• How to insert an item into a key/value pair object?

  Ok...here's a softball question... I just need to be able to insert a key/value pair into an object at a specific position. I'm currently working with a Hashtable which, of course, doesn't allow for this functionality. What would be the best approach? UPDATE: Also, I do need the ability to lookup by the key. • How to use the merge command

  Say I have a table called Employee (has ID, NAME, ADDRESS, and PHONE columns). (Not my real problem, but simplified to make the question easier.) If I call a sproc called UpdateEmployee and I pass in a @Name, @Address, @Phone and @ID. Can merge be used to easily check to see if the ID exists? If it does to update the name, address and phone? and if it does not to insert them? I see examples on the net, but they are huge and hairy. I would like a nice simple example if possible. (We recently upgraded to SQL 2008, so I am new to the merge command.)

• Tasks API using Google Apps Script (complete task)

  I am trying to set the status of a task as completed using Tasks API. It shows that the code has completed successfully, but the task is not being marked as completed. Also, when I try to get the status of the task after update, it shows status as "needsAction".   Hi, I have some text coming from the web as such: £6.49 Obviously I would like this to be displayed as: £6.49 I have tried the following so far: s = url['title'] s = s.encode('utf8') s = s.replace(u'Â','') And a few variants on this (after finding it on this very same forum) But still no luck as I keep getting: UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 100: ordinal not in range(128) Could anyone help me getting this right? • CodeIgniter | direct Echo during working script

  Is it possible to echo something while the script for example is still running in a loop? my problem: I ask the server with Ajax and then the server is fetching mails and store them in Database. This took around 15 sec. During that Time the Server should echo his progress so that the Javascript can update a loading bar. This is working with a php script without CodeIgniter well. Is there a way to skip the output class and all that stuff to get a direct echo? Thanks

• Sql Server as logging, best connection practise

  I'm using SqlServer as logging. Yes this is wrong decision, there are better dbs for this requirement. But I have no other option for now. Logging interval is 3 logs per second. So I've static Logger class and it has static Log method. Using "Open Connection" as static member is better for performance. But what is the best implemantation of it?   I had to do an update in my WebView from the Appdelegate.m I try it like this: [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(loadWebViewWithContent:) withObject:requestObj waitUntilDone:NO]; The loadWebViewWithContent Method works great from ViewController.m, but not from the Appdelegate.   I'm building a simple client-server chat system. The clients send data to the server and the server resends the data to all the other clients. I'm using the TcpListener and Network stream classes to send the data between the client and the server. The fields I need to send are, for example: name, text, timestamp, etc. I separate them using the ASCII character 29. I'm also using ASCII character 30 to mark the end of the streamed data. The data is encoded with UTF8.. Is this a good approach? Will I run into problems? Are there better methods? UPDATE: Probably my question was misunderstood, so I explain it better.. Suppose to have a list of data to send from client to server, and suppose to send all the data in only one stream, how do you send these data? • Saving a modified object from ASP.NET MVC View Using Entity-Franework 4

  I retrieve an object graph from DB using EF4. The context is closed as soon as the data retrieve and the data passes to the controller, and then to the view. in the view the data is modified, and then the controller gets it back. From the controller I run Repository.Update(MyEmp); and in my repository the code goes: using (var context = new mydb()) { if (myEmp.ID != 0) // Checking if it's modified or new { context.Emp.Attach(MyEmp); int result = context.SaveChanges(); return myEmp.ID; } } The problem - once attached, the object entityState goes to unchanged, and not modified, and of course - nothing is saved to the database. What am I doing wrong ?

• Keyup attribute 'name' change not working

  Hey guys, I've got what I imagine is a simple question, but for some reason, I can't get it working right. Expected Behavior: I type characters into a field, and, through a function, those characters are translated into the value of the name HTML attribute. Actual Behavior: Reflected in Firebug, the value doesn't change or update. The Code: $('input').live('keyup', function() { var name_value = $(this).val().toLowerCase(); $(this).attr('name', name_value); }); Just a side note: I'm using .live() because the element can be cloned, and those clones need to also be able to take on the properties of this .keyup event. Any ideas?

  In c# you can use as to convert a type or get null: Object o = Whatever(); String s = o as String; Is there a similar easy way to achieve this in c++? I'm using Visual Studio 2010, if thats important. [update] Remember, there is a very important difference between casting and using as. Casting (at least in c#) will throw an exception if the type does not match: Object o = null; String s = (String)o; // will crash.

  Hi, Is it possible to import managed keywords into SharePoint 2010? Where are the keywords stored within which database? Background - I'm currently working on a migration from a legacy system into SharePoint 2010. So far everything is going well, and I can even bring across the managed meta data across along with most other data. The process I use was built for SharePoint 2007 to update Lists over SOAP. With a few manual tweaks I've managed to get the metadata to come across. To bring across either managed metadata or managed keywords I need to know the ID for the existing label/keyword. I have this for the Managed Metadata however not for the Managed Keyword. Currently I create a CSV file to be imported for managed metadata before working out the reverent GUID for the source label.   Hi, I have a Question table and an Answers table linked by questionID (1 to many). I'd like to be able to update both table from the one form. I can easily add a question but to have it also add the answers (into their own recordsets) is causing a headache. how do I set my form up to allow for the answers to be created and also what do I do in the Controller. • Ajax response seems to be getting lost

  I'm using the ddslick jquery dropdown plugin in conjunction with my Rails app. In view1, I have $('#challenges_dropdown').ddslick({ <snipped> onSelected: function (data) { $.ajax({ url: "/load_data", type: "GET", data: {"id": data.selectedData.value} }); } }); I.e., I make a call to my controller to load_data. The controller receives this correctly and then at the end, makes a call to render a separate view render "data" This view contains a script snippet that needs to run in order to update some elements of my original view. For some reason, this script snippet is just not running. I'm very confused. When I use a regular link with data-remote="true", then the whole process works perfectly. However, when I make an AJAX call, it fails. What's going on?? Thanks! Ringo

If so, what is my alternative if I need the JS to change every time the div is update? Now

• Can you have a web application project produce multiple DLLS?

  I have a VS 2008 web application project that is getting large. My structure looks like: - WebRoot - Common/ - Foo/ - Bar/ - Baz/ so I end up with a single Webroot.dll that contains the code for common, foo, bar, and baz. Is it possible to set it so that I end up with common/ in webroot.dll, and code in foo ends up in foo.dll, bar in bar.dll, etc? Update: A couple of suggestions to move some stuff into class libraries. We already have a dozen or so separate class library projects as part of the solution; Foo, Bar and Baz contain nothing but web forms and the associated code-behinds, so moving them into separate class library projects is not feasible.

  I would like to implement pagination in my Servlet/EJB/JPA-Hibernate project, but I can't figure out how only one page from the query and know the number of pages I must display I use setFirstResult(int first) ; setMaxResults(int max) ; and that's working alright, but how can I know how many pages I will have in total? (Hibernate is my JPA provider, but I would prefer using only JPA if possible) UPDATE: COUNT() seems to be the better/easiest solution; but what can be the cost of SELECT COUNT(*) FROM ... in comparison with executeQuery("SELECT * FROM ...).getListResult().size() ?

  Simplified example: I have an object that models a user. Users have a first name and a last name. The UserViewModel has a dependency property for my Models.User object. In the declaration of the UserView's xaml, I want to bind a couple of TextBlocks to the first and last name properties. What is the correct way to do this? Should I have readonly DependencyProperties for the name fields, and when the dependency property User is set, update them? Can the name fields be regular C# properties instead? Or, should I bind like this: <TextBlock Text="{Binding User.FirstName}" />

  When building a rails app that allows a User to login and create data, is it best to setup a belongs_to :user association on every single model? For example, let's say a user can create Favorites, Colors and Tags. And let's say Favorites has_many :tags and Colors also has_many :tags. Is it still important for Tags to belong_to :user assuming the User is the only person who has authority to edit those tags? And a similar question along the same lines: When updating data in FavoritesController, I've come to the conclusion that you perform CRUD operations by always doing something like User.favorites.find(params[:id].update_attributes(param[:favorite]) so that they can definitely only update models that belong to them. Right?

  Seems unlikely, but is there any way to generate a set of unit tests for the following rewrite rule: RewriteRule ^/(user|group|country)/([a-z]+)/(photos|videos)$ http:/whatever?type=$1&entity=$2&resource=$3 From this I'd like to generate a set of urls of the form: /user/foo/photos /user/bar/photos /group/baz/videos /country/bar/photos etc... The reason I don't want to just do this once by hand is that I'd like the bounded alternation groups (e.g. (user|group|country)) to be able to grow and maintain coverage without having the update the tests by hand. Is there a rewrite rule or regex parser that might be able to do this, or am I doing it by hand?

  I have a table w/ 3 columns: name, phone, date. I have 3 indexes: 1 on phone, 1 on date and 1 on phone and date. I have the following statement: SELECT * FROM ( SELECT * FROM people WHERE phone IS NOT NULL ORDER BY date DESC) as t GROUP BY phone Basically, I want to get all unique phone numbers ordered by date. This table has about 2.5 million rows but takes forever to execute....are my indexes right? UPDATE: My EXPLAIN statement comes back with 2 rows: 1 for primary table and 1 for derived table. It says I am using temporary and using filesort for my primary table. For my derived table, it says my possible keys are (phone), and (phone, date) but it is using filesort.

• Updating the collections of entities with NHibernate the correct way

  A simple question regarding how NHibernate works: I have a parent entity that has a collection of other child entities. Those child entities have a reference to the parent entity they belong to. Now I want to implement an Add method to the parent entity that would add a child to it. Should that Add method only add the child to its new parents collection, or should it also update the parent reference of the child or should it also remove the added entity from its previous parents collection? Do I have to do all these things in that method or will NHibernate do something for me? Thanks.
