  Hi my question Need to get the 10 word before and 10 words after for the given text . i mean need to start the 10 words before the keyword and end with 10 word after the key word. • Can't store UTF-8 in RDS despite setting up new Parameter Group using Rails on Heroku

  I'm setting up a new instance of a Rails(2.3.5) app on Heroku using Amazon RDS as the database. I'd like to use UTF-8 for everything. Since RDS isn't UTF-8 by default, I set up a new Parameter Group and switched the database to use that one, basically per this. Seems to have worked: SHOW VARIABLES LIKE '%character%'; character_set_client utf8 character_set_connection utf8 character_set_database utf8 character_set_filesystem binary character_set_results utf8 character_set_server utf8 character_set_system utf8 character_sets_dir /rdsdbbin/mysql-5.1.50.R3/share/mysql/charsets/ Furthermore, I've successfully setup Heroku to use the RDS database. If I look at the RDS database in Sequel Pro, it looks fine if I set the encoding to "UTF-8 Unicode via Latin 1". So it seems Latin-1 is sneaking in there somewhere. Somebody must have done this before, right? What am I missing?

  In my test, I try to verify if certain text exists (after an action) using find_element_by_xpath. If I use the right expression and my test pass, the routine ends correctly in no time. However if I try a wrong text (meaning that the test will fail) it hangs forever and I have to kill the script otherwise it does not end. • Complex sorting on MySQL database

  I'm facing the following situation. We've got an CMS with an entity with translations. These translations are stored in a different table with a one-to-many relationship. For example newsarticles and newsarticle_translations. The amount of available languages is dynamically determined by the same CMS. When entering a new newsarticle the editor is required to enter at least one translation, which one of the available languages he chooses is up to him. In the newsarticle overview in our CMS we would like to show a column with the (translated) article title, but since none of the languages are mandatory (one of them is mandatory but i don't know which one) i don't really know how to construct my mysql query to select a title for each newsarticle, regardless of the entered language. And to make it all a little harder, our manager asked for the possibilty to also be able to sort on title, so fetching the translations in a separate query is ruled out as far as i know. Anyone has an idea on how to solve this in the most efficient way? • Can JQuery.Validate plugin prevent submission of an Ajax form

  I am using the JQuery form plugin (http://malsup.com/jquery/form/) to handle the ajax submission of a form. I also have JQuery.Validate (http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Validation) plugged in for my client side validation. What I am seeing is that the validation fails when I expect it to however it does not stop the form from submitting. When I was using a traditional form (i.e. non-ajax) the validation failing prevented the form for submitting at all.... which is my desired behaviour. I know that the validation is hooked up correctly as the validation messages still appear after the ajax submit has happened. So what I am I missing that is preventing my desired behaviour? • IE8 ignores jQuery UI 'dialog' minHeight and height settings

  I'm using jQuery 1.4.4 with jQueryUI 1.8.7 to display a modal dialog box. I'm having a problem where IE8 renders a scrollbar and appears to ignore the minHeight and height options in all the many different combinations I've tried them in. I only get this problem when am trying to send JSON. Where exactly is the problem? Am i encoding the JSON the wrong way on AppEngine? I tried using the JSON library but it looks as if this is not supported. Where is the problem exactly? :(

• Named Range Breaks Code

  I have one workbook with several sheets. I populate the listboxes (pulling static data from cells) on the 2nd sheet, click a button and it runs fine. When I populate the listboxes with a named range, the listbox populates the way I want, but I get an error because the code thinks that I didn't select anything in the listbox, even though I did. So it passes through "" instead of "title". Is this a common issue? The named range isn't a problem because it passes through the data to the listbox and I know it's selecting data because as soon as the listbox loses focus, it spits out the contents of the cell into cell A1. What's even stranger is that I have the contents of the listbox set to Msg1. So A1 gets populated with Msg1 (what I actually selected in the listbox). But when I try and use Msg1 in the code, it tells me that Msg1 is "". Again, this only happens when I use the dynamic named range, not with static data in cells K1:K9. • PHP generating csv not sending correct new line feeds

  I have a script that generates a csv file using the following code: header('Content-type: text/csv'); header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="'.date("Ymdhis").'.csv"'); print $content; The $content variable simply contains lines with fields separated by commas and then finalised with ."\n"; to generate a new line. When I open the file in csv it looks fine however, when I try to use the file to import into an external program (MYOB) it does not recognise the End Of Line (\n) character and assumes one long line of text. When I view the contents of the file in notepad, the end of line character (\n) is a small rectangle box which looks like the character code 0x7F. If I open the file and re-save it in excel, it removes this character and replaces it with a proper end of line character and I can import the file. What character do I need to be generating in PHP so that notepad recognises it as a valid End Of Line character? (\n) obviously doesn't do the job.

• ASP ListView - Eval() as formatted number, Bind() as unformatted?

  I have an ASP ListView, and have a very simple requirement to display numbers as formatted w/ a comma (12,123), while they need to bind to the database without formatting (12123). I am using a standard setup - ListView with a datasource attached, using Bind(). I'm also using the ItemTemplate as read and edit templates, to save on duplicate HTML. In the example, I only get the unformatted number. If I convert the field to an integer (via the SELECT) and use a format string like Bind("NUMSTR", "{0:###,###}"), it writes the formatted number to the database, and then fails when it tries to read it again (can't convert with the comma in there). Is there any elegant/simple solution to this? It's so easy to get the two-way binding going, and I would think there has to be a way to easily format things as well... Oh, and I'm trying to avoid the standard ItemTemplate and EditItemTemplate approach, just for sheer amount of markup required for that. Thanks!

  I am working on a menu navigation that has parent horizontal bar as static and a vertical accordion child menu that interacts with the parent. I have them working fine except one part where I want to toggle show() and hide() child menu when clicked on the same parent menu item. I've looked at toggle() jQuery API but couldn't get it working properly. • Handling very large lists of objects without paging?

  Hi, I have a class which can contain many small elements in a list. Looks like: public class Farm { private ArrayList<Horse> mHorses; } just wondering what will happen if the mHorses array grew to something crazy like 15,000 elements. I'm assuming that trying to write and read this from the datastore would be crazy, because I'd get killed on the serialization process. It's important that I can get the entire array in one shot without paging, and each Horse element may only have two string properties in it, so they are pretty lightweight: public class Horse { private String mId; private String mName; } I don't need these horses indexed at all. Does it sound reasonable to just store the mHorse array as a raw Text field, and force my clients to do the deserialization? Something like: public class Farm { private Text mHorsesSerialized; } then whenever the client receives a Farm instance, it has to take the raw string of horses, and split it in order to reinstantiate the list, something like: // GWT client perhaps Farm farm = rpcCall.getMyFarm(); String horsesSerialized = farm.getHorses(); String[] horseBlocks = horsesSerialized.split(","); for (int i = 0; i < horseBlocks.length; i++) { // .. continue deserializing the individual objects ... } yeah... so hopefully it would be quick to read a Farm instance from the datastore, and the serialization penalty is paid by the client, Thanks

• jQuery toggle pushing other elements around... bullies!!

  Ok, so in the left_col of my page, i have a list UL LI that incorporates a jQuery toggle to open a small box, which is "LoginBox". <ul> <li class="members"><a href="/members/signon.asp?userType=member">Members</a></li> <li class="employers"><a href="/employers/signon.asp?userType=employer">Employers</a></li> <li class="providers"><a href="#LoginBox" class="clicker">Providers</a></li> <div class="loginbox" id="LoginBox"> <p>Medical</p> <p>Dental</p> </div> <li class="brokers"><a href="/brokers/signon.asp?userType=broker">Brokers</a></li> </ul> when the jQuery is invoked, it pushes the elements below it down. As expected. What i dont get is that i have an H3 tag below this UL LI which has a background image. The text portion of the H3 gets pushed down, but the background image seems to stay put, and the UL LI that gets pushed down just covers up the background image of the H3. why would the text move, but not the background image itself? here is the H3 style: .sectionmenu h3{ background: url(/_images/h3-triangle.gif) left center no-repeat; color: #000; font-size: 12px; font-weight: bold; padding: 4px 0px 4px 10px; margin: 0; border-bottom:1px dotted #aeaeae;; } and the login box style: .loginbox{ display:none; width:100px; height:50px; margin:0 0 0 77px; }

• Serving .docx files through Php

  Hi, I'm having issues when attempting to serve a .docx file using Php. When uploading the file I detect the file mime type and upload the file using the file with the correct extension based on the mime type; e.g. below: application/msword - doc application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document - docx When attempting to serve the files for download, I do the reverse in detecting the extension and serving based on the mime type e.g. public static function fileMimeType($extention) { if(!is_null($extention)) { switch($extention) { case 'txt': return 'text/plain'; break; case 'odt': return 'application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text'; break; case 'doc': return 'application/msword'; break; case 'docx': return 'application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document'; break; case ('jpg' || 'jpeg'): return 'image/jpeg'; break; case 'png': return 'image/png'; break; case 'pdf': return 'application/pdf'; break; default: break; } } } All files appear to download correctly and open fine but when attempting to open a docx file, Word (on multiple files) throws a error stating the file is corrupt.   Hi, say I've an xml returned from server like this: <persons> <person> <firstname>Jon</firstname> </person> <person> <firstname>Jack</firstname> </person> <person> <firstname>James</firstname> </person> </persons> If I want to access the 3rd firstname node (passed dynamically and stored in i, assumed to be 3 here), how do I do that? My weird attempt follows: var i=3; $(xml).find('firstname').each(function(idx){ if (idx==i) alert($(this).text()); }); It does fetch me the right content... but it just feels wrong to me especially the looping part. Basically I'm looping through the whole tree using .each()! Is there any better approach than this? Something that'd take me to the nth node directly like: alert( $(xml).find('firstname')[idx].text() ); // where idx=n I'm new to jquery so please excuse my jquery coding approach.

  I am using jQuery Fancybox to display a number of Flash videos on a site and I am having trouble with the window not opening fully on the first click in Firefox. It works fine in other browsers.
