    In my search for a good, freely available resource that will teach me C++ I stumbled on http://www.learncpp.com/. My question is for intermediate to experienced C++ programmers... Does this site seem to be a good resource for a beginner to learn C++ from? I've gone through the first few section of the site, and I feel like I am starting to grasp the language, but being a beginner in C++ I really could be learning things all wrong and have no idea.

    Right now I am writing a simulation program which output is formatted according to certain factors. The question is in a MVC architecture, where is the conditional formatting to be taken place? What are some strategies for implement this feature? FYI, The platform I am using is rather bare-bone in its GUI/front-end execution. To change color and formatting, it requires a change to the formatting state (much like OpenGL).

  • In MySQL how can I tell what character set a particular table is using?

    I have a large mysql table that I think might be using the wrong character set. If so I'll need to change it using ALTER TABLE mytable CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 But since this is a very large table, I'd rather not run this command unless I have to. So my question is, how can I ask mysql what the character set is on a particular table? I can call status in mysql to see the database's character set, but that doesn't necessarily mean all the tables have the same character set, right?

  • Using Javascript, How do I bring an already existing open window to the front on top of other window

    The question was fairly descriptive but I'll describe it further. Basically, I have Window1, clicking a button link opens window2. Clicking a button in window2 opens window3, clicking a button in window3 should bring window2 back to the front of the screen on top of window2. I'm not sure how this is exactly done, however I have used and played around with focus(), opener and other various methods and I cannot seem to get it to work properly. Thanks for any help in advance!

  • Synthesized property of a protocol not seeing superclass' ivar

    I have a situation where my subclass is not seeing the superclass' instance variable x. The ivar is obviously @protected by default, so why do I get a compiler error "x undeclared"? - (CGSize)hitSize { // Compiler error return size; } EDIT: hitSize is a property of a protocol my subclass is conforming to. The problem was that I had hitSize @synthesized, which was the culprit. The question then is why can't the synthesized getter see the ivar?

  • CSS image float div problem in IE6

    In the bottom cap of this page (bottom with corners) I seem to be having a weird IE6 issue. I've tried Google with no luck, as really, how do you ask this question.   • Using a constructor for return.

    Hi, Just a quick question. I've written some code that returns a custom class Command, and the code I've written seems to work fine. I was wondering if there are any reasons that I shouldn't be doing it this way. It's something like this: Command Behavior::getCommand () { char input = 'x'; return Command (input, -1, -1); } Anyway, I read that constructors aren't meant to have a return value, but this works in g++.     Hi, this is probably a very stupid question; in a bash script, given the output of, for instance; awk '{print $7}' temp it gives 0.54546 I would like to give this to a variable, so I tried: read ENE <<< $(awk '{print $7}' temp) but I get Syntax error: redirection unexpected Could you tell me why, and what is the easiest way to do this assignment?     I have the following if condition statement if ( (strlen($data[70])>0) || ( (remove19((trim($data[29])) == '7135556666')) && isLongDistance($data[8])) ) where $data is a recordset from a database. My goal is to include all rows where $data[70] isn't blank, and also include rows where $data[29] = 713555666 && $data[8] isLongDistance = TRUE My question is, if isLongDistance($data[8]) returns false, will it still return the row since $data[70] is not blank? thanks in advance

    my primay key is user_id which is auto incremant UNSIGNED ZERO FILL, i want to display user_id on a page without leading Zero( means 1 instead of 0000000001 ).. how can we do that in php or in mysql one more question... if i delete last record( let user_id=21) wwhich have highest id of that table then can we adjust auto increment value to 21 instead of 22 of that table.

  • What are the limitations of a STA thread in compare to MTA threads ?

    If we make a thread STA like this: Thread.SetApartmentState(STA); then it cannot run code marked with [MTAThread] attribute. We have seen [STAThread] in windows and console applications but I have never seen code with [MTAThread] attribute and don't know which .NET libraries use this attribute. My question is what are the limitations of a thread with apartment state set to STA, in compare to threads with MTA apartment state (natural .NET threads) ?
