  • Is there a phrase or word to describe an algorithim or programme is complete in that given any value for its arguments there is a predictable outcome?

    - by Mrk Mnl
Is there a phrase to describe an algorithim or programme is complete in that given any possible value for its arguments there is a predicatable outcome? i.e. all the ramifications have been considered whatever the context? A simple example would be the below function: function returns string get_item_type(int type_no) { if(type_no < 10) return "hockey stick" else if (type_no < 20) return "bulldozer" else return "unknown" } (excuse the dismal pseudo code) No matter what number is supplied all possibiblites are catered for. My question is: is there a word to fill the blank here: "get_item_type() is ______ complete" ? (The answer is not Turing Complete - that is something quite different - but I annoyingly always think of something as "Turing Complete" when I am thinking of the above).

  • How do I create a partial function with generics in scala?

    - by Matteo Caprari
Hello. I'm trying to write a performance measurements library for Scala. My idea is to transparently 'mark' sections so that the execution time can be collected. Unfortunately I wasn't able to bend the compiler to my will. An admittedly contrived example of what I have in mind: // generate a timing function val myTimer = mkTimer('myTimer) // see how the timing function returns the right type depending on the // type of the function it is passed to it val act = actor { loop { receive { case 'Int => val calc = myTimer { (1 to 100000).sum } val result = calc + 10 // calc must be Int self reply (result) case 'String => val calc = myTimer { (1 to 100000).mkString } val result = calc + " String" // calc must be String self reply (result) } Now, this is the farthest I got: trait Timing { def time[T <: Any](name: Symbol)(op: => T) :T = { val start = System.nanoTime val result = op val elapsed = System.nanoTime - start println(name + ": " + elapsed) result } def mkTimer[T <: Any](name: Symbol) : (() => T) => () => T = { type c = () => T time(name)(_ : c) } } Using the time function directly works and the compiler correctly uses the return type of the anonymous function to type the 'time' function: val bigString = time('timerBigString) { (1 to 100000).mkString("-") } println (bigString) Great as it seems, this pattern has a number of shortcomings: forces the user to reuse the same symbol at each invocation makes it more difficult to do more advanced stuff like predefined project-level timers does not allow the library to initialize once a data structure for 'timerBigString So here it comes mkTimer, that would allow me to partially apply the time function and reuse it. I use mkTimer like this: val myTimer = mkTimer('aTimer) val myString= myTimer { (1 to 100000).mkString("-") } println (myString) But I get a compiler error: error: type mismatch; found : String required: () => Nothing (1 to 100000).mkString("-") I get the same error if I inline the currying: val timerBigString = time('timerBigString) _ val bigString = timerBigString { (1 to 100000).mkString("-") } println (bigString) This works if I do val timerBigString = time('timerBigString) (_: String), but this is not what I want. I'd like to defer typing of the partially applied function until application. I conclude that the compiler is deciding the return type of the partial function when I first create it, chosing "Nothing" because it can't make a better informed choice. So I guess what I'm looking for is a sort of late-binding of the partially applied function. Is there any way to do this? Or maybe is there a completely different path I could follow? Well, thanks for reading this far -teo

  • How to update the session values on partial post back and how to make Javascript use the new values

    - by Mano
The problem I am facing is the I am passing values to javascript to draw a graph using session values in the code behind. When page loads it take the value from the session and creates the graph, when I do partial post back using a Update Panel and Timer, I call the method to add values to the session and it does it. public void messsagePercentStats(object sender, EventArgs args) { ... if (value >= lowtarg && value < Toptarg) { vProgressColor = "'#eaa600'"; } else if (value >= Toptarg) { vProgressColor = "'#86cf21'"; } Session.Add("vProgressColor", vProgressColor); Session.Add("vProgressPercentage", "["+value+"],["+remaining+"]"); } } I use the update panel to call the above method <asp:ScriptManager ID="smCharts" runat="server" /> <asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="Holder" OnLoad="messsagePercentStats" UpdateMode="Conditional"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:Timer ID="Timer1" runat="server" Interval="5000" OnTick="Timer_Tick" /> and the timer_tick method is executed every 5 seconds protected void Timer_Tick(object sender, EventArgs args) { ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, this.GetType(), "key", "r.init();", true); ResponseMetric rm = new ResponseMetric(); Holder.Update(); } I use ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, this.GetType(), "key", "r.init();", true); to call the r.init() Java script method to draw the graph on post back and it works fine. Java Script: var r = { init : function(){ r = Raphael("pie"), data2 = [<%= Session["vProgressPercentage"] %>]; axisx = ["10%", "20%"]; r.g.txtattr.font = "12px 'Fontin Sans', Fontin-Sans, sans-serif"; r.g.barchart(80, 25, 100, 320, data2, { stacked: true, colors: [<%= Session["vProgressColor"] %>,'#fff'] }); axis2 = r.g.axis(94, 325, 280, 0, 100, 10, 1); } } window.onload = function () { r.init(); }; This Java Script is not getting the new value from the session, it uses the old value when the page was loaded. How can I change the code to make sure the JS uses the latest session value.

  • How to generate a unique hash for a URL ?

    - by Jacques René Mesrine
Given these two images from twitter. http://a3.twimg.com/profile_images/130500759/lowres_profilepic.jpg http://a1.twimg.com/profile_images/58079916/lowres_profilepic.jpg I want to download them to local filesystem & store them in a single directory. How shall I overcome name conflicts ? In the example above, I cannot store them as *lowres_profilepic.jpg*. My design idea is treat the URLs as opaque strings except for the last segment. What algorithms (implemented as f) can I use to hash the prefixes into unique strings. f( "http://a3.twimg.com/profile_images/130500759/" ) = 6tgjsdjfjdhgf f( "http://a1.twimg.com/profile_images/58079916/" ) = iuhd87ysdfhdk That way, I can save the files as:- 6tgjsdjfjdhgf_lowres_profilepic.jpg iuhd87ysdfhdk_lowres_profilepic.jpg I don't want a cryptographic algorithm as it this needs to be a performant operation.

  • JAVA image transfer problem

    - by user579098
Hi, I have a school assignment, to send a jpg image, split it into groups of 100 bytes, corrupt it, use a CRC check to locate the errors and re-transmit until it eventually is built back into its original form. It's practically ready, however when I check out the new images, they appear with errors.. I would really appreciate if someone could look at my code below and maybe locate this logical mistake as I can't understand what the problem is because everything looks ok :S For the file with all the data needed including photos and error patterns one could download it from this link:http://rapidshare.com/#!download|932tl2|443122762|Data.zip|739 Thanks in advance, Stefan p.s dont forget to change the paths in the code for the image and error files package networks; import java.io.*; // for file reader import java.util.zip.CRC32; // CRC32 IEEE (Ethernet) public class Main { /** * Reads a whole file into an array of bytes. * @param file The file in question. * @return Array of bytes containing file data. * @throws IOException Message contains why it failed. */ public static byte[] readFileArray(File file) throws IOException { InputStream is = new FileInputStream(file); byte[] data=new byte[(int)file.length()]; is.read(data); is.close(); return data; } /** * Writes (or overwrites if exists) a file with data from an array of bytes. * @param file The file in question. * @param data Array of bytes containing the new file data. * @throws IOException Message contains why it failed. */ public static void writeFileArray(File file, byte[] data) throws IOException { OutputStream os = new FileOutputStream(file, false); os.write(data); os.close(); } /** * Converts a long value to an array of bytes. * @param data The target variable. * @return Byte array conversion of data. * @see http://www.daniweb.com/code/snippet216874.html */ public static byte[] toByta(long data) { return new byte[] { (byte)((data >> 56) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 48) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 40) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 32) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 24) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 16) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 8) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 0) & 0xff), }; } /** * Converts a an array of bytes to long value. * @param data The target variable. * @return Long value conversion of data. * @see http://www.daniweb.com/code/snippet216874.html */ public static long toLong(byte[] data) { if (data == null || data.length != 8) return 0x0; return (long)( // (Below) convert to longs before shift because digits // are lost with ints beyond the 32-bit limit (long)(0xff & data[0]) << 56 | (long)(0xff & data[1]) << 48 | (long)(0xff & data[2]) << 40 | (long)(0xff & data[3]) << 32 | (long)(0xff & data[4]) << 24 | (long)(0xff & data[5]) << 16 | (long)(0xff & data[6]) << 8 | (long)(0xff & data[7]) << 0 ); } public static byte[] nextNoise(){ byte[] result=new byte[100]; // copy a frame's worth of data (or remaining data if it is less than frame length) int read=Math.min(err_data.length-err_pstn, 100); System.arraycopy(err_data, err_pstn, result, 0, read); // if read data is less than frame length, reset position and add remaining data if(read<100){ err_pstn=100-read; System.arraycopy(err_data, 0, result, read, err_pstn); }else // otherwise, increase position err_pstn+=100; // return noise segment return result; } /** * Given some original data, it is purposefully corrupted according to a * second data array (which is read from a file). • Changing a form's action attribute in IE?

    - by Jonatan Littke
Hey. I'm trying to set a hash value in a form's action, to keep it when the form is submitted. Firefox allows me to update the hash and redirects accordingly, but IE doesn't. I initially thought this was related to IE not allowing hash values in the action attribute at all, but it seems I can't dynamically set the action at all in IE - with a hash or not? Is that right? I'm using the following jQuery: $("#options-form").attr('action', '#' + hash); To update: <form id="options-form" action="" method="get"> (On a sidenote, this wasn't needed in Firefox, because FF appears to preserve the current hash if it was only the GET params that changed.)

  • Why am I getting unexpected output trying to write a hash structure to a file?

    - by Harm De Weirdt
I have a hash in which I store the products a customer buys (%orders). It uses the product code as key and has a reference to an array with the other info as value. At the end of the program, I have to rewrite the inventory to the updated version (i.e. subtract the quantity of the bought items) This is how I do rewrite the inventory: sub rewriteInventory{ open(FILE,'>inv.txt'); foreach $key(%inventory){ print FILE "$key\|$inventory{$key}[0]\|$inventory{$key}[1]\|$inventory{$key}[2]\n" } close(FILE); } where $inventory{$key}[x] is 0 → Title, 1 → price, 2 → quantity. The problem here is that when I look at inv.txt afterwards, I see things like this: CD-911|Lady Gaga - The Fame|15.99|21 ARRAY(0x145030c)||| BOOK-1453|The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown|14.75|12 ARRAY(0x145bee4)||| Where do these ARRAY(0x145030c)||| entries come from? Or more important, how do I get rid of them?

  • does mysql stored procedures support data types like array, hash, etc?

    - by Yang
i am creating a mysql function which takes in a varchar and change it to a int based on a mapping table. select name, convert_to_code(country) from users where sex = 'male' here, the convert_to_code() function takes in a country name (e.g. Japan, Finland..) and change it to country code which is an integer (e.g. 1001, 2310..) based on a mapping table called country_maping like below: country_name (varchar) | country_code (int) Japan | 1001 Finland | 2310 Canada | 8756 currently, the stored function need to select country_code from country_mapping where country_name = country_name and return the query result. is that possible to create a hash data struct in SP to optimize the process so that it will not need to perform the query for each row matches the where clause. thanks in advance!

  • How to debug/reformat C printf calls with lots of arguments in vim?

    - by Costi
I have a function call in a program that I'm maintaining has 28 arguments for a printf call. It's printing a lot of data in a CSV file. I have problems following finding where what goes and I have some mismatches in the parameters types. I enabled -Wall in gcc and I get warnings like: n.c:495: warning: int format, pointer arg (arg 15) n.c:495: warning: format argument is not a pointer (arg 16) n.c:495: warning: double format, pointer arg (arg 23) The function is like this: fprintf (ConvFilePtr, "\"FORMAT3\"%s%04d%s%04d%s%s%s%d%s%c%s%d%c%s%s%s%s%s%s%s%11.lf%s%11.lf%s%11.lf%s%d\n", some_28_arguments_go_here); I would like to know if there is a vim plugin that highlights the printf format specifier when i go with the cursor over a variable. Other solutions? How to better reformat the code to make it more readable?

  • Interesting AS3 hash situation. Is it really using strict equality as the documentation says?

    - by Triynko
AS3 Code: import flash.utils.Dictionary; var num1:Number = Number.NaN; var num2:Number = Math.sqrt(-1); var dic:Dictionary = new Dictionary( true ); trace(num1); //NaN trace(num2); //NaN dic[num1] = "A"; trace( num1 == num2 ); //false trace( num1 === num2 ); //false trace( dic[num1] ); //A trace( dic[num2] ); //A Concerning the key comparison method... "The Dictionary class lets you create a dynamic collection of properties, which uses strict equality (===) for key comparison. When an object is used as a key, the object's identity is used to look up the object, and not the value returned from calling toString() on it." If Dictionary uses strict equality, as the documentation states, then how is it that num1 === num2 is false, and yet dic[num1] resolves to the same hash slot as dic[num2]?

  • Why was the arguments.callee.caller property deprecated in JavaScript?

    - by pcorcoran
Why was the arguments.callee.caller property deprecated in JavaScript? It was added and then deprecated in JavaScript, but it was omitted altogether by ECMAScript. Some browser (Mozilla, IE) have always supported it and don't have any plans on the map to remove support. Others (Safari, Opera) have adopted support for it, but support on older browsers is unreliable. Is there a good reason to put this valuable functionality in limbo? (Or alternately, is there a better way to grab a handle on the calling function?)

  • Create function in python to find the highest of all function arguments, and return the "tag" of the value.

    - by gatechgrad
Consider the following: p1=1; p2=5; p3=7; highest=max(p1,p2,p3). The max function would return 7. I am looking to create a similar function, which would return "p3". I have created a small function (by simple comparisons) for the above example, shown below. however I am having trouble when the number of arguments go up. def highest(p1,p2,p3) if (p1p2) and (p1p3): return "p1" if (p2p1) and (p2p3): return "p2" if (p3p1) and (p3p1): return "p3". Is there a simpler way to do this

  • Pass Types as arguments to a function in Haskell?

    - by Charles Peng
The following two functions are extremely similar. They read from a [String] n elements, either [Int] or [Float]. How can I factor the common code out? I don't know of any mechanism in Haskell that supports passing types as arguments. readInts n stream = foldl next ([], stream) [1..n] where next (lst, x:xs) _ = (lst ++ [v], xs) where v = read x :: Int readFloats n stream = foldl next ([], stream) [1..n] where next (lst, x:xs) _ = (lst ++ [v], xs) where v = read x :: Float I am at a beginner level of Haskell, so any comments on my code are welcome.

  • Issues running python scripts in Command Prompt (Specifically with command line arguments)?

    - by dmanatunga
I am trying to run my python scripts in DOS without calling python.exe first. I am specifically doing this in relation to running django-admin.py. I have C:\Python26 and C:\Python26\Scripts in my PATH. However, if I try running django-admin.py by doing: django-admin.py startproject helloworld I get the message: Type 'django-admin.py help' for usage. Now, after some experimentation, I realized the problem is that the secondary arguments to these scripts are not being passed for some reason, since I tried it with a some other python scripts I have. I know I could avoid this problem by simply doing: python C:\Python26\Scripts\django-admin.py startproject helloworld But I know it should be possible to run the first command only and get it to work, because I had it working before. I've looked everywhere, and not many places have been helpful so any idea would be useful for me at this point.

  • Can fields of the class and arguments of the method interfere?

    - by Roman
I have a class with a fields called "a". In the class I have a method and in the list of arguments of this method I also have "a". So, which "a" I will see inside of the method? Will it be the field or it will be the argument of the method? public class myClass { private String a; // Method which sets the value of the field "a". public void setA(String a) { a = a; } } By the way, there is a similar situation. A method has some local (for method) variables whose names coincide with the names of the fields. What will the "see" the method if I refer to such a method-local variable inside the method (the field or the local variable)?

  • Rails 3 render :partials

    - by user297221
Hi guys. I am migrating my 1.8.7 rails app to rails 3. But I have a problem with a partial: I have the following partial: in my cms controller : @clients = Client.all group = render_to_string :layout = 'layouts/window', :partial = 'clients/index' in my "clients/index" partial: <%= render :partial = 'clients/item', :collection = @clients % This worked great with rails 1.7.8 but with rails 3 only the partial in the index get's rendered!. So, to clarify this, the group variable in the controller doesn't get the html from the layout. Also the weird thing is that the window layout is _window.erb (if I do window.html.erb or just window.erb rails can't find it which is strange). Does anybody know if this behavior is normal for rails 3? thanxs!

  • Generate a commutative hash based on three sets of numbers?

    - by DarkAmgine
    I need to generate a commutative hash based on three sets of "score" structs. Each score has a "start", an "end" and a "number". Both start and end are usually huge numbers (8-9 digits) but number is just from 1 to 4. I need them to be commutative so the order does not matter. I'm using XOR at the moment but it seems to be giving bad results. Since I'm working with large large datasets, I'd prefer a performance-friendly solution. Any suggestions?     Browsing google's guava collect library code, I've found the following: // Casting to any type is safe because the list will never hold any elements. @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of() { return (ImmutableList<E>) EmptyImmutableList.INSTANCE; } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of(E element) { return new SingletonImmutableList<E>(element); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of(E e1, E e2) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>( ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList(e1, e2)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of(E e1, E e2, E e3) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>( ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList(e1, e2, e3)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of(E e1, E e2, E e3, E e4) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>( ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList(e1, e2, e3, e4)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of(E e1, E e2, E e3, E e4, E e5) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>( ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList(e1, e2, e3, e4, e5)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of(E e1, E e2, E e3, E e4, E e5, E e6) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>( ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList(e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of( E e1, E e2, E e3, E e4, E e5, E e6, E e7) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>( ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList(e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6, e7)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of( E e1, E e2, E e3, E e4, E e5, E e6, E e7, E e8) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>( ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList(e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6, e7, e8)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of( E e1, E e2, E e3, E e4, E e5, E e6, E e7, E e8, E e9) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>( ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList(e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6, e7, e8, e9)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of( E e1, E e2, E e3, E e4, E e5, E e6, E e7, E e8, E e9, E e10) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>(ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList( e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6, e7, e8, e9, e10)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of( E e1, E e2, E e3, E e4, E e5, E e6, E e7, E e8, E e9, E e10, E e11) { return new RegularImmutableList<E>(ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList( e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6, e7, e8, e9, e10, e11)); } public static <E> ImmutableList<E> of( E e1, E e2, E e3, E e4, E e5, E e6, E e7, E e8, E e9, E e10, E e11, E e12, E... others) { final int paramCount = 12; Object[] array = new Object[paramCount + others.length]; arrayCopy(array, 0, e1, e2, e3, e4, e5, e6, e7, e8, e9, e10, e11, e12); arrayCopy(array, paramCount, others); return new RegularImmutableList<E>(ImmutableList.<E>nullCheckedList(array)); } And although it seems reasonable to have overloads for empty and single arguments (as they are going to use special instances), I cannot see the reason behind having all the others, when just the last one (with two fixed arguments plus the variable argument instead the dozen) seems to be enough. As I'm writing, one explanation that pops into my head is that the API pre-dates Java 1.5; and although the signatures would be source-level compatible, the binary interface would differ. Isn't it?

  • Why does the Scala compiler disallow overloaded methods with default arguments?

    - by soc
While there might be valid cases where such method overloadings could become ambiguous, why does the compiler disallow code which is neither ambiguous at compile time nor at run time? Example: // This fails: def foo(a: String)(b: Int = 42) = a + b def foo(a: Int) (b: Int = 42) = a + b // This fails, too. Even if there is no position in the argument list, // where the types are the same. def foo(a: Int) (b: Int = 42) = a + b def foo(a: String)(b: String = "Foo") = a + b // This is OK: def foo(a: String)(b: Int) = a + b def foo(a: Int) (b: Int = 42) = a + b // Even this is OK. def foo(a: Int)(b: Int) = a + b def foo(a: Int)(b: String = "Foo") = a + b val bar = foo(42)_ // This complains obviously ... Are there any reasons why these restrictions can't be loosened a bit? Especially when converting heavily overloaded Java code to Scala default arguments are a very important and it isn't nice to find out after replacing plenty of Java methods by one Scala methods that the spec/compiler imposes arbitrary restrictions.

  • How would one call std::forward on all arguments in a variadic function?

    - by Noah Roberts
I was just writing a generic object factory and using the boost preprocessor meta-library to make a variadic template (using 2010 and it doesn't support them). My function uses rval references and std::forward to do perfect forwarding and it got me thinking...when C++0X comes out and I had a standard compiler I would do this with real variadic templates. How though, would I call std::forward on the arguments? template < typename ... Params void f(Params ... params) // how do I say these are rvalue reference? { y(std::forward(...params)); //? - I doubt this would work. } Only way I can think of would require manual unpacking of ...params and I'm not quite there yet either. Is there a quicker syntax that would work?

  • How to test that invalid arguments raise an ArgumentError exception using RSpec?

    - by John Topley
I'm writing a RubyGem that can raise an ArgumentError if the arguments supplied to its single method are invalid. How can I write a test for this using RSpec? The example below shows the sort of implementation I have in mind. The bar method expects a single boolean argument (:baz), the type of which is checked to make sure that it actually is a boolean: module Foo def self.bar(options = {}) baz = options.fetch(:baz, true) validate_arguments(baz) end def self.validate_arguments(baz) raise(ArgumentError, ":baz must be a boolean") unless valid_baz?(baz) end def self.valid_baz?(baz) baz.is_a?(TrueClass) || baz.is_a?(FalseClass) end end

  • Specifying a Postfix Instance to send outbound email

    - by Catherine Jefferson
I have a CentOS 6.5 server running Postfix 2.6x (the default distribution) with five public IPv4 IPs bound to it. Each IP has DNS and rDNS set separately. Each uses a different hostname at a different domain. I have five Postfix instances, one bound to each IP, like this example: 192.168.34.104 red.example.com /etc/postfix 192.168.36.48 green.example.net /etc/postfix-green 192.168.36.49 pink.example.org /etc/postfix-pink 192.168.36.50 orange.example.info /etc/postfix-orange 192.168.36.51 blue.example.us /etc/postfix-blue I've tested each IP by telneting to port 25. Postfix answers and banners properly with the correct hostname. Email is received on all of these instances with no problems and is routed to the correct place. This setup, minus the final instance, has existed for a couple of years and works. I never bothered to set up outbound email to go through any but the main instance, however; there was no need. Now I need to send email from blue.example.us that actually leaves from that interface and IP, such that the Received headers show blue.example.us as the sending mailhost, so that SPF and DKIM validate, etc etc. The email that will be sent from blue.example.com is a feedback loop sent by a single shell account on the server (account5), an account that is dedicated to sending this email. The account receives the feedback loop emails from servers on other networks, saves the bodies of those emails, and then generates a new outbound email header, appends the saved body, and sends the email. It's sending by piping each email to sendmail -oi -t. We're doing it this way to mask the identities of the initial servers. The procmail script that processes these emails works correctly. However, I cannot configure this account to send email through the proper Postfix instance/IP/interface. The exact same account and script sends email through the main Postfix instance /etc/postfix without any issues. When I change MAIL_CONFIG to point to /etc/postfix-blue in either .bash_profile or the Procmail script that handles this email, though, I get this error: sendmail: fatal: User account5(###) is not allowed to submit mail I've read the manuals on Postfix.org, searched Google, and tried the suggestions in three previous answers here on ServerFault.com: Postfix - specify interface to deliver outbound mail on Postfix user is not allowed to submit mail Postfix rejects php mails I have been careful to stop and restart Postfix after each configuration change, and tested the results. Nothing has worked. The main postfix instance happily accepts outbound email from account5. The postfix-blue instance continues to reject email from account5 with the sendmail error above. As tempting as it is to blame machine hostility, I know that I must be missing something or doing something wrong. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what it might be? Please feel free to ask for further information about my setup if you need it. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= At the request of the responder, here are main.cf and master.cf for a) the main postfix instance ("red.example.com") and b) the FBL instance ("blue.example.us") [NOTE: All parameters not specified below were left at the default Postfix 2.6 settings] MAIN: master.cf smtp inet n - n - - smtpd main.cf myhostname = red.example.com mydomain = example.com inet_interfaces = $myhostname, localhost inet_protocols = all lmtp_host_lookup = native smtp_host_lookup = native ignore_mx_lookup_error = yes mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost local_recipient_maps = mynetworks = 192.168.34.104/32 relay_domains = example.com, example.info, example.net, example.org, example.us relayhost = [192.168.34.102] # Separate physical server, main mailserver. relay_recipient_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/relay_recipients alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name multi_instance_wrapper = ${command_directory}/postmulti -p -- multi_instance_enable = yes multi_instance_directories = /etc/postfix-green /etc/postfix-pink /etc/postfix-orange /etc/postfix-blue FBL: master.cf 184.173.119.103:25 inet n - n - - smtpd main.cf myhostname = blue.example.us mydomain = blue.example.us <= Deliberately set to subdomain only. myorigin = $mydomain inet_interfaces = $myhostname lmtp_host_lookup = native smtp_host_lookup = native ignore_mx_lookup_error = yes mydestination = $myhostname local_recipient_maps = unix:passwd.byname $alias_maps $virtual_alias_maps mynetworks = 192.168.36.51/32, 192.168.35.20/31 <= Second IP is backup MX servers relay_domains = $mydestination recipient_canonical_maps = hash:/etc/postfix-blue/canonical virtual_alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix-fbl/virtual alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases, hash:/etc/postfix-blue/canonical alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases, hash:/etc/postfix-blue/canonical mailbox_command = /usr/bin/procmail -a "$EXTENSION" DEFAULT=$HOME/Mail/ MAILDIR=$HOME/Mail smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name authorized_submit_users = multi_instance_name = postfix-blue multi_instance_enable = yes
