    Hi, Which site do you think is the best site for Question/Answers for a developer incase of technical questions. Good old stackoverflow seems to be losing it's charm, if you go through it you will find loads and loads of questions with very few answers. Infact most questions dont even have enough reads on them. Has any new site come up which has gained recent popularity for technical questions ? thanks.

  • Chrome refused to execute this JavaScript file

    In the head of my HTML page, I have: <script src="https://raw.github.com/cloudhead/less.js/master/dist/less-1.3.3.js"></script> When I load the page in my browser (Google Chrome v 27.0.1453.116) and enable the developer tools, it says: Refused to execute script from 'https://raw.github.com/cloudhead/less.js/master/dist/less-1.3.3.js' because its MIME type ('text/plain') is not executable, and strict MIME type checking is enabled. Indeed, the script won't run. Why does Chrome think this is a plain text file? It clearly has a .js file extension. Since I'm using HTML5, I omitted the type attribute, so I thought that might be causing the problem. So I added type="text/javascript" to the <script> tag, and got the same result. I even tried type="application/javascript" and still got the same error. Then I tried changing it to type="text/plain" just out of curiosity. The browser did not return an error, but of course the JavaScript did not run either. Finally I thought the periods in the filename might be throwing the browser off. So in my HTML code, I changed all the periods to the URL escape character %2E: <script src="https://raw.github.com/cloudhead/less%2Ejs/master/dist/less-1%2E3%2E3.js"></script> This still did not work. The only thing that truly works (i.e. the browser does not give an error and the JS successfully runs) is if I download the file, upload it to a local directory, and then change the src value to the local file. I'd rather not do this since I'm trying to save space on my own website. How do I get Chrome to recognize that the linked file is actually a JavaScript type?

  • Dedicated GRUB2 Partition and Windows 8

    Ok so as many of you may know the Windows 8 developer preview was released today and as such I'm very eager to use it but I have both Ubuntu and Windows 7 installed on my machine. I don't want to disturb these drives and have recently set up a dedicated grub partition on /media/sdb8 My question is if I install windows 8 will it overwrite the grub partition and if so what are the steps I should take to recover it.

  • amazon ec2 ubuntu with gitlab and nginx - cant load?

    Ok, so I've spooled up an Amazon EC2 server running Ubuntu, and then followed the instructions below to install GitLab; http://doc.gitlab.com/ce/install/installation.html The only step I've not been able to complete is running the following check on the status; sudo -u git -H bundle exec rake gitlab:check RAILS_ENV=production I get the following error; rake aborted! Errno::ENOMEM: Cannot allocate memory - whoami Which I presume is becuase my EC2 is just running a free tier setup, so isn't that well spec'd. Regardless, I've been trying to access this through my browser. I've set up the elastic IP and pointed my domain at it (for the purpose of this, lets say its git.mydom.co.uk). Doing a whois on this domain shows me its pointing to the right place. For some reason though, I get the "Oops, Chrome could not connect to git.mydom.co.uk". Now - for a period of time I was getting the Nginx holding page (telling me I still needed to perform configuration). This though disappeared after removing the default file from /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/ (after reading this could be issue on a troubleshooting page). Since then, I've had nothing, even when I symlinked the file back in from /sites-available. I've tried changing the owner of the git.mydom.co.uk file sat inside /sites-enabled and /sites-available to www-data, as suggested here, but I could only change the permission of the file in /sites-available, and not the symlinked one in /sites-enabled.   • Install wireless router with cable modem - need authentication server?

    I've bought a wireless router which I'm installing with a Telstra BigPond cable modem for a friend. As part of the setup I've got to a screen requesting username / password / authentication server for the cable modem They have contacted Telstra who supply the username / password and say that is all they need. They dont know anything about an authentication server. There are a couple of answers up on Whirlpool forum found through google but those answers are 4 years old. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/475258.html http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/479615.html I havent tried them yet as I hoped to get actual answers before trundling over to my friends house again.   • PHP-FPM performing worse than mod_php

    Recently the website I maintain has been growing a lot and I saw the point coming where I'd want to switch from apache to nginx, because I kept on reading that it performs way better. Now I've done the switch, and I have to say, nginx is keeping up just fine. However, php-fpm is forming a problem. Where the php pages used to take 0.1 second to generate with the same load they now take around 3 seconds! Furthermore the error.log from nginx is being spammed with errors like: upstream timed out (110: Connection timed out) while connecting to upstream, client: ... I also tried using unix sockets instead, but those would complain about the following: connect() to unix:/tmp/php5-fpm.sock failed (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) while connecting to upstream I've fiddled with settings here and there but nothing seems to work. Changing the amount of pm.max_children doesn't seem to help a lot either, but with it's current amount at 350 it seems to be the lesser of all evil. The server that's being used has 3 GB RAM (not all of it is free due to a MySQL server also running) along with 2 dual-core processors (4 cores in total). Am I doing something majorly wrong with the settings here, or is the server simply not capable enough? We want to start telling Google these pages are mobile-crawl-able too, by adding them to mobile sitemaps, but the documentation is unclear if I need to specify physically different files for my mobile URLs than for my normal ones.   • web spidering/crawling, can i do it or just search engines?

    i already had a question answered about web-scraping with wget. but as i read a little more, i realize i may be looking for a web-crawling program. particularly the part about web-crawlers being able to get specific data like links or, in my case, products. all of the products on my site have the following naming convention, website.com/uniqueAlphaNumericID.html as far as i know, no dynamic content generation is being used and only one page per one item in the above format. should i just be thinking about: wget website.com | grep *.html or should i be looking into spiders/crawlers?
