  I have an element like this: <span class="tool_tip" title="The full title">The ful&#8230;</span> This seems to work: jQuery('span:contains(…)'); But this does not: jQuery('span:contains(&#8230;)'); I am pretty sure that it would be bad to use the first one because if someone else saves the file, or the browser decides to get the file in a different character set for some reason things will not work. There has to be a way to properly select this span, right?

• C# Virtual Mode List View Click 1 Selects More Than One Items

  I have a list view with virtual mode set to true and other things. It doing ok. But 1) Say there are 25 items and 15 of them are visible, that is to see the rest of 10 items need to scroll down. 2) Before scrolling swap two items, say myItems[0], it must be visible & myItems[20], it must be not visible scroll required. 3) Now select the first item, it was swapped, you now have two items selected, both 0 indexed and 20 indexed ones. When after swap, those two list view items are of same Position and same Bounds. But before 20-indexed item's Position was (-1, -1) and Bounds was (0,0,0,0). How come 0-indexed item didn't change its position & size? How to solve this ?

  I need to dynamically create Dijits to add N rules to a particular form. Currently I am adding them with the following javascript. var value = new dijit.form.Select({ id: "value_" + counter, store: ValueStore, searchAttr: "description" }, "stateSelect" + counter); value.placeAt(form, "last"); value.startup(); This is creating the element correctly in the form, but it is not associated when the form actually posts. I know Dojo is recognizing the Dijit because the styling is correct. How can I make sure they are included in the DOM form?

This query i supposed to insert two different passengers in a database on two different flights. I'm sure both seats aren't taken, but i can't figure out why the trigger is giving me the error.   I usually use ORM instead of SQL and I am slightly out of touch on the different JOINs... I use the Zend Framework and would usually use Zend_Db_Table_Row::find(Parent|Dependent)Row(set)('TableClass') but I have to make lots of joins and I thought it'll improve performance by doing it all in one query instead of hundreds... Can I improve the above query by using more appropriate JOINs or a different implementation? Many thanks.

• SQL Query - 20mil records - Best practice to return information

  I have a SQL database that has the following table: Table: PhoneRecords ID(identity Seed) FirstName LastName PhoneNumber ZipCode Very simple straight forward table. This table has over 20million records. I am looking for the best way to do queries that pull out records based off area codes from the table. For instance here is an example query that I have done. SELECT phonenumber, firstname FROM [PhoneRecords] WHERE (phone LIKE '2012042%') OR (phone LIKE '2012046%') OR (phone LIKE '2012047%') OR (phone LIKE '2012083%') OR (phone LIKE '2012088%') OR (phone LIKE '2012841%') As you can see this is an ugly query, but it would get the job done (if I wasn't running into timeout issues) Can anyone tell me the best way for speed/optimization to do the above query to display the results? Currently that query above takes around 2 hours to complete on a 9gb 1600mhz ram, i7 930 quadcore OC'd 4.01ghz. I obviously have the computer power required to do such a query, but still takes too long for queries.

• How to debug Fluent nHibernate

  Hi, I'm having some trouble with Fluent nHibernate. I added a column to a table and I thought I'd correctly changed the mappings and the connected data objects to correctly reflect this. However when I tried to run my application again I kept getting this error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid column name 'Workflow_id'. I really couldn't see what the problem was with the changes I'd made so I reverted back to the original versions of the mapping and data object files from source control and removed the offending column from the database. But I'm still getting the same error. I'd like some advice on how to debug this. The SQL that gets reported on the error is semi-nonsensical: SELECT regions0_.Page_id as Page5_1_, regions0_.Id as Id1_, regions0_.Id as Id27_0_, regions0_.RegionId as RegionId27_0_, regions0_.RegionTemplate_id as RegionTe3_27_0_, regions0_.Workflow_id as Workflow4_27_0_ FROM [Region] regions0_ WHERE regions0_.Page_id=? And it won't execute as valid SQL anyway. Any ideas as to where to go from here?

• Use LINQ to count the number of combinations existing in two lists

  I'm trying to create a LINQ query (or queries) that count the total number of occurences of a combinations of items in one list that exist in a different list. For example, take the following lists: CartItems DiscountItems ========= ============= AAA AAA AAA BBB AAA BBB BBB CCC CCC DDD The result of the query operation should be 2 since I can find two combinations of AAA and BBB (from DiscountItems) within the contents of CartItems. My thinking in approaching the query is to join the lists together to shorten CartItems to only include items from DiscountItems. The solution would be to find the CartItem in the resulting query that occurs the least amount of times, thus indicating how many combinations of items exist in CartItems. How can this be done? Here's the query I already have, but it's not working. query results in an enumeration with 100 items, far more than I expected.   We are going to create History Mechanism for our changes in DB (DART in pic) via Triggers. we have 600 tables. Each record that will be changed - the trigger will insert the deleted one into XXX. regarding to the XXX : option 1 : clone each table in "Dart" DB and each table now will have a "sister table" e.g. : Table1 will have Table1_History problems : we will have 1200 tables programmer can do mistakes by working on wrong tables... option 2 : make a new DB (DART_2005 in pic) and the history tables will be there option 3 : use linked server which stores the Db which will contain the history tables. question : 1) which option gives the best performance ( I guess 3 is not - but is it 1 or 2 or same ?) 2) Does option 2 is acting like "linked server" ( in queries we will need to select from both DB's...) 3) What is the best practice approach ?

  I have a report (Reporting Services) integrated into an ASP.NET that shows dropdownlists to select report parameter values. The dropdownlists are populated using direct database selects, though I see the report RDL files do contain the paramter values and datasets as defined in the report designer. Is it possible to obtain the report parameters "available values" in ASP.NET to populate the dropdownlists? This would avoid some code duplication. Update If the parameter doesn't use a query for available values, the following works: foreach (ValidValue value in this.ReportViewerControl.ServerReport.GetParameters()["myParameter"].ValidValues) { this.DropDownListControl.Items.Add(new ListItem(value.Label, value.Value)); } Still haven't found a way to access report datasets though...

  I have two tables: Stores and Items. The relationship is: Stores 1---* Items In PHP/MySQL what would be the best (fastest/simplest) way to check if a particular item belongs to a particular store. In other words given for example: $store_id = 1; $item_id = 12; I want to check if item 12 belongs to store 1 (and not some other store). I usually do a select on Items matching both the store_id and item_id and limit the results to 1. Then check how many rows (0 or 1) were returned with mysql_num_rows. Is there a better way? Update: Both tables have an "id" column. The Items table has a "store_id" column.

• Can I prevent iPhone from using 3G under any circumstances?

  I'm writing a travel guide related app that will download large databases (60meg) potentially overseas, with the reachability code I can tell when a host is reachable via wifi or 3g BUT I'm worried that if for some reason the wifi connection breaks for a minute or so as some DSL connections are likely to do on occasion the iphone will switch transparently to 3G and without realising I could be racking up someones phone bill with overseas data charges! So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience, in the event of such break in wifi connectivity (wifi still works but it's connection to the net is down) would the reachability code report ReachableViaWWAN? So I could wait till my download code returns, check how the host is currently reachable and if it's via 3g I could abort? Is it possible to select what type of connection I can use aka 3g or wifi exclusively?

  Hi guys.. The question im struggling with is this: i have a list of helicopter names in different charters and i need to find out WHICH helicopter has the least amount of charters booked. Once i find that out i need to ONLY display the one that has the least. I so far have this: SELECT Helicopter_Name COUNT (Distinct Charter_NUM) FROM Charter_Table GROUP BY Helicopter Name ^ this is where i am stuck, i realise MIN could be used to pick out the value that is the smallest but i am not sure how to integrate this into the command. There is a cell containing a concatenated name and surname (don't ask why), for example: Cell A2 BLOGGSJOE On this cell, I would like to run the following SQL and output it to cell A3, A4 and A5 SELECT i.id, i.forename, i.surname FROM individual i WHERE UPPER(REPLACE('" & A2 & "', ' ', '')) = UPPER(REPLACE(i.surname|| i.forename, ' ', '')) AND NVL(i.ind_efface, 'N') = 'N' Any idea how I could perform an oracle query on each cell and return the result? I have enabled an oracle datasource connection in Excel, just not sure what to do now. Is this a stupid approach, and can you recommend a better more proficient way? Thanks muchly! I lack the necessary experience in this type of thing! :-) EDIT: I am aware that I could just write a simple ruby/php/python/whatever script to loop through the excel spreadsheet (or csv file), and then perform the query etc. but i thought there might be a quick way in excel itself.

• Styling the selection color of an input type=text, possible?

  Having an input <input type="text" id="myTest" value="bla bla bla"/> and doing this (using jQuery) $('#myTest').select(); causes "bla bla bla" to be selected with default dark blue selection color. Now, is there any way I can change this color using css? css3 can change selection using for instance ::-moz-selection { background: #ffb7b7; } but this only works on text in other elements, not in html inputs. Any ideas? /T

• MySQL: Get only count of result set.

  I am using MVC with PHP/MySQL. Suppose I am using 10 functions with different queries for fetching details from the database. But at other times I may want to get only the count of the result that will be returned by the query. What is the standard way to handle such situation. Should I write 10 more functions which duplicate almost whole query and return only the count. Or Should I always return the count also with the result set Or I can pass a flag to indicate that the function should return count only, and then based on the flag I will dynamically generate the (select part of) query. Or Is there a better way?

  I know how to make my own application transparent using Layered Windows but I want to make a different application transparent (for example notepad). I wrote code like this but it doesn't work with other windows except my app main window: SetWindowLongPtr(WindowFromPoint(p), GWL_EXSTYLE, GetWindowLongPtr(hWnd, GWL_EXSTYLE) | WS_EX_LAYERED); SetLayeredWindowAttributes(WindowFromPoint(p), 0, (255 * 50) / 100, LWA_ALPHA); where p is a point on screen ( for example the window I select with my mouse ) I am also interested if there is a way to do this directly from Windows 7 (not necessarily programmatic). I figure there must be a way to do it since every application is rendered in it's own surface and DWM composites them into the final image.

  I have 3 tables (follows, postings, users) follows has 2 fields - profile_id , following_id postings has 3 fields - post_id, profile_id, content users has 3 fields - profile_id, first_name, last_name I have a follows.profile_id value of 1 that I want to match against. When I run the SQL statement below I get the 1st step in obtaining the correct data. However, I now want to match the postings.profile_id of this resulting set against the users table so each of the names (first and last name) are displayed as well for all the listed postings.
