implement, or....?

  Hi, I have had my new rails program up for a few days now. I'm running it on Ubuntu 10.4 with apache2 in another location than the website it's made for (it's a standalone database application for physiotherapists). The people I made it for now want me to deploy it to the public part of their website, only with one change. Those who open it via the link in the public-part should not be able to click one button! I was thinking of doing something like this in my view: <% if session[:inside]%> <%=button_to 'Sækja mælitæki', @link_to_mt%> <%end%> How could I set session[:inside] only to true if the program was started from within the private part of the webpage? I thought of creating two new actions, the other would set session[:inside] to true and the other to false, but that seems to me like a security risk, is it not? BR, Sindri

  Hi, I have this RichTextBox and I have embedded some http links in it. I have set DetectUrls = true, and it displays the links correctly and handles in the event. In the same RichTextBox, I have one more string displayed which looks like this Type http://< Your host name Now, since DetectUrls= true, the portion "http://<" is displayed as a link, while I want this to be text. If I set the DetectUrls=false just before displaying this string, none of the other links are displayed as links. Is there a way to partially set DetectUrls for some strings and not for others? • GNU General Public License (v2): can a company use the licensed software for free?

  When a library is released under the GPL v2, can a company use it internally for free? If they develop software based on it, do they have to release it under the GPL, even if they don't distribute it? Can they make money by using (not distributing) internally developed software that links to the GPL'ed library, without any compensation for the author? I am looking for a software license that only allows non-commercial uses (copy, modify, link to); the resulting derived programs must also be free for non-commercial uses. Is there any software license that does this for non-commercial uses, and prevents any commercial use (including using the software in order to make money)? It looks like the Creative Commons licenses are flexible enough to do something close to that, but I've read against using them for software. What do you think?

• Is RIA Services right for our Silverlight app at this point?

  Hi, I'm looking at Silverlight architectures and RIA Services looks interesting, but I am a bit concerned about its prelease status and how the feature set will change. We need our client app to be as responsive as possible over a slow network link, so a high priority is a solid sync system for pushing model state changes from the client back to the server. Will RIA Services help us in this regard or will I have to roll my own logic to do this ? Are there any other frameworks that can assist with this? Is the feature set involved in these requirements liable to change much in the next couple of months? If it makes any difference, our frontend is 100% Silverlight, so we dont need to worry about exposing SOAP APIs from the server or anything like that. It appears to me that RIA so far is a bit more mature for Silverlight use. Is this correct?
