• Using Google's App Engine as CDN for static files

  I am planning on moving my static files to Google's App Engine. I was wondering if this is a good idea to do. I have read that is it possible that Google will cache your files on multiple locations, which is a good thing in my opinion. The setup should also be quite easy in eclipse with the GAE plugins. But i still have my doubts on the performance of this. Is the setup of App Engine optimized for serving static content. Now I have Nginx server my static content, will App Engine perform the same way. Are there any other ups or downs using this method?

• Does C# have an equivalent to JavaScript's encodeURIComponent()?

  In JavaScript: encodeURIComponent("©v") == "%C2%A9%E2%88%9A" Is there an equivalent for C# applications? For escaping HTML characters I used: txtOut.Text = Regex.Replace(txtIn.Text, @"[\u0080-\uFFFF]", m => @"&#" + ((int)m.Value[0]).ToString() + ";"); But I'm not sure how to convert the match to the correct hexadecimal format that JS uses. For example this code: txtOut.Text = Regex.Replace(txtIn.Text, @"[\u0080-\uFFFF]", m => @"%" + String.Format("{0:x}", ((int)m.Value[0]))); Returns "%a9%221a" for "©v" instead of "%C2%A9%E2%88%9A". It looks like I need to split the string up into bytes or something. Edit: This is for a windows app, the only items available in System.Web are: AspNetHostingPermission, AspNetHostingPermissionAttribute, and AspNetHostingPermissionLevel.

• Javascript regex returning true.. then false.. then true.. etc

  I have a strange problem with the validation I am writing on a form. It is a 'Check Username' button next to an input. The input default value is the username for example 'betamax'. When I press 'Check Username' it passes the regex and sends the username to the server. The server behaves as expected and returns '2' to tell the javascript that they are submitting their own username. Then, when I click the button again, the regex fails. Nothing is sent to the server obviously because the regex has failed. If I press the button again, the regex passes and then the username is sent to the server. I literally cannot figure out what would be making it do this! It makes no sense to me! • How to parse a binary file using Javascript and Ajax

  I am trying to use JQuery to pull a binary file from a webserver, parse it in Javascript and display the contents. I can get the file ok and parse some of the file correctly. How ever I am running into trouble with one byte not coming out as expected. I am parsing the file a byte at a time, it is correct until I get to the hex value B6 where I am getting FD instead of B6. Function to read a byte data.charCodeAt(0) & 0xff; File As Hex: 02 00 00 00 55 4C 04 00 B6 00 00 00 The format I want to parse the file out into. short: 0002 short: 0000 string: UL short: 0004 long: 0000B6 Any hints as to why the last value is incorrect?

• How many instructions to access pointer in C?

  Hi All, I am trying to figure out how many clock cycles or total instructions it takes to access a pointer in C. I dont think I know how to figure out for example, p-x = d-a + f-b i would assume two loads per pointer, just guessing that there would be a load for the pointer, and a load for the value. So in this operations, the pointer resolution would be a much larger factor than the actual addition, as far as trying to speed this code up, right? This may depend on the compiler and architecture implemented, but am I on the right track? I have seen some code where each value used in say, 3 additions, came from a f2->sum = p1->p2->p3->x + p1->p2->p3->a + p1->p2->p3->m type of structure, and I am trying to define how bad this is

I want to determine the alpha channel value of the mouse cursor when I click on any portion of this image.   Hi! I have to dynamically send a flashvars value from <object>/<embed>, for example "<object name="flashvars" value="test=myxml.xml"> to my swf file. And in my AS, I have this: var xmlPath:String = _level0.test; doc.load(xmlPath); So, this way I want to read several xml files (at least it's my intention!). But nothing of what I do works... I also tried doc.load(_root.test) but it didnt work too. If I do: doc.load("someXML.xml") It works just fine!! I'm trying to solve this for many many hours and still didn't find any solution!! • Replacing sick NTP server source and re-synching (with internal time currently 2 minutes late)

  One of the external NTP servers (the primary one--currently) we're using as source seems to not be responding to NTP calls. Unfortunately, on our core router (Cisco 6509), the NTP functionality hasn't switched to the secondary NTP external server as it was expected. As a result, our core router which is pretty much our main internal NTP source is 2 minutes late. I'm planning to fix the external router issue by making the external NTP source be the one currently working. I'm wondering, how much will a 2 minute change affect my users and services? Specially since these days, we're heavily relying on certificate-based authentication. We're a Windows/Cisco shop. • I'm not sure if I should use a redirect

  Hi there, I have an affiliate link on my webpage. When you click on the link it follows the href value which is as follows: www.site_name.com/?refer=my_affiliate_id This would be fine, except that the site offers no tracking for the ads, so I can't tell how many clicks I am getting. I could easily implement my own tracking by changing the original link href value to a php script which increments some click stats in a database and then redirects the user to the original page. But I have read some articles that say that using redirects may be seen by google as a sign of 'blackhat' techniques and they might rank me lower, unindex my site or even hurt the site that I'm redirecting too. Does anybody know if this is true, or have any idea of the best way I could go about this? Many thanks in advance Joe

  I have a network of blogs that link to each other. The problem is when I want to get the primary blog's domain. I need it for things like the the target of the logo when clicked. I can't seem to find a function in WPMU the retrieves this. I can see the value I want in the wp_site table. I could easily get it with $wpdb, but its a bit over kill, and if there is a function that can get the value already, then I want to use it.

  I am running following code, getAccount() is a static function, $ac_info = AccountClass::getAccount($ac_code); print_r($ac_info); and getting following output AccountClass Object ( [account_code] => [email protected] [username] => XYZ [email] => [first_name] => [last_name] => [company_name] => [id] => [email protected] [balance_in_cents] => 0 [created_at] => 1271333048 [state] => active ) But I want to access the value of "account_code" shown above, how to access it, and AccountClass Object what is this, this is array or what? I am not getting it properly. Please explain what is AccountClass Object and how to access value of properties account_code, first_name inside this array. Thanks

• how to design network for connectivity between private and corporate LANs?

  there is a bunch of servers connected to shared storage in a private LAN (10.x.x.x). this privateLAN is managed by a windows server (DHCP, DNS and directory services) these hosts need to be from outside of the datacenter Eg. Remote desktop. can the NIC2 on each of the hosts be connected to the other public LAN (compromising speed or security? what are improtant considerations: additional hardware? like switches? routing&DNS software? currently available hardware : Dell Powerconnect 6224 switch .... planning this for storage network. software: windows 2003 server for DHCP, DNS, A/D ? would it be more flexible to use Linux distributions like IPCOP, Untangle etc? all that I am looking for is good isolation between private and other networks, avoid DHCP, DNS, AD clashes.
