• SD-CARD reader does not show in ubuntu

  I bought Acer asipre 4250. It have built-in SD card reader. But it is not working. • Learning from jQuery - Solid fundament for experienced jQuery developers

  Frankly speaking, I had to sleep a night over before typing this review. And even now it is not an easy, straight-forward task to write this recension. I'm not sure whether I'm the right kind of audience this title is actually addressed to. It clearly states that this book is for web developers which are very familiar with jQuery library but would like to extend their knowledge to vanilla JavaScript. Not being part of this particular group it felt strange to go through the various chapters after all. This title is clearly addressed to experienced jQuery users and developers especially while looking for improvements in performance and better ways of optimisations. Sometimes just to simplify the existing jQuery code in order to avoid the heavy load of the complete jQuery library and sometimes for the better understanding of JavaScript and its syntax. Callum's style of writing is clear and the numerous code samples used to emphasize the various techniques are good ones and easy to understand. Quite interestingly, it put a light smile on my face when I compared his sample code of sending an AJAX request to some code in one of my own blog articles I wrote back in 2006 (in German language). JavaScript is clearly a mature language and certain requirements are simply done this way. And Callum explains the nuts and bolts of JavaScript very well. Personally, I gained most out of this book from chapter 5 - JavaScript Conventions. The paragraphs and code snippets on Optimizations and Common Antipatterns gave me a better understanding on various aspects of JavaScript development, and I definitely have to revise a couple of code fragments I have written in the past. Overall the book provides solid information on JavaScript for jQuery developers and is worth the money spent. Just be sure that you're part of the targeted audience.

• Installed UBUNTU12.04 in Legacy, when changed to UEFI just runs the Terminal, not GUI

  Well, I installed Ubuntu 12.04 in a Gateway NE 522 with Windows 8. First, I had to install it in Legacy mode, because in UEFI it would not run the bootable USB. In the Legacy mode it runs perfect. Once done that with help of the "Boot-Repair" I changed it to the UEFI and disabled the secure boot mode. GRUB runs fine but when I run ubuntu I get the following message: microcode: failed to load file amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam16h.bin kvm: disabled by bios kvm: disabled by bios kvm: disabled by bios and then I just get access to the terminal. From there, I have already tried with reinstalling unity and gmd. When I try to install amd64-microcode the same error ocurrs ( microcode: failed to load file amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam16h.bin ) by the "updating the microcode on all online processors..." phase of the installation. Can somebody tell me how can I recover the graphical interphase of ubuntu from the terminal? Thanks a lot

• Firefox Slow down and 100% CPU after gnome-settings-deamon update

  I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 (Unity) with Firefox 17.0.1 instaled. after the latest update of the gnome-settings-deamon (3.4.2-0ubuntu0.5,3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6) FireFox starts taking 100% of my CPU, periodically. I have tried various things: 1) Disabled All the non standard extensions = No change to the CPU Usage 2) Disabled Flash PlugIns (also updated same time) = No change to CPU Usage 3) Disabled "Global Menu integration 3.6.4) Extension = HOOOA CPU OK !!! Any suggestion to get back global menu integration with no more CPU problems?

  Is there a way to determine the speed of the PCI Express connection to a specific card? I have three cards plugged in: two Nvidia GTX 480's (one at x16 & and one at x8) one Nvidia GTX 460 running at x8 Is there some way, either by a function call in C or an option to lspci that I can determine the bus speed of the graphics cards? When I only use one of the cards for my CUDA program, I'd like to use the one which is running at x16. Thanks! Note: lspci -vvv dumps out For the two GTX 480s.   My plan is to develop a web based application in the future. I think, i can named it "Booth Reservation System" for the Events companies here in our country. One of the main functionality of the system and the most tricky part/ difficult part is the user can upload a "floor plan"(the design of the area were the booth is located in any image format) then the user can select on the specific location on the floor plan to reserve the booth. Also, the user can create floor plan on the system as another functionality of the system. What do you think? What programming language that i can use to accomplished the system? thanks!

• CoffeeScript - inability to support progressive adoption

  First if, what is CoffeeScript?Web definitionsCoffeeScript is a programming language that compiles statement-by-statement to JavaScript. The language adds syntactic sugar inspired by Ruby and Python to enhance JavaScript's brevity and readability, as well as adding more sophisticated features like array comprehension and pattern matching.The issue with CoffeeScript is that it eliminates any progressive adoption. It is a purist approach, kind of like the Amish, if you're not borne Amish, tough luck. So for folks with thousands of lines of JavaScript code will have a tough time to convert it to CoffeeScript. You can use the js2coffee API to convert the JavaScript file to CoffeeScript but in my experience that had trouble converting the files. It would convert the file to CoffeeScript without any complaints, but then when trying to generate the CoffeeScript file got errors with guess what: INDENTATION!Tried to convince the CoffeeScript community on github but got lots of push-back to progressive adoption with comments like "stupid", "crap", "child's comportment", "it's like Ruby, Python", "legacy code" etc. As a matter of interest one of the first comments were that the code needs to be re-designed before converted to CoffeeScript. Well I rest my case then :-)So far the community on github has been very reluctant to even consider introducing some way to define code-blocks, obviously curly braces is not an option as they use it for json object definitions. They also have no consideration for a progressive adoption where some, if not all, JavaScript syntax will be allowed which means all of us in the real world that have thousands of lines of JavaScript will have a real issue converting it over. Worst, I for one lack the confidence that tools like js2coffee will provide the correct indentation that will determine the flow of control in your code!!! Actually it is hard for me to find enough justification for using spaces or tabs to control the flow of code. It is no wonder that C#, C, C++, Java, all enterprise-scale frameworks still use curly braces. Have never seen an enterprise app built with Ruby or PhP.Let me know what your concerns are with CoffeeScript and how you dealt with large scale JavaScript conversions to CoffeeScript.

  I'd like to click on a trigger and show a specific image. There are multiple triggers which would show a specific image related to it within a set. There are 4 sets The challenge for me is toggling the other images to hide only in this 'set' when one of these triggers are clicked, as there can only be one image showing at a time in each set. • How do I keep a bridge enabled on a bonded interface?

  I'm working on setting up a pair of CentOS 6.3 servers that will run a couple of KVM vms and have come across a problem setting up a bridge on a bond. I am using Mode 4 (802.3ad) bonding on a pair of stacked Dell Powerconnect 5524 switches connecting to R320 servers. There are 2 links (1 to each switch) that form a Link Aggregation Group (802.3ad / LACP bonding). On top of the bond I have VLAN Tagging. I've verified this is a problem on multiple other bonding modes so it isn't just a mode 4 issue. I am testing what happens when 1 link is dropped (ie switch dies, cable breaks, etc). If I don't have a bridge (for KVM), everything works fine, failover happens as expected. If I have the bridge enabled, it works fine until failover (unplugging a cable). When failover happens /var/log/messages shows the slave link going down, followed within a second by: kernel: br1: port 1(bond0.8) entering disabled state The thing is /proc/net/bonding/bond0 shows the link is up as expected (simply with only 1 slave instead of 2). If I plug the cable back in it recovers and brings the bridge back to an enabled state. I actually have tested this while a ping is occuring and if the timing is right a packet will actually leave the system after the link is lost, but before the disabled message occurs. This disabled state I assumed was STP, but I have disabled STP on the bridge configuration and this issue still occurs. brctl showstp br1 still shows the link as disabled when it is running without a slave. I also switched between the nics in the server (I have 2x Broadcom & 4x intel). It doesn't matter which configuration I have. Does anyone know of a way to force the bridge to stay enabled or why its detecting the bond as disabled, when it isn't?

  Do you know of any text editor that can be used with a spell checker which is smart enough to ignore XHML/CSS and javascript tags? The requirements would be: It must run in Linux; It must be free and open source; It doesn't need to have WYSIWYG capabilities, but they would be welcome. It must have built in "tag skipping" capabilities or be configurable to skip (X)HTML tags, CSS and embedded Javascript; It doesn't need to have a HTML validator, but if it does it will be a plus; I've tried to use spell checker plugins for Kate, HTML validators for Firefox, Eclipse's HTML editor, but I couldn't find a solution that have a speel checker that ignores hml tags.   Hi, I'm adding a ckeditor to my form using the onclick functionality - i.e., when the user clicks a button, the ckeditor is added to the form. I'm echoing out the html generated when a ckeditor is added to a page through the javascript function. The ckeditor is added, but the text area cannot be modified. is it because i'm adding the html to generate the ckeditor as : ckeditor.innerHTML = '......'; is there another way to add a ckeditor to my form using the javascript onclick (like: onclick="addCKEditor();") Thanks!
