  • Why is my code slower using #import "progid:typelib" than using "MFC Class From TypeLib"?

    - by Pakman
I am writing an automation client in Visual C++ with MFC. If I right-click on my solution » Add » Class, I have the option to select MFC Class From TypeLib. Selecting this option generates source/header files for all interfaces. This allows me to write code such as: #include "CApplication.h" #include "CDocument.h" // ... connect to automation server ... CApplication *myApp = new CApplication(pDisp); CDocument myDoc = myApp->get_ActiveDocument(); Using this method, my benchmarking function that makes about 12000 automation calls takes 1 second. Meanwhile, the following code: #import "progid:Library.Application" Library::IApplicationPtr myApp; // ... connect to automation server ... Library::IDocumentPtr myDoc = myApp->GetActiveDocument(); takes about 2.4 seconds for the same benchmark. I assume the smart-pointer implementation is slowing me down, but I don't know why. Even worse, I'm not sure how to use #import construct to achieve the speeds that the first method yields. Is this possible? How or why not? Thanks for your time!

  • how to implement a sparse_vector class

    - by Neil G
I am implementing a templated sparse_vector class. It's like a vector, but it only stores elements that are different from their default constructed value. So, sparse_vector would store the index-value pairs for all indices whose value is not T(). I am basing my implementation on existing sparse vectors in numeric libraries-- though mine will handle non-numeric types T as well. I looked at boost::numeric::ublas::coordinate_vector and eigen::SparseVector. Both store: size_t* indices_; // a dynamic array T* values_; // a dynamic array int size_; int capacity_; Why don't they simply use vector<pair<size_t, T>> data_; My main question is what are the pros and cons of both systems, and which is ultimately better? The vector of pairs manages size_ and capacity_ for you, and simplifies the accompanying iterator classes; it also has one memory block instead of two, so it incurs half the reallocations, and might have better locality of reference. The other solution might search more quickly since the cache lines fill up with only index data during a search. There might also be some alignment advantages if T is an 8-byte type? It seems to me that vector of pairs is the better solution, yet both containers chose the other solution. Why?

  • Getting around IBActions limited scope

    - by Septih
Hello, I have an NSCollectionView and the view is an NSBox with a label and an NSButton. I want a double click or a click of the NSButton to tell the controller to perform an action with the represented object of the NSCollectionViewItem. The Item View is has been subclassed, the code is as follows: #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> #import "WizardItem.h" @interface WizardItemView : NSBox { id delegate; IBOutlet NSCollectionViewItem * viewItem; WizardItem * wizardItem; } @property(readwrite,retain) WizardItem * wizardItem; @property(readwrite,retain) id delegate; -(IBAction)start:(id)sender; @end #import "WizardItemView.h" @implementation WizardItemView @synthesize wizardItem, delegate; -(void)awakeFromNib { [self bind:@"wizardItem" toObject:viewItem withKeyPath:@"representedObject" options:nil]; } -(void)mouseDown:(NSEvent *)event { [super mouseDown:event]; if([event clickCount] > 1) { [delegate performAction:[wizardItem action]]; } } -(IBAction)start:(id)sender { [delegate performAction:[wizardItem action]]; } @end The problem I've run into is that as an IBAction, the only things in the scope of -start are the things that have been bound in IB, so delegate and viewItem. This means that I cannot get at the represented object to send it to the delegate. Is there a way around this limited scope or a better way or getting hold of the represented object? Thanks.

  • What is the cleanest way to use anonymous functions?

    - by Fletcher Moore
I've started to use Javascript a lot more, and as a result I am writing things complex enough that organization is becoming a concern. However, this question applies to any language that allows you to nest functions. Essentially, when should you use an anonymous function over a named global or inner function? At first I thought it was the coolest feature ever, but I think I am going overboard. Here's an example I wrote recently, ommiting all the variable delcarations and conditionals so that you can see the structure. function printStream() { return fold(function (elem, acc) { ... var comments = (function () { return fold(function (comment, out) { ... return out + ...; }, '', elem.comments); return acc + ... + comments; }, '', data.stream); } I realized though (I think) there's some kind of beauty in being so compact, it is probably isn't a good idea to do this in the same way you wouldn't want a ton of code in a double for loop.

  • Can i use microsoft ajax tab controls SKIN only ?

    - by Anil Namde
I like YUI's Tab, to use its look and feel for own tab like implementation we just have to include yui tabs CSS and use markups and css classes and done. example below, <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://yui.yahooapis.com/2.8.0r4/build/tabview/assets/skins/sam/tabview.css" /> <ul class="yui-nav"> <li><a href="#tab1"><em>Tab One Label</em></a></li> <li class="selected"><a href="#tab2"><em>Tab Two Label</em></a></li> <li><a href="#tab3"><em>Tab Three Label</em></a></li> </ul> Now i have a site where Microsort's tab tab controls are used and there are some which are old simple tabs. Now i would like to change these old tabs to Microsoft tab structures just by using CSS if possible as we have done above for YUI. Is that possible to do that using CSS/file? How it can be done for Microsofts tab?

  • Apache module, is it possible to have asynchronous processing

    - by prashant2361
Hi, I have a requirement where I need to send continous updates to my clients. Client is browser in this case. We have some data which updates every sec, so once client connects to our server, we maintain a persistent connection and keep pushing data to the client. I am looking for suggestions of this implementation at the server end. Basically what I need is this: 1. client connects to server. I maintain the socket and metadata about the socket. metadata contains what updates need to be send to this client 2. server process now waits for new client connections 3. One other process will have the list of all the sockets opened and will go through each of them and send the updates if required. Can we do something like this in apache module: 1. apache process gets the new connection. It maintains the state for the connection. It keeps the state in some global memory and returns back to root process to signify that it is done so that it can accept the new connection 2. the apache process though has returned the status to root process but it is also executing parallely where it going through its global store and sending updates to the client, if any. So can a apache process do these things: 1. Have more than one connection associated with it 2. Asynchronously waiting for new connection and at the same time processing the previous connections? Regards Prashant

  • What is the best prctice for using security in JAX-WS

    - by kislo_metal
Here is scenario : I have some web services (JAX-WS) that need to be secured. Currently for authentication needs I providing addition SecurityWService that give authorized user some userid & sessionid that is need to be described in request to other services. It would be more better to use some java security. We have many of them but could not defined what is better to use. Q1 : It is understand that I should use SSL in transport layer, but what should I use for user authorization. Is there is better way to establishing session, validating user etc. ? Here is some key description : Most web services clents is php based. I am using jax-ws implementation as a Stateless session EJB. Deploying to glassfish v3. Q2: what is the best framework / technology for user authorization / authentication in case of using JSF 2.0 and ejb3.1 technologies ( Realms? WSIT? )? Thank You!

  • Service reference error when moving dev. environment from XP to W7

    - by Peter
Hi, I am building an application and I am using web services for getting data from a server. It was working fine when I was developing on my XP machine but had to switch to Windows 7. On the new machine I grabbed the latest version of the code using sourcesafe. However, when I try to add a service reference in the solution or update an existing one I get the following error: There was an error downloading 'http://localhost:52490/Service/CustomerService.asmx'. The request failed with the error message: Server Error in '/' Application. Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Could not create type 'Digital_Server.CustomerService'. Source Error <%@ WebService Language="vb" CodeBehind="CustomerService.asmx.vb" Class="Digital_Server.CustomerService" % Source File: /Service/CustomerService.asmxLine: 1 Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.4927; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.4927 --. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://localhost:52490/Service/CustomerService.asmx'. An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://localhost:52490/Service/CustomerService.asmx. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details. The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again. Does it has anything to do with the IIS or is it any configuration file I have to change in the solution? Any help is appreciated.

  • Is there a way to implement Caliburn-like co-routines in VB.NET since there's no yield keyword

    - by Miroslav Popovic
Note that I'm aware of other yield in vb.net questions here on SO. I'm playing around with Caliburn lately. Bunch of great stuff there, including co-routines implementation. Most of the work I'm doing is C# based, but now I'm also creating an architecture guideline for a VB.NET only shop, based on Rob's small MVVM framework. Everything looks very well except using co-routines from VB. Since VB 10 is used, we can try something like Bill McCarthy's suggestion: Public Function Lines(ByVal rdr as TextReader) As IEnumerable(Of String) Return New GenericIterator(Of String) (Function(ByRef nextItem As String) As Boolean nextItem = rdr.ReadLine Return nextItem IsNot Nothing End Function) End Function I'm just failing to comprehend how a little more complex co-routine method like the one below (taken from Rob's GameLibrary) could be written in VB: public IEnumerable<IResult> ExecuteSearch() { var search = new SearchGames { SearchText = SearchText }.AsResult(); yield return Show.Busy(); yield return search; var resultCount = search.Response.Count(); if (resultCount == 0) SearchResults = _noResults.WithTitle(SearchText); else if (resultCount == 1 && search.Response.First().Title == SearchText) { var getGame = new GetGame { Id = search.Response.First().Id }.AsResult(); yield return getGame; yield return Show.Screen<ExploreGameViewModel>() .Configured(x => x.WithGame(getGame.Response)); } else SearchResults = _results.With(search.Response); yield return Show.NotBusy(); } Any idea how to achieve that, or any thoughts on using Caliburn co-routines in VB?

  • IBOutlet instances are (null) after loading from NIB

    - by Zach
I am working on an iPhone app and am getting (null) references to IBOutlet fields in my controller. I have a UIViewController subclass that is set as the File's Owner in my XIB. I have a set of UI elements that are wired into the controller. After loading from NIB and attempting to set properties on those UI elements, I find that they are (null). To clarify, some code: ExpandSearchPageController.h: @interface ExpandSearchPageController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UITextView * completeMessageView; } -(void)checkTextField; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextView * completeMessageView; ExpandSearchPageController.m: @implementation ExpandSearchPageController @synthesize completeMessageView; -(void)checkTextField { NSLog(@"text field: %@",completeMessageView); } ExpandSearchPageController is set as the File's Owner for ExpandSearchPage.xib. ExpandSearchPage.xib's UITextView is wired to the completeMessageView. When I call ExpandSearchPageController * searchExpanderPage = [[ExpandSearchPageController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ExpandSearchPage" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [searchExpanderPage checkTextField]; the result is "text field: (null)" Sorry if this is a total newb question, but I guess I'm still a newb at iPhone programming! Thanks in advance!

  • C++ find largest BST in a binary tree

    - by fonjibe
what is your approach to have the largest BST in a binary tree? I refer to this post where a very good implementation for finding if a tree is BST or not is bool isBinarySearchTree(BinaryTree * n, int min=std::numeric_limits<int>::min(), int max=std::numeric_limits<int>::max()) { return !n || (min < n->value && n->value < max && isBinarySearchTree(n->l, min, n->value) && isBinarySearchTree(n->r, n->value, max)); } It is quite easy to implement a solution to find whether a tree contains a binary search tree. i think that the following method makes it: bool includeSomeBST(BinaryTree* n) { if(!isBinarySearchTree(n)) { if(!isBinarySearchTree(n->left)) return isBinarySearchTree(n->right); } else return true; else return true; } but what if i want the largest BST? this is my first idea, BinaryTree largestBST(BinaryTree* n) { if(isBinarySearchTree(n)) return n; if(!isBinarySearchTree(n->left)) { if(!isBinarySearchTree(n->right)) if(includeSomeBST(n->right)) return largestBST(n->right); else if(includeSomeBST(n->left)) return largestBST(n->left); else return NULL; else return n->right; } else return n->left; } but its not telling the largest actually. i struggle to make the comparison. how should it take place? thanks

  • UIImageView subclass with CGRectIntersectsRect - help!

    - by Flafla2
The title of this question should be pretty self explanatory. I am making an app that involves multiple UIImageViews that serve the same purpose. They are merely different sizes. Anyway, I decided that the best solution was to make UIImageView subclasses, link the subcalsses in IB, and work from there. My code should explain this better - #define kPausedStatePaused 1 #define kPausedStatePlay 2 #import "Game.h" #import "ScoreSystem.h" @interface Doctor : UIImageView { } @end @interface Ground : UIImageView { } @end @interface Wall : UIImageView { } @end @interface Electric_Wire : UIImageView { } @end @implementation Game /* // The designated initializer. Override if you create the controller programmatically and want to perform customization that is not appropriate for viewDidLoad. - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { if (self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]) { // Custom initialization } return self; } */ /* // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; } */ - (IBAction)pause { UIAlertView *pause = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Pause" message:nil delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Quit" otherButtonTitles:@"Play", nil]; [pause show]; [pause release]; pauseint = kPausedStatePaused; } - (void)viewDidAppear { pauseint = kPausedStatePlay; } - (void)loop { Doctor *doctorview; Ground *groundview; if (CGRectIntersectsRect(doctorview, groundview)) { } } - (void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex { if ([alertView.title isEqual:@"Pause"]) { if(buttonIndex == 0) [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; pauseint = kPausedStatePlay; } } // Override to allow orientations other than the default portrait orientation. - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { // Return YES for supported orientations return (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight); } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidUnload { // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; } @end Unsurprisingly, Xcode gave me an "incompatible type for CGRectIntersectsRect" error.

  • How to embed XBase expressions in an Xtext DSL

    - by Marcus Mathioudakis
I am writing a simple little DSL for specifying constraints on messages, and Have been trying without success for a while to embed XBase expressions into the language. The Grammar looks like this: grammar org.xtext.businessrules.BusinessRules with org.eclipse.xtext.xbase.Xbase //import "http://www.eclipse.org/xtext/xbase/Xbase" as xbase import "http://www.eclipse.org/xtext/common/JavaVMTypes" as jvmTypes generate businessRules "http://www.xtext.org/businessrules/BusinessRules" Start: rules+=Constraint*; Constraint: {Constraint} 'FOR' 'PAYLOAD' payload=PAYLOAD 'ELEMENT' element=ID 'CONSTRAINED BY' constraint=XExpression; PAYLOAD: "SimulationSessionEvents" |"stacons" |"any" ; Range: 'above' min=INT ('below' max=INT)? |'below' max=INT ('above' min=INT)? ; When trying to parse a file such as: FOR PAYLOAD SimulationSessionEvents ELEMENT matrix CONSTRAINED BY ... I can't get it to work for ... = any kind of Arithmetic expression, although it works for ...= loop or if expression, or even just a number. As soon as I do something like '-5' or '4-5' it says Couldn't resolve reference to JvmIdentifiableElement '-', even though the Xbase.xtext Grammar looks like it allows these expressions. I don't think I'm missing any Jars, as it doesn't complain when I run the mwe workflow, but only when trying to parse the input file. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Nested Class member function can't access function of enclosing class. Why?

    - by Rahul
Please see the example code below: class A { private: class B { public: foobar(); }; public: foo(); bar(); }; Within class A & B implementation: A::foo() { //do something } A::bar() { //some code foo(); //more code } A::B::foobar() { //some code foo(); //<<compiler doesn't like this } The compiler flags the call to foo() within the method foobar(). Earlier, I had foo() as private member function of class A but changed to public assuming that B's function can't see it. Of course, it didn't help. I am trying to re-use the functionality provided by A's method. Why doesn't the compiler allow this function call? As I see it, they are part of same enclosing class (A). I thought the accessibility issue for nested class meebers for enclosing class in C++ standards was resolved. How can I achieve what I am trying to do without re-writing the same method (foo()) for B, which keeping B nested within A? I am using VC++ compiler ver-9 (Visual Studio 2008). Thank you for your help.

  • Getting jQuery datepicker to attach to a TextBox within a ListView

  • c++ - strange problem with polymorphism - cellular automaton

    - by Green
Hello, I am making "game of life" implementation that, when cell has: two live neighbours I make object of class CCellB two live neighbours I make object of class CCellA when has 3 or <2 I make object of class CCellX (dead) Class CCell is base of CCellA, CCellB, CCellX My problem is: That works fine, until I change new CCell(); to new CCellB();: CCell ***temp = allocateArray(); for(int i = 0; i < n; i++) { for(int j = 0; j < m; j++) { c = arr[i][j]->countAliveNeighbor(); if(c == 3) { temp[i][j] = new CCellA(); temp[i][j]->alive = 1; }else if(c == 2) { temp[i][j] = new CCell(); // HERE, WHEN I CHANGE IT TO CCELLB IT DON'T WORKS temp[i][j]->alive = tab[i][j]->alive; }else if((c >= 4)||(c < 2)) { temp[i][j] = new CCellX(); } } } Then it seems don't work properly... Seems like neighbours are not count properly, Cell with 4,5 neighbours still alive alive var is member of base class - CCell, all is public, please help!

  • jQuery e.target bubbling best practice ?

    - by olouv
In my heavy-ajax code, i always bind "click" the body tag & act depending on $(e.target) & using $.fn.hasClass(). However when i click on an anchor that has a </span> tag inside, my $(e.target) equals this node, and not the parent anchor as i would like it to. From now on, i have used this trick (var $t = $(e.target);) : /** bubbling **/ if($t.get(0).tagName !== "A" && $t.get(0).tagName !== "AREA") { $t = $t.parent("a"); if(empty($t)) return true; //else console.log("$t.bubble()", $t); } It feels wrong somehow... Do you have any better implementation ? $.fn.live() does not solve my issue as it still returns the span as the target. Moreover i'm looking for speed (running on atom-based touch devices) & live appeared to be way slower (twice) : http://jsperf.com/bind-vs-click/3 In fact, as @Guffa pointed, using $.fn.live() solves the span bubbling issue as i don't need the event.target anymore. I guess there is no other "right" answer here (using bind).

  • DLL Exports: not all my functions are exported

    - by carmellose
I'm trying to create a Windows DLL which exports a number of functions, howver all my functions are exported but one !! I can't figure it out. The macro I use is this simple one : __declspec(dllexport) void myfunction(); It works for all my functions except one. I've looked inside Dependency Walker and here they all are, except one. How can that be ? What would be the cause for that ? I'm stuck. Edit: to be more precise, here is the function in the .h : namespace my { namespace great { namespace namespaaace { __declspec(dllexport) void prob_dump(const char *filename, const double p[], int nx, const double Q[], const double xlow[], const char ixlow[], const double xupp[], const char ixupp[], const double A[], int my, const double bA[], const double C[], int mz, const double clow[], const char iclow[], const double cupp[], const char icupp[] ); }}} And in the .cpp file it goes like this: namespace my { namespace great { namespace namespaaace { namespace { void dump_mtx(std::ostream& ostr, const double *mtx, int rows, int cols, const char *ind = 0) { /* some random code there, nothing special, no statics whatsoever */ } } // end anonymous namespace here // dump the problem specification into a file void prob_dump( const char *filename, const double p[], int nx, const double Q[], const double xlow[], const char ixlow[], const double xupp[], const char ixupp[], const double A[], int my, const double bA[], const double C[], int mz, const double clow[], const char iclow[], const double cupp[], const char icupp[] ) { std::ofstream fout; fout.open(filename, std::ios::trunc); /* implementation there */ dump_mtx(fout, Q, nx, nx); } }}} Thanks

  • Relative Paths in .htaccess, how to attach to a variable?

    - by devians
I have a very heavy htaccess mod_rewrite file that runs my application. As we sometimes take over legacy websites, I sometimes need to support old urls to old files, where my application processes everything post htaccess. My ultimate goal is to have a 'Demilitarized Zone' for old file structures, and use mod rewrite to check for existence there before pushing to the application. This is pretty easy to do with files, by using: RewriteCond %{IS_SUBREQ} true RewriteRule .* - [L] RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} 200 RewriteRule .* - [L] RewriteCond Public/DMZ/$1 -F [OR] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ Public/DMZ/$1 [QSA,L] This allows pseudo support for relative urls by not hardcoding my base path (I cant assume I will ever be deployed in document root) anywhere and using subrequests to check for file existence. Works fine if you know the file name, ie http://domain.com/path/to/app/legacyfolder/index.html However, my legacy urls are typically http://domain.com/path/to/app/legacyfolder/ Mod_Rewrite will allow me to check for this by using -d, but it needs the complete path to the directory, ie RewriteCond Public/DMZ/$1 -F [OR] RewriteCond /var/www/path/to/app/Public/DMZ/$1 -d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ Public/DMZ/$1 [QSA,L] I want to avoid the hardcoded base path. I can see one possible solutions here, somehow determining my path and attaching it to a variable [E=name:var] and using it in the condition. Any implementation that allows me to existence check a directory is more than welcome.

  • Collision detections and how efficient they are

    - by Shadow
How exactly do you implement collision detection? What are the costs involved? Do different platforms(c/c++, java, cocoa/iphone, flash, directX) have different optimizations for calculating collisions. And lastly are there libraries available to do this for me, or some that I can just interpret for my platform of choice? As I understand it you would need to loop through the collision map and find the area in question and then compair the input thing(e.g. a sprite) to the type of pixel that is in the questioned area. I understand the very basic idea, but I don't understand the underlying implementation or even a higher level one for that matter. It would seem that this type of detection, or any for that matter, is very costly. Tile map? Bit array? How are these created from an image(I would guess looping and doing stuff)? The reason I ask this question is to get a better understanding of the efficiency behind the scenes and to understand exactly what is going on. Links, references, or examples would be very helpful. I know this question is a bit longwinded so any help or references would be very welcome. Thanks SO!

    - by Bugget
This one has me stumped. Here are the relative bits of code: public AgencyDetails(Guid AgencyId) { try { evgStoredProcedure Procedure = new evgStoredProcedure(); Hashtable commandParameters = new Hashtable(); commandParameters.Add("@AgencyId", AgencyId); SqlDataReader AppReader = Procedure.ExecuteReaderProcedure("evg_getAgencyDetails", commandParameters); commandParameters.Clear(); //The following line is where the error is thrown. Errormessage: Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed. while (AppReader.Read()) { AgencyName = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyName").ToString(); AgencyAddress = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyAddress").ToString(); AgencyCity = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyCity").ToString(); AgencyState = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyState").ToString(); AgencyZip = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyZip").ToString(); AgencyPhone = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyPhone").ToString(); AgencyFax = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyFax").ToString(); } AppReader.Close(); AppReader.Dispose(); } catch (Exception ex) { throw new Exception("AgencyDetails Constructor: " + ex.Message.ToString()); } } And the implementation of ExecuteReaderProcedure: public SqlDataReader ExecuteReaderProcedure(string ProcedureName, Hashtable Parameters) { SqlDataReader returnReader; using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString)) { try { SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(ProcedureName, conn); SqlParameter param = new SqlParameter(); cmd.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure; foreach (DictionaryEntry keyValue in Parameters) { cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(keyValue.Key.ToString(), keyValue.Value); } conn.Open(); returnReader = cmd.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection); } catch (SqlException e) { throw new Exception(e.Message.ToString()); } } return returnReader; } The connection string is working as other stored procedures in the same class run fine. The only problem seems to be when returning SqlDataReaders from this method! They throw the error message in the title. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  • Which to use, XMP or RDF?

    - by zotty
What's the difference between RDF and XMP? From what I can tell, XMP is derived from RDF... so what does it offer that RDF doesn't? My particular situation is this: I've got some images which need tagging with details of how an experiment was performed, and what sort of data analysis has been performed on the images. A colleague of mine is pushing for XMP, but he's thinking of the images as photos - they're not really, they're just bits of data. From what I've seen (mainly by opening images in notepad++) the XMP data looks very similar to RDF - even so far as using RDF in the tag names (e.g. <rdf:Seq>). I'd like this data to be usable by other people who use similar instruments for similar experiments, so creating a mini standard (schema?) seems like the way to go. Apologies for the lack of fundemental understanding - I'm a Doctor, not a programmer! If it makes any difference, the language of choice will be C#. Edit for more information: First off, thanks for the excellent replies - thinking of XMP as a vocabulary for RDF makes things a lot clearer. The sort of data I'll be storing wont be avaliable in any of the pre-defined sets. It'll detail experimental set ups, locations and results. I think using RDF is the way to go.

  • substitution cypher with different alphabet length

    - by seanizer
I would like to implement a simple substitution cypher to mask private ids in URLs I know how my IDs will look like (combination of upperchase ascii, digits and underscore), and they will be rather long, as they are composed keys. I would like to use a longer alphabet to shorten the resulting codes (I'd like to use upper and lower case ascii letters, digits and nothing else). So my incoming alphabet would be [A-Z0-9_] (37 chars) and my outgoing alphabet would be [A-Za-z0-9] (62 chars) so a compression of almost 50% would be available. let's say my URLs look like this: /my/page/GFZHFFFZFZTFZTF_24_F34 and I want them to look like this instead: /my/page/Ft32zfegZFV5 Obviously both arrays would be shuffled to bring some random order in. This does not have to be secure. if someone figures it out: fine, but I don't want the scheme to be obvious. My desired solution would be to convert the string to an integer representation of radix 37, convert the radix to 62 and use the second alphabet to write out that number. is there any sample code available that does something similar? Integer.parseInt ( http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/Integer.html#parseInt%28java.lang.String,%20int%29 ) has some similar logic, but it is hard-coded to use standard digit behavior Any hints? I am using java to implement this but code or pseudo-code in any other language is of course also helpful
