• Scroll bar not maintaining its position in ListView (ASP.net)

  Hi I have a listview inside a DIV which shows the scroll bars. At one time, let's say, 10 rows can be seen. I scroll down and click Edit on 25 row. To my surprise, the scroll goes to the first row (although if I go back to 25th row, the row is in edit mode) My issue, how I can make sure that the scroll bar maintains its position to 25th row after clicking on Edit button? • How can I make my search more broad?

  I created this search mysql string and it is to literal or maybe un-literal? If I search for Dave for example it will only find items like "Dave something" and not find Dave. $queryArtist = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM artists WHERE artist LIKE '%$ArtistNameSearch%' ORDER BY artist ASC"); I know mysql_query is out dated and will change it to mysqli soon as I get this worked out. • IIS 6 session timing out a lot quicker than expected

  I am working with an web application that has its sessions timing out a lot quicker than expected. We expected a timeout of 15 minutes but it's timing out at 3-4 minutes. Info about environment: IIS6 classic ASP / COM+ app timeout OK on current PROD, much quicker in dev / QA environments We already disabled app pool recycling, and even put IIS in isolation mode - no effect HTTP err log doesn't display any lines when session times out We've done a close comparison of PROD and DEV / QA environments, and given we use virtual machines on all of them, settings should be preserved. I tried to find IIS blog notes from David Wang but many of them now have HTTP 404 errors, and I don't know what else to do. Please help! At the very least, is there a way to get IIS to log every time a session expires? At the very least some means of logging / debugging IIS would be useful. Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I am learning programming in embedded systems using Linux as my main platform. And I want to create a Device Event Management Service. This service is a user-space application/daemon that will detect if a connected hardware module triggered an event. But my problem is I don't know where should I start. I read about Netlink implementation for userspace-kernelspace communication and it seems its a good idea but not sure if it is the best solution. But I read that the UDEV device manager uses Netlink to wait a "uevent" from the kernel space but it is not clear for me how to do that. I read about polling sysfs but it seems it is not a good idea to poll filesystem. What do you think the implementation that should I use in my service? Should I use netlink(hard/no clue how to) or just polling the sysfs(not sure if it works)? Thanks

  Hi all, a bit of advice required here :). I recently graduated(Computer Science), and need to decide a path to take programming/technology wise. I have knowledge of Java, C, SQL most of it is university level stuff. I work daily with PHP/SQL building web apps. Which language / technology would you advise me to learn. I am very interested in Database management, GIS etc. Web dev is also very interesting to me. It is all a bit confusing since i would like to learn something that will have a value at least in the near future. I would like to have some ideas on which language/technology is god choice in order to be marketable.

• Why does Java not have any destructor like C++?

  Java has its own garbage collection implementation so it does not require any destructor like C++ . This makes Java developer lazy in implementing memory management. And Garbage Collection is very expensive. Still we can have destructor along with garbage collector where developer can free resources and which can save garbage collector's work. This might improves the performance of application. Why does Java not provide any destructor kind of mechanism? Developer does not have control over GC but he/she can control or create object. Then why not give them ability to destruct the objects?

• ASP.Net: Finding the cause of OutOfMemoryExpcetions

  I trying to track down the cause of an OutOfMemory for a website. This site has ~12,000 .aspx pages and the last time it crashed I captured a memory dump using adplus. After some investigation I found a lot of heap fragmentation, there are around 100MB of Free blocks which can't be assigned. Digging deeper one of the Large Object Heaps is fragmented and the causes seems to be String interning as described [here][1] Could this be caused by the number of pages in the site? As they are all compiled they sit in memory and by looking at the dump they are interned and PINNED which I think means they stick around for a while. I would find this odd as there are many sites with more pages, but dynamic compilation could account for the growth in memory. What other methods are there for finding the cause of the memory leak? The data gets continuously updated and I'd like to guarantee that at least N nodes have almost-current data at any given time. I do not need complete consistency, only eventual consistency (t.i. for any time instant, the current snapshot of data should eventually appear on at least N nodes. It is tricky to define the term "current" here, but still). Nodes may fail and go back up at any moment, and there is no single "central" node. O overflowers! • Can't correctly stream x264 video to mobile via RTSP

  Hello! I'm trying to stream video compressed with x264 and NeroAAC and hinted with MP4Box. When i'm playing it with VLC player streaming works fine, as expected. When i'm trying to open URL with my HTC Hero, it switches to player mode, then starts "loading video" animation, then after some time it shows "unable to connect to server". Sample movies provided with DSS streamed fine regardless bitrate. I tried few encoding options, but always the same result. I suspect nocabac and level=11 but it didn't changed nothing. Is there some more specific encoding options for such type? Thank You!

  I started an app that was initially a testing platform--user management, and managers that can view their employees tests. Recently, functionality has been extended (not built yet) to allow users to complete a test in place of an employee--basically adding a record, but no user. I have three tables in use for this: users(contains user info for login/security), profiles (all personal info: address, height, etc.), and survey (contains survey answers for user). How do I extend my application to encompass this functionality with minimal change to the structure? I assume that the best way to do this would be to insert records to the tables profiles and survey, and have no username/password/email? There MUST be a user_id associated b/c the tables are linked through the user_ids...

• CSS for mobile sometimes reverts back to original

  So most of the time my stylesheets appear properly. The standard/original one always works flawlessly, however it seems sometimes the mobile one is disregarded when looked at from a mobile device I have them designated as follows: <link runat="server" href="CustomStyleSheets/Menu.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="CustomStyleSheets/mobile.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="only screen and (max-device-width: 799px)" /> I'm using a Droid X to view the page, in portrait mode, so the device width shouldn't be exceeding the max-width specified above, but sometimes, randomly, it still reverts back to the original css page. Any way to keep it from doing so?

• Can a client determine whether the server has accept()'d a unix socket?

  I'm dealing with a buggy server that will sometimes fail to accept() connections (but leaves its listening socket open). This is on Linux with unix domain sockets. Currently the only way to detect this is that after sending a bunch of data, the buffer fills up and blocks, and the server isn't sending any replies. This long-after-the-fact failure mode is hard to distinguish from other bugs - the server could be unresponsive for other reasons. Especially for unix domain sockets it seems the kernel should know whether accept() has occurred; is there any way to find this out? Can the client block until accept() happens somehow, or at least check whether it has? This is just for debugging purposes so it can be a little ugly.

• What is the best way to migrate documents into Sharepoint (MOSS) 2007?

  I'm working with a customer that needs to migrate documents from their current document management system (not Sharepoint) into Sharepoint MOSS 2007 retaining document history and metadata. I've written a proof of concept using the Sharepoint web services and that looks promising, but the snag so far seems to be programmatically setting the created date/time and user. The webservices allow the fields to be set but implicitly override them to be the currently logged in user + date/time. For obvious reasons, I need to be able to keep the original created date/time and user on migration. Does anyone know the best way to approach this problem?

• Why do Java/C# edge out C++ as the recommended language to learn OOP on S.O?

  I noticed after reading the answers/discussion to this question (What is the best language to learn OOP on?) - that more and more people are recommending C# or Java over C++ to learn OOP on. A simple term search on that answer page results in 10 hits for C++, 21 for C# and 27 for Java. Now, I understand that these 2 languages fix a lot of quirks and issues with C++, and looked up these resources that relate mostly to performance, JVM vs native implementation, systems focus vs applications, manual memory management vs automated et al. My question is - are there any fundamental differences in the OO capabilities of Java/C# vs C++? Or are the former recommended purely due to their generic ease of use/improvements over the latter? Thanks. PS, I'm aware of Java interface inheritance vs C++ multiple inheritance as a difference. I would consider that an implementational one rather than functional.

  I've created a WCF service and added it to an existing Silverlight application that I am working on. When I run the silverlight application in debug mode it fails when I reference the WCF web service. Unrecognized element '' in service reference configuration. Note that only a subset of the Windows Communication Foundation configuration functionality is available in Silverlight. After searching around apparently the following line is causing the app to fail: <transport> <extendedProtectionPolicy policyEnforcement="Never" /> </transport> After removing the above lines everything works. What is the issue here? Should I believing this code in and configuring something else?

• ignore certain buffers using iswitchb

  Hello, GNU Emacs 23.1 I am using iswitchb. However, when I press c-x b I get a list of buffers. However, I don't want to display one like scratch, Messages, GNU Emacs, etc. Just the buffers I have opened myself. So I am looking for a way to ignore these buffers. This is what I have in my configuration. However, it doesn't ignore the buffers I don't want.   Hi, I have following View COntroller structure: ScrollViewController LandscapeViewController PortraitViewController Each with its own .nib The app starts in landscape mode where many landscape views are added to a scrollview. Each landscape view has its specific portrait view, so I have to assign like ID's to each of this views. Can you tell me, how I can load the specific portrait view for each landscape view when rotating the device? Do I have to make two scroll views? One for landscape, one for portrait? Or is it possible to just scroll through the landscape scrollview an load just one portrait view with the right content based on an ID? How could I implement that? • IE6 image scaling with bicubic filter

  I have a project where I have to resize some images in the actual browser side. IE8, FF3 et al all apply a filter to smooth the resizing of the image, so in these browsers everything looks good. In IE7 I have applied the following fix which works great: -ms-interpolation-mode:bicubic; In IE6 however I can only find references to the AlphaImage Filter (the same one used to enable alpha transparency on PNG files). However I can't find an example of how to use it, nor have I been able to get it working myself. Can anyone provide me with an example? Preferably applied to actual img tags, though I could use background images if required. • LINQ-to-XML to DataGridView: Cannot edit fields -- How to fix?

The trouble I am running into is that once loaded into the DataGridView, the values appear to be Un-editable (ReadOnly). Mine friend do the layout design and arranging things , and mine part is coding and server management. The little problem i am facing is lack of experience in planing a project .What i do is , i just start the code straight away and along with code I make DB , Like when i need a table i make it. I know this is very bad approach for a medium sized project. Here at stackoverflow i saw lots of experienced coders . Need to learn a lot from you guys :) .
