• Invalid view state exception in asp.net. do you know any solution?

• is_tarfile() returns True for a blank file

  Hello all, I am testing some logic to handle a user uploading a TAR file. When I feed a blank file to tarfile.is_tarfile() it returns True, which is not what I am expecting: $ touch tartest $ cat tartest $ python -c "import tarfile; print tarfile.is_tarfile('tartest')" True If I add some text to the file, it returns False, which I am expecting: $ echo "not a tar" > tartest $ python -c "import tarfile; print tarfile.is_tarfile('tartest')" False I could add a check at the beginning to check for a zero-length file, but based on the documentation for tarfile.is_tarfile(name) I think this is unecessary: Return True if name is a tar archive file, that the tarfile module can read. I went so far as to check the source, tarfile.py, and I can see that it is checking header blocks but I do not fully understand how it is evaluating those blocks. Am I misreading the documentation and therefore setting unfair expectations? Thank you, Zachary

  Hi all see my code snippet below: var list = ['one', 'two', 'three', 'four']; var str = 'one two, one three, one four, one]; for ( var i = 0; i < list.length; i++) { if (str.endsWith(list[i]) { str = str.replace(list[i], 'finsih') } } I want to replace the last occurence of the word one with the word finish in the string, what I have will not work because the replace method will only replace the first occurence of it. Does anyone know how I can amend that snippet so that it only replaces the last instance of 'one' Thank you Ruth

What is a similar algorithm for the distance between two strings with similar subsequences? For example, in quickbrownfox brownquickfox the Levenshtein distance is 10, but this takes no account of the fact that the strings have two similar subsequences, which makes them more "similar" than completely disordered words like quickbrownfox qburiocwknfox and yet the completely disordered version has a Levenshtein distance of eight. What distance measures exist which take the length of subsequences into account, without assuming that the subsequences can be easily broken into distinct words?

• Java dropping half of UDP packets

  Greetings, I have a simple client/server setup. The server is in C and the client that is querying the server is Java. My problem is that, when I send bandwidth-intensive data over the connection, such as Video frames, it drops up to half the packets. I make sure that I properly fragment the udp packets on the server side (udp has a max payload length of 2^16). I verified that the server is sending the packets (printf the result of sendto()). But java doesn't seem to be getting half the data. Furthermore, when I switch to TCP, all the video frames get through but the latency starts to build up, adding several seconds delay after a few seconds of runtime. Is there anything obvious that I'm missing? I just can't seem to figure this out. Thanks, Andrew

• The right way to manage subviews in a UIControl

  (iPhone SDK 3.x:) I have a UIControl subclass that creates a different number of subviews depending on the length of an NSArray property. Please take my word for it that this needs to be a UIControl rather than a UIView. Currently I implement subview management in drawRect, beginning by removing all subviews and then creating the appropriate number based on the property. I don't think this is very good memory management and I'm not sure if drawRect is really the appropriate place to add subviews. Any thoughts on the best way to handle this pattern? Thank you.

• struts2 StringLengthFieldValidator annotation not working for empty string

  Let's say I have this annotation for a struts2 validation: @StringLengthFieldValidator(key = "key14", fieldName = "poNumber", minLength = "1", maxLength = "255", message = "poNumber must be between 1 and 255 characters.") public void setPoNumber(String poNumber) { this.poNumber = poNumber; } The behavior I'm seeing is that if I pass a string that is empty to this setter, (ex. setPoNumber("")) the validator doesn't catch the error. Strings that are over 255 are caught fine. Equally strange is if I change minLength to 2 and pass a string of length 1, it will catch the error as well. But empty string does not seem to be caught when minLength = "1". For this reason, I cannot use this validator. I just wondered if I'm doing something wrong. I'm using struts 2.1.8.1.   Hi, I read about Big-O Notation from here and had few questions on calculating the complexity.So for the below code i have calculated the complexity. need your inputs for the same. private void reverse(String strToRevers) { if(strToRevers.length() == 0) { return ; } else { reverse(strToRevers.substring(1)); System.out.print(strToRevers.charAt(0)); } } If the memory factor is considered then the complexity of above code for a string of n characters is O(n^2). The explanation is for a string that consists of n characters, the below function would be called recursively n-1 times and each function call creates a string of single character(stringToReverse.charAT(0)). Hence it is n*(n-1)*2 which translates to o(n^2). Let me know if this is right ?

  To generate a valid pairwise master key for a WPA2 network a router uses the PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA1 algorithm. I understand that the sha1 function is performed 4096 times to derive the PMK, however I have two questions about the process. Excuse the pseudo code. 1) How is the input to the first instance of the SHA1 function formatted? SHA1("network_name"+"network_name_length"+"network_password") Is it formatted in that order, is it the hex value of the network name, length and password or straight ASCII? Then from what I gather the 160 bit digest received is fed straight into another round of hashing without any additional salting. Like this: SHA1("160bit digest from last round of hashing") Rise and repeat. 2) Once this occurs 4096 times 256 bits of the output is used as the pairwise master key. What I don't understand is that if SHA1 produces 160bit output, how does the algorithm arrive at the 256bits required for a key? Thanks for the help.

  Within a method, I am using i and j as temporary variables while calculating other variables. What is an idiomatic way of getting rid of i and j once they are no longer needed? Should I use blocks for this purpose? i = positions.first while nucleotide_at_position(i-1) == nucleotide_at_position(i) raise "Assumption violated" if i == 1 i -= 1 end first_nucleotide_position = i j = positions.last while nucleotide_at_position(j+1) == nucleotide_at_position(j) raise "Assumption violated" if j == sequence.length j += 1 end last_nucleotide_position = j Background: I'd like to get rid of i and j once they are no longer needed so that they aren't used by any other code in the method. Gives my code less opportunity to be wrong. I don't know the name of the concept - is it "encapsulation"? The closest concepts I can think of are (warning: links to TV Tropes - do not visit while working) Chekhov'sGun or YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness. Another alternative would be to put the code into their own methods, but that may detract from readability.

E.g., Emails: [email protected] [email protected] Salaries: 50000 60000 IDs: 2 1 The puzzle: I'd like to sort Emails such that [email protected] is first and [email protected] is last and Salaries is 60000 then 50000 and IDs is 1 then 2. Additional detail: 1. Length of lists are the same and can be longer than two elements. 2. I will subsequently pass IDs to functions to retrieve further lists. Those lists won't need sorting as they will adopt the order of the IDs list.

• What is technically more advanced: Python or Assembler? [closed]

  I wondered which of these languages is more powerful. With powerful I don't mean the readability, assembler would be naturally the winner here, but something resulting from, for example, the following factors: Which of them is more high-level? (Both aren't really but one has to be more) Who would be the possibly fastest in compiled state? (There is no Python compiler out there as far as I know but it wouldn't be hard writing one I suppose) Which of the both has the better code length/code action ratio? What I mean is If you get to distracted by the, compared to Python, improved readability of assembler, just think of writing plain binary/machine code as what assembler assembles to. Both languages are so basic that it should be possible to answer the question(s) in a rather objective view, I hope.

• getline at a certain line for file IO

  Is there anyway to use getline to read a specific line within a file? For instance, to immediately read line #20? It seems inefficient to do any type of look to read and discard earlier lines. I know about fseek, but there is no guarantee that the records will be the same length on each line. I imagine this is simply what is required in order to find lines. After all, to know when the end of the line has been reached, it needs to find the break line character, so it makes sense for it to need to read each line. Just wondering if there was any quicker method.

I'd like to distinguish the nesting level of functions by indenting their output strings each time I dive into the function (it's implemented easily having a static int indentlevel; variable, which is incremented at the beginning of a function, used as a space-filler-count and decremented at the end). But the flaw is that once the output line becomes too long to be wrapped at the console edge, lines' wrapped parts start at column 1 of the console. Should I take care about this, since once the output is redirected to a file, lines are, say, one-line-length, and widths of the lines depend only on the text file viewer settings?

• Is there ever a reason to use Goto in modern .NET code?

  I just found this code in reflector in the .NET base libraries... if (this._PasswordStrengthRegularExpression != null) { this._PasswordStrengthRegularExpression = this._PasswordStrengthRegularExpression.Trim(); if (this._PasswordStrengthRegularExpression.Length == 0) { goto Label_016C; } try { new Regex(this._PasswordStrengthRegularExpression); goto Label_016C; } catch (ArgumentException exception) { throw new ProviderException(exception.Message, exception); } } this._PasswordStrengthRegularExpression = string.Empty; Label_016C: ... //Other stuff I've heard all of the "thou shalt not use goto on fear of exile to hell for eternity" spiel. I always held MS coders in fairly high regard and while I may not have agreed with all of their decisions, I always respected their reasoning. So - is there a good reason for code like this that I'm missing, or was this code extract just put together by a shitty developer? I'm hoping there is a good reason, and I'm just blindly missing it.
