• IE browser problems occurring with Javascript Movable Type SignIn widget!

  i am using movable type 4.23 (publishing system) and have been testing my site on a PC and discovered that internet explorer (IE) browsers are unable to view my site due to a conflict in the javascript of the signin widget (initially i thought it was in the mt.js file). i receive this error: "Error 80004004"...as well as in the Javascript itself: "Element is not an object" (or object is not an element?)... function mtUpdateSignInWidget(u) { var el = document.getElementById('signin-widget-content'); if i put in "id" where 'sign-widget-content' goes, it will say its not an object. all other browsers work perfectly (firefox, safari and opera on my mac and firefox on pc). if anyone wants a link to the test page, i can provide that... someone please help! thanks.

• Correct way to get absolute url in django

  A problem that I stumbled upon recently, and, even though I solved it, I would like to hear your opinion of what correct/simple/adopted solution would be. I'm developing website using Django + python. When I run it on local machine with "python manage.py runserver", local address is http://127.0.0.1:8000/ by default. However, on production server my app has other url, with path - like "http://server.name/myproj/" I need to generate and use permanent urls. If I'm using {% url view params %}, I'm getting paths that are relative to / , since my urls.py contains this urlpatterns = patterns('', (r'^(\d+)?$', 'myproj.myapp.views.index'), (r'^img/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/img' }), (r'^css/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/css' }), ) So far, I see 2 solutions: modify urls.py, include '/myproj/' in case of production run use request.build_absolute_uri() for creating link in views.py or pass some variable with 'hostname:port/path' in templates Are there prettier ways to deal with this problem? • Flash AS3: crop TextField content off at X lines, add '...' at the end

  There's only room for three lines of text in the interface, but the content is external and variable, and if it ends up taking up more than three lines, there needs to be some sort of 'view all' button functionality. I can kind of think about what that function needs to look like, but I'm not quite sure what the best way to do it in AS3 would be. Something like (in pseudo code): function cropText(source:TextField, length:int, append:String):TextField{ if(source.lineCount > length){ source.text = // magic function that retuns the first length lines, // minus append.length characters, with the append value tacked onto the end } return source; } ... right? How would you fill in the missing bit?

  I think of a game as a state machine. Game States separate I/O processing, game logic and rendering into different classes: while (game_loop) { game->state->io_events(this); game->state->logic(this); game->state->rendering(); } You can easily change a game state in this approach. MVC separation works in more complex way: while (game_loop) { game->cotroller->io_events(this); game->model->logic(this); game->view->rendering(); } So changing Game States becomes error prone task (switch 3 MVC objects, not 1). What are practical ways of combining these 2 concepts?

• Compilation of latex file

  Hi, I am compiling a latex file on a server and download from there the generated dvi, ps and pdf files to view them. The latex file by \includegraphics includes some figure files which are not on my local machine. I found that dvi file generated by latex command does not show the figures after dowloaded to my local, but ps file generated by dvips -Ppdf have the figures, and pdf file generated by either ps2pdf or pdflatex seem not have the figures again. Is it because the figures are not actually embeded as part of the dvi and pdf files by those compilation commands? How to actually embed figures so we can only export the document files to other machines? are the case for tables in separated tex files included into main tex file by /input and the case for style files included by \usepackage similar to the above case for figure files included by \includegraphics ? • iPad UIColor Saturation Issues

  I am trying to draw a UIColor on the screen of a view-based app, and I am trying to do so using HSB. It is absolutely necessary for me to use HSB in this case. I can create a UIColor object with any S value from 0.0f to 0.75f, but past that the numerical changes have no effect on the actual saturation displayed. I need it to be 1.0f, but it is still using 0.75f. Any ideas on why it is doing that, and how I can make it work?

  Hello As you probably all know Code Igniter can assign pseudo variables using the Parser library, but you also know that if we want to assign a Pseudo Variable to use it in a View, we have to do it in every controller that loads those views with the pseudo variables. I would like to know if Code Igniter 1.7.2 has some way that i can assign a Global Pseudo variable (like the pseudo variables from the Benchmarking Class). The pseudo variables i want, would have simple data mostly returned from the $config array in the config.php file. If some could help me with that. Regards.

  Hey guys quick question. I have this code that brings in data from a php script and it works fine in fire fox and mostly opera except one problem. In opera if I keep refreshing the page, once in a while the information will not appear at all. Is this possible to fix?   hi all, in a table view i have set a UISearchBar set the delegate and add the protocol. When user tap a word everything is ok exept that the search of "tennis" and "Tennis" is not the same. If I let other required fields empty then the message is displayed. Else, if this is the only field with an error, the message doesn`t get displayed. I want it to display the message and not save the form values.

• Core Data Image Won't Load Into NSTableView Image Cell

  In my code I am storing an image into my Core Data model (works fine). If I set up my view to have an NSImageView and bind its Data to Controller Key: selection and modelKeyPath: myImagePath, it works. It will show each image for the selected row. I then create a new column in my NSTableView and drag an image cell onto the column. However, I cannot get my Core Data bindings to have the image show up in the cell. I have tried binding both value and data, but no luck. Since I am sure the image is stored properly, what am I doing wrong in my binding to prevent the image from showing up in the table cell? Thanks so much. (My background: new Cocoa developer who has recently gone through the entire Hillegass book.)

• Possible to Freeze Columns in a WPF ListView/GridView?

  I currently have a GridView inside a ListView.View. The GridView columns will far exceed the width of the screen, so there will always be horizontal scrolling. What I would like to do is to have certain columns always remain on the screen regardless of scrolling. So the first x columns from the left are frozen (ala Excel), and the rest can scroll. It does not need to be dynamic/user selected--I know in advance which columns need to be frozen. Is this possible?

  I have a web page which allows the user to carry out various operations that in turn modify the database. Also, this web application needs to keep track of various fields in database that keep changing with time. Is refreshing the page every few seconds the best possible way to implement this? For example, if there is a long list on the page requiring scrolling, it is hard to view the list since the page keeps resetting due to the refresh. I know, there are ways to retain the position of the scroll. But, could I use something more efficient?

You know, things like this: use database_foo create view spaghetti as select f.col1, c.col2 from fusilli f inner join database_bar.dbo.conchigli c on f.id = c.id (I know that cross-database views are not very good practice, but lets just say you're stuck with it) Are there any good techniques to avoid 'hard coding' the database names? (So that should you need to occasionally re-point to a different database - for testing perhaps - you don't need to edit loads of views, fns, sps) I'm interested in SQL 2005 or SQL 2008 solutions. My goal is to be able to pass the arrayStrings to the RootViewController by trying something similar to allClasses = arrayStrings. • How to properly name record creation(insertion) datetime field ?

  If I create a table with datetime default getdate() field that is intended to keep date&time of record insertion, which name is better to use for that field ? I like to use Created and I've seen people use DateCreated or CreateDate. Other possible candidates that I can think of are: CreatedDate, CreateTime, TimeCreated, CreateDateTime, DateTimeCreated, RecordCreated, Inserted, InsertedDate, ... From my point of view anything with Date inside name looks bad because it can be confused with date part in case if I have 2 fields: CreateDate,CreateTime, so I wonder if there are any specific recommendations/standards in that area based on real reasons, not just style, mood or consistency. Of course, if there are 100 existing tables and this is table 101 then I would use same naming convention as used in those 100 tables for the sake of consistency, but this question is about first table in first database in first server in first application.

  Hello all, I've been struggling with this for quite awhile and haven't been able to find a solution. I need a user to be able to view multiple top level domains with a single login. My understanding is that this needs to be set in environment.rb and called with before_dispatch. This is what I've come up with: require 'activesupport' require 'dispatcher' module ActionController class Dispatcher def set_session_domain ActionController::Base.session_options.update :session_domain => "#{@request.host}" end before_dispatch :set_session_domain end end However, this does not seem to be working when I try and pull the values from session[:session_domain].   I am well aware of this previous question here and have heard great things about those books. I actually bought two of them, Effective Java and Java in a Nutshell as an early Christmas present. I am looking for a good Java book, or books, to further continue my understanding of Java from a recent college graduate point of view. I have learned Java in college and would consider it to be the language I am most comfortable with. Can anyone recommend a good "intermediate" Java book for a situation like mine? • MGTwitterEngine - Using getImageAtURL on iPhone

  Essentially, I'm working on asynchronously downloading images and adding them to specific UITableView cells (twitter profile images using MGTwitterEngine from Matt Gemmell). I've looked at general asynchronous download code and must admit, I'm still too much of a noob to understand it well enough to adapt it to my purposes. Instead, I'm attempting to use Gemmell's included getImageAtUrl method to add the images. I have it working to the point that -imageReceived: receives the images for visible cells, however, I'm stuck as to how to include them into the appropriate cells at that point. - (void)imageReceived:(UIImage *)image forRequest:(NSString *)identifier { NSLog(@"Got an image:%@",image); // What goes here? Or elsewhere? } This method is within my main view controller, I also have a custom cell controller where I'm drawing the cell content using Loren Brichter's fast scrolling code. Any help with this MGTwitterEngine method in particular, or with dynamically adding these images to my table cells would be greatly appreciated.
