  • Using functions like formulas in Excel

    - by Arlen Beiler
    I am trying to use a formula to get a letter of the alphabet. Formula: =Keytable(RANDOM,ROW()) Function: Function KeyTable(seed As Long, position As Long) As String Dim i As Long Stop Dim calpha(1 To 26) As String Dim alpha(1 To 26) As String For i = 1 To 26 alpha(i) = Chr(i + UPPER_CASE - 1) Next i For i = 1 To 26 calpha(i) = alpha(seed Mod 27 - i) Next i Stop KeyTable = calpha(position) End Function Result: #Value! When I step through the function, it never gets to the second stop.

  • Java: Switch statements with methods involving arrays

    - by Shane
    Hi guys I'm currently creating a program that allows the user to create an array, search an array and delete an element from an array. Looking at the LibraryMenu Method, the first case where you create an array in the switch statement works fine, however the other ones create a "cannot find symbol error" when I try to compile. My question is I want the search and delete functions to refer to the first switch case - the create Library array. Any help is appreciated, even if its likely from a simple mistake. import java.util.*; public class EnterLibrary { public static void LibraryMenu() { java.util.Scanner scannerObject =new java.util.Scanner(System.in); LibraryMenu Menu = new LibraryMenu(); Menu.displayMenu(); switch (scannerObject.nextInt() ) { case '1': { System.out.println ("1 - Add Videos"); Library[] newLibrary; newLibrary = createLibrary(); } break; case '2': System.out.println ("2 - Search Videos"); searchLibrary(newLibrary); break; case '3': { System.out.println ("3 - Change Videos"); //Change video method TBA } break; case '4': System.out.println ("4 - Delete Videos"); deleteVideo(newLibrary); break; default: System.out.println ("Unrecognized option - please select options 1-3 "); break; } } public static Library[] createLibrary() { Library[] videos = new Library[4]; java.util.Scanner scannerObject =new java.util.Scanner(System.in); for (int i = 0; i < videos.length; i++) { //User enters values into set methods in Library class System.out.print("Enter video number: " + (i+1) + "\n"); String number = scannerObject.nextLine(); System.out.print("Enter video title: " + (i+1) + "\n"); String title = scannerObject.nextLine(); System.out.print("Enter video publisher: " + (i+1) + "\n"); String publisher = scannerObject.nextLine(); System.out.print("Enter video duration: " + (i+1) + "\n"); String duration = scannerObject.nextLine(); System.out.print("Enter video date: " + (i+1) + "\n"); String date= scannerObject.nextLine(); System.out.print("VIDEO " + (i+1) + " ENTRY ADDED " + "\n \n"); //Initialize arrays videos[i] = new Library (); videos[i].setVideo( number, title, publisher, duration, date ); } return videos; } public static void printVidLibrary( Library[] videos) { //Get methods to print results System.out.print("\n======VIDEO CATALOGUE====== \n"); for (int i = 0; i < videos.length; i++) { System.out.print("Video number " + (i+1) + ": \n" + videos[i].getNumber() + "\n "); System.out.print("Video title " + (i+1) + ": \n" + videos[i].getTitle() + "\n "); System.out.print("Video publisher " + (i+1) + ": \n" + videos[i].getPublisher() + "\n "); System.out.print("Video duration " + (i+1) + ": \n" + videos[i].getDuration() + "\n "); System.out.print("Video date " + (i+1) + ": \n" + videos[i].getDate() + "\n "); } } public static Library searchLibrary( Library[] videos) { //User enters values to setSearch Library titleResult = new Library(); java.util.Scanner scannerObject =new java.util.Scanner(System.in); for (int n = 0; n < videos.length; n++) { System.out.println("Search for video number:\n"); String newSearch = scannerObject.nextLine(); titleResult.getSearch( videos, newSearch); if (!titleResult.equals(-1)) { System.out.print("Match found!\n" + newSearch + "\n"); } else if (titleResult.equals(-1)) { System.out.print("Sorry, no matches found!\n"); } } return titleResult; } public static void deleteVideo( Library[] videos) { Library titleResult = new Library(); java.util.Scanner scannerObject =new java.util.Scanner(System.in); for (int n = 0; n < videos.length; n++) { System.out.println("Search for video number:\n"); String deleteSearch = scannerObject.nextLine(); titleResult.deleteVideo(videos, deleteSearch); System.out.print("Video deleted\n"); } } public static void main(String[] args) { Library[] newLibrary; new LibraryMenu(); } }

  • magento _redirect with parameters that have + or /

    - by epeleg
    seems like a call to $this->_redirect('*/*/myaction',$myargs); does not properly escape the arguments so if $myargs=array(p1=>'string that has + or / within it') the created URL will be something like: ..../myaction/?p1/string%20that%20has%20+%20or%20/%20within%20it causing the getParams collection on the action to have p1 with value 'string that has or ' <- plus sign missing and value broken and ' within it' with no value or something similar. is there any standard way I should handle the arguments before passing them to _redirect ? • Applying a function with multiple inputs using Map? (Haskell)

    - by Schroedinger
    G'day guys, Trying currently to finish up a bit of homework I'm working on, and having an issue where I'm trying to apply map across a function that accepts multiple inputs. so in the case I'm using processList f (x:xs) = map accelerateList f xs x xs processList is given a floating value (f) and a List that it sorts into another List Accelerate List takes a floating value (f) a List and a List Object through which it returns another List Object I know my Accelerate List code is correct, but I cannot for the life of me get the syntax for this code working: processList :: Float -> [Object] -> [Object] accelerate f [] = [] accelerate f [x] = [(accelerateForce f x x)] accelerate f (x:xs) = map accelerateList f xs x xs Any ideas? I've been scratching my head for about 3 hours now. I know it's something really simple.

  • Why do browsers encode special characters differently with ajax requests?

    - by Andrei Oniga
    I have a web application that reads the values of a few input fields (alphanumeric) and constructs a very simple xml that is passes to the server, using jQuery's $.ajax() method. The template for that xml is: <request> <session>[some-string]</session> <space>[some-string]</space> <plot>[some-string]</plot> ... </request> Sending such requests to the server when the inputs contain Finnish diacritical characters (such as ä or ö) raises a problem in terms of character encoding with different browsers. For instance, if I add the word Käyttötarkoitus" in one of the inputs, here's how Chrome and Firefox send EXACTLY the same request to the server: Chrome: <request> <session>{string-hidden}</session> <space>2080874</space> <plot>Käyttötarkoitus</plot> ... </request> FF 12.0: <request> <session>{string-hidden}</session> <space>2080874</space> <plot>Käyttötarkoitus</plot> ... </request> And here is the code fragment that I use to send the requests: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: url, dataType: 'xml;charset=UTF-8', data: xml, success: function(xml) { // }, error: function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) { // } }); Why do I get different encodings and how do I get rid of this difference? I need to fix this problem because it's causing other on the server-side.

  • Access inner function variables in Javascript

    - by Elazar Leibovich
    In many frameworks, internal function variables are used as private variables, for example Raphael = (function(){ var private = function(a,b) {return a+b;}; var public = function(a) {return private(a,a);} var object = {mult2:public}; return object; })(); here, we cannot access from the global namespace the variable named private, as it is an inner variable of the anonymous function in the first line. Sometimes this function is contains a big Javascript framework, so that it wouldn't pollute the global namespace. I need to unit tests some object Raphael uses internally (in the above example, I wish to run unit tests on the object private). How can I test them?

  • wpf treeview does not show child objects

    - by gangt
    I have an object with child object(s) and I load it using linq. And I assign it to a treeView's itemssource. treeView.DisplayMemberPath = "Name"; treeView.ItemsSource = tasks; It shows only the parent nodes (task.name), I couldn't figure out how to add children (TaskItems.name). All the examples show HierarchicalData in xaml. I need to do it in code-behind, just like the above code. Is it possible? public class Task { public int Id; public string Name; public bool IsActive; public List<TaskItem> TaskItems = new List<TaskItem>(); } public class TaskItem { public int TaskId; public string Name; public string Value; } -------------- var tasks1 = from t in xd.Descendants("taskheader") select new Task { Id = (int)t.Element("id"), Name = t.Element("name").Value, IsActive = t.Element("isactive").Value == "1", TaskItems = t.Elements("taskdetail").Select(e => new TaskItem { TaskId = (int)e.Element("taskid"), Name = (string)e.Element("name"), Value = (string)e.Element("value"), }).ToList() }; -------------- List<Task> tasks = new List<Task>(); tasks = tasks1;

  • C# StringBuilder question

    - by andrew
    in a C# file i have a class Archiver { [DllImport("Archiver.dll")] public static extern void archive(string data, StringBuilder response); } string data is an input, and StringBuilder response is where the function writes something the archive function prototype (written in C) looks like this: void archive(char * dataChr, char * outChr); and it receives a string in dataChr, and then does a strcpy(outChr,"some big text"); from C# i call it something like this: string message = "some text here"; StringBuilder response = new StringBuilder(10000); Archiver.archive(message,response); this works, but the problem, as you might see is that i give a value to the StringBuilder size, but the archive function might give back a (way) larger text than the size i've given to my StringBuilder. any way to fix this?

  • How does one refer to the game1 class's variables in XNA

    - by user1149068
    I try to refer to an array in the Game1 class by creating an object of the Game1 class with its definition Game1 gameObject; , its declaration gameObject = new Game1(); in the constructor, and its usage gameObject.tileArray[xInt, yInt].treed = true;. The game1 class itself remains unchanged in its class code other than some methods and variables. When I try to use this code in the TreeRegion class it gives me "Object reference not set to an instance of an object," leading me to believe that the game1 class is null somehow. How might one change the class or object in order to refer to game1's variables? Mind you I am self-taught and still rather new to C#. The class that refers to game1: http://pastebin.com/0chEcKfq Game1 itself http://pastebin.com/zLDVzCca

  • final transient fields and serialization

    - by doublep
    Is it possible to have final transient fields that are set to any non-default value after serialization in Java? My usecase is a cache variable — that's why it is transient. I also have a habit of making Map fields that won't be changed (i.e. contents of the map is changed, but object itself remains the same) final. However, these attributes seem to be contradictory — while compiler allows such a combination, I cannot have the field set to anything but null after unserialization. I tried the following, without success: simple field initialization (shown in the example): this is what I normally do, but the initialization doesn't seem to happen after unserialization; initialization in constructor (I believe this is semantically the same as above though); assigning the field in readObject() — cannot be done since the field is final. In the example cache is public only for testing. import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class test { public static void main (String[] args) throws Exception { X x = new X (); System.out.println (x + " " + x.cache); ByteArrayOutputStream buffer = new ByteArrayOutputStream (); new ObjectOutputStream (buffer).writeObject (x); x = (X) new ObjectInputStream (new ByteArrayInputStream (buffer.toByteArray ())).readObject (); System.out.println (x + " " + x.cache); } public static class X implements Serializable { public final transient Map <Object, Object> cache = new HashMap <Object, Object> (); } } Output: test$X@1a46e30 {} test$X@190d11 null

  • Java/Hibernate using interfaces over the entities.

    - by Dennetik
    I am using annoted Hibernate, and I'm wondering whether the following is possible. I have to set up a series of interfaces representing the objects that can be persisted, and an interface for the main database class containing several operations for persisting these objects (... an API for the database). Below that, I have to implement these interfaces, and persist them with Hibernate. So I'll have, for example: public interface Data { public String getSomeString(); public void setSomeString(String someString); } @Entity public class HbnData implements Data, Serializable { @Column(name = "some_string") private String someString; public String getSomeString() { return this.someString; } public void setSomeString(String someString) { this.someString = someString; } } Now, this works fine, sort of. The trouble comes when I want nested entities. The interface of what I'd want is easy enough: public interface HasData { public Data getSomeData(); public void setSomeData(Data someData); } But when I implement the class, I can follow the interface, as below, and get an error from Hibernate saying it doesn't know the class "Data". @Entity public class HbnHasData implements HasData, Serializable { @OneToOne(cascade = CascadeType.ALL) private Data someData; public Data getSomeData() { return this.someData; } public void setSomeData(Data someData) { this.someData = someData; } } The simple change would be to change the type from "Data" to "HbnData", but that would obviously break the interface implementation, and thus make the abstraction impossible. Can anyone explain to me how to implement this in a way that it will work with Hibernate?

  • Why does grails use hsqldb when I ask for mysql?

    - by John
    I'm following the racetrack example from Jason Rudolph's book at InfoQ, using grails-1.2.1. I got up to the part where I was to switch from hsqldb to mysql. I think I've deleted every reference to hsqldb in the DataSource.groovy file, but I get an exception and the stack trace shows it's still using hsqldb. DataSource.groovy dataSource { boolean pooled = true String driverClassName = "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/dfpc2" String dbCreate = "create" String username = "dfpc2" String password = "dfpc2" dialect = org.hibernate.dialect.MySQL5InnoDBDialect } hibernate { cache.use_second_level_cache=true cache.use_query_cache=true cache.provider_class='net.sf.ehcache.hibernate.EhCacheProvider' } // environment specific settings environments { development { } test { } production { } } When I grails run-app it all starts up with no errors. I can navigate to the home page. But when I click on one of the links, I get a stack trace: java.sql.SQLException: Table not found in statement [select this_.id as id0_0_, this_.version as version0_0_, this_.name as name0_0_, this_.variant as variant0_0_ from domainObject this_ limit ?] at org.hsqldb.jdbc.Util.throwError(Unknown Source) at org.hsqldb.jdbc.jdbcPreparedStatement.<init>(Unknown Source) at org.hsqldb.jdbc.jdbcConnection.prepareStatement(Unknown Source) at dfpc2.domainObjectController$_closure2.doCall(script1269434425504953491149.groovy:13) at dfpc2.domainObjectController$_closure2.doCall(script1269434425504953491149.groovy) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) My mysql database shows no tables created. (I don't think groovy's connected to mysql yet.) Things I've checked: mysql-connector-java-5.1.6.jar is in lib directory. I've tried grails clean I tried putting the dataSource info in the development environment (I haven't graduated to test or prod yet), but it seemed to make no difference. The stdout shows I'm using development env. I've googled for solutions, but the only solution I've found is when people don't change the test or production environments.

  • How to Initialise a static Map in Java

    How would you initialise a static Map in Java? Method one: Static initialiser Method two: instance initialiser (anonymous subclass) or some other method? What are the pros and cons of each? Here is an example illustrating two methods: import java.util.HashMap; import java.util.Map; public class Test { private static final Map<Integer, String> myMap = new HashMap<Integer, String>(); static { myMap.put(1, "one"); myMap.put(2, "two"); } private static final Map<Integer, String> myMap2 = new HashMap<Integer, String>(){ { put(1, "one"); put(2, "two"); } }; }

  • Regexp look-behind to match internet speeds

    - by Sandman
    So the user may search for "10 mbit" after which I want to capture the "10" so I can use it in a speed-search rather than a string-search. This isn't a problem, the below regexp does this fine: if (preg_match("/(\d+)\smbit/", $string)){ ... } But, the user may search for something like "10/10 mbit" or "10-100 mbit". I don't want to match those with the above regexp - they should be handled in another fashion. So I would like a regexp that matches "10 mbit" if the number is all-numeric as a whole word (i.e. contained by whitespace, newline or lineend/linestart) Using lookbehind, I did this: if (preg_match("#(?<!/)(\d+)\s+mbit#i", $string)){ Just to catch those that doesn't have "/" before them, but this matched true for this string: "10/10 mbit" so I'm obviously doing something wrong here, but what?

  • Java: how to read BufferedReader faster

    - by Cata
    Hello, I want to optimize this code: InputStream is = rp.getEntity().getContent(); BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is)); String text = ""; String aux = ""; while ((aux = reader.readLine()) != null) { text += aux; } The thing is that i don't know how to read the content of the bufferedreader and copy it in a String faster than what I have above. I need to spend as little time as possible. Thank you
