    If you had to write a next-gen application, in which on the surface (UI) you need some "futuristic features", by considering the following aspects which is the choice you'd make? 1) eye-candy: cool UI, 3D, Effects, nice graphics, sound transitions... 2) user interaction: not only mouse and keyboard but touch, voice and more.... + user interactivity aspect, which is the technology you'd choose? 3) X-platform: this is to have some X-platform discussion. Of course single platform technologies (as WPF) have may be some more power, anyway in a general discussion considering X-platform as a resource is important 4) available components: of course the coolest technology with no available components is may be an option for a component developer but not for an application developer My question is generic, but anyway * have in mind data-driven apps, not pure multimedia apps, videogames, ....

    Is search and replace the only way to rename as asp control in the code behind file? I find this extremely annoying, but it is the only way I can find. Scenario: I'll find a variable that needs renaming (Usually to meet naming convention) I'll rename the variable in the aspx/ascx file. I'll have to go in the code behind files and search and replace. I get annoyed Are there any better ways - preferably that would not touch a similarly named variable in another scope in the project. I'm on VS2008 with resharper -- does VS2010 address this perhaps?

    I have sent a request from both iphone and android platform to nginx server nginx/0.7.67 + Phusion Passenger 2.2.15 with this code in ruby: log_format main '$remote_addr - $remote_user [$time_local] "$request" ' '$status $body_bytes_sent "$http_referer" ' '"$http_user_agent" "$http_x_forwarded_for"'; but when I check on /conf/nginx.conf file I didn't see any log appears. However when I request from computer browser, I can see the log in nginx.conf file. Any one has met this problem and please give me some suggestions? Thank you.

    I have a TreeView with check boxes, and when a user checks a child node, I want to go up the tree and check each parent. However, for some reason my application blows up whenever I touch the parent node. For the nodes in my tree, I've extended TreeNode to create my own objects with some data that I need to store in them, but I still reference them as TreeNodes when checking/unchecking.     Watching a movie is quite a different user activity. User doesn't touch neither mouse nor keyboard. Yet he 'actively' uses the computer. Thus, screensaver shouldn't run, indexing should be performed with care etc. On the other side, playing video requires either using direct write to video memory, or DirectShow, or some other API. This may be the key to the answer. What is the Dead Simple Way to determine that a video is being played?

  • Known problems with filemtime() on Windows - files getting touched arbitrarily?

    Is there a known issue leading to file modification times of cache files on Windows XP SP 3 getting arbitrarily updated, but without any actual change? Is there some service on a standard Windows XP - Backup, Sync, Versioning, Virus scanner - known to touch files? They all have a .txt extension. If there isn't, forget it. Then I'm getting something wrong in my cache routines, and I'll debug my way through. Background: I'm building a simple caching wrapper around a slow web site on a Windows server. I am comparing the filemtime() time stamp to some columns in the data base to determine whether a cached file is stale. I'm having problems using this method because the modification time of the cache files seems to get updated in between operations without me doing anything. THis results in stale files being displayed. I'm the only user on the machine. The operating system is Windows XP, the webserver a XAMPP Apache 2 with PHP 5.2

    Hi In my app i'm using a UITableViewController ("grouped style") which in one of its section I want the user to be able to see what he had selected by making this cell colored and other "uncolored". Doing it by updating all cells' background color and reloading table data, each time user touches a cell (in didSelectRowAtIndexPath:) Problem is that there is some processing made in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath: so the color doesn't get changed right a way, rather in a bit delay after touch was made. (I gusse the processing is the resone for the tiny delay) Is there a better way of doing it? Any help will be appreciated Liron P.S. I'm new to all of this...

    Coming from a .NET background I'm use to reusing string variables for storage, so is the code below likely to cause a memory leak? The code is targeting OS X on the iphone/itouch so no automatic GC. -(NSString*) stringExample { NSString *result = @"example"; result = [result stringByAppendingString:@" test"]; // where does "example" go? return result; } What confuses me is an NSStrings are immutable, but you can reuse an 'immutable' variable with no problem.

  • Session troubles when used on BT hosting

    Hello I have developed a site for a client with a pre-existing BT hosting package. Since going live there has been a problem where $_session loses it's data between pages. I have previously fixed the problem, but somehow it has become unfixed. Last time this problem happened, my research indicated that there is something funny with BT's setup when using sessions, and that article provided this code: if(ini_get('register_globals') == 1) if(is_array($_SESSION)) foreach(array_keys($_SESSION) as $var_to_kill) unset($$var_to_kill); Which even though it looks broken to me, did in fact reduce the problem to a very low level. (i.e one drop out a day). However, today my client is in touch again and surprise surprise, the problem is back. Does anyone know of a solution? (My client has already stated they will not change hosts!) Oliver

    I would like to display an intelligent 404 page with some application data. Currently, there is a 'dumb' jsp, so I just forward to the view and I am done with it. But now I guess I really need to forward to an action so that I can set some more data to display on the error.jsp. How do I do it through configuration via struts-config? I need congifuration because I do not want to touch any individual files that might be forwarding to the existing view. I tried doing the fol, but I get an error and I dont see anything in the log. So currently, <forward name="ErrorView" path="/Error404.jsp" type="org.apache.struts.action.ActionForward"> </forward> What I want: <forward name="ErrorView" path="/errorAction.do" type="org.apache.struts.action.ActionForward"> </forward>

    This may unfortunately be a very open-ended question, but a coworker of mine has shared concerns about using SoapUI Pro as our automated regression testing tool primarily on the basis that seemingly trivial WSDL changes can cause headaches for the QA crew. My coworker's particularly concerned that if we update the WSDL, even with a name change, we'll need to touch and update each existing test. As I understand it SoapUI Pro offers a refactoring tool to handle this for you. What are your experiences with SoapUI Pro and updating your web services? Am I missing something?

    I have a draggable div, that needs to be dropped on a droppable. If it is dropped correctly, the droppable calls an AJAX request. If the draggable does not have a valid id or the AJAX request fails, the draggable should be reverted to it's original position. Is that something that can be done with jQuery?!     The git command git log --format='%H' --follow -- foo.txt will give you the series of commits that touch foo.txt, following it across renames. I'm wondering if there's a git log command that will also print the corresponding historical file name beside each commit. It would be something like this, where we can interpret '%F' to be the (actually non-existent) placeholder for filename. git log --format='%H %F' --follow -- foo.txt I know this could be accomplished with git log --format='%H' --follow --numstat -- foo.txt but the output is not ideal since it requires some non-trivial parsing; each commit is strewn across multiple lines, and you'll still need to parse the file rename syntax ("bar.txt => foo.txt") to find what you're looking for.

    Hi , I have some activities in my project like, Alerts,HomePage , Calculator etc. What i want to accomplish is to create tabs for all these activities and insert images for these. When we touch the tab the corresponding activity must load. I have done it using the menu options. But i must accomplish this using tabs. The tabs must also be at the bottom of the page... Something like this... Can anyone guide through the process...??? Should i create another class Tabs.java and tabs.xml or should i write tab host for each activity...??? I have tried to find it in google and also in stackoverflowbut in vague. Plz give a solution...
