  • Using my System as the server- need advice

    We are deploying my web application in my system in jboss. And I am planning to use my system as the server as well. There are no html pages or jsp pages deployed. The client requests for resources and the server provides the resources in the form of objects. We are also using databases(Postgresql-15 tables) as the database server(this will also reside in my machine). My system configuration is Windows Vista, 2.3 GHZ, 4GB Ram, 32 bit. There can be many requests coming in at the same time. So is this configuration enough? Should we go with a different Operating System like Windows Server? I have never used Windows Server OS. How will it be different from other windows operating systems? Or if you feel please some other OS will be good in this situation, please suggest.

  • erlang io:format, and a hanging web application

    While I'm learning a new language, I'll typically put lots of silly println's to see what values are where at specific times. It usually suffices because the languages typically have available a tostring equivalent. In trying that same approach with erlang, my webapp just "hangs" when there's a value attempted to be printed that's not a list. This happens when variable being printed is a tuple instead of a list. There's no error, exception, nothing... just doesn't respond. Now, I'm muddling through by being careful about what I'm writing out and as I learn more, things are getting better. But I wonder, is there a way to more reliably to [blindly] print a value to stdout? Thanks, --tim

  • DBCC CHECKDB WITH DATA_PURITY gives out of range error

    Hi there, I have restore a SQL Server 2000 database onto SQL Server 2005 and then run DBCC CHECKDB WITH DATA_PURITY and I get this error: Msg 2570, Level 16, State 3, Line 2 Page (1:19558), slot 13 in object ID 181575685, index ID 1, partition ID 293374720802816, alloc unit ID 11899744092160 (type "In-row data"). Column "NumberOfShares" value is out of range for data type "numeric". Update column to a legal value. The column NumberOfShares is a numeric (19,6) data type. If I run the following select max (NumberOfShares) from AUDIT_Table select min (NumberOfShares) from AUDIT_Table I get: 22678647.839110 -1845953000.000000 These values are inside the bounds of a numeric (19,6) so I'm not sure why the DBCC check fails. Any ideas to find out why it fails? Do I need to use DBCC PAGE? How would you troubleshoot this? Thanks, Mark.

    Given a table that has three columns ID (Primary Key, not-autoincrementing) GroupID SomeValue I am trying to write a single SQL INSERT INTO statement that will make a copy of every row that has one GroupID into a new GroupID. Example beginning table: ID | GroupID | SomeValue ------------------------ 1 | 1 | a 2 | 1 | b Goal after I run a simple INSERT INTO statement: ID | GroupID | SomeValue ------------------------ 1 | 1 | a 2 | 1 | b 3 | 2 | a 4 | 2 | b I thought I could do something like: INSERT INTO MyTable ( [ID] ,[GroupID] ,[SomeValue] ) ( SELECT (SELECT MAX(ID) + 1 FROM MyTable) ,@NewGroupID ,[SomeValue] FROM MyTable WHERE ID = @OriginalGroupID ) This causes a PrimaryKey violation since it will end up reusing the same Max(ID)+1 value multiple times as it seems. Is my only recourse to a bunch of INSERT statements in a T-SQL WHILE statement that has an incrementing Counter value? I also don't have the option of turning the ID into an auto-incrementing Identity column since that would breaking code I don't have source for.

  • Creating Visual Studio Templates

    I'm looking to create a Visual Studio 2008 template that will create a basic project and based on remove certain files/folders based on options the user enters. Right now, I have followed some tutorials online which have let me create the form to query the user and pass the data into an IWizard class, but I don't know what to do from there. The tutorials provide a sample to do some simple substitution: code: Form1 form = new Form1(); DialogResult dlg = form.ShowDialog(); if (dlg == DialogResult.OK) { foreach (KeyValuePair<string, string> pair in form.Parameters) { if (!replacementsDictionary.ContainsKey(pair.Key)) replacementsDictionary.Add(pair.Key, pair.Value); else replacementsDictionary[pair.Key] = pair.Value; } } form.Close(); but I'm looking to selectively include files based on the user settings, and if possible, selectively include code sections in a file based on settings. Is there a clever way to do this, or will I manually have to delete project files in the IWizard:ProjectFinishedGenerating()?

The r2,v2 line bombs; complaining c.TryGetValue must be given a tuple. Interestingly, in each line the signature of TryGetValue is different. How can I get my custom implementation to exhibit the same behavior as the BCL version? Or, asked another way, since F# has (implicitly) the concept of tuple parameters, curried parameters, and BCL parameters, and I know how to distinguish between curried and tuple-style, how can I force the third style (a la BCL methods)? Let me know if this is unclear.

    The problem is that when I ssh to my host with putty and enter user name, after that the password prompt delays. Found this is directly related to my iptables and can solve by changing default policy to ACCEPT. If default INPUT policy is ACCEPT, then password prompt is coming immediately. Mar 13 00:05:01 server-ubuntu sshd[6154]: Connection from 192.168.0.10 port 26304 Mar 13 00:05:06 server-ubuntu sshd[6154]: Failed none for acid from 192.168.0.10 port 26304 ssh2 However, if default INPUT policy is DROP, I got slight delay in getting password prompt after I enter username Mar 13 00:07:12 server-ubuntu sshd[6177]: Connection from 192.168.0.10 port 26333 Mar 13 00:07:35 server-ubuntu sshd[6177]: Failed none for acid from 192.168.0.10 port 26333 ssh2 For the second case, I tried to set default policy for FORWARD and OUTPUT chains to ACCEPT, but it didn't help. The only rule in this case is: -A INPUT -i eth1 -m mac --mac-source 00:26:XX:XX:XX:XX -j ACCEPT 00:26:XX:XX:XX:XX is the mac address from which I am trying to ssh to server's LAN(eth1). I'm sure there has to be some rule, which I can use while default INPUT chain policy is DENY in order to get password prompt immediately. I realize that the error message in the log is something normal and part of some verification procedure.

  • How can I write cocoa bindings as code instead of in the Interface Builder?

    In my modell got an NSMutableArray that keeps track of a changing number of elements. In my view I got a NSTextField that shows the number of elements. The view gots unarchived from the nib file and alloc/inits the modell. Therefore it knowns about the modell and the contained array. I established the connection as follows. In the Interface Builder at the textfield I added a Cocoa Binding "path" like this: myModell.myArray.@count. By this I can access the count property (which is a must since the array itself does not change). The binding is based on key-value compliance which I established at the modell so the array can be accessed. But key-value compliance is not part of the questions. My question: How can I put the binding into the sourcecode and not writing it into the Interface Builder?

    I need to concatenate several columns of a table into a single value, then show that value in an asp dropdownlist. The SQL code I'm issuing is as follows: SELECT UserID, CustomerNum, UserName + ' - ' + UserAddress + ',' + UserCity + ' ' + UserState AS UserInfo FROM Users WHERE (CustomerNum = @CustomerNum) ORDER BY UserName I then set 'UserInfo' as the text field in the dropdownlist. This generally works, except occasionally one of the columns in the database is null (for example, UserState). When that happens, the entire concatenation is null, and I get an empty entry in the dropdownlist. Is there something in SQLServer that will allow me to ignore those NULL results, or will I have to code something up in the DataBind event? Thanks

    I have some problems with ASP.NET MVC’s default model binder. The View contains HTML like this: <input name="SubDTO[0].Id" value="1" type="checkbox"> <input name="SubDTO[1].Id" value="2" type="checkbox"> This is my simplified ‘model’: public class SubDTO { public virtual string Id { get; set; } } public class DTO { public List<SubDTO> SubDTOs { get; set; } public DTO() { SubDTOs = new List< SubDTO>(); } } All this works fine if the user selects at least the first checkbox (SubDTO[0].Id). The controller ‘receives’ a nicely initialised/bound DTO. However, if the first check box is not selected but only, for example, SubDTO[1].Id the object SubDTOs is null.     In order to prevent command windows from popping up during installation I am using the WIX built-in custom action CAQuietExec. First I define the command line: <CustomAction Id="A01" Property="QtExecCmdLine" Value="&quot;MyExe.exe&quot; /password [PASSWORD]" /> NB: The PASSWORD property is defined as Hidden. This prevents the Windows installer from writing the property value to the log. Then I call into the embedded WIX extension: <CustomAction Id="A02" BinaryKey="WixCA" DllEntry="CAQuietExec" Execute="immediate" Return="ignore" /> This works fine. However, when I go to the temp folder and open up the MSI log I see the following entry: CAQuietExec: "C:\Program Files\MyExe.exe" /password INCLEARTEXT I.e. the password is displayed in clear text and not hidden. How do I prevent the CAQuietExec from logging the password in clear text?

    I'm going through some AS3 training, but I'm getting a weird error... I'm trying to add an event listener to the end of a motion tween in AS. I've created a tween, highlighted the frames, right clicked and copied the tween as AS and pasted it into the movie clip (I think there's a better way to do this, but I'm not sure what it is...)     I'm getting started with WPF and trying to get my head around connecting data to the UI. I've managed to connect to a class without any issues, but what I really want to do is connect to a property of the main window.     I'm working on an app that sends raw data to zebra printer and print out barcodes. And since every item has its own unique barcode, I need to define a variable that automatically generates unique number of 12 digits long. see example: printBar prnt = new printBar("123456789012"); Is there anyway to define a double variable and pass it to a function that return uniqely 12 digits number and pass it over again to the printBar class?. But how to make sure everytime you access it returns a unique value?. I also thought of another way, since am using MS Access db, I can create a column of AutoNumber datatype and assign it to Random, but you don't get the exact 12 digits required, sometimes it generates a value of 10 digits sometimes more or less.

Html: <% using (Html.BeginForm("ChangeTime", "Cart", new { cartItemId = cartItem.CartItemID }, FormMethod.Post, null)) { %> <%= Html.TextBox("startTime")%> <input type="submit" value="Update" /> <% } %> JQuery: <script type="text/javascript"> $('#startTime').change(function() { $(this).parent('form').submit(); }); </script> When I put a time in the textbox (05/05/2010 06:08 am), the form is submitted, however the string as it comes through, is 05/05/2010 - with the time part removed. I see this in fiddler. If get rid of the javascript and click the button above, it goes through how it should. Why is JQuery changing my text?

    I have a form which will include some optional questions that need to asked of the user. In my model it may look like pubic Dictionary<String, String> Questions { get; set; } where the key is the label and value is the text box. How can I create and populate controls for this? I'm new to ASP MVC, but it makes sense that something like this would be built in. Is there a built in way to do this, or do I have to implement it myself? It seems like there should be a helper for it, since you don't really want to put this kind of code in the view. I've tried Html.EditorFor(model => model.Questions); but it just spits out "[key, value]" to the view.

    I am using Sentry (in a django project), and I'd like to know how I can get the errors to aggregate properly. I am logging certain user actions as errors, so there is no underlying system exception, and am using the culprit attribute to set a friendly error name. The message is templated, and contains a common message ("User 'x' was unable to perform action because 'y'"), but is never exactly the same (different users, different conditions). Sentry clearly uses some set of attributes under the hood to determine whether to aggregate errors as the same exception, but despite having looked through the code, I can't work out how. Can anyone short-cut my having to dig further into the code and tell me what properties I need to set in order to manage aggregation as I would like? I will investigate further, however 'checksum' suggests that binary equivalence, which is never going to work - it must be possible to group instances of the same exception, with differenct attributes? [UPDATE 2: event checksums] The event checksum comes from the sentry.manager.get_checksum_from_event method: def get_checksum_from_event(event): for interface in event.interfaces.itervalues(): result = interface.get_hash() if result: hash = hashlib.md5() for r in result: hash.update(to_string(r)) return hash.hexdigest() return hashlib.md5(to_string(event.message)).hexdigest() Next stop - where do the event interfaces come from? [UPDATE 3: event interfaces] I have worked out that interfaces refer to the standard mechanism for describing data passed into sentry events, and that I am using the standard sentry.interfaces.Message and sentry.interfaces.User interfaces. Both of these will contain different data depending on the exception instance - and so a checksum will never match. Is there any way that I can exclude these from the checksum calculation? (Or at least the User interface value, as that has to be different - the Message interface value I could standardise.) [UPDATE 4: solution] Here are the two get_hash functions for the Message and User interfaces respectively: # sentry.interfaces.Message def get_hash(self): return [self.message] # sentry.interfaces.User def get_hash(self): return [] Looking at these two, only the Message.get_hash interface will return a value that is picked up by the get_checksum_for_event method, and so this is the one that will be returned (hashed etc.) The net effect of this is that the the checksum is evaluated on the message alone - which in theory means that I can standardise the message and keep the user definition unique. I've answered my own question here, but hopefully my investigation is of use to others having the same problem. (As an aside, I've also submitted a pull request against the Sentry documentation as part of this ;-)) (Note to anyone using / extending Sentry with custom interfaces - if you want to avoid your interface being use to group exceptions, return an empty list.)

    what i don't understand in my task here what kind of list i can use, and if it should have 2 attributes key and value ? or only value? with pointers to another node ofc the task: "design a function which create a list using input from the keyboard _ the prefered solution. Assume that some magic stops the input; so the length of a list is not known in advance.(alternative solution: a function which creates explicitly a fixed list. However, all other function can not assume any knowledge about the length of lists). Necessary utilities( additional functions to be created): a function which deallocates the memory used for lists and a function which prints the content of the list. let the element of lists contain a letter. Design a function which create a copy of such list. can't also understand the list line !!!!!???
