• Mysql eliminate user based on conditions

  I asked this last week over the weekend and it got buried in the archives before anyone could answer. So forgive me if you've already seen this. I teach classes and want to be able to select those students who have taken one class, but not another class. I have two tables: lessons_slots which is the table for every class such as: -------------------- -ID name slots- -1 basics 10 - -2 advanced 10 - -3 basics 10 - --------------------- The other table is class_roll, which holds enrollment info, such as: -------------------- -sID classid firstname lastname- -1 1 Jo Schmo -2 1 Person Two ... -13 2 Jo Schmo --------------------- What I want to do, I select everyone who has not had the advanced class (for example). I've tried doing SELECT * FROM lessons_slots LEFT JOIN class_roll ON lessons_slots.ID = class_roll.classid WHERE lessons_slots.name != 'advanced' But that doesn't work...All it does is eliminate that row, without eliminating the user. I want Jo Schmo, for example, to not show up in the results. Any ideas?

  Hello everyone: I am trying to implement OpenID as one preferred option to my next web app here The code is taken from this tutorial and works if I use my openID from myopenid.com However, I believe most people would just love to use their everyday email address as their openID, as far as I know, Google, Yahoo, and some other big players have already done this in their systems. My question is: how could I find the correct "url" to enter in the form to login? I used my Google OpenID account for StackOverflow and it works just fine. I try to copy my openID like this: www.google.com/accounts/o8/id?id=aitoawllano10bzdzp3ht0diffry0qt6_j2ls-m And paste it directly into my form, but it doesn't work. I also tried to remove the url parameter, but that won't do, either. Thanks a lot in advance for any tips and suggestions.

  I’m trying to model a relationship in ActiveRecord and I think it’s a little beyond my skill level. Here’s the background. This is a horse racing project and I’m trying to model a horses Connections over time. Connections are defined as the Horse’s Current: Owner, Trainer and Jockey. Over time, a horse’s connections can change for a lot of different reasons: The owner sells the horse in a private sale The horse is claimed (purchase in a public sale) The Trainer switches jockeys The owner switches trainers In my first attempt at modeling this, I created the following tables: Horses, Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Connections. Essentially, the Connections table was the has-many-through join table and was structured as follows: Connections Table 1 Id Horse_id Owner_id Trainer_id Jockey_id Status_Code Status_Date Change_Code The Horse, Owner, Trainer and Jockey foreign keys are self explanatory. The status code is 1 or 0 (1 active, 0 inactive) and the status date is the date the status changed. Change_code is and integer or string value that represent the reason for the change (private sale, claim, jockey change, etc) The key benefit of this approach is that the Connection is represented as one record in the connections table. The downside is that I have to have a table for Owner (1), Trainer (2) and Jockey (3) when one table could due. In my second attempt at modeling this I created the following tables: Horses, Connections, Entities The Entities tables has the following structure Entities Table id First_name Last_name Role where Role represents if the entity is a Owner, Trainer or Jockey. Under this approach, my Connections table has the following structure Connections Table 2 id Horse_id Entity_id Role Status_Code Status_Date Change_Code 1 1 1 1 1 1/1/2010 2 1 4 2 1 1/1/2010 3 1 10 3 1 1/1/2010 This approach has the benefit of eliminating two tables, but on the other hand the Connection is now comprised of three different records as opposed to one in the first approach. What believe I’m looking for is an approach that allows me to capture the Connection in one record, but also uses an Entities table with roles instead of the Owner, Trainer and Jockey tables. I’m new to ActiveRecord and rails so any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps there are other ways that would even be better. Thanks!

• CakePHP Bake association problem

  I have only two tables in my database with a one-to-many relationship between them (user hasMany messages) and am trying to get basic CRUD functionality going. Bake detects the associations correctly and specifies them correctly inside the model classes, but in controllers and views it looks like Cake doesn't know anything about those associations -- I don't even get a select tag for user_id when I go add a new message. Has anyone come across this problem before? What can I be doing wrong? I'm need to write an stored procedure for SQL Server 2008 for performing some huge select query and I need filter it results with specifying filtering type via procedure's parameters (parameterize where clause).   Hi, I have two tables which I would like to join by ID field. I was trying to use for this "INNER JOIN". Everything would be good but there are two issues: As a result I receive twice column ID. I have to omit specifying columns which should be displayed under select statement. I would like to use there a *. I red that other sql-s have something like natural join and that is probably (or not?) an answer for my question. Unfortunately there is no join like that in SQL Server (2005). Do anybody knows any good replacement of it?

  I'm the one-man dev team on a fledgling military history website. One aspect of the site is a catalog of ~1,200 individual battles, including the nations & formations (regiments, divisions, etc) which took part. The formation information (as well as the other battle info) was manually imported from a series of books by a 10-man volunteer team. The formations were listed in groups with varying formatting and abbreviation patterns. At the time I set up the data collection forms I couldn't think of a good way to process that data... and elected to store it all as strings in the MySQL database and sort it out later. Well, "later" - as it tends to happen - has arrived. :-) Each battle has 2+ records in the database - one for each nation that participated. Each record has a formations text string listing the formations present as the volunteer chose to add them. Some real examples: 39th Grenadier Rgmt, 26th Volksgrenadier Division 2nd Luftwaffe Field Division, 246th Infantry Division 247th Rifle Division, 255th Tank Brigade 2nd Luftwaffe Field Division, SS Cavalry Division 28th Tank Brigade, 158th Rifle Division, 135th Rifle Division, 81st Tank Brigade, 242nd Tank Brigade 78th Infantry Division 3rd Kure Special Naval Landing Force, Tulagi Seaplane Base personnel 1st Battalion 505th Infantry Regiment The ultimate goal is for each individual force to have an ID, so that its participation can be traced throughout the battle database. Formation hierarchy, such as the final item above 1st Battalion (of the) 505th Infantry Regiment also needs to be preserved. In that case, 1st Battalion and 505th Infantry Regiment would be split, but 1st Battalion would be flagged as belonging to the 505th. In database terms, I think I want to pull the formation field out of the current battle info table and create three new tables: FORMATION [id] [name] FORMATION_HIERARCHY [id] [parent] [child] FORMATION_BATTLE [f_id] [battle_id] It's simple to explain, but complicated to enact. What I'm looking for from the SO community is just some tips on how best to tackle this problem. Ideally there's some sort of method to solving this that I'm not aware of. However, as a last resort, I could always code a classification framework and call my volunteers back to sort through 2,500+ records...

  What would be your approach with NHibernate to do the following: When Comment is inserted into DB, and its property Text is inserted into column Text (due to a mapping), insert into column TextHash a hash of this property value. It seems trivial if I map TextHash, but how should I do this without mapping it? I do not need it in the domain model, its a DB-level optimization (I would use computed HashBytes if not for the length limit).

• How can I make these images download on a separate thread?

  I have the following code running on my Android device. It works great and displays my list items wonderfully. It's also clever in the fact it only downloads the data when it's needed by the ArrayAdapter. However, whilst the download of the thumbnail is occurring, the entire list stalls and you cannot scroll until it's finished downloading. Is there any way of threading this so it'll still scroll happily, maybe show a place holder for the downloading image, finish the download, and then show? When I removed the Warehouse[] from user structure, it starts to be ok again and HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated become true after I Login. What is the reason to this weird behaviour?

• Using an IBAction method when it is not called from an action?

  Are there any issues when using IBAction when it is not actually called from a user's action? If you have an action like -(IBAction)sayHello:(id)sender; You can call it from within your class like: [self sayHello:@"x"] The @"x" doesn't do anything, it just fills in for the sender. You can actually create an IBAction method without (id)sender -(IBAction)sayHello; and call it from both user's actions and from within the code, but then you won't get any useful sender info from the interface. What's the 'correct' way of filling in for the sender, when calling from the code? And can you create sender info to send when it's called from within the code? Just trying to figure it out.

  I'm trying to accomplish something similar to Wikipedia's History history page, dynamically disabling radio buttons in a series. Ie... if #4 in group two is selected, then 1-4 of group one are disabled, etc. I know how to disable them individually or as a group, but I'm not sure how to do it in a series of say 1-4: Individually: $("#version_history input[id^=versions_2_3]:radio").attr('disabled',true); or group: $("#version_history input[id^=versions_2]:radio").attr('disabled',true); The inputs are named versions_1_X and versions_2_X, X being some number. 1..2..3.. etc.

• iFrame src something other than javascript:false but same effect

  Is there any other way to write javascript:false that is more pleasant? I'm building a print functionality for an intranet app (for IE6) and I make the printed page using an iframe: $('body').append('<iframe id="printIFrame" src="javascript:false"></iframe>'); $("#printIFrame").attr('style','position:absolute;left:-500px;top:-500px;'); Without having javascript:false in the src, I'll get the "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items" popup when I create it. However the downside of this is that "javascript:false" gets printed as the title on the bottom left of each page (instead of about:blank or something more useful). Is there some kind of javascript technique that I can write javascript:false but in cleaner terms? I tried something like this var PrintOut = false; $('body').append('<iframe id="printIFrame" src="PrintOut"></iframe>'); But I couldn't get that working. Any other ideas?

• Pound symbol not displaying on web page

  Hello I have a mysql database table to store country name and currency symbol - the CHARSET has correctly set to UTF8. This is example data inserted into the table insert into country ( country_name, currency_name, currency_code, currency_symbol) values ('UK','Pounds','GBP','£'); When I look in the database - the pound symbol appears fine - but when I retrieve it from the database and display it on the website - a weird square symbol shows up with a question mark inside instead of the pound symbol.   Hi, I'm using version 2.7.0 of this WordPress plugin to display which users are currently online (the latest version doesn't work): http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-useronline/ It's working great but I would love to be able to alter it quickly to display the users' avatars instead of their names.   I have to rotate a given table from an sql server but a normal pivot just doesn't work (as far as i tried). So has anybody an idea how to rotate the table into the desired format? Just to make the problem more complicated, the list of given labels can vary and it is possible that a new label name can come into at any given time. • Weird repeater problem

  I have a Repeater control in my aspx page: <asp:Repeater ID="repeater" runat="server" EnableViewState="false"> <ItemTemplate> <%# Eval("someAttribute") %> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> On Page_Load I have the following code: if (String.IsNullOrEmpty((string)Request.QueryString["action"])) s.OpenConn("SELECT * FROM someTable;"); else s.OpenConn("SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE id=1;"); if (s.Read()) { repeater.DataSource = s.GetRead(); repeater.DataBind(); } The problem is that when I enter ?action=something, data is not displayed on the page. But if I remove ?action=something, I get all the data. Am I doing something wrong?
