ASP.NET Granting access to local resources

Hi all I have an ASP.NET web application that runs on a windows server 2003 server. there is a form that reads and writes data to an xml file inside the application's directory. I always grant the NETWORK SERVICE user full control on my application folder so that it can read and write to the xml file. I put the application on another windows server 2003 server and did the same steps above but i was getting an Access denied exception on the form that reads and writes to the xml. I did some search and found that if you grant the user ASPNET full control to the directory it would work, I did that and it worked fine. my question is: what is the difference between granting full control permissions to NETWORK SERVICE and ASPNET users ? and what can be the difference between the two servers that caused this issue ? thanks

I am involved in designing a asp.net webforms application using .NET 3.5. I have a requirement where we need to log exceptions. What is the best approach for exception handling, given that there would be concurrent users for this application? Is there a need or possibility to log in exceptions at a user level? My support team in-charge wants to have a feature where the support team can get user specific log files. To give you a background, this application is currently on VB 6.0 and we are migrating it along with some enhancements. So, today the support personnel have a provision to get user specific log files.

PHP Redirect one page to another server without showing URL

Having just written the title for this question I am aware of how dodgy it sounds! I am writing a back end for storing volunteer information for some friends, they have their own website to which I can add a volunteer.php page. What I want is for that page to redirect to a page on my server showing the form for the users to fill in, I would prefer the ugly URL of my site not to show. Is there an easy way to do this? Load the page inside the remotely hosted page somehow? Thanks, Gav

Setting tabindex in dynamic table vertically then horizontally

I have a page that is currently generating dynamically created textboxes in a table format. The users are requesting that the tab order be changed from horizontal-vertical to vertical-horizontal. I know that you can use the tabindex attribute to control the tab ordering, but I can't for the life of me figure out the right way to get the sequential number properly for the textboxes. I guess this is more of a math question than anything else! FYI, the textboxes are made while looping two different collections. First collection looped to make the rows, for each row, second collection (which is a property of the first collection objects) is looped to create the columns. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Killing the mysqld process

I have a table with ~800k rows. I ran an update users set hash = SHA1(CONCAT({about eight fields})) where 1; Now I have a hung Sequel Pro process and I'm not sure about the mysqld process. This is two questions: What harm can possibly come from killing these programs? I'm working on a separate database, so no damage should come to other databases on the system, right? Assume you had to update a table like this. What would be a quicker / more reliable method of updating without writing a separate script. I just checked with phpMyAdmin and it appears as though the query is complete. I still have Sequel Pro using 100% of both my cores though...

Can Atom be used for things besides syndication feeds?

Purely in terms of its conceptual model, is the purpose of Atom (and RSS) only to provide a time-sequential series of frequently-updated items, such as "most recent blog posts" or "last twenty SVN commits," or can Atom be legitimately used to represent static and/or non-time-sequential listings/indices? As an example, "index of files under this directory", "dog breeds" or "music genres". Even if there's a date associated with the items, like a file's last modified date, what if you don't necessarily want time to be the primary consideration when you represent that model to your users? The context for this is passing around (generating and consuming) lists of things in a REST-ful environment, hopefully using a well-understood format, where "date something was created/updated" is a pertinent detail, but not the primary consideration. I realize there's probably no right answer, but wanted to get some perspectives. Thanks.

How to override a user profile view,, in our own plugin, in elgg

I have created a new plugin named 'adv'. And in this plugin iam listing the users.Which using the view from other elgg plugin 'profile ie the page profile/views/default/profile/listing.php. Now i need to set a link in the existing view of each user.So i have to edit the profile plugin , mainly the page profile/views/default/profile/listing.php But how can i do this, without modifying elggs default plugin 'profile'. I have tried a method that i have copied the folder 'profile' from profile/views/default/profile and put it in adv/views/default/.But it donot working.] Is any solution for adding new link to the user view with editing other plugin, only editing our own plugin example 'adv'.

hg access control

Me and a couple of colleagues are starting to use mercurial, and we want to have a shared repository that would contain our QC-ed changes. Each of the developers hg clones the repository and pushes his changes back to the shared repository. I've read the HG init tutorial and skimmed through the red bean book, but could not find how to control who is allowed to push changes to the shared repository. Can someone tell me how to set up a hg repository such that it only allows specified users (by unix userids) to push changes?

Create user accounts Invite friends Have a friends list Write messages to each other (some kind of inbox system) Create posts on a standard message forum On top of this I will create some kind of game where users interact, so it must be posibble to extend the framework with new database tables and functionality. Web Forms 2.0: Editor & Libraries

Hi! I would like to build a web application where users can create forms with very few technical knowledge. Since they need "advanced" features like validations, required fields and some more, I am currently evaluating XForms and web forms 2.0 (from HTML 5 spec). Concerning web forms, my research couldn't find any answers for the following questions: Are there any (JavaScript) libraries out there which make web forms fully available in browsers which have currently no support for them (i.e. Firefox)? Is there a "web forms editor" which allows creating input and select fields, with setting attributes like the type, required, ...? It has to be something visual, and must create "nice" html. Any help/ hints would be appreciated!

C++ option/long option implementation

I am working on a parser for meta programming language using C++ on Linux platform. Right now, I need to implement option/long option for the parser to provide some additional features. Basically, if the user pass in some additional option, the parser needs to store statistics while parsing the text files. I can think of two ways to implement it. One way is to user global to store options entered by users. Another way is to create a singleton class to store options. So I would like to know if there is any other way to implement it. I want to write a cron job for updating user profile data on my website that I pull for users that register via facebook connect on my website. The objective is to keep their profile data on my website in sync with their profile data on facebook. So if a user updates their profile picture on facebook. I want to update his profile picture on my website as well via a cron job which will run every 24 hours. I wanted to know if this is possible and secondly if this is in violation of facebook privacy policy. Based on my research it seems doable but I wanted to know if anyone has already done something like this before. It would really help.

Create Access databases programatically through vb.net

Let me preface this by saying that I know this is a stupid way to go about this, but it needs to be handled in this way. I need to make an application that from a master database creates a number of access database files (tables of a larger db), then these are manually given to users who fill in data, the database files are emailed back to a user who, through the application, combines them again. The only part of this that I am unsure about is problematically creating the access db's. I have read that through Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider and Microsoft ADO Ext I can create them (the tables and data), but I also need forms. I have yet to start writing anything and this is away from my area of work, so any insight/links would be much appreciated. Also, I would hope to be able to write this in the free express version of visual studio. Are there components needed that would prevent me from this? Thanks.

Twitter API + OAuth - 401 error developing locally using reverse SSH tunnel

I'm developing a django application which lets users connect their Twitter account. As I'm developing locally, I have set up a reverse SSH tunnel so that the Twitter API has a valid callback url (myserver.net): ssh -nNTR :6969:localhost:8000 myserver.net On successful authentication, Twitter passes back its OAuth access tokens to myserver.net, which in turn attempts to access Twitter's API, which returns a 401 error. I assume that because the callback is different to the address which is accessing the API (myserver.net / localhost), Twitter denies me access. I have tried this: export http_proxy="http://myserver.net:3128" Where myserver.net:3128 is running a Squid Proxy server to tunnel Twitter's API requests from my development machine so they appear to be coming from myserver, but receive the same 401 error. When I deploy to a server with a proper hostname / static IP address it works fine. What else do I need to do?

I am trying to automate the process of creating an Exchange Mailbox for AD users and am running into an issue. Django: order by count of a ForeignKey field?

This is almost certainly a duplicate question, in which case apologies, but I've been searching for around half an hour on SO and can't find the answer here. I'm probably using the wrong search terms, sorry. I have a User model and a Submission model. Each Submission has a ForeignKey field called user_submitted for the User who uploaded it. class Submission(models.Model): uploaded_by = models.ForeignKey('User') class User(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=250 ) My question is pretty simple: how can I get a list of the three users with the most Submissions? I trued creating a num_submissions method on the User model: def num_submissions(self): num_submissions = Submission.objects.filter(uploaded_by=self).count() return num_submissions and then doing: top_users = User.objects.filter(problem_user=False).order_by('num_submissions')[:3] but this fails, as do all the other things I've tried. Can I actually do it using a smart database query? Or should I just do something more hacky in the views file?

I have built a Ruby on Rails app that allows users to track workouts. I also allow them to add groups (like blog tags) to workouts to help keep organized. In most places where I display the tags I do so by grouping by name. @group_counts = current_user.groups.count(:group => :name, :order => 'count_all DESC') Is there a way to disregard capitalization. For instance I have two different records returned for Push press and Push Press.

Loading a datagrid with large amounts of data in silverlight?

Hi I am breaking up my project in small sections and one of the sections involves loading a grid with possibily lots of records (could be up to 1000s of records in the database). Ideally I would like some sort of mechanism where as the users scrolls the grid, more data is retrieved. I have read that certain controls (datapager with RIA) do this but I would like to know how I could implement this myself or do something similiar? I was thinking about first loading 50 records at a time and when the user gets to scroll near the 50th record, then get another 50 as a start and so on. Not sure how I do this but this does not feel right or whether I should load ids of records in the grid and then get each row to load itself via an async thread but then I am hitting my database for each record? Client or server side invocation to google API?

I'm writing a web application with GWT and I've to call google calendar's API to retrieve some information. I now have this dilemma: Is it better to use a client side invocation (using javascript or gwt-gdata library) or using the standard google library for java to call the service at server side and then passing all the data to the client via an async call?? I'm not able to understand pros and cons of the two approaches... In particular, I need to call several time the calendar API to retrieve events and let users add new ones, etc. Can you help me?

A little question about the listing in iPhone OS and some other applications, and possibly in Android Market. When listing the apps, it fills the list in an automatic process, when reaching or is near to reach the end. My question is: How is that written in iPhone applications. But the main question is: Is that possible to make for Firefox users with Javascript, Ajax or possibly any other language?
