• sshfs mounted directory becomes unresponsive

  I've mounted a directory via sshfs: sshfs <user>@<host>:/var/www <host>/ However, after a few hours, the "something" happens, and I can no longer use the mounted directory. Symptoms are similar to when an nfsmounted server becomes unavailable: ls fails, cd fails, etc. I've attempted sshfs -o reconnect <user>@<host>:/var/www <host>/ but that never responded. Does anyone know how I can either unmount the directory, and remount it, or force sshfs to reconnect to the server?

• Apache2 Virtual Host with ScriptAlias returning 403

  I am trying to reference my libs directory which is a sibling directory to my DocumentRoot. I am using the following ScriptAlias to try to accomplish this. • Apache2 cgi's crash on odbc db access (but run fine from shell)

  Problem overview (details below): I'm having an apache2 + ruby integration problem when trying to connect to an ODBC data source. The main problem boils down to the fact that scripts that run fine from an interactive shell crash ruby on the database connect line when run as a cgi from apache2. Ruby cgi's that don't try to access the ODBC datasource work fine. And (again) ruby scripts that connect to a database with ODBC do fine when executed from the command line (or cron). This behavior is identical when I use perl instead of ruby. So, the issue seems to be with the environment provided for ruby (perl) by apache2, but I can't figure out what is wrong or what to do about it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get these cgi scripts to work properly? I've tried many different things to get this to work, and I'm happy to provide more detail of any aspect if that will help. • Apache Reverse Proxy not working inside a VirtualHost running a Mono Web Application

  I have a mono web application running with this virtual host below. It is running on Apache 2.2.20 / Ubuntu 11.10. I tried to add a reverse proxy inside this virtualhost so I can make asynchronous or AJAX type calls back to this same domain. My asynchronous requests would have problems in many browsers calling services that are on another domain (cross domain requests problem). I am wanting to do reverse proxy calls to this other service using http://www.whatever.com/monkey/. So, I added the directive and top directive to try to make this work. It is weird though...nothing I do seems to have any effect. I can put the exact same markup in my default website virtualhost file and it works great. What is the deal? • Getting AWStats to work in Ubuntu 12.04

  I'm new to apache and i'm trying to set up AWStats on my ubuntu 12.04 server. I've followed the guide at Ubuntu docs https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AWStats I set it up according to the instructions and awstats is able to generate initial stats from apache log successfully. I placed the links to awstats in the default virtual host file. However when I try to run http://server-ip-address:8080/awstats/awstats.pl, I get: Error: SiteDomain parameter not defined in your config/domain file. You must edit it for using this version of AWStats. Setup ('/etc/awstats/awstats.conf' file, web server or permissions) may be wrong. Check config file, permissions and AWStats documentation (in 'docs' directory). • "domain crashed" when creating new Xen instance

  I have downloaded a Xen virtual machine image from the appscale project, and I am trying to start it up. I use Windows 7 (server 2) and Windows XP (server 1) UPDATE: I needed to remove DocumentRoot "g:/wamp/www" line :D it was there by mistake! things are working fine now. But one thing: the URL gets replaced by the local ip address any way to not make that happen?

• Apache2: not defined domains directing to the same virtual host

  I have Apache2 configured in a debian box with virtual hosts. I have several domains pointing to the box's IP address. The domains whose virtual hosts are configured works perfectly. But if I type in the browser a domain that is pointing to the box but whose the virtual host is not configured, I get to a random virtual host of another domain in the box. Not a random, but one of the virtual hosts (always the same) but I dunno why it is it. The correct would be that the domains that are not configured as virtual hosts return a hostname error or something, right? Does someone know how to fix the problem?   I am having trouble with a custom 404 error page. I have a domain running a .NET proj with it's own error handling. I have a web.config running for the domain which contains: <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly"> <error statusCode="500" redirect="/Error"/> <error statusCode="404" redirect="/404"/> </customErrors> On a sub dir of that domain I am ignoring all routes there by doing routes.IgnoreRoute("Assets/{*pathInfo}"); in the .NET proj and I want to put a custom 404 error page on that and any sub dir's of Assets. The sub dir contains static content like images, css, js etc etc. So in the Error Pages section of IIS I put a redirect to an absolute URL. The web.config for that dir looks like the following: <system.webServer> <httpErrors> <remove statusCode="404" subStatusCode="-1" /> <error statusCode="404" prefixLanguageFilePath="" path="http://mydomain.com/404" responseMode="Redirect" /> </httpErrors> </system.webServer> But I navigate to an unknown URL under that dir and yet I still see the default IIS 404 page. I am also seeing an alert in IIS that reads: You have configured detailed error messages to be returned for both local and remote requests. When this option is selected, custom error configuration is not used. Does this have anything to do with the customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" in the site web.config? I have tried to overwrite the customErrors in the sub dir web.config but nothing changes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Why are people trying to connect to me network on TCP port 445?

  I was playing with my new syslog server and had my m0n0wall firewall logs forwarded as a test, I noticed a bunch of recent firewall log entries that say that it blocked other WAN IPs from my ISP (I checked) from connecting to me on TCP port 445. Why would a random computer be trying to connect to me on a port apperently used for Windows SMB shares? Just internet garbage? A port scan? • How to publish an ASP.NET MVC application to a free host

  Hi, I'm using a free web host (0000free) which supports ASP.NET MVC, but it uses Mono. This is the first time I deploy an MVC application, so I'm a little confused as to where I need to deploy it. I have Visual Studio 2010 and I used its Publish Feature (i.e. right click on the project name and click publish) and I tried several things: Publish method: FTP to the root folder. Publish method: FTP to the publich_html folder. Publish method: File System to the root folder. Publish method: File System to the publich_html folder. Publish method: File System to a local directory on my computer and then FTP to root and also tried the public_html folder. I went into the cPanel (control panel) to try and see if ASP.NET has to be added/enabled for my web site, but I didn't see anything there. I can't browse to Index.aspx nor can I redirect to it from index.html (as suggested from other posts on the host forum), right now I have a link from index.html to Index.aspx but it's not working either (see http://www.mydevarmy.com) I've also tried renaming Index.aspx to Default.aspx, but that doesn't work either. • How to stop a ICMP attack?

  We are under a heavy icmp flood attack. Tcpdump shows the result below. Altough we have blocked ICMP with iptables tcpdump still prints icmp packets. I've also attached iptables configuration and "top" result. Is there any thing I can do to completely stop icmp packets?   I am having a problem with an OSQA site. It is Django/Apache/mod_wsgi configured site. Every hour, the CPU spikes to 164% (Average) for task HTTPD. After 10 minutes, it frees back up. I have reviewed the logs, cron tables, made many config changes, but cannot track this problem down. Can someone please look at the information below and let me know if it is a configuration problem, or if anyone else has experienced this issue. Running TOP shows HTTPD using 165% of CPU VMware performance monitor also displays spikes. This happens every hour for 10 minutes. • Flash alternative for iBook Mac?

  I have a old Apple iBook G4 that I decided to hook up to my main TV. I like the setup because I can surf the internet on my TV now. The only thing that I can't seem to do is watch Flash videos. Apparently Flash Player 10 doesn't play nice with the iBook's graphics card's GPU, leaving all the graphics processing to the CPU which is a disaster. Others suggested downgrading to Flash Player 9, I did that, and youtube worked fine, but Hulu (The main reason I wanted to hook it up to the TV in the first place) did not. Anyone know of a Flash alternative or a Flash 10 fix for the iBook? Or even a Hulu client that doesn't require Flash. • How to write re-usable puppet definitions?

  I'd like to write a puppet manifest to install and configure an application on target servers. Parts of this manifest shall be re-usable. Thus I used define for defining my re-usable functionality. Doing so, I've always the problem that there are parts of the definition which are not re-usable. A simple example is a bunch of configuration files to be created. These file must be placed in the same directory. This directory must be created only once. Example: nodes.pp node 'myNode.in.a.domain' { mymodule::addconfig {'configfile1.xml': param => 'somevalue', } mymodule::addconfig {'configfile2.xml': param => 'someothervalue', } } mymodule.pp define mymodule::addconfig ($param) { $config_dir = "/the/directory/" #ensure that directory exits: file { $config_dir: ensure => directory, } #create the configuration file: file { $name: path => "${config_dir}/${name}" content => template('a_template.erb'), require => File[$config_dir], } } This example will fail, because now the resource file {$config_dir: is defined twice. As far as I understood, it is required to extract these parts into a class. Ideally, classes like createConfigurationDirectory are hidden from the user of the modules api. Or are there some other "Best Practices"/Patterns handling such dependencies?

• Apache2 return 404 for proxy requests before reaching WSGI

  I have a Django app running under Apache2 and mod_wsgi and, unfortunately, lots of requests trying to use the server as a proxy. The server is responding OK with 404 errors but the errors are generated by the Django (WSGI) app, which causes a high CPU usage. If I turn off the app and let Apache handle the response directly (send a 404), the CPU usage drops to almost 0 (mod_proxy is not enabled). Is there a way to configure Apache to respond directly to this kind of requests with an error before the request hits the WSGI app? I have seen that maybe mod_security would be an option, but I'd like to know if I can do it without it. EDIT. I'll explain it a bit more. In the logs I have lots of connections trying to use the server as a web proxy (e.g. connections like GET http://zzz.zzz/ HTTP/1.1 where zzz.zzz is an external domain, not mine). This requests are passed on to mod_wsgi which then return a 404 (as per my Django app). If I disable the app, as mod_proxy is disabled, Apache returns the error directly. What I'd finally like to do is prevent Apache from passing the request to the WSGI for invalid domains, that is, if the request is a proxy request, directly return the error and not execute the WSGI app. EDIT2. Here is the apache2 config, using VirtualHosts files in sites-enabled (i have removed email addresses and changed IPs to xxx, change the server alias to sample.sample.xxx).
