  • How do I modify an attribute across all rows in a table?

    - by prgmatic
Hi folks, My apologies for asking such a novice question but, I need help building a script using either PHP or directly in MySQL that can do the following: Take the values of a column in a table (text) Change them into capitalized words (from "this is a title" to "This Is A Title") Replace the old values (uncapitalized) with the new values (capitalized). Thanks for the help and support.

  • How can I get "Copy to Output Directory" to work with Unit Tests?

    - by spoon16
When I build a unit test project before the tests are executed the test output is copied to a TestResults folder and then the tests are executed. The issue I'm having is that not all the files in the Debug/bin directory are copied to the TestResults project. How can I get a file that is copied to the Debug/bin directory to also be copied to the TestResults folder? EDIT: Here is a link to a similar question on another site (no answer there though), http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29316967/files-and-unit-testing-wi.aspx

  • Generic linked list in c++

    - by itsaboy
I have been struggling for too long a time now with a rather simple question about how to create a generic linked list in c++. The list should be able contain several types of structs, but each list will only contain one type of struct. The problem arises when I want to implement the getNode() function [see below], because then I have to specify which of the structs it should return. I have tried to substitute the structs with classes, where the getNode function returns a base class that is inherited by all the other classes, but it still does not do the trick, since the compiler does not allow the getNode function to return anything but the base class then. So here is some code snippet: typedef struct struct1 { int param1; (...) } struct1; typedef struct struct2 { double param1; (...) } struct2; typedef struct node { struct1 data; node* link; } node; class LinkedList { public: node *first; int nbrOfNodes; LinkedList(); void addNode(struct1); struct1 getNode(); bool isEmpty(); }; LinkedList::LinkedList() { first = NULL; nbrOfNodes = 0; } void LinkedList::addNode(struct1 newData) { if (nbrOfNodes == 0) { first = new node; first->data = newData; } else { node *it = first; for (int i = 0; i < nbrOfNodes; i++) { it = it->link; } node *newNode = new node; newNode->data = newData; it->link = newNode; } nbrOfNodes++; } bool LinkedList::isEmpty() { return !nbrOfNodes; } struct1 LinkedList::getNode() { param1 returnData = first->data; node* deleteNode = first; nbrOfNodes--; if (nbrOfNodes) first = deleteNode->link; delete deleteNode; return returnData; } So the question, put in one sentence, is as follows: How do I adjust the above linked list class so that it can also be used for struct2, without having to create a new almost identical list class for struct2 objects? As I said above, each instance of LinkedList will only deal with either struct1 or struct2. Grateful for hints or help

  • Should I be regularly shrinking my DB or at least my log file?

    - by Tom
My question is, should I be running one or both of the shrink command regularly, DBCC SHRINKDATABASE OR DBCC SHRINKFILE ============================= background Sql Server: Database is 200 gigs, logs are 150 gigs. running this command SELECT name ,size/128.0 - CAST(FILEPROPERTY(name, 'SpaceUsed') AS int) / 128.0 AS AvailableSpaceInMB FROM sys.database_files;` produces this output.. MyDB: 159.812500 MB free MyDB_Log: 149476.390625 MB free So it seems there is some free space. We backup transaction logs every hour, diff backup 5 nights a week, full backup the other 2 nights of the week.

  • Mysql concurrency: what happens if a locked table is accessed?

    - by PixelSapiens
the question is rather simple but I couldn't find a precise answer: in a myisam db, what happens if a php file locks a table (with an atomic operation, say an INSERT) and another php file tries to access the same table (reading or writing)? Now, while it is obvious that the second session will not be able to access the table, what exactly happens? Does it return some kind of error? Does is wait in queue until it is able to access it? Thanks in advance!

  • Why do I need to call new?

    - by cam
It seems like I could program something without ever using the word 'new', and I would never have to worry about deleting anything either. From what I understand, it's because I would run out of stack memory. Is this correct? I guess my main question is, when should I call 'new'?

  • The behavior of send() and recv() in socket communication

    - by gc
The following is the setup: Server Client | | accept connect | | v | send msg1- | | | v v recv <- send | | v v send msg2- recv | | v v close Here is my question: 1. Client actually receives msg1 before it closes, why is it like this? 2. send msg2 returns normally. Since client closes after receiving msg1, why is send msg2 successful?

  • Mapping over sequence with a constant

    - by Hendekagon
If I need to provide a constant value to a function which I am mapping to the items of a sequence, is there a better way than what I'm doing at present: (map my-function my-sequence (cycle [my-constant-value])) where my-constant-value is a constant in the sense that it's going to be the same for the mappings over my-sequence, although it may be itself a result of some function further out. I get the feeling that later I'll look at what I'm asking here and think it's a silly question because if I structured my code differently it wouldn't be a problem, but well there it is!

  • What is the best way to flag some elements in MATLAB? using NaN or Inf? or something else?

    - by Kamran Bigdely Shamloo
As you may know, in many occasions, there is a need to flag some elements of a matrix. For example when we have weighted adjacency matrix, and our graph is not fully connected, we have to flag some elements to show that there is no edge between those nodes. The question is how to do that? Is it better to put NaN or Inf on that elements in the matrix? or something elese(such as -1)?

  • Implementation of GNU Scientific Library?

    - by anon
Does anyone know a collection of articles or books that describes the implementation of the GNU Scientific Library? This question is not about using the GSL; it's about how the GSL is implemented, their design decisions / tradeoffs. Thanks!
