• Row Count Plus Transformation

  As the name suggests we have taken the current Row Count Transform that is provided by Microsoft in the Integration Services toolbox and we have recreated the functionality and extended upon it. There are two things about the current version that we thought could do with cleaning up Lack of a custom UI You have to type the variable name yourself In the Row Count Plus Transformation we solve these issues for you. Another thing we thought was missing is the ability to calculate the time taken between components in the pipeline. An example usage would be that you want to know how many rows flowed between Component A and Component B and how long it took. Again we have solved this issue. Credit must go to Erik Veerman of Solid Quality Learning for the idea behind noting the duration. We were looking at one of his packages and saw that he was doing something very similar but he was using a Script Component as a transformation. Our philosophy is that if you have to write or Copy and Paste the same piece of code more than once then you should be thinking about a custom component and here it is. The Row Count Plus Transformation populates variables with the values returned from; Counting the rows that have flowed through the path Returning the time in seconds between when it first saw a row come down this path and when it saw the final row. It is possible to leave both these boxes blank and the component will still work.   All input columns are passed through the transformation unaltered, you are not permitted to change or add to the inputs or outputs of this component. Optionally you can set the component to fire an event, which happens during the PostExecute phase of the execution. This can be useful to improve visibility of this information, such that it is captured in package logging, or can be used to drive workflow in the case of an error event. Properties Property Data Type Description OutputRowCountVariable String The name of the variable into which the amount of row read will be passed (Optional). OutputDurationVariable String The name of the variable into which the duration in seconds will be passed. (Optional). EventType RowCountPlusTransform.EventType The type of event to fire during post execute, included in which are the row count and duration values. RowCountPlusTransform.EventType Enumeration Name Value Description None 0 Do not fire any event. Information 1 Fire an Information event. Warning 2 Fire a Warning event. Error 3 Fire an Error event. Installation The component is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. For 2005/2008 Only - Finally you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Data Flow Items tab, and then check the Row Count Plus Transformation in the Choose Toolbox Items window. We recommend you follow best practice and apply the current Microsoft SQL Server Service pack to your SQL Server servers and workstations, and this component requires a minimum of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1. • Wireless Connected But No Internet Connection (Ubuntu 12.04)

  I am using same network for 2 days and everything was normal. However, today even though it shows me as connected to the network, I do not have internet connection. If I use ethernet cable instead of wireless, I am still able to connect to the internet. Also my friends are able to connect to the wireless network and they can get internet connection. I did not update or install anything since yesterday. Therefore I do not have any idea why it is happening. • DOS Batch script loop

  I need to execute a command 100-200 times, so far my research indicates that I would either have to copy paste 100 copies of this command, OR use a FOR loop, but the for loop expects a list of items, hence I would need 200 files to operate on, or a list of 200 items, hence defeating the point. I would really not have to write a C program and go through the length of documenting why I had to write another program to execute my program for test purposes. Modification of my program itself is also no an option. So, given a command how would I execute it times via a DOS batch script?

• How does one inject variables into page templates from a custom Drupal module?

  We've created a custom module for organizing and publishing our newsletter content. The issue I'm running into now -- and I'm new to theming and Drupal module development, so it could just be a knowledge issue as opposed to a Drupal issue -- is how to get each newsletter themed. At this point the URL structure of our newsletter will be: /newsletters/{newsletter-name}/{edition-name}/{issue-date} which means that we can create template files in our theme using filenames like page-newsletters-{newsletter-name}-{edition-name}.tpl.php, which is great. The one issue I'm running into is that all of the content comes through in the $content variable of the theme. I'd like to have it come through as different variables (so that I can, inside the theme, place certain content in certain areas.) Is there a proper way for doing this?

• MouseOver Trigger firing on ContextMenu with overridden ControlTemplate. Where is it coming from?

However, when I point the mouse over a contextmenu a MouseOver Trigger fires from somewhere that draws a terribly ugly nearly square border on top of my nifty rounded border! Where is it coming from?? EDIT: The most likely cause is that the ContextMenu is an ItemsControl that holds MenuItems, even when my ContextMenu holds a single UserControl. So the UserControl is seen as a MenuItem and highlighted when the IsMouseOver==true! What is the easiest way to disable this behaviour?

  I have some experience creating iphone applications and would now like to create an iphone book application. Browsing the Book category in iTunes it seems to there is a standard format for building these apps, however, googling for how to build an iphone book app produces no useful results. This type of application is also not addressed in any of the iphone development books I've seen. Is there a standard method fot building these book applications? Or is it simply copying the text is some format (pdf, txt, html?) and then writing a document handling api? It seems there already must exist apis for doing this.   Hi I'm trying to create a bookmarklet which will use the jquery-ui - what steps must I take to do this? My bookmarklet loads a remote script and appends it to the page. This script includes jquery and jquery-ui, but getting the stylesheets and images is turning into a nightmare. Do I have to edit all the CSS to point images to their locations on the remote server? Effectively what I'm trying to do is have a bookmarklet which will pop up some information in a nice pretty draggable jquery-ui dialog. Is there an easier way? Thanks, Mala

  There are two questions which I get every single day multiple times. In my gmail, I have created standard canned reply for them. Let us see the questions here. I want to delete from multiple table in a single statement how will I do it? I want to update multiple table in a single statement how will I do it? The answer is – No, You cannot and you should not. SQL Server does not support deleting or updating from two tables in a single update. If you want to delete or update two different tables – you may want to write two different delete or update statements for it. This method has many issues – from the consistency of the data to SQL syntax. Now here is the real reason for this blog post – yesterday I was asked this question again and I replied my canned answer saying it is not possible and it should not be any way implemented that day. In the response to my reply I was pointed out to my own blog post where user suggested that I had previously mentioned this is possible and with demo example. Let us go over my conversation – you may find it interesting. Let us call the user DJ. DJ: Pinal, can we delete multiple table in a single statement or with single delete statement? Pinal: No, you cannot and you should not. DJ: Oh okey, if that is the case, why do you suggest to do that? Pinal: (baffled) I am not suggesting that. • Is it possible to do AJAX calls in a liquid template?

  I'm looking at the liquid templating language for Rails apps: http://wiki.github.com/tobi/liquid/ I'd like my users to also be able to make AJAX calls (just like the ones in rails for periodically_call_remote, observe_field, etc). Is this possible? Assuming the rails helpers can be added as filters, how will the user be able to modify what gets returned by the AJAX call? They cannot modify an rjs file on the server or anything like that. I suppose the AJAX call could return JSON (instead of rendered html) and then the javascript could use that to render something. But I'm having a little trouble envisioning how it would work exactly. If anyone can point me to an example of this or clarify it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

  I'm using Kohana 2. I would like to catch a database exception to prevent an error page when no connection to the server can be established. The error displayed is system/libraries/drivers/Database/Mysql.php [61]: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 110 The database server is not reachable at all at this point. I'm doing this from a model. I tried both public function __construct() { // load database library into $this->db try { parent::__construct(); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } } as well as try { $hoststatus = $this->db->query('SELECT x FROM y WHERE z;'); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } ...but none of them seemed to work. It seems as if no exception gets passed on from the main model. Is there another way to catch the database error and use my own error handling?

What I have now is : 2 Jboss Instances, running in all mode One load balancer with apache and mod_jk, as suggested by Jboss docs A spring/flex integration app A flex application that I do not want to throw errors when one of my JBoss instances falls I find Adobe documentation really lacking, and being new at clustering, jgroups and balancing I cannot find how to deploy my app in clustered environment. From what I understood if configured correctly blazeds should tell flex client about failover servers upon connection. Then if flex client can't connect to the main server it goes to another. But the hard part for me is getting there. Can someone point me to the right direction? Thanks in advance

• Do FormViews not respond to commands issued from an ImageButton?

  I am using ImageButtons in place of LinkButtons in a FormView to issue New/Edit/Delete/Cancel commands, but they don't seem to have an effect on the FormView. The ImageButtons will cause a postback but the FormView mode doesn't change from the current mode. I'm sure the ImageButtons were working at one point, but I've been busy with other pages for a while. The only thing that's changed between now and then are some patches I installed in Visual Studio. I haven't been able to find any information related to this issue other than this: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/webforms/TamingTheFormView.aspx In that article there's an onclick method for an ImageButton that's used to change the FormView mode. Would that be the only way to use ImageButtons instead of LinkButtons in a FormView?

• Should I replace string patterns in asp.net mvc using a custom viewengine?

  Have an ASP.NET MVC site that is localized. The localization functionality adds the two digit language ID to the URL, e.g. /es/Page. If no language Id is found in the URL, the site switches to the user's browser culture. All's good. However, the site's hyperlinks, a mixture of hard-coded href tags, actionlinks, etc., don't include the base language ID, so when clicking through the site the set culture is lost, and the site reverts to the user's browser culture. My (lazy) thought is to replace all href values, that don't point to an external site, with the localized URL (e.g. include the /es/). Otherwise, all site links will need to be updated to include the culture code. Is this just plain dumb? Or, reasonable, and should be done using a custom view engine, or some other approach?

• WCF - WebReferences not working

  At the client end, I have generated a Proxy using SvcUtil.exe and it is working fine. Then I have added a WebReference to the client assembly and calling the same method. But it is not working. My program is running in console mode and the method is suppose to return a string. It is not returning the string. I just see a blank console window. No exception is thrown. And after setting a debug point on the method call I see that, program is halted on the method call for ever. What should I look for to solve the problem? I am using VS2005. And adding the webReference by right-clicking the client project and then clicking "Add Web Reference" pop-up menu.

  I'm looking Specifically for some detailed information on RETSBond Integrator (RI) or something similar. Has anyone used it? Drawbacks? benefits? What I need is something that provides a PHP API out of the box or some kind of RPC exposure. This thing seems to provide an API for batching the MLS server and putting in my own DB which is acceptable although ideally I'd prefer something totally external. Do any MLS services provide that that you are aware of? I realize this is somewhat subjective but I'm looking for a starting point on different services/vendors to research.

• Windows Server 2008 R2: ASP queries to IIS fail with UAC enabled

  I have some ASP code that creates a virtual directory in IIS. However, when running on IIS7 in Windows Server 2008 R2, the call to GetObject fails with "permission denied". This only occurs when UAC is enabled; the entire process works perfectly if UAC is disabled. Set objIIS = GetObject("IIS://localhost/W3SVC/" & siteNumber & "/Root") siteNumber itself is a valid parameter (as the system works fine if UAC is off). Any ideas of a workaround I can make for this? Unfortunately turning off UAC at this point is not an option.

• XAMPP or MAMP on Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard)

  I just bought a new MacBook Pro which comes with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 (Mac OS X 10.6.2). I am used to using XAMPP as my local development server on XP. Since Mac OS X is based on Unix, I was thinking on activating/installing all the necessary stuff as I would normally do on Linux. However, I am not quite ready to be playing around with the system at this point so having an external package would be a nice temporary solution I think. The question is whether I should go with MAMP or XAMPP. Does anybody have any suggestions? The Pro and Cons I suppose. As far as I know, Mac OS X comes with Apache2 and PHP5. Would MAMP or XAMPP modify the existing Apache and PHP installation? Any comments on how I should proceed? PS: Eventually I would use the default installation of Apache and PHP, and install a binary package of MySQL but time for development is an essence and I don't have time to familiarize myself with Mac OS X.

• Getting website data into Adobe InDesign

  I'd like our magazine team to be able to download website data in a file that Adobe InDesign can read. They can then import/open the file, make a few tweaks, and cut out a vast deal of repetitive manual labour (they currently use copy&paste for a few hours). After a brief Google I note that v2 of InDesign can import/export XML so perhaps that is my best bet? Are there any alternatives, and can anyone offer any advice on them? I am using a PC, and the magazine team are on Macs; testing will be tiresome I fear. The data we wish to format is fairly simple - a title followed by a short chunk of text (repeated about 50 times, say). I'll ask about importing images later. Thanks for your help. I will return to Google now, but it would be great if anyone can point me in a more specific direction first!

• HTTP status code for "success with errors"?

  I've poked around a bit, but I don't see an HTTP status code for when a request's succeeds, but there is an error after the "point of no return". e.g., Say you process a request, its committed to the database, but while returning the result you run of memory, or encounter a NPE, or what have you. It would have been a 200 response, but now, internally, you aren't able to return the proper, well-formed response. 202 Accepted doesn't seem to fit since we've already processed the request. What status code means "Success, but errors"? Does one even exist?
