• Display Computer Info on C# Web Application

  I want to build a page for end users to visit (in our MPLS Network) and it show the following information in regards to them: Computer Name OS Disk Space Memory IP Address Active Directory User Name Password Expiration Time (As defined by Global Policy) Maybe a few other things such as Trend Micro Office current version vs. their version, # of MS Updates needed (we utilize WSUS), and a few other things in the future. My question is how would I pull this information from the user when they visit the page? What is the proper function for this? Anyone have examples they wish to share for me to learn by if possible? • Problem with ASP.NET MVC DropDownList not displaying selected value

  I have an aspx page which allows me to edit articles. Among things I can edit is which category the article belongs to. The category is chosen through a DropDownList as shown here, <%= Html.DropDownList("categoryID", (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["CategoryID"], new { @class = "textbox" }) %> However, the articles category isn't selected when I go to that page. The ViewData I use for the DropDownList looks like this, ViewData["CategoryID"] = new SelectList(categories, "CategoryID", "Title", article.CategoryID); Which should select the article.CategoryID as it's selected value. Have I done this wrong?

  I have a website which useses a mysql database for its whole operation . But for a new requirement i need to query a external oracle database( used by other component) and compile a list of items and display in a page in the website. How is it possible to connect to a external database just for rendering a single page. And is it possible to cache the queried result for say 1 month before invalidating the cache and get the updated list of items. i dont want query the external oracle db for each request.

  Hi everyone, I am writing a simple android application with a class that extends activity, that plays a video from a url on the web. There is a button on top that on click takes the user to a web page. What I want to do is when the user is browsing the web page, if he hits the back button, I want him to come back to the main activity and restart the video. Is there a way to do this? Also, is there a way the video can be resumed from where it left off? Thank you. Chris

  i have this controller(visits.php) that use 3 models to build page, then it pass 4 vars to a view. this view contain a form that submit to another page (add_user.php) my question is how can i send the user back to visits.php in case the for_validation is false ? do i have to reload visits.php allover again ?-waste of resourss- or i should just send him back in history with js or php header for example ? can u plz show me an example of how u best handle false result of form_validation ? Note that when i user header('Location: ' . $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']); i couldnt echo validation_error() :( thanks for help

• Do controls need to be defined in a web app or will .NET do it for you

  I always thought that when you dropped a control onto an .aspx page that a declaration of that control ended up being generated for you (either in a designer file, or within your code behind). All of the apps I have worked on have worked this way. A coworker of mine was installing resharper and it was showing that all her code behind pages would not build. Turned out that resharper could not find a definition for any control that she has dropped onto her markup. She has no designer files, and no declarations in markup. Do they get automatically built when putting together the partial classes? Is there an option at that page/project level to instruct .NET to do this for you? Is this a difference between web app and web site? This is a a .NET 3.5 site, C#, and it is running in a production environment. Thanks in advance

• IE6 https security message appearing after closing jQuery colorbox overlay

  I am working on a secure site, https. I am using the colorbox jquery plugin to iframe another page from the same site over the current content. In IE6 when i close the colorbox overlay i get the following message: "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items. Do you want to display the nonsecure items?" Any ideas why this is happening? Can it be prevented? Assume i would have to make the whole site http rather than https but this is not possible as we have online payments.

And there are two ways that I should response in an event of logging failure, server redirect to the login page using header(url). CASE: If user directly enter a particular URL passing url in Ajax response asking client side page redirection or notification CASE: If user trying to perform some action through a Ajax request So my question is how can identify whether request coming from client side is a Ajax call or not ?   Using the following XPath derived rule, I am able to select a list of events from a Plone site (similar to Plone Community events) and display them in my Deliverance themed site: <replace content="//*[@id='parent-fieldname-title' or @class='explain' or @id='parent-fieldname-location' or @id='parent-fieldname-text']" theme="#center-content-to-replace-one" /> However, two separate, but related, problems now rear their heads. I can't work out how to: Re-order elements within the replaced theme, such as moving images originally held within #parent-fieldname-text to before #parent-fieldname-title Put arbitrary text before elements. Such as 'Page Title:' before #parent-fieldname-title I could do both if I was just dealing with one record, as place holders(1) or text before place holders(2) could be specified in the template - but I can't see a away for that template behaviour to repeat across multiple items in one page. (if that is indeed the solution) Is this a job for pyQuery?

  My friend is making a website for a class. Some of the pages display gif image files as links. They display correctly in Firefox and Chrome but not in Internet Explorer. Anybody know why? • Most Rails-y way to give different views of the same resource?

  In Rails, is there a canonical way of giving different views of the same resource? For example, a directory of people, where each person can have multiple photos, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. The people, photos and phone numbers are actually different resources with their own RESTful actions. But when viewing people, one page might shows everyone's name and associated photos; another page is names and associated contact information, formatted for printing. Would it be more "Rails-y" to: Create additional actions on the People controller besides the RESTful ones, like "index_with_contact_info"? Create a different controller and a different group of views? Neither seems quite right to me, but the first seems more likely. Any thoughts?

  I followed these instructions: http://www.visualwin.com/SelfSSL/ When I type https://localhost/ than it works, but when I try to access it remotely (i set up my router to port forward to localhost), for example https://myip the page does not load. Also, I noticed one other thing. When I access localhost locally then I am asked to enter user/pass, but if I access remotely the I get the following warning: Under Construction The site you were trying to reach does not currently have a default page. • New to C# and trying to use a global variable

  Is it possible to use global variables in C#? I'm coming from mainly a PHP background so variables are either accessible everywhere or just a global definition away. My main issue is I have a User class that I built myself to wrap around the current users table on my company's database. I am defining it in the MasterPage but can't seem to access it from the actual pages (I don't know if there's a better word to describe them but they are the pages that inherit the styles and format from the MasterPage) Any general tips or implementation practices for me? • My site was recently attacked. What do I do?

  This is a first for me. One of the sites I run was recently attacked. Not at all an intelligent attack - pure brute force - hit every page and every non-page with every extension possible. Posted with garbage data to every form and tried to post to some random urls too. All tod, 16000 requests in one hour. What should I do to prevent/alert this kind of behavior? Is there a way to limit the request/hr for a given ip/client? Is there a place I should be reporting the user to? They appear to be from China and did leave what seems like a valid e-mail.

• ASP.Net: Scheduled tasks in a shared environment.

  This is really an extension of this question, which asked the best way to schedule tasks which need to be performed periodically within ASP.NET in a normal environment. However, I would like to ask this specifically for a Shared Hosting Environment (most of the answers to the previous question would not work in a shared environment as far as I know). One obvious solution would be to have a page which is responsible to performing the tasks on the hosted machine, and call this page from another machine (that you have full control over) using e.g. a windows scheduled task. This is a bit nasty though - are there any better approaches?

When the user right clicks onto the editor page, I want a context menu to open. This menu holds a command for creating a new editor page, with a composite on it. The command is already working, but I'm quite clueless about how to implement the context menu for the editor. Can someone help with this?

  Hi, I need to use a custom scrollbar on jquery lightbox. My requirement is that when user clicks on a link then a popup appears and the popup contains 2 or 3 tabs, user can click on any tab to see it's content. In one of those tabs I need scrollbar to show huge content but the scrollbar should not be default it should be custom with any color. Currently I am using "JQuery's JScrollPane" plugin http://jscrollpane.kelvinluck.com to achieve the functionality, but this is not working on IE 6,7 and 8, mean scrollbar does not appear on IE. It works fine on Firefox and Chrome. Note: the same plugin works fine on IE also when I use it on page's element which is available while page load but not while the element is shown dynamically on lightbox. Thanks

• Dynamically created image doesn't show when <img>'s src is refreshed to point to it

  Hello, I have a javascript function generateGraph() { ... jQuery.get('chart.php?month='+month+'&year='+year); document.getElementById('graph').src = 'charts/'+month+'_'+year+'.png'; ... } which is called onChange. It basically creates, if not exists, or refreshes if already exists, a PNG image (using the first line above) and supposedly displays the generated image (using the second line above). The first line works, but the second one doesn't. Meaning, the image is generated, but the second line can't display the image, unless the page is reloaded, or if the image being referred to already existed before the page was loaded (meaning the 1st line just "refreshed" the image) Any ideas as to why this is and how to fix it? • MySQL calling in Username to show instead of ID!

  I have a users table, books table and authors table. An author can have many books, while a user can also have many books. (This is how my DB is currently setup). As I'm pretty new to So far my setup is like bookview.php?book_id=23 from accessing authors page, then seeing all books for the author. The single book's details are all displayed on this new page...I can get the output to display the user ID associated with the book, but not the user name, and this also applies for the author's name, I can the author ID to display, but not the name, so somewhere in the query below I am not calling in the correct values: SELECT users.user_id, authors.author_id, books.book_id, books.bookname, books.bookprice, books.bookplot FROM books INNER JOIN authors on books.book_id = authors.book_id INNER JOIN users ON books.book_id = users.user_id WHERE books.book_id=" . $book_id; Could someone help me correct this so I can display the author name and user name both associated with the book!   Hi, I've just started to play around with MVP in asp.net. One thing I quite cant figure out is how do I pass information, i.e. an integer variable from one view(webform) to another. Let's I have a customerlistView which is mapped to a customerlist.aspx page. From it I select a customer and it's record id. Say I want to display the customer's details in another view (i.e customerDetailView, customerdetail.aspx). How do I achieve that ? Does that mean customerlistView would call the presenter of the customerdetail and cause a page redirect ? Any ideas ? thanks
