• reading excel file in vb.net

• SQL 2005 - Search stored procedures for text (Not all text is being searched)

  The following bits of code do not seem to be searching the entire routine definition. Code block 1: select top 50 * from information_schema.routines where routine_definition like '%09/01/2008%' and specific_Name like '%NET' Code Block 2: SELECT ROUTINE_NAME, ROUTINE_DEFINITION FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.ROUTINES WHERE ROUTINE_DEFINITION LIKE '%EffectiveDate%' AND ROUTINE_TYPE='PROCEDURE' and ROUTINE_NAME like '%NET' I know for a fact that these bits of SQL work under most circumstances. The problem is this: When I run this for "EffectiveDate" which is buried at line ~800 in a few stored procedures, these stored procedures never show up in the results. It's as if "like" only searches so deep. Any tips on fixing this? I want to search the ENTIRE stored procedure for the specified text. Thanks!

• C++ Long switch statement or look up with a map?

  In my C++ application, I have some values that act as codes to represent other values. To translate the codes, I've been debating between using a switch statement or an stl map. The switch would look something like this: int code; int value; switch(code) { case 1: value = 10; break; case 2: value = 15; break; } The map would be an stl::map<int, int> and translation would be a simple lookup with the code used as the key value. Which one is better/more efficient/cleaner/accepted? Why?

  Hi, i'm using loadmovie() to load a youtube video player inside my flash website but when i load another video the old one doesn't stop, so i tried unloadmovie to destroy it but it seems that i did a mistake in my code This is how the code looks to stop the old one an load the new: vloader.unloadMovie(); vloader.loadMovie("http://www.youtube.com/v/Alw5hs0chj0&hl=fr&fs=1hJ-mPcGtC"); How to do that? please don't suggest me to use other objects or classes, i only want to edit that code. • Textmate tab and de-tab selected block

  Recently switched to Textmate on Mac for coding. On PC when ever I want to tab in or out a block of code I just highlight and press tab or shift+tab to move it in our out. It's very useful when you are adding an extra loop or conditional statement to a block of code to keep everything tidy and neatly indented. On Textmate however when I try this it just replaces my selected text with a tab. So is there a way to do tab and de-tab lines of code in textmate?

  Hi all, I was just wondering, is Graphics.DrawImage() asynchronous?   We have started using a static analyzer (Coverity) on our code base. We were promptly stupefied by the sheer amount of warnings we received (its in the hundreds of thousands) , it will take the entire team a few mounts to clear them all (obliviously impossible). the options we discussed so far are 1) hire a contractor to sort out the warning and fix them - he drawback: we will probably need very experiences people to do all these modifications, and no contractor will have required understanding of the code. 2) filter out the warning and deal only with the dangerous ones - the problem here is that our static analysis output will always be cluttered by warning making it difficult for us to isolate problems. also the filtering of the warning is also a major effort. either way, bringing our code to a state when the static analyzer can be a useful tool for us seems a monumental task. so how is it possible to work with the static analyzer without braining current development efforts into a complete stand still?

• Working effectively unit tests / Anyone tried the in-assembly approach?

  I'm trying to re-introduce unit testing into my team as our current coverage is very poor. Our system is quite large 40+ projects/assemblies. We current use a project named [SystemName].Test.csproj were all the test code is dumped and organised to represent the namespaces using folders. This approach is not very scalable and makes it difficult to find tests. I've been thinking about added a Tests folder to each project, this would put the unit tests "in the developers face" and make them easy to find. The downside is the Production release code would contain references to nunit, nmocks as well as the test code and test data.... Has anyone tried this approach? How is everyone else working with unit tests on large projects? Having a Tests project per "real" project/assembly would introduce too many new projs. Thanks in advance

  Hello everyone, Under Solaris 10, I'm creating a library A.so that calls a function f() which is defined in library B.so. To compile the library A.so, I declare in my code f() as extern. Unfortunately, I "forgot" to declare in A's makefile that it has to link with B. However, "make A" causes no warning, no error, and the library A.so is created. Of course, when executing A's code, the call of f() crashes because it is undefined. Is there a way (linker option, code trick...) to make the compilation of library A fail ? How can I be sure that all symbols refered to in library A are defined at compile time ? Thanks for any suggestions.

• C#: Why am I getting "the process cannot access the file * because it is being used by another proce

  I'm trying to convert bmp files in a folder to jpg, then delete the old files. The code works fine, except it can't delete the bmp's. But to me the code seems fine, since I'm doing everything sequentially. This is all that there is to the program too, so the error can't be caused by code elsewhere.

  How do you setup a project that can result in a jar library file that can be used for android? I want to create a custom library across all projects. Few other questions: Does it need to be compiled against a specific version of android sdk? When an android package is compiled against a jar library does the classes necessary to work with the code get compiled with main code into the apk or does the entire jar get included? Any notable optimizations or pitfalls I need to know about with using a jar instead of integrating the code directly? Does the jar have to be signed like the apk needs to?

• Visual Studio 2005 Ignores Preprocessor directives during compile

  We just got a new developer and I'm trying to set him up with Dev Studio 2005 (The version we all use at this office), and we're running into a weird problem that I've never seen before. I have some code that works perfectly on my system, and he can't seem to get it compiled. We've tracked the issue down to his copy of dev studio ignoring the preprocessor directives. For example, in the project properties under C/C++|Preprocessor|Preprocessor Directives, I add DEFINE_ME. Which should translate to a /D"DEFINE_ME" for the compiler. And it does in my development environment, but it doesn't on his. I verified that when he checks out the code from the source repository, that he has the same version of the code I do. And if I look in his Project Properties, all of the directives are there. For some reason they're just not getting passed down to the compiler. Any Ideas?

• JQuery cookie access has stopped working for GAE app

  I have a google app engine app that has been running for some time, and some javascript code that checks for a login cookie has suddenly stopped working. As far as I can tell, NO code has changed. The relevant code uses the jquery cookies plugin (jquery.cookies.2.2.0.min.js)... // control the default screen depending // if someone is logged in if( $.cookies.get('dev_appserver_login') != null || $.cookies.get('ACSID') != null ) { alert("valid cookie!") $("#inventory-container").show(); } else { alert("INvalid cookie!") $("#welcome-container").show(); } The reason for the two checks is that in the GAE SDK, the cookies are named differently. The production system uses 'ACSID'. This if statement works in the SDK and now fails 100% of the time in production. I have verified that the cookie is, in fact, present when I inspect the page. Thoughts?

Now I don't work for NASA, the military or anything labeled Top Secret but our code is very important to our business nonetheless (as all source code would be).   I don't have a lot of experience with Jboss AOP and I'm just curious if it's possible to replace all calls like Field f = foo.class.getDeclaredField("bar"); f.set(object, value); with something like Field f = foo.class.getDeclaredField("bar"); FieldSetCaller.invoke(f, object, value); using Jboss AOP. FieldSetCaller is my own class. I need to replace all Field.set calls on the fly, without recompiling the code. Some third -party code I even cannot recompile because I don't have the source. I can achieve this using java asm framework and I'm wandering if Jboss AOP can do it as well. Just for information - my code is running on Jboss server 4.3.0

• How do I configure emacs for editing HTML files that contain Javascript?

  I have started the painful first steps of using emacs to edit an HTML file with both HTML tags and javascript content. I have installed nxhtml and tried using it - i.e set up to use nxhtml-mumamo-mode for .html files. But I am not loving it. When I am editing the Javascript portion of the code the tab indents do not behave as they do when editing C/C++ code. It starts putting tabs within the line and if you try and hit tab in the white space preceding a line it inserts the tab rather than re-tabifying the line. Another aspect that I don't like is that it doesn't do syntax colouring like the usual C/C++ modes do. I much prefer the behaviour of the default java-mode when editing HTML files but that doesn't play nicely with the HTML code. :-( 1) Is there a better mode for editing HTML files with Javascript portions? 2) Is there a way to get nxhtml to use the default java-mode for the javascript portions? So I am outputting this code immediately after to try and achieve this: echo 'Hello '; echo $row['fullname']; Before this change, I had it working perfectly, where the session variable of fullname was echoed $_SESSION['SESS_NAME']. However, because my user can update their information (including their name), I wanted the name displayed in the header to be updated accordingly, and not displaying the session value.
