• Bind "media" keys on MacBook keyboard to application menu items

  Currently, I am using PandoraBoy to listen to my Pandora stations. In the preferences, it allows you to set global hotkeys to control playing, like/dislike, volume, stations, etc. What I would like to do is allow the built-in media keys on my MacBook Pro's keyboard (F7-F12: Previous, Play/Pause, Next, Mute, Volume Up, Volume Down) to control PandoraBoy like they do iTunes. Right now, I am using Command-F(7-12) to control it, but that requires me to hold down the "fn" and command keys Is there a way to bind these commands to the media keys without needing to function-shift them?

• Google reader Keyboard shortcuts not working in Firefox 3.6

  I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 which comes with Firefox 3.6.3. Now Google reader some keyboard shortcuts stopped working, The j/k keys are ok, but 'v', 'Shift+x' and others don't work and start the Search As You type functionality I've always used. The Javascript console only shows this warning: Warning: The 'charCode' property of a keyup event should not be used. The value is meaningless.   On new or existing Citrix XenApp 4.5 servers, I am having problems streaming the Allscripts Pro EHR application via the XenApp web interface. When users launch the application via the Citrix XenApp web interface, the application does not have focus, preventing users from typing in their username and password. If they use their mouse to select either the username or password fields, they still cannot enter any text. However, if they do any of the following actions, they can then enter in their username and password and the application runs without problems: Click on the Login button with empty fields. Logon fails but they can then enter their credentials. Minimize the login window and then maximize it. They can then gain keyboard focus to enter their credentials. What might be preventing this particular application from having focus when it launches?

  I have a 3 year old Dell inspiron 6400 with windows 7 and ubuntu 9.10 dual boot. I messed up my Laptop keyboard and hence my Fn key is not working and I need it to activate the wireless whose activation combination is Fn+F2. Is there any way I can emulate the Fn key or get my wireless to start in windows or ubuntu ? My bios has an option for Fn key emulation but that only supports external PS/2 keyboards and my laptop doesn't have a ps/2 slot. Any ideas would be appreciated ..

• Lock Windows keyboard and mouse but still display screen normally

  I'm using windows 7, I have a dual monitor display. It displays important information related to the business, I'd rather that random users that walk in can't just walk over to it and start using the computer with the same access rights as the user the monitoring software is running as. What I would like is if any time someone presses a button on the keyboard including alt-ctrl-delete all that would appear is a dialog asking for a password. Then I can click cancel and it will return to showing the data I want displayed. ClearLock doesn't work I tried it btw

• Synergy 1.4.2 Linux server, OSX client, Media/Function key mapping issues

  I'm using an Apple bluetooth keybord to control my Linux synergy server. SSH tunneling, Mouse, Keyboard, and Copy&Paste all work. Linux sees all the media/app keys that are on top of the F# keys correctly. However if I press any of those keys while controlling my OSX client, nothing happens on the client. • Binding navigation property to RadGrid while using EntityDataSource control

  I'm new to Entity Framework and I got stuck in an issue while trying to bind a navigation property (foreign key reference) to a dropdownlist. I have Telerik RadGrid control which gets the data using a EntityDataSource control. Here is the model description: Applications: AppId, AppName, ServerId Servers: ServerId, ServerName The Applicaitons.ServerId is a foreign key reference to Servers.ServerId. The RadGrid lists the applications and allows the user to insert/update/delete an application. I want to show the server names as a dropdownlist in edit mode which I'm not able to. . • Filter sub-categories like in layered navigation

  I created a new template file catalog/category/list.phtml. This is to display all sub categories of the current category. I have layered navigation which is displaying sub-categories as one of the filters, but I want this new template to work with these filters as well. Right now when i click the subcategory filter, it filters all products on the page, but still displays all categories of the parent category. $_filters is how i am trying to access these filters, but i get nothing. • iPhone Keyboard hiding fields in UIWebView

  Hi, I am a beginner at iPhone development and am hoping someone can help me with my question. I have a UIWebView displaying a web page. If the user taps inside a textbox on the web page then the keyboard pops up. This is great, but it hides the field that the user tapped on. I have looked around and found code samples to deal with this, but none that specifically deal with the UIWebView. I have implemented UIKeyboardDidShowNotification and UIKeyboardDidHideNotification but am not sure how to resize the UIWebView properly. I have tried putting the UIWebView in a UIScrollView but not had any success with that.   I have a UIView with another UIView inside it. On the inside UIView there is a textbox which I want to fill in. When I try to fill it in the keyboard blocks my view: The UIViewController has the following containerView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:[UIScreen mainScreen].bounds]; self.view=containerView; //The apropriate releases etc are further on... When I touch it, the keyboard comes up as expected, but blocks the textbox I'm trying to fill in. How can I force the view to slide up?   I intend to use a small form factor PC with Windows 7 Professional installed as a network appliance attached directly to my customer's LAN without connecting a monitor, keyboard or mouse. How should I configure the networking for my PC so that I can access it via say my laptop? I figure that I can do it 2 ways. Attach my laptop to the PC using a crossover cable? Connect via RDP and configure networking. Configure an IP address on the PC before I deliver it to the customer place. At the customer's place, attach the PC to LAN and connect to the IP address which I previously configured from my laptop or from one of the customer's workstations. I know the first way is doable, but is the second way possible? I'm sorry if this question sounds ridiculous - I am Delphi programmer but a novice on networking. Finally, if possible, I hope to make the configuration process web based as I wouldn't like to reveal the fact that I am using Win7 Pro for the network appliance!

• Ubuntu odd mouse and keyboard behavior when window gains inner focus

  This morning on my Ubuntu 10.10 system when I open a window - for example, system-preferences-about me, if I click in to a field such as "work email", I can no longer close the window with the mouse! Clicking the X on the window will not work. Also, I loose the ability to click on anything else - clicking on the desktop, icons, menus, workspaces, etc. do not work. Even the effect when you hover over a folder on the desktop and that folder highlights - that stops until the window is closed. If I open this same screen but do not click in to a field, everything is fine - I can close the window with the X and everything else works fine. Same thing happens with several other windows I tried. Even calculator - I can open it, everything is fine until I click on a button in the calculator - then no ability to click on anything else. Have to Alt-F4 to close the window. The system is only about a week old from a fresh install (64 bit ubuntu - quad core amd machine). I uninstalled wine, turned off remote desktop/disabled in startup, also in startup disabled visual assistance, bluetooth, dropbox, klipper. Reboot, no difference. The only other thing non-standard I see in startup is nvidia. Using a logitec usb mouse, saitek usb keyboard. Was working fine yesterday. I can not think of anything I did / installed yesterday. I switched themse, then went to update manager and saw two x server / x org related updates and installed them, reboot and NOW IT IS FINE! However, then I re-enabled dropbox, klipper and remote desktop rebooted and the problem is back. Again I disabled and rebooted. Problem is still there!! So somehow I fixed it at least for a few minutes, but now it is back and I am out of ideas.

• Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center - Slow response for App-specific shortcuts

  So a few months ago, I bought a new MS mouse, and was surprised that they'd discontinued Intellipoint in favor of this Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center. It seems to have the same functionality underneath all the bloat, but there's a very serious drawback - when I set up application-specific functions for the extra buttons on the mouse, they work, but sometimes with a very long delay, like up to a minute or more. For example, I often set up the left side button as an "Undo" in various programs for convenience. But sometimes, when I try to use that Undo button, nothing happens, so I'm forced to use the standard Ctrl-Z or whatever. But then, a minute or so later, it suddenly remembers that I hit that button a while back, and calls the Undo unexpectedly on something entirely different. It's infuriating. No modern computer function should be this slow. It's not the software or the computer itself, because doing an Undo via Ctrl-Z or the menu still works instantly. It's very definitely a side-effect of delayed response to the mouse button. Usually after it delays the first time, it'll work quickly after that, but if you haven't used a given shortcut in several minutes, it "forgets" again and you get another inexplicably long delay. Intellipoint never had this problem, but it's not supported any more, and not compatible with the newer mice. Has anyone else noticed slow-downs with MS M&K C and app-specific shortcuts? Any ideas how to get around this? I use these shortcuts extensively in my workflow and it's just entirely unacceptable to have such a long delay in what should be a pretty basic feature.

• Multiple Screen - Keyboard Sharing

  I run a small architectural firm with several drafters employed, I'm currently setting up a new office space and one of the things on top of my list is a figuring out a way to keep tabs on my drafters work and being able to collaborate in real time. Here's the challenge, they sit in a separate large cubicle room and I'm on the other end of the hallway, the way it is now; every time they’ve got some question on how to proceed on a certain design, they would come all the way to my office, I'd open their file (in read only) give some ideas, save-as new file, they go back copy paste... in short, nonsense. What I've been thinking of is to setup a hardwired solution that should enable me to have an extra monitor on my desktop which is hardwired (through KVM or something) to each of my employees workstations serving as a secondary display, so that I can watch live what they do, interact with them just as if they would have an extra keyboard and monitor in my office, except; I don’t want to have on my desk a separate monitor for each employee.. so I'd want them to be tiled on a single large screen, watching all screens alive, and whenever they ask me (or I just decide..) to step in, I just click on any tile and hurray, I'm in, editing and saving in real time on their workstation. I also want to reserve the option when I want to, to just use that monitor as just an extra screen for my workstation. Is something like that possible in 2013? P.S. I know of TeamViewer and similar internet/software based stuff, but I'm specifically looking for something solid hardwired and maintenance free, and also something that would allow to watch without my employees getting notified every time I do so (I’m not a tough boss though...).

• How to: Simulating keystroke inputs in shell to an app running in an embedded target

  I am writing an automation script that runs on an embedded linux target. A part of the script involves running an app on the target and obtaining some data from the stdout. Stdout here is the ssh terminal connection I have to the target. However, this data is available on the stdout only if certain keys are pressed and the key press has to be done on the keyboard connected to the embedded target and not on the host system from which I have ssh'd into the target. Is there any way to simulate this? Edit: Elaborating on what I need - I have an OpenGL app that I run on the embedded linux (works like regular linux) target. This displays some graphics on the embedded system's display device. Pressing f on the keyboard connected to the target outputs the fps data onto the ssh terminal from which I control the target. Since I am automating the process of running this OpenGL app and obtaining the fps scores, I can't expect a keyboard to be connected to the target let alone expect a user to input a keystroke on the embedded target keyboard. How do I go about this? Thanks.

• assign characters to key combinations in XP or Visual Studio .Net

  I'm running Mac OSX on a MacBookPro (UK keyboard). I run windows XP under parallels in a VM. I run Visual Studio .Net 2003 and 2008 in XP in the VM when i need to. I have English United Kingdom and English United states keyboards setup in XP. (they switch sometimes for no apparent reason) There is no hash "#" key on my mac's keyboard. However, in OSX I can get a hash with an alt+3 key combination. But In Windows XP... I can not make a "#" character. I can go to the character map in windows and copy a hash.. switch into OSX and copy a hash.. search in code and copy a hash.. but I can not make a hash in XP using my keyboard without typing U+0023: ... which you can imagine is annoying. coding anything with hash symbols is becoming a choir. Anyone got any advice or key mapping tricks I can use to get hash characters working in XP using my mac UK keyboard?

• MVVM - Master/Detail scenario with Navigation and Blendability

  Hi, I'll start off with what I want so it may be simpler to understand: I have a Page (Master.xaml) that has has a listbox of PersonViewModel. When the user selects a PersonViewModel from the listbox, I want to Navigate to a details (Details.xaml) page of the selected PersonViewModel. The details page does some extra heavy lifting that I only want done once the user navigates to the page. (I don't want too much stuff loaded in each PersonViewModel of the master listbox) So how do you guys handle master/detail scenarios with navigation while maintaining "blendability"? I've been turing in circles for the past week. there seems to be no clean solution for something that should be quite common?

• OSX esc key stops working (randomly)

  I have a 2011 macbook Air with OS X Mountain Lion (I've upgraded from Lion). And ever since upgrading my escape key randomly stops working. And it's not that the keyboard on the laptop would be damaged as the same happens if I use apple's bluetooth keyboard. So I'm guessing it's a software issue. Also in some cases pressing ctrl+esc achieves the same thing as just esc so I'm 100% it's not a hardware problem. Does anybody have any idea what this might be all about and how to fix it? edit: the escape key stops working completely but it starts working again after I restart the computer. edit2: this usually happens after the computer wakes from sleep. So it's not like that is just stopps working in the middle of using it, but rather after I put it to sleep (or just close the lid) and then open it again. Has nobody got the same issue? Is there a better place to ask OSX related questions than SuperUser maybe?

• Empty "Groups" in People Picker Navigation Controller

  I'm using the standard People Picker Navigation Controller to let users associate one of their contacts with one of my objects. It presents itself as a long list of ALL contacts. The back button (top left) says "Groups" but when clicked on it shows an empty screen...even when there are many Groups in the user's address book. I've read through the docs and can't seem to find how to populate the Groups area. Here's how I present the people picker. • Popover with embedded navigation controller doesn't respect size on back nav

  I have a UIPopoverController hosting a UINavigationController, which contains a small hierarchy of view controllers. I followed the docs and for each view controller, I set the view's popover-context size like so: [self setContentSizeForViewInPopover:CGSizeMake(320, 500)]; (size different for each controller) This works as expected as I navigate forward in the hierarchy-- the popover automatically animates size changes to correspond to the pushed controller. However, when I navigate "Back" through the view stack via the navigation bar's Back button, the popover doesn't change size-- it remains as large as the deepest view reached. This seems broken to me; I'd expect the popover to respect the sizes that are set up as it pops through the view stack. Am I missing something? Thanks.
