• Display/hide menu items depending on logged on user

  In my web app, I would like to show an "Admin" menu link only to users who have been added to the database as an administrator. What would be the best way to do this in ASP.NET MVC 2? At the moment, I am doing it by checking whether the user exists in the Admin database table for every page. Obviously, there must be a better way to do this. If it helps, I am using Windows Auth.

It's not the REAL .Net 4 Full Standalone. :( I want that installer in a usb pen drive because my app need of features of .Net 4 Full Framework (like MSBuild) and I will install in a enviroment without Internet access. PS: I tested the (2) and really is the Client Profile with another name... :(

• Heroku deployment: connection refused

  I have suddenly run into an issue deploying to Heroku. I created a new app, went to push and now see: ssh: connect to host heroku.com port 22: Connection refused My other previously working Heroku apps no longer work, receiving the same error. Other Heroku commands work (create, info, db:push). I can SSH to other services, so it doesn't look like it's my machine. Any ideas?

• Any success using Apache Thrift on iPhone?

  Has anybody done or seen a deployment of Apache Thrift in an iPhone app? I am wondering if is a reasonable solution for a high-volume, low(er)-latency network service for iPhones compared to HTTP. One noteworthy thing I found is a bug report about running Thrift on the iPhone, which seems to have been fixed. But that doesn't necessarily indicate that it's a done deal.

• Adding a valuetype to IDL, compile and it fails with "No factory found"

  I can't figure out why the client keeps complaining about the not finding the factory method. I've tried the IDL with and without the "factory" keyword and that didn't change the behavior. The SDMGeoVT IDL matches other objects used (which run successfully). The SDMGeoVT classes generated match other generated classes in regards to inheritance and methods. The IDL is as follows; The idlj compiler runs w/o error. I implement the function on the server and I see the server code run and serialize the object over the wire (the server code runs fine). The client bombs with the following stack trace (the first couple of lines is from the jacORB library). I've created a small app just to compile and test the code (ArrayClient & ArrayServer). The base app (from the jacORB demo) works fine.   I have a flex combobox as a datagrid itemrenderer. However, after selecting an item in the combobox, its necessary to click out of the combo (i.e. into another cell or elsewhere in the app) for the value to be committed to the combo. Prior to this, the combo sits 'proud' of the datagrid and the value hasnt actually been committed. Is there a way to force the value to be immediately committed after an item has been selected and for the combo to 'lose focus'?

I simply use /var/www/html/ as root of the app. do I need to buy 2 godaddy certificates, one for each domain? It seems that godaddy certificate is tied to a domain, not ip, can someone clarify?

Support on .NET4.0 is not even yet complete and it fails at runtime when used in a console app. The little Intellisense support that was there in VS2008 doesn't seem to work on VS2010 (from the information I have found) Should I avoid it?   I need to implement 'graphing paper' in an iPhone app. The user should be presented with a grid. They user can touch individual squares to turn them on, or if they're already on, off.The user can pinch to zoom and scroll around the paper as well.. So far I'm thinking Quartz 2D + UIScrollView is the way to do this but these are both areas of iPhone development that I'm unfamiliar with. Does this seem like a reasonable strategy?

All emails will come to a single address (this can't change unfortunately), and I need to be able to determine where they go. My initial thought was setting the message-id for the item so that it comes back as a References header. any ideas on how to accomplish this with ActionMailer?

• Visual Studio 2010, using VB.NET. Intellisense does not recognize new property until I recompile

  I have an ASP.NET VB.NET web project that references a VB.NET class library. I add a new property to a class in the class library, then, from the web app, I expect to be able to use it immediately w/o errors and with full intellisense. It used to work in 2008. When I compile the class library, it becomes available but not until. Was this nice feature taken away, perhaps in the interest of speed?
