• How to handle server-client requests

  Currently I'm working on a Server-Client system which will be the backbone of my application. I have to find the best way to send requests and handle them on the server-side. The server-side should be able to handle requests like this one: getPortfolio -i 2 -d all In an old project I decided to send such a request as string and the server application had to look up the first part of the string ("getPortfolio"). Afterwards the server application had to find the correct method in a map which linked the methods with the the first part of the string ("getPortfolio"). The second part ("-i 2 -d all") got passed as parameter and the method itself had to handle this string/parameter. I doubt that this is the best solution in order to handle many different requests. What can I do to get such an empty XML? I tried adding the nillable=true annotation to the elements however, this returns me an XML with the xsi:nil="true" which then causes my unmarshaller to ignore this. How do I achieve this?

• Java: Switch statements with methods involving arrays

  Hi guys I'm currently creating a program that allows the user to create an array, search an array and delete an element from an array. Looking at the LibraryMenu Method, the first case where you create an array in the switch statement works fine, however the other ones create a "cannot find symbol error" when I try to compile. My question is I want the search and delete functions to refer to the first switch case - the create Library array. • is putting N in front of strings in scripts considered a "best practice"?

  Let's say I have a table that has a varchar field. If I do an insert like this: INSERT MyTable SELECT N'the string goes here' Is there any fundamental difference between that and: INSERT MyTable SELECT 'the string goes here' My understanding was that you'd only have a problem if the string contained a Unicode character and the target column wasn't unicode. Other than that, SQL deals with it just fine and converts the string with the N'' into a varchar field (basically ignores the N). I was under the impression that N in front of strings was a good practice, but I'm unable to find any discussion of it that I'd consider definitive. Title may need improvement, feel free.

  I have a web application that reads the values of a few input fields (alphanumeric) and constructs a very simple xml that is passes to the server, using jQuery's $.ajax() method. The template for that xml is: <request> <session>[some-string]</session> <space>[some-string]</space> <plot>[some-string]</plot> ... </request> Sending such requests to the server when the inputs contain Finnish diacritical characters (such as ä or ö) raises a problem in terms of character encoding with different browsers. • routing paramenter returns null when only supplying first paramenter in MVC

  My issue is that I customer Map Route in MVC which takes three parameters. When I supply all three or just two, the parameters are passed from the URL to my controller. However, when I only supply the first parameter, it is not passed and returns null. Not sure what causes this behavior.   I create a project that check the sub domain and redirect to the exist subdomain ( username ) but I can't find out why when the username is in database it can't show it . on local system it works finely .. but when I upload it on server it not works .. of course I change the commented place to uncomment for test .. but it's not working .. it shows this error : Object reference not set to an instance of an object. The issue is that while my db model ends up having a correct EftInterfaces table, with a FK to Provider_Id, the BusinessUnits table has a FK to EftInterface_Id. But, a BusinessUnit can be included in more than one EftInterface. I need a many to many relationship. A BusinessUnit can be part of many EftInterfaces, and an EftInterface can contain many BusinessUnits. How can I get CodeFirst to generate the many-to-many table?

• issue of JSTL forEach iterate from arrayList

  In my code, I have used ArrayList which stores the number format like '$0.00 to $1,000,000.00' in each index of array list. while iterate in JSP through tag, its values are printing like $0.00 to $1 as a first string, 000 as a second string and 000.00 as a thrid string. but it has to print like '$0.00 to $1,000,000.00'. what will be the problem is? • NHibernate / multiple sessions and nested objects

  We are using NHibernate in a rich client application. It is a pretty open application (the user searches for a dataset or creates a new one, changes the data and saves the data set. We leave the session open, because sometimes we have to lazy load some properties of the object (nested object structure). This means one big problem if we leave the session open, the db (MySQL) closes the connection and we are not able to find this out and it throws an exception (socket communication error) when accessing the database (we are thinking about testing the db connection before accessing the object - but this is not really optimal neither, the other option would be to set back the timeout of the db connection , but this just doesn't seem to well). So - is it possible to reconnect the session to a new database connection ? Another problem is it possible to get an object from one session and then re-attach it to another session ? (I often hear that session.lock should work for this - but this doesn't work so well in our application - so I ended up getting a "fresh" object from the session and copy the data over manually - which is a little bit cumbersome) Any ideas for this ?

• How to specify multiple values in where with AR query interface in rails3

  Per section 2.2 of rails guide on Active Record query interface here: which seems to indicate that I can pass a string specifying the condition(s), then an array of values that should be substituted at some point while the arel is being built. So I've got a statement that generates my conditions string, which can be a varying number of attributes chained together with either AND or OR between them, and I pass in an array as the second arg to the where method, and I get: ActiveRecord::PreparedStatementInvalid: wrong number of bind variables (1 for 5) which leads me to believe I'm doing this incorrectly. However, I'm not finding anything on how to do it correctly. To restate the problem another way, I need to pass in a string to the where method such as "table.attribute = ? AND table.attribute1 = ? OR table.attribute1 = ?" with an unknown number of these conditions anded or ored together, and then pass something, what I thought would be an array as the second argument that would be used to substitute the values in the first argument conditions string. Is this the correct approach, or, I'm just missing some other huge concept somewhere and I'm coming at this all wrong? I'd think that somehow, this has to be possible, short of just generating a raw sql string.

Any idea how to achieve this? FYI: I am using JPA and Hibernate with Struts2 and Spring. The database being used is DB2 UDB8.2 Please help!
