• MySQL query - if not exists - insert into - else - update

• Using GA in GUI

  Sorry if this isn't clear as I'm writing this on a mobile device and I'm trying to make it quick. I've written a basic Genetic Algorithm with a binary encoding (genes) that builds a fitness value and evolves through several iterations using tournament selection, mutation and crossover. As a basic command-line example it seems to work. The problem I've got is with applying a genetic algorithm within a GUI as I am writing a maze-solving program that uses the GA to find a method through a maze. How do I turn my random binary encoded genes and fitness function (add all the binary values together) into a method to control a bot around a maze? I have built a basic GUI in Java consisting of a maze of labels (like a grid) with the available routes being in blue and the walls being in black. To reiterate my GA performs well and contains what any typical GA would (fitness method, get and set population, selection, crossover, etc) but now I need to plug it into a GUI to get my maze running. What needs to go where in order to get a bot that can move in different directions depending on what the GA says? Rough pseudocode would be great if possible As requested, an Individual is built using a separate class (Indiv), with all the main work being done in a Pop class. When a new individual is instantiated an array of ints represent the genes of said individual, with the genes being picked at random from a number between 0 and 1. The fitness function merely adds together the value of these genes and in the Pop class handles selection, mutation and crossover of two selected individuals. There's not much else to it, the command line program just shows evolution over n generations with the total fitness improving over each iteration. EDIT: It's starting to make a bit more sense now, although there are a few things that are bugging me... As Adamski has suggested I want to create an "Agent" with the options shown below. The problem I have is where the random bit string comes into play here. The agent knows where the walls are and has it laid out in a 4 bit string (i.e. 0111), but how does this affect the random 32 bit string? (i.e. 10001011011001001010011011010101) If I have the following maze (x is the start place, 2 is the goal, 1 is the wall): x 1 1 1 1 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 2 If I turn left I'm facing the wrong way and the agent will move completely off the maze if it moves forward. I assume that the first generation of the string will be completely random and it will evolve as the fitness grows but I don't get how the string will work within a maze. So, to get this straight... The fitness is the result of when the agent is able to move and is by a wall. The genes are a string of 32 bits, split into 16 sets of 2 bits to show the available actions and for the robot to move the two bits need to be passed with four bits from the agent showings its position near the walls. If the move is to go past a wall the move isn't made and it is deemed invalid and if the move is made and if a new wall is found then the fitness goes up. Is that right?

• NetworkOnMainThread exception occuring

  I got a code from Android Hive to parse JSON data from url. Then I am trying to implement the same code on Rotten Tomatoes Upcoming Movies Api. I have implemented the same code with almost modifying all the xml files according to my needs. But the problem is when I am trying to run the code, its showing NetworkOnMainThread Exception. Here is the pset Query with dummy but appropriate data: putCover(1,10,0,80.000,80.000,'F','Cut',0.000,0,15.000,'4x2',1.5,'A',10.000,5.000) As you can see everything is fine just when I write to the DB instead of 10 in the second parameter a 3 is written. I have done the following: Traced the id_color value to the create method, still got replaced by a 3 Hardcoded the value in the DAO create method, still got replaced by a 3 Called the procedure from the MySQL Workbench, it worked fined so I assume something is happening in the create method, any help is really appreciated.

• How to convert an ORM to its subclass using Hibernate ?

  Hi everybody, For example, I have two classes : Person and Employee (Employee is a subclass of Person). Person : has a lastname and a firstname. Employee : has also a salary. On the client-side, I have a single HTML form where i can fill the person informations (like lastname and firstname). I also have a "switch" between "Person" and "Employee", and if the switch is on Employee I can fill the salary field. On the server-side, Servlets receive informations from the client and use the Hibernate framework to create/update data to/from the database. The mapping i'm using is a single table for persons and employee, with a discriminator. I don't know how to convert a Person in an Employee. I firstly tried to : load the Person p from the database create an empty Employee e object copy values from p into e set the salary value save e into the database But i couldn't, as I also copy the ID, and so Hibernate told me they where two instanciated ORM with the same id. And I can't cast a Person into an Employee directly, as Person is Employee's superclass. There seems to be a dirty way : delete the person, and create an employee with the same informations, but I don't really like it..   Hello, im using JPA2 with Hibernate 3.6.x I have made a simple testing on the @Version. Let's say we have 2 entities, Entity Team has a List of Player Entities, bidirectional relationship, lazy fetchtype, cascade-type All Both entities have @Version And here are the scenarios : Whenever a modification is made to one of the team/player entity, the team/player's version will be increased when flushed/commited (version on the modified record is increased). Adding a new player entity to team's collection using persist, the entity the team's version will be assigned after persist (adding a new entity, that new entity will got it's version). Whenever an addition/modification/removal is made to one of the player entity, the team's version will be increased when flushed/commited. (add/modify/remove child record, parent's version got increased also) I can understand the number 1 and 2, but the number 3, i dont understand, why the team's version got increased ? And that makes me think of other questions : What if i got Parent <- child <- granchildren relation ship. In scenario number 2, how can i get the version on the team before it's commited, like perhaps by using flush ? Is it a recommended way to get the parent's version after we do something to the child[s] ? So when my coworker tests from her computer with another code, giving access to another place in the tree, she get's the same tree as me. (The tree is supposed to show your own level and down.) I have added a html-comment to show what orgid it passes to the function, and the orgid passed is correct. So either the treeview caches something serverside, or the sqlquery caches it's result somehow... Any ideas?   Hi, I'm kind of new to Python and trying to create a plotting app for values read via RS232 from a sensor. I've managed (after some reading and copying examples online) to get a plot working that updates on a timer which is great. My only trouble is that I can't manage to get multiple data series into the same plot. Does anyone have a solution to this? • ADO program to list members of a large group.

  Hi everyone, I'm attempting to list all the members in a Active Directory group using ADO. The problem I have is that many of these groups have over 1500 members and ADSI cannot handle more than 1500 items in a multi-valued attribute. Fortunately I came across Richard Muller's wonderful VBScript that handles more than 1500 members at http://www.rlmueller.net/DocumentLargeGroup.htm I modified his code as shown below so that I can list ALL the groups and its memberships in a certain OU. However, I'm keeping getting the exception shown below: "ADODB.Recordset: Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal." My program appears to get stuck at: strPath = adoRecordset.Fields("ADsPath").Value Set objGroup = GetObject(strPath) All I am doing above is issuing the query to get back a recordset consisting of the ADsPath for each group in the OU. It then walks through the recordset and grabs the ADsPath for the first group and store its in a variable named strPath; we then use the value of that variable to bind to the group account for that group.   Hello, We currently have a WCF Service that works over https. But we want to change it to make it work over just http. • iPhone game and reading plist file and looping through multidimensional array.

  I have a question regarding an iPhone game I'm developing. At the moment, below is the code I'm using to currently I loop through my multidimensional array and position bricks accordingly on my scene. Instead of having multiple two dimensional arrays within my code as per the following (gameLevel1). Ideally, I'd like to read from a .plist file within my project and loop through the values in that instead. Please take into account that I'd like to have more than one level within my game (possibly 20) so my .plist file would have to have some sort of separator line item to determine what level I want to render. • Creating an element and insertBefore is not working...

  Ok, I've been banging my head up against the wall on this and I have no clue why it isn't creating the element. Maybe something very small that I overlooked here. Basically, there is this Javascript code that is in a PHP document being outputted, like somewhere in the middle of when the page gets loaded, NOW, unfortunately it can't go into the header. The problem here is that within this function, the div never gets created at all and I can't understand why? Furthermore Firefox, FireBug is telling me that the variable divName is undefined, even though I have attempted to take care of this within the function, though not sure why. Anyways, I need the created div element to be inserted just before the following HTML: echo ' <div name="dp_Reserved_Shoutbox" style="padding-bottom: 9px;"></div>'; I'm using name here instead of id because I don't want duplicate id values which is why I'm changing the name value and incrementing, since this function may be called more than 1 time. For example if there are 3 shoutboxes on the same page (Don't ask why...lol), I need to skip the other names that I already changed to "dp_Reserved_Counted", which I believe I am doing correctly. In any case, if I could I would place this into the header and have it called just once, but this isn't possible as these are loaded and no way of telling which one's they are, so it's directly hard-coded into the actual output on the page of where the shoutbox is within the HTML. Basically, not sure if that is the problem or not, but there must be some sort of work-around, unless the problem is within my code above... arrg Please help me. Thanks :)

Reference finalizer threads will inherit thread local values. But the mail quota usage keeps increasing. Remember, this works fine in one application, but not in other. • Having a problem inserting a foreign key data into a table using a PHP form

  I am newbee with PHP and MySQL and need help... I have two tables (Staff and Position) in the database. The Staff table (StaffId, Name, PositionID (fk)). The Position table is populated with different positions (Manager, Supervisor, and so on). The two tables are linked with a PositionID foreign key in the Staff table. I have a staff registration form with textfields asking for the relevant attributes and a dynamically populated drop down list to choose the position. I need to insert the user's entry into the staff table along with the selected position. However, when inserting the data, I get the following error (Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails). How do I insert the position selected by the user into the staff table? • OpenGL alpha blending issue with back face visible.

  I'm trying to display "transparent" surfaces (not closed volumes) with both the front face and back face are visible (not culled). For example displaying a cone or cylinder where the transparency is applied on both sides. There are some visible artifacts where some part of the surface does not seems to be handling the alpha values correctly. The issue it seems is when I (opengl) is trying to apply the alpha from the front side of the surface to the backside of the surface.   Data entered in textboxes is not getting updated in database. In debug mode I see that text1 and text2 in ItemUpdating event contain the same values as they had before calling ItemUpdating. • Strange performance behaviour for 64 bit modulo operation

  The last three of these method calls take approx. double the time than the first four. The only difference is that their arguments doesn't fit in integer anymore. But should this matter? The parameter is declared to be long, so it should use long for calculation anyway. Does the modulo operation use another algorithm for numbersmaxint? I am using amd athlon64 3200+, winxp sp3 and vs2008. I found that both .net and c (in debug as well as in release mode) does't not use atomically cpu instructions to calculate the remainder but they call a function that does. In the c program I could get the name of it which is "_allrem". It also displayed full source comments for this file so I found the information that this algorithm special cases the 32bit divisors instead of dividends which was the case in the .net application. I also found out that the performance of the c program really is only affected by the value of the divisor but not the dividend. Another test showed that the performance of the remainder function in the .net program depends on both the dividend and divisor. BTW: Even simple additions of long long values are calculated by a consecutive add and adc instructions. So even if my processor calls itself 64bit, it really isn't :( EDIT3: I now ran the c app on a windows 7 x64 edition, compiled with visual studio 2010. The funny thing is, the performance behavior stays the same, although now (I checked the assembly source) true 64 bit instructions are used.
