  • win32 sdk: problems with caption/border of child window

    I'm creating a child window within the main window. I assigned these styles to the child window: WS_CHILDWINDOW | WS_VISIBLE | WS_VSCROLL | WS_HSCROLL | WS_SIZEBOX | WS_CAPTION The child window I get has a caption and a resizable border. However there's no close button in the caption, and the caption/border of the child window is not transparent (I'm using the aero theme in windows 7). How to add close button to the caption? How can I make the caption/border transparent?

  • User control blank on form in VS 2008

    I've created a user control that contains a table layout control with various other standard controls like buttons and labels. Yet when I add the user control to one of my forms the control is blank. I've tried building the solution and a see the user-control flicker as if it's being updated, but it remains blank. Also if I actually run the program the usercontrol can not be see on the form. I've used usercontrols like this in the past. Is there something I'm missing?

    My goal is to find all pdf files on a remote machine, so I resort to the useless command find. So I type find . *.pdf or find ~ .pdf or find ~ ".pdf" and I get nothing. I do the same on my machine and I get nothing. I do a regular search from the menu on my machine and I find quite a few pdf files. Would somebody please tell me what am I doing wrong?

    I had the following situation: main application has app.xaml, which sets the style for TextBox controls a custom control is implemented in a separate DLL, and uses several TextBox controls The main application's TextBox style is applied to the custom control's TextBox controls. Cool! My problem comes in because I need to use a class derived from TextBox in the custom control. Now the main app's TextBox style is no longer applied. Can the custom control DLL have something like "app.xaml" where I can set the style for all my derived TextBox controls? Or can the main application somehow set the style for all TextBox-derived classes? Thanks!

  • More elegant way to make a C++ member function change different member variables based on template p

    Today, I wrote some code that needed to add elements to different container variables depending on the type of a template parameter. I solved it by writing a friend helper class specialized on its own template parameter which had a member variable of the original class. It saved me a few hundred lines of repeating myself without adding much complexity. However, it seemed kludgey. I would like to know if there is a better, more elegant way. The code below is a greatly simplified example illustrating the problem and my solution. F and G are open to limited modification if that would produce a more elegant solution. (As an example of one such modification, in the real application F's constructor takes a dummy parameter to make it look like G's constructor and save me from repeating myself.) In the real code, Worker is a friend of User and member variables are private. To make the example simpler to write, I made everything public. However, a solution that requires things to be public really doesn't answer my question. Given all these caveats, is there a better way to write User::doIt?

  • Why Does My Vector<PEVENTLOGRECORD> Mysteriously Get Cleared?

    Hello everyone, I am making a program that reads and stores data from Windows EventLog files (.evt) in C++. I am using the calls OpenBackupEventLog(ServerName, FileName) and ReadEventLog(...). Also using this: PEVENTLOGRECORD Anyway, without supplying all of the code, here is the basic idea: 1. I get a handle to the .evt file using OpenBackupEventLog() and passing in a file name. 2. I then use ReadEventLog() to fill up a buffer with an unknown number of EventLog messages. 3. I traverse through the buffer and add each message to a vector 4. I keep filling up buffers (repeat steps 2 and 3) until I reach the end of the file. Here is my code for filling the vector: vector<PEVENTLOGRECORD> allRecords; while(_status == ERROR_SUCCESS) { if(!ReadEventLog(...)) But as soon as this line: if(!ReadEventLog()) gets called and returns true (aka ReadEventLog() returns false), then every field in my vector gets set to zero. The vector will still contain the correct number of elements, it's just that all of the fields in the PEVENTLOGRECORD struct are now zero. Anyone with better debugging experience have any ideas?     Wait, wait, this is a programming question! I want to build an extension if none exists. Imagine this: you come across a webpage that says "Just send a message to [email protected]" but to actually send the email, you need to highlight the address and then cut and paste it into the recipient field of a new compose window of your email client of choice. Obviously life would be easier if it were simply a mailto: link, so you could click on it and have a new message created automatically. (Or if the page designer had used a form, perhaps ...) I was originally going to ask if there was an extension to enable similar functionality for unlinked twitter @username mentions but I thought this email address problem would be a simpler situation. If you think it would be useless, perhaps I should look at the twitter username problem instead. Thanks for your feedback.

What if I have a n states system, how would I spray some "dt" in the F matrix?

  • regressions with many nested categorical covariates

    I have a few hundred thousand measurements where the dependent variable is a probability, and would like to use logistic regression. However, the covariates I have are all categorical, and worse, are all nested. By this I mean that if a certain measurement has "city - Phoenix" then obviously it is certain to have "state - Arizona" and "country - U.S." I have four such factors - the most granular has some 20k levels, but if need be I could do without that one, I think. I also have a few non-nested categorical covariates (only four or so, with maybe three different levels each). What I am most interested in is prediction - given a new observation in some city, I would like to know the relevant probability/dependent variable. I am not interested as much in the related inferential machinery - standard deviations, etc - at least as of now. I am hoping I can afford to be sloppy. However, I would love to have that information unless it requires methods that are more computationally expensive. Does anyone have any advice on how to attack this? I have looked into mixed effects, but am not sure it is what I am looking for.

    I have a Button with an OnClickListener. For illustrative purposes, consider a button that shows a modal dialog: public class SomeActivity ... { protected void onCreate(Bundle state) { super.onCreate(state); findViewById(R.id.ok_button).setOnClickListener( new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { // This should block input new AlertDialog.Builder(SomeActivity.this) .setCancelable(true) .show(); } }); } Under normal usage, the alert dialog appears and blocks further input. Users must dismiss the dialog before they can tap the button again. But sometimes the button's OnClickListener is called twice before the dialog appears. You can duplicate this fairly easily by tapping really fast on the button. I generally have to try several times before it happens, but sooner or later I'll trigger multiple onClick(...) calls before the dialog blocks input. I see this behavior in Android 2.1 on the Motorola Droid phone. We've received 4 crash reports in the Market, indicating this occasionally happens to people. Depending on what our OnClickListeners do, this causes all sorts of havoc. How can we guarantee that blocking dialogs actually block input after the first tap?

    In my iPhone project I'm using a UITableview with UITableViewCells containing UITextfields. I have seen in many apps that it is possible to use a next button to jump to the next textfield in the next cell. What is the best way to accomplish this? My idea is to get the indexPath of the cell with the textfield that is being editing and then get the next cell by cellForRowAtIndexPath. But how can I get the indexPath of the cell I'm currently editing? Thanks!

I have several AJAX calls throughout the page to dynamically load form fields on the fly: <cfselect id="this" name="this" bind="cfc:Data.getThis()" bindonload="true" /> <cfselect id="that" name="that" bind="cfc:Data.getThat({p1})" /> <cfselect id="theOther" name="theOther" bind="cfc:Data.getTheOther({p1}, {p2})" /> <cfdiv id="maxQty" bind="cfc:Data.getMaxQty({itemId})" /> <cfinput type="text" id="qty" name="qty" /> <cfdiv id="itemId" bind="cfc:Data.getItemId({this}, {that}, {theOther})" /> In the above CFFORM, I basically want to set the minValue of the range to "1" and the maxValue of the range to the value of cfc:Data.getMaxQty({itemId}). Is this possible? How can I do it?

  • Why do my horizontal toolstrips keep stacking verticaly?

    I'm using a ToolStripContainer that contains three ToolStrips. At design time I move the ToolStrips to the positions I want them in, which is in a horizontal row across the top of the form like this: I then close and save the Form. However, if I open the form up again the ToolStrips end up stacked up on the left side of the ToolStripContainer like this: How can I keep the ToolStrips in the positions that I specify?
