  • FTP blocked by firewall on windows 8.1 update 1 public network

    - by amik
    I've recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 u1. I connect to VPN to one of my projects, over which I connect to FTP server (using Total Commander 8.51a). Now, when I try to connect, Total Commander hangs on "Download" (in case of passive connection on "PASV" command). I've figured out that the problem is somehow caused by firewall, because it works if I disable firewall or I set the VPN network location to "private" (which I don't want, it is not enough trusted network for me) I tried to add total commander to firewall exception for total commander, both to inbound and outbound rule, but with no success. I have no more ideas how to configure the firewall to make FTP work properly, can you plese help me? thanks in advance.

  • recommendations for public facing file server

    - by Seaweed
    I've been asked to setup a server for exchanging non-critical company data e.g. marketing PDF's etc. Can anyone recommend a Linux-based solution I can use? We're looking for something with a really simple GUI front end here... I've already setup SFTP but they found the process 'too-techy'. Any ideas would be really welcome... Thanks!

  • Incoming traffic while on public network

    - by zvikico
    I'm developing a web app and I need to be able to get incoming traffic from 3rd party services I use. This is a classic webhooks situation: I send a request with a return address and receive the response (via HTTP) some time later to the given address. The simple solution would be to provide my external IP address and forward the incoming traffic from the router to my machine. However, I'm working in a large office and I cannot control the router configuration. I'm looking for a different way to achieve that. I do have servers online. I can have a daemon running on one of those servers, which will handle the incoming traffic. I can run a parallel daemon on my machine, which will keep an open connection with the remote daemon (over ssh preferred) and when an inbound traffic is received by the remote, it will send it to the local, which will send it to the correct port on my machine, as if it was received in the natural way. Is there any ready-made solution for that? PS. I'm on OS X and my server is Ubuntu. Thanks, zvikico

  • How to present a stable data model in a public API that allows internal data structures to be changed without breaking the public view of the data?

    - by Max Palmer
    I am in the process of developing an application that allows users to write C# scripts. These scripts allow users to call selected methods and to access and manipulate data in a document. This works well, however, in the development version, scripts access the document's (internal) data structures directly. This means that if we were to change the internal data model/structure, there is a good chance that someone's script will no longer compile. We obviously want to prevent this breaking change from happening, but still want to allow the user to write sensible C# code (whilst not restricting how we develop our internal data model as a result). We therefore need to decouple our scripting API and its data structures from our internal methods and data structures. We've a few ideas as to how we might allow the user to access a what is effectively a stable public version of the document's internal data*, but I wanted to throw the question out there to someone who might have some real experience of this problem. NB our internal document's data structure is quite complex and it could be quite difficult to wrap. We know we want to expose as little as possible in our public API, especially as once it's out there, it's out there for good. Can anyone help? How do scripting languages / APIs decouple their public API and data structures from their internal data structures? Is there no real alternative to having to write a complex interaction layer? If we need to do this, what's a good approach or pattern for wrapping complex data structures that include nested objects, including collections? I've looked at the API facade pattern, which looks like it's trying to address these kinds of issues, but are there alternatives? *One idea is to build a data facade that is kept stable across versions of our application. The facade exposes a set of facade data objects that are used in the script code. These maintain backwards compatibility and wrap access to our internal document's data model.

  • Dependency Inversion Principle

    - by Chris Paine
    I have been studying also S.O.L.I.D. and watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huEEkx5P5Hs 01:45:30 into the video he talks about the Dependency Inversion Principle and I am scratching my head??? I had to simplify it(if possible) to get it through this thick scull of mine and here is what I came up with. Code on the marked My_modified_code my version, code marked Original DIP video version. Can I accomplish the same with the latter code? Thanks in advance. Original: namespace simple.main { class main { static void Main() { FirstClass FirstClass = new FirstClass(new OtherClass()); FirstClass.Method(); Console.ReadKey(); //tempClass temp = new OtherClass(); //temp.Method(); } } public class FirstClass { private tempClass _LastClass; public FirstClass(tempClass tempClass)//ctor { _LastClass = tempClass; } public void Method() { _LastClass.Method(); } } public abstract class tempClass{public abstract void Method();} public class LASTCLASS : tempClass { public override void Method() { Console.WriteLine("\nHello World!"); } } public class OtherClass : tempClass { public override void Method() { Console.WriteLine("\nOther World!"); } } } My_modified_code: namespace simple.main { class main { static void Main() { //FirstClass FirstClass = new FirstClass(new OtherClass()); //FirstClass.Method(); //Console.ReadKey(); tempClass temp = new OtherClass(); temp.Method(); } } //public class FirstClass //{ // private tempClass _LastClass; // public FirstClass(tempClass tempClass)//ctor // { // _LastClass = tempClass; // } // public void Method() // { // _LastClass.Method(); // } //} public abstract class tempClass{public abstract void Method();} public class LASTCLASS : tempClass { public override void Method() { Console.WriteLine("\nHello World!"); } } public class OtherClass : tempClass { public override void Method() { Console.WriteLine("\nOther World!"); } }

  • Serving static content from cookie less domain and mod_deflate

    - by Saif Bechan
    I have two domain. One domain with my main website and the other with js/css/etc.. files, static content. mod_deflate is enabled for both domains, but when i run ySlow in FireFox it says none of my static content is compressed. When i bring back the js or css file to my normal domain it gets compressed right. Only when its served from the other domain is it not compressed. Do i have to do some more configuration for this to work? I am using this line in my .htaccess file AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-javascript text/css text/html text/xml text/plain application/x-httpd-php I tried to but the line in my httpd.conf file but it gives me the same results. PS. If this is more of a serverfault question i am sorry for this. But i see a lot of questions here concerning mod_deflate and ySlow

  • iPhone: Using static library in an application crashes the device but not the iphone simulator

    - by spin-docta
    I have a library I made, and now I want to utilize it in an application. I've believe I've properly linked to the library. Here are all the things I've done: Set the header search path Set other linker flags to "-ObjC" Added the static library xcode project Made sure the lib.a was listed as a framework target Added the library as a direct dependency Like I said in the title, I've successfully run the app with the static library in the simulator. Once I try testing the app using the device, it crashes the second it has to use a function from the library: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** +[NSDate firstOfCurrentMonth]: unrecognized selector sent to class 0x3841bb44' 2009-10-10 12:45:31.159 Basement[2372:207] Stack:

  • knockout.js bind to static data

    - by MatteS
    whats the suggested way to bind to existing static data? I have to include this in the viewmodel because its used in computed values. http://jsfiddle.net/z2ykC/4/ <div id="sum" data-bind="text: sum"> </div> <div class="line"> dynamic: <span data-bind="text: dynamicValue"></span> static: <span data-bind="text: staticValue">312</span> <button data-bind="click: getDataFromServer">get data</button> </div> <div class="line"> dynamic: <span data-bind="text: dynamicValue"></span> static: <span data-bind="text: staticValue">123</span> <button data-bind="click: getDataFromServer">get data</button> </div> ? function SumViewModel(lines){ this.sum = ko.computed(function(){ var value = 0; $.each(lines, function(index, element){ var staticValue = element.staticValue(); if (staticValue) value += staticValue; var dynamicValue = element.dynamicValue(); if (dynamicValue) value += dynamicValue; value += dynamicValue; }); return value; }); } function LineViewModel() { this.randomNumber = function(max) { return Math.floor((Math.random() * max) + 1); }; this.dynamicValue = ko.observable(0); this.staticValue = ko.observable(); this.getDataFromServer = function() { this.dynamicValue(this.randomNumber(300)); }; }; var lines = []; $('.line').each(function(index, element) { var line = new LineViewModel() //line.staticValue(parseInt($('[data-bind*="staticValue"]', element).text())); lines.push(line); ko.applyBindings(line, element); }); var sum = new SumViewModel(lines); ko.applyBindings(sum, $('#sum')[0]);

  • Is it possible to generate dynamic proxy for static class or static method in C#?

    - by Jeffrey
    I am trying to come up with a way that (either static or instance) method calls can be intercepted by dynamic proxy. I want to implement it as c# extension methods but stuck on how to generate dynamic proxy for static methods. Some usages: Repository.GetAll<T>().CacheForMinutes(10); Repository.GetAll<T>().LogWhenErrorOccurs(); //or var repo = new Repository(); repo.GetAll<T>().CacheForMinutes(10); repo.GetAll<T>().LogWhenErrorOccurs(); I am open to any library (linfu, castle.dynamic proxy 2 or etc). Thanks!

  • Static Javascript files not loaded in Express app

    - by Dave Long
    I have an express app that has a bunch of static javascript files that aren't being loaded even though they are registered in my app.js file. Even public scripts (like jQuery: http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.3/jquery.min.js) aren't processing. I can see the script tags in the generated html, but none of the functionality runs and I can't see the files loading in the web inspector. Here is the code that I have: app.js var express = require('express') var app = module.exports = express.createServer(); // Configuration var port = process.env.PORT || 3000; app.configure(function(){ app.set('views', __dirname + '/views'); app.set('view engine', 'jade'); app.use(express.bodyParser()); app.use(express.methodOverride()); app.use(app.router); app.use(express.static(__dirname + '/public')); }); app.configure('development', function(){ app.use(express.errorHandler({ dumpExceptions: true, showStack: true })); }); app.configure('production', function(){ app.use(express.errorHandler()); }); // Routes app.get('/manage/new', function(req, res){ res.render('manage/new', { title: 'Create a new widget' }); }) app.listen(port); console.log("Express server listening on port %d in %s mode", app.address().port, app.settings.env); /views/manage/layout.jade !!! 5 html(lang="en") head title= title link(rel="stylesheet", href="/stylesheets/demo.css") link(rel="stylesheet", href="/stylesheets/jquery.qtip.css") script(type="text/javascript", href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.3/jquery.min.js") body!= body script(type="text/javascript", href="/javascripts/jquery.formalize.js") script(type="text/javascript", href="/javascripts/jquery.form.js") script(type="text/javascript", href="/javascripts/jquery.qtip.js") script(type="text/javascript", href="/javascripts/formToWizard.js") script(type="text/javascript", href="/javascripts/widget.js") /views/manage/new.jade h1= title div(style="float:left;") form(action="/manage/generate", method="post", enctype="multipart/form-data", name="create-widget") .errors fieldset legend Band / Album Information fieldset legend Social Networks fieldset legend Download All of my javascript files are stored in /public/javascripts and all of my static CSS files are being served up just fine.   • Java static and thread safety or what to do

    - by Parhs
    I am extending a library to do some work for me. Here is the code: public static synchronized String decompile(String source, int flags,UintMap properties,Map<String,String> namesMap) { Decompiler.namesMap=namesMap; String decompiled=decompile(source,flags,properties); Decompiler.namesMap=null; return decompiled; } The problem is that namesMap is static variable. Is that thread safe or not? Because if this code runs concurently namesMap variable may change. What can I do for this?

  • Thoughts on Static Code Analysis Warning CA1806 for TryParse calls

    - by Tim
    I was wondering what people's thoughts were on the CA1806 (DoNotIgnoreMethodResults) Static Code Analysis warning when using FxCop. I have several cases where I use Int32.TryParse to pull in internal configuration information that was saved in a file. I end up with a lot of code that looks like: Int32.TryParse(someString, NumberStyles.Integer, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture, out intResult); MSDN says the default result of intResult is zero if something fails, which is exactly what I want. Unfortunately, this code will trigger CA1806 when performing static code analysis. It seems like a lot of redundant/useless code to fix the errors with something like the following: bool success = Int32.TryParse(someString, NumberStyles.Integer, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture, out intResult); if (!success) { intResult= 0; } Should I suppress this message or bite the bullet and add all this redundant error checking? Or maybe someone has a better idea for handling a case like this? Thanks!

  • Building static nav in concrete5

    - by hollyb
    I've inherited a site built with the CMS concrete5. I'm just starting to dissect it but was hit with a wicked short deadline on a complete overhaul to the nav. So, I want to build out a static nav and then go back when I have more time and integrate it with the auto-nav. Does anybody have experience working with concrete5? If so: Where would I drop my custom static nav? Is it possible to select it from the admin (so that the current one is still available if the client wants to switch back via the admin)? Thanks!

  • Which is better? private static vs private

    - by KiD0M4N
    In this code sample: public class SuperMan { private static bool IsProper(decimal x) { return x > 31.0m && x < 45.0m; } public bool CheckStuff(string a, string b, string c) { // lots of code, some of which introduces a variable x return IsProper(x) && /* other conditions */; } } Should IsProper(..) be a 'private static' or a 'private'. Assuming: IsProper(..) doesn't need to access any instance state.

  • forward declare static function c++

    - by Matthew Scouten
    I want to forward declare a static member function of a class in another file. What I WANT to do looks like this: BigMassiveHeader.h: class foo { static void init_foos(); } Main.cpp: class foo; void init_foos(); int main(char** argv, int argc) { foo::init_foos() } This fails out with "error C2027: use of undefined type 'tt_py_ns::foo'" Is there a way to accomplish what I want to do with out making init_foos a free function, or including BigMassiveHeader.h? (BigMassiveHeader.h is noticeably effecting compile time, and is included everywhere.)

  • plist vs static array

    - by morticae
    Generally, I use static arrays and dictionaries for containing lookup tables in my classes. However, with the number of classes creeping quickly into the hundreds, I'm hesitant to continue using this pattern. Even if these static collections are initialized lazily, I've essentially got a bounded memory leak going on as someone uses my app. Most of these are arrays of strings so I can convert strings into NSInteger constants that can be used with switch statements, etc. I could just recreate the array/dictionary on every call, but many of these functions are used heavily and/or in tight loops. So I'm trying to come up with a pattern that is both performant and not persistent. If I store the information in a plist, does the iphoneOS do anything intelligent about caching those when loaded? Do you have another method that might be related?

  • Java: Non-static nested classes and instance.super()

    - by Kiv
    I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around non-static nested classes in Java. Consider the following example, which prints "Inner" and then "Child". class Outer { class Inner { Inner() { System.out.println("Inner"); } } } public class Child extends Outer.Inner { Child(Outer o) { o.super(); System.out.println("Child"); } public static void main(String args[]) { new Child(new Outer()); } } I understand that instances of Inner always have to be associated with an Outer instance, and that that applies to Child too since it extends Inner. My question is what the o.super() syntax means - why does it call the Inner constructor? I've only seen a plain super(args) used to call the superclass constructor and super.method() to call the superclass version of an overridden method, but never something of the form instance.super().

  • static array in c++ forgets its size

    - by Karel Bílek
    In this small example, c++ forgets size of an array, passed to a constructor. I guess it is something simple, but I cannot see it. In classes.h, there is this code: #ifndef CLASSES_INC #define CLASSES_INC #include <iostream> class static_class { public: static_class(int array[]) { std::cout<<sizeof(array)/sizeof(int)<<"\n"; } }; class my_class{ public: static static_class s; static int array[4]; }; #endif In classes.cpp, there is this code: #include "classes.h" int my_class::array[4]={1, 2, 3, 4}; static_class my_class::s = static_class(my_class::array); In main.cpp, there is only simple #include "classes.h" int main () { return 0; } Now, the desired output (from the constructor of static_class) is 4. But what I get is 1. Why is that?

  • Clojure vars and Java static methods

    - by j-g-faustus
    I'm a few days into learning Clojure and are having some teething problems, so I'm asking for advice. I'm trying to store a Java class in a Clojure var and call its static methods, but it doesn't work. Example: user=> (. java.lang.reflect.Modifier isPrivate 1) false user=> (def jmod java.lang.reflect.Modifier) #'user/jmod user=> (. jmod isPrivate 1) java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No matching method found: isPrivate for class java.lang.Class (NO_SOURCE_FILE:0) at clojure.lang.Compiler.eval(Compiler.java:4543) From the exception it looks like the runtime expects a var to hold an object, so it calls .getClass() to get the class and looks up the method using reflection. In this case the var already holds a class, so .getClass() returns java.lang.Class and the method lookup obviously fails. Is there some way around this, other than writing my own macro? In the general case I'd like to have either an object or a class in a varible and call the appropriate methods on it - duck typing for static methods as well as for instance methods. In this specific case I'd just like a shorter name for java.lang.reflect.Modifier, an alias if you wish. I know about import, but looking for something more general, like the Clojure namespace alias but for Java classes. Are there other mechanisms for doing this? Edit: Maybe I'm just confused about the calling conventions here. I thought the Lisp (and by extension Clojure) model was to evaluate all arguments and call the first element in the list as a function. In this case (= jmod java.lang.reflect.Modifier) returns true, and (.getName jmod) and (.getName java.lang.reflect.Modifier) both return the same string. So the variable and the class name clearly evaluate to the same thing, but they still cannot be called in the same fashion. What's going on here? Edit 2 Answering my second question (what is happening here), the Clojure doc says that If the first operand is a symbol that resolves to a class name, the access is considered to be to a static member of the named class... Otherwise it is presumed to be an instance member http://clojure.org/java_interop under "The Dot special form" "Resolving to a class name" is apparently not the same as "evaluating to something that resolves to a class name", so what I am trying to do here is something the dot special form does not support.

  • Layered Architecture and Static Methods

    - by BigBoss
    I need suggestion for three layered architecture I am planning to implement. Scenario Am Working in ASP.NET c# 3.5 Environment. DLHelper: Methods to get data from database. DAL : Contains Methods which collects data from database with help of DLHelper classes. Most of the methods in this layer are not referencing any page level object, hence can be declared static. BL : Same as DAL Layer, most of the methods are not referencing any page other page level object, hence can be declared static. UI Layer: As per above scenario UI Layer call to BL Layer is like BLClass.Method - DALClass.Method Question I would like to know is this standardise way to do it. As per discussion with my co-worker, we should have corresponding object of BL/DAL layer. But am still looking for more convencing answer.
