  Hi, I have a code fragment in which I am using a static code block to initialize a variable. public static class JoinMap extends Mapper<IntWritable, MbrWritable, LongWritable, IntWritable> { ....... public static RTree rt = null; static { String rtreeFileName = "R.rtree"; rt = new RTree(rtreeFileName); } public void map(IntWritable key, MbrWritable mbr,Context context) throws IOException, InterruptedException { ......... List elements = rt.overlaps(mbr.getRect()); ....... } } My problem is that the variable rt in the above code fragment is not getting initialised. Can anybody suggest a fix or an alternate way to initialise the variable. I don't want to initialise it inside my map function since that slows down the entire process.

• What is a good practice for handling SQL connections within a WCF call?

  Suppose I want to create a (stateless) WCF service with three methods exposed on an endpoint: performSqlOperationA(), performSqlOperationB(), and performSqlOperationC(). Each method inserts data into a SQL database. The way I've seen things done at my office, each method would begin with code to initialize a SqlConnection object. Each method would end with code to safely dispose it. What is a good practice for coding these WCF methods so that the SqlConnection object is initialized and disposed in each method without having to do these things in each method? I know that I can have the connection initialized in the constructor for the class for the WCF methods, but I don't know about disposing it... The calls cannot be wrapped in a using block. One solution I'm familiar with is PostSharp, which allows me to set an attribute which causes specific code to automatically run at the beginning and end of each method call, but it would be greatly preferable to do this with only the .net framework.

  In shell scripts set -e is often used to make them more robust by stopping the script when some of the commands executed from the script exits with non-zero exit code. It's usually easy to specify that you don't care about some of the commands succeeding by adding || true at the end. The problem appears when you actually care about the return value, but don't want the script to stop on non-zero return code, for example: output=$(possibly-failing-command) if [ 0 == $? -a -n "$output" ]; then ... else ... fi Here we want to both check the exit code (thus we can't use || true inside of command substitution expression) and get the output. However, if the command in command substitution fails, the whole script stops due to set -e. Is there a clean way to prevent the script from stopping here without unsetting -e and setting it back afterwards?

  i want to insert the login form of FOSUserBundle in my template like this: <div id="sidebar"> {% render "FOSUserBundle::Security::login" %} </div> but not to render the template that is been calling in the code of loginAction() originally. I have thought I'd find useful the possibility of passing the template I want to render as a parameter as 'max' in this example: <div id="sidebar"> {% render "AcmeArticleBundle:Article:recentArticles" with {'max': 3} %} </div> Is that possible in symfony2?   Hi, in SQL Server 2008, when setting up a full text search, it gives me an option to choose a time/day for it to re-populate the index, can I do this from code instead like C# code? if so how would I do it? Would I need to execute SQL code from C# to refresh the index? Also, say if I DONT re-populate the index and add some new records, by using the FTS query will the new records still come up? But slower? Or will they not come up at all unless i reindex?

  Hello everyone, I want to count the number of accounts from the resulting table generated from this code. This way, I know how many people liked blue at one time. Select Distinct PEOPLE.FullName, PEOPLE.FavColor From PEOPLE Where FavColor='Blue' Lets say this is a history accounting of what people said their favorite color when they were asked so there may be multiple records of the same full name if asked again at a much later time; hence the distinct. The code I used may not be reusable in your answer so feel free to use what you think can work. I am sure I found a possible solution to my problem using declare and if statements but I lost that page... so I am left with no solution. However, I think there is a way to do it without using conditionals which is what I am asking and rather have. Thanks. Edit: My question is: From the code above, is there a way to count the number of accounts in the resulting table?

• UTF8 issues on Linux

  Hi, I have some code that fetches some data from the database, database codepage is UTF8. When I run the code on a linux box, some characters come out as question marks (?) but when I run the same code on a windows server, all characters appear correctly. When I do: $ $LANG Following is returned en_SG.UTF-8 en_SG is something that doesn't look correct, it should be en_US but the latter part of the returned string is UTF-8 which is good. Is there anything else that I can look into to fix the character corruption problem?

• Ext.app.application object is erased after initialization

  I am trying to organize an existing extjs code in a more standard order (extjs wise). extjs version: extjs-4.0.2a. I've worked through the Extjs tutorial example and every thing went well. When I started working on the company's code I've notice there is no use of the application object there for I've added the Ext.application({...}); call. Ext.application({ name: 'FOO', appFolder: 'appFolderName', launch: function() { console.log('application was created'); } }); Upon loading the page I see the console.log output that is included in the "launch" function property - meaning the application object is created but when I look for it ("FOO" object) under the "window" object it is not there. Compering to the tutorial code the application object exist as a property of window. I encounter a few loading problems but I'm guessing the source of it all is this issue. What am I doing wrong? thanks.

In these cases, I always have to talk to the person who experienced the error to find out what they were doing, step through the code, and try to reproduce the error. Is there any best practices or ways I can minimize all this extra work? Should I log the parameters in each method like this? Logger.Log("Params: " + appetizer + "," + mainCourse + "," + dessert, ex); Is there a better way to log the current environment? If I do it this way, will I need to write out all this stuff for each method I have in my application? Are there any best practices concerning scenarios like this?

Right now they are all DataTables, which isn't very space efficient (the rule of thumb is 10x increase in size when data is strored in a dataset). • Segfault when calling a method c++

  I am fairly new to c++ and I am a bit stumped by this problem. I am trying to assign a variable from a call to a method in another class but it always segfaults. My code compiles with no warnings and I have checked that all variables are correct in gdb but the function call itself seems to cause a segfault.   I'm getting this error when I call a web service: "The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required". I get the general idea and I can get the code to work by adding myProxy.Credentials= NetworkCredential("user", "password", "domain"); or by using DefaultCredentials in code. My problem is that the call to the web service works in production without this. It seems like there is a non code solution involving Machine.config, but what is it? At the moment I can't get to the production boxes machine.config file to see what that looks like. I tried updating my machine.config as follows, but I still get the 407 error.

(Persian digits uni06F0..uni06F9). the number of visitors is generated by blog service. and I want to convert its digits to Arabic. Counter: ????? ????????????? : <BlogSky:Weblog Counter /> ??? the Persian part of above code mean 'Number of visitors' and 'Persons' (from left to right). but digits are represented in latin (0123...). Is it possible to write something like a function in html? i want it to be a global one for using in weblogs. Note: I don't know anything about web programming languages.   I'm working on GAE-J/GWT app, wherein a desktop app connects to the GAE-J component, and there is also a web-app component whose front-end is written in GWT, and the GAE-J backend supports both the desktop app and the web app. I have a good amount of experience with writing pure server code and desktop code, but not so much on the web-app side of things. So I'm looking to study some good sophisticated open source code to see how other's have done things, but I can't find much open source GWT and/or GAE-J stuff, other than frameworks. Does anyone know of any good projects out there?

• Showing custom model validation exceptions in the Django admin site.

  I have a booking model that needs to check if the item being booked out is available. I would like to have the logic behind figuring out if the item is available centralised so that no matter where I save the instance this code validates that it can be saved. At the moment I have this code in a custom save function of my model class: def save(self): if self.is_available(): # my custom check availability function super(MyObj, self).save() else: # this is the bit I'm stuck with.. raise forms.ValidationError('Item already booked for those dates') This works fine - the error is raised if the item is unavailable, and my item is not saved. I can capture the exception from my front end form code, but what about the Django admin site? How can I get my exception to be displayed like any other validation error in the admin site?
