  • select for update problem in jdbc

    - by kartiku
    I'm having a problem with select for update in jdbc. The table i'm trying to update is the smalldb table, i'm having problems-- i'm using select for update which does a lock on the selected row the update statement is -- String updateQ = "UPDATE libra.smalldb SET hIx = ? WHERE name = ?"; the select statement is -- rs = stmt1.executeQuery("SELECT hIx FROM libra.smalldb for update"); rs0 = stmt2.executeQuery("SELECT name,aff FROM libra.smalldb"); the second statement is because i need those fields as well. Here is the complete code -- import java.sql.*; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Collections; public class Jdbcexample1 { /** * @param args */ public static void main(String[] args) { Connection con = null; try { Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance(); con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql:///test", "root", "*****"); //String url = "jdbc:msql://200.210.220.1:1114/Demo"; //Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url,"",""); Statement stmt1 = con.createStatement(); Statement stmt2 = con.createStatement(); Statement stmt3 = con.createStatement(); Statement stmt4 = con.createStatement(); ResultSet rs0; ResultSet rs; ResultSet rs1; ResultSet rs2; String name; String hIx; int hIxInt; StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer(); String affiliationSmall; ArrayList<String> affiliation = new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<Float> matchValues = new ArrayList<Float>(); ArrayList<Integer> hixValues = new ArrayList<Integer>(); ArrayList<Integer> idValues = new ArrayList<Integer>(); boolean moreFlag = false; String queryString; int tmpIdx; String name1; //get the hix at that index where the similarity is maximum int tmpHidx = 0; int tmpHix = 0; int id = 0; int count; int tmpidIdx = 0; //rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT id FROM libra.researchint WHERE id = 910887"); // Get name, affiliation , hIx from smalldb //rs = stmt1.executeQuery("SELECT name,aff,hIx FROM libra.smalldb"); // String cursorName = "OUR_CURSOR"; // stmt1.setCursorName(cursorName); //rs = stmt1.executeQuery("SELECT name,aff,hIx FROM libra.smalldb for update"); rs = stmt1.executeQuery("SELECT hIx FROM libra.smalldb for update"); rs0 = stmt2.executeQuery("SELECT name,aff FROM libra.smalldb"); while ( rs.next() && rs0.next() ) { //String lastName = rs.getString("id"); hIx = rs.getString("hIx"); hIxInt = Integer.parseInt(hIx); //if hIx if (hIxInt==-1) continue; //name = rs.getString("name"); name = rs0.getString("name"); name1 = new String(name); System.out.println(name); //affiliationSmall = rs.getString("aff"); affiliationSmall = rs0.getString("aff"); //name = "\"" +name+ "\""; // Get matching names from large faculty table //String queryString = "SELECT id,name,hIx FROM libra.faculty WHERE name = " +name; //name = does not work names are similar but not same (in faculty and // smalldb) String query = "SELECT id,name,hIx FROM libra.faculty WHERE name like ?"; //String query = "SELECT id,name,hIx FROM libra.faculty for update of hIx WHERE name like ?"; PreparedStatement prepStmt = con.prepareStatement(query); String[] nameArr = name.split(" "); StringBuffer tmpSb = new StringBuffer(); for(int idx = 0;idx<nameArr.length;idx++) { tmpSb.append(nameArr[idx] + "%"); } name = tmpSb.toString(); prepStmt.setString(1, name); rs1 = prepStmt.executeQuery(); //Try to get matching names from faculty big db //Execute the query on faculty table //rs1 = stmt2.executeQuery(queryString); if(rs1.isClosed()) continue; count = 0; matchValues.clear(); affiliation.clear(); while(rs1.next()) { //name = rs1.getString("name"); id = Integer.parseInt(rs1.getString("id")); //idValues.add(id); tmpHix = Integer.parseInt(rs1.getString("hIx")); queryString = "SELECT aff FROM libra.affiliation WHERE id = "+id; rs2 = stmt3.executeQuery(queryString); //affiliation = rs1.getString("aff"); sb.delete(0, sb.length()); while (rs2.next()) { //Concatenate it to the same string using a stringbuffer sb.append(rs2.getString("aff")); //affiliation.add(rs2.getString("aff")); } affiliation.add(sb.toString()); count++; // if(count1) // { // moreFlag = true; // //Call fuzzy match function, store the distance values and select the // //affiliation that has the minimum distance from affiliationSmall // // //problem is here, affiliation.get Index: 2, Size: 2 // // matchValues.add(fuzzyMatch(affiliationSmall,affiliation.get(count))); // hixValues.add(tmpHix); // idValues.add(id); // } }//end of while rs1 -> faculty rs1.close(); int idx = 0; if(count>1) { moreFlag = true; //Call fuzzy match function, store the distance values and select the //affiliation that has the minimum distance from affiliationSmall //problem is here, affiliation.get Index: 2, Size: 2 matchValues.add(fuzzyMatch(affiliationSmall,affiliation.get(idx))); hixValues.add(tmpHix); idValues.add(id); idx++; } if(moreFlag) { Object obj = Collections.max(matchValues); float maxVal = Float.parseFloat(obj.toString()); //int tmpIdx = matchValues.indexOf(new Float(maxVal)); //get the index at which similarity between affiliation strings is maximum, //as returned by fuzzyMatch //int tmpIdx = matchValues.indexOf(maxVal); tmpIdx = matchValues.indexOf(maxVal); //get the hix at that index where the similarity is maximum //int tmpHidx = hixValues.get(tmpIdx); tmpHidx = hixValues.get(tmpIdx); tmpidIdx = idValues.get(tmpIdx); //update the smalldb table String updateQ = "UPDATE libra.smalldb SET hIx = ?   • Tricky Big-O complexity

    - by timeNomad
public void foo (int n, int m) { int i = m; while (i > 100) i = i/3; for (int k=i ; k>=0; k--) { for (int j=1; j<n; j*=2) System.out.print(k + "\t" + j); System.out.println(); } } I figured the complexity would be O(logn). That is as a product of the inner loop, the outer loop -- will never be executed more than 100 times, so it can be omitted. What I'm not sure about is the while clause, should it be incorporated into the Big-O complexity? For very large i values it could make an impact, or arithmetic operations, doesn't matter on what scale, count as basic operations and can be omitted?

  • Duplex communication using NetTcpBinding - ContractFilter mismatch?

    - by Shaul
    I'm making slow and steady progress towards having a duplex communication channel open between a client and a server, using NetTcpBinding. (FYI, you can observe my newbie progress here and here!) I'm now at the stage where I have successfully connected to my server, through the server's firewall, and the client can make requests of the server. In the other direction, however, things aren't quite so happy. It works fine when testing on my own machine, but when testing over the internet, when I try to initiate a callback from the server side, I get an error: The message with Action 'http://MyWebService/IWebService/HelloWorld' cannot be processed at the receiver, due to a ContractFilter mismatch at the EndpointDispatcher. This may be because of either a contract mismatch (mismatched Actions between sender and receiver) or a binding/security mismatch between the sender and the receiver. Check that sender and receiver have the same contract and the same binding (including security requirements, e.g. Message, Transport, None). Here are some of the key bits of code. First, the web interface: [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://MyWebService", SessionMode = SessionMode.Required, CallbackContract = typeof(ISiteServiceExternal))] public interface IWebService { [OperationContract] void Register(long customerID); } public interface ISiteServiceExternal { [OperationContract] string HelloWorld(); } Then, on the client side (I was fiddling with these attributes without really knowing what I'm doing): [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.PerSession, Namespace="http://MyWebService")] class SiteServer : IWebServiceCallback { string IWebServiceCallback.HelloWorld() { return "Hello World!"; } ... } So what am I doing wrong here? EDIT: Adding app.config code. From server: <system.serviceModel> <diagnostics> <messageLogging logMalformedMessages="true" logMessagesAtServiceLevel="true" logMessagesAtTransportLevel="true" logEntireMessage="true" maxMessagesToLog="1000" maxSizeOfMessageToLog="524288" /> </diagnostics> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="mex"> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true"/> <serviceMetadata/> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <services> <service name ="MyWebService.WebService" behaviorConfiguration="mex"> <endpoint address="net.tcp://localhost:8000" binding="netTcpBinding" contract="MyWebService.IWebService" bindingConfiguration="TestBinding" name="MyEndPoint"></endpoint> <endpoint address ="mex" binding="mexTcpBinding" name="MEX" contract="IMetadataExchange"/> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="net.tcp://localhost:8000"/> </baseAddresses> </host> </service> </services> <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="TestBinding" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" portSharingEnabled="false"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength ="8192" maxArrayLength ="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384"/> <security mode="None"/> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> </system.serviceModel> and on the client side: <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="MyEndPoint" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" transactionFlow="false" transferMode="Buffered" transactionProtocol="OleTransactions" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" listenBacklog="10" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxBufferSize="65536" maxConnections="10" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:10:00" enabled="false" /> <security mode="None"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" protectionLevel="EncryptAndSign"> <extendedProtectionPolicy policyEnforcement="Never" /> </transport> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" /> </security> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="net.tcp://mydomain.gotdns.com:8000/" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="MyEndPoint" contract="IWebService" name="MyEndPoint" /> </client> </system.serviceModel>

  • What steps should I take to debug this non-starting hvm virtual machine?

    - by Ophidian
I have a dom0 machine running CentOS 5.4 with all the latest updates using Xen as my hypervisor. I am using Xen in part because this machine was set up prior to KVM being included in RHEL, and in part because KVM's network bridging configuration is not nearly as simple as Xen's. The dom0 machine is headless and I do all of my VM management via virsh from the command line. I have two hvm domU's: A web server running CentOS 5.4 A mail server running Gentoo Both VM's are backed by LV's on the dom0 but do not use LVM in the domU. Both have virtually identical libvirt configurations (differing by expected things like name, UUID, NIC MAC, VNC port, etc). The web server domU (WSdomU hereafter) does not start since applying the most recent kernel update (kernel-xen-2.6.18-164.15.1.el5.x86_64 and kernel-2.6.18-164.15.1.el5.x86_64 for the dom0 and WSdomU respectively). By 'not start' I mean it appears to be running but it does not use an CPU cycles, does not bring up a graphical console, and does not respond on the network. The WSdomU is listed as no state rather than the normal running or blocked in xentop. The mail server domU starts fine and functions normally. Here are the steps I have taken so far that did not solve the problem: Reboot the dom0 to see if things come up on their own Check xen dmesg on dom0 Check xend logs (a cursory viewing did not show anything blatant; specific suggestions of things to look for would be appreciated) Attempted to connect to the WSdomU's graphical (VNC) console from the dom0 Shutdown the mail server domU and attempt to start the WSdomU Check the SELinux labels on backing LV's (they're the same) Set SELinux to permissive and attempt to start the WSdomU Use virsh edit to try tweaking the WSdomU config virsh undefine, reboot, virsh define the WSdomU config dd the WSdomU LV to an .img file, copy it to my Fedora desktop and run it under KVM (works fine) What steps should I take next to debug this? I will edit in any additional configuration's requested in the comments.

  • java checked exception in a catch clause compilation error

    - by srandpersonia
Hi, I was expecting an compilation error in the following program because of the throw statement in the catch block as IOException is a checked exception and it is not caught by another try block within the catch block. But I am getting "Hurray!" printed. Any explanation would be much appreciated. According to JLS 11.2.3, http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/third_edition/html/exceptions.html It is a compile-time error if a method or constructor body can throw some exception type E when both of the following hold: * E is a checked exception type * E is not a subtype of some type declared in the throws clause of the method or constructor. import java.io.*; public class Test{ public static void main(String args[]) { System.out.println(method()); } public static int method() { try{ throw new Exception(); } catch(Exception e){ throw new IOException(); //No compile time error } finally{ System.out.println("Hurray!"); } } } Thanks in advance.

  • Local SSL connections are causing redirect loop (after Ubuntu update)

    - by codeinthehole
Following a recent Ubuntu update, my local websites are no longer serving their pages over SSL. For example, my .htaccess file attempts to ensure /sign-in is always served over HTTPS: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} /sign-in RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,QSA,R=301] However when I make a request to /sign-in on the domain site2-local , I get the error "The page isn't redirecting properly" with the following in /var/log/apache2/error.log [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] [client 127.0.1.1] Connection to child 0 established (server site1-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Seeding PRNG with 656 bytes of entropy [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Initial (No.1) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Subsequent (No.2) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Subsequent (No.3) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Subsequent (No.4) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Subsequent (No.5) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Subsequent (No.6) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Subsequent (No.7) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Subsequent (No.8) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Subsequent (No.9) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:20:57 2010] [info] Subsequent (No.10) HTTPS request received for child 0 (server site2-local:443) [Tue Jun 08 12:21:12 2010] [info] [client 127.0.1.1] (70007)The timeout specified has expired: SSL input filter read failed. • Closing a hook that captures global input events

    - by Margus
Intro Here is an example to illustrate the problem. Consider I am tracking and displaying mouse global current position and last click button and position to the user. Here is an image: To archive capturing click events on windows box, that would and will be sent to the other programs event messaging queue, I create a hook using winapi namely user32.dll library. This is outside JDK sandbox, so I use JNA to call the native library. This all works perfectly, but it does not close as I expect it to. My question is - How do I properly close following example program? • ADO.NET parameters from TextBox

    - by Geo Ego
I'm trying to call a parameterized stored procedure from SQL Server 2005 in my C# Winforms app. I add the parameters from TextBoxeslike so (there are 88 of them): cmd.Parameters.Add("@CustomerName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100).Value = CustomerName.Text; I get the following exception: "System.InvalidCastException: Failed to convert parameter value from a TextBox to a String. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Object must implement IConvertible." The line throwing the error is when I call the query: cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); I also tried using the .ToString() method on the TextBoxes, which seemed pointless anyway, and threw the same error. Am I passing the parameters incorrectly?

  • Why might RvdProxy.getServices() incorrectly return an empty Array?

    - by butterchicken
The following code snippet attempts to create a Tib DaemonManager connecting to a particular rvd, and then query for that rvd's services. public static void main(String[] args) throws RuntimeException { DaemonManager daemonManager = new DaemonManager("http://foo.com:7580"); if(daemonManager.getDaemonType() == DaemonManager.RVD) { DaemonProxy daemonProxy = daemonManager.getDaemonProxy(); final RvdProxy rvdProxy = (RvdProxy) daemonProxy; Service[] services = rvdProxy.getServices(); System.out.println(services.length); //prints 0 for (Service service : services) { System.out.println(service.getNetwork()); } } } This prints zero, even though the web interface for this rvd lists multiple available services. Why might this happen? The daemon I am connecting to is running v 7.5.1 of the software, and the rvconfig.jar that I am using is from v 7.5.1 as well. Is there a gotcha when using Tibco's DaemonManager that is causing me to come unstuck?

  • I'm starting a new project in Perl, how should I begin?

    - by Brad Gilbert
The question is about how to start a new Perl project. How should I create the skeleton of the Project? What should the directory layout look like? How do I start testing? What build system should I use? Should I even use a build system? I have been writing Perl programs for a while now. I only started to run tests on my recent programs. I know Perl the language fairly well, now it is time to learn the way to build full blown Perl projects. I already add these to the beginning of every Perl file: use strict; use warnings; # and occasionally use autodie; I have also used Moose.

  • Why a variable is seen in the loop and is not seen outside the loop?

    - by Roman
I have the following code: String serviceType; ServiceBrowser tmpBrowser; for (String playerName: players) { serviceType = "_" + playerName + "._tcp"; tmpBrowser = BrowsersGenerator.getBrowser(serviceType); tmpBrowser.browse(); System.out.println(tmpBrowser.getStatus()); } System.out.println(tmpBrowser.getStatus()); The compiler complains about the last line. It writes "variable tmpBrowser might not been initialized". If I comment the last line the compile does not complain.

  • Why is insertion into my tree faster on sorted input than random input?

    - by Juliet
    Now I've always heard binary search trees are faster to build from randomly selected data than ordered data, simply because ordered data requires explicit rebalancing to keep the tree height at a minimum. Recently I implemented an immutable treap, a special kind of binary search tree which uses randomization to keep itself relatively balanced. In contrast to what I expected, I found I can consistently build a treap about 2x faster and generally better balanced from ordered data than unordered data -- and I have no idea why. Here's my treap implementation: http://pastebin.com/VAfSJRwZ And here's a test program: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Diagnostics; namespace ConsoleApplication1 { class Program { static Random rnd = new Random(); const int ITERATION_COUNT = 20; static void Main(string[] args) { List<double> rndTimes = new List<double>(); List<double> orderedTimes = new List<double>(); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(50, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(100, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(200, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(400, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(800, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(1000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(2000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(4000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(8000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(16000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(32000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(64000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(128000, RandomInsert)); string rndTimesAsString = string.Join("\n", rndTimes.Select(x => x.ToString()).ToArray()); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(50, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(100, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(200, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(400, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(800, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(1000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(2000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(4000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(8000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(16000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(32000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(64000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(128000, OrderedInsert)); string orderedTimesAsString = string.Join("\n", orderedTimes.Select(x => x.ToString()).ToArray()); Console.WriteLine("Done"); } static double TimeIt(int insertCount, Action<int> f) { Console.WriteLine("TimeIt({0}, {1})", insertCount, f.Method.Name); List<double> times = new List<double>(); for (int i = 0; i < ITERATION_COUNT; i++) { Stopwatch sw = Stopwatch.StartNew(); f(insertCount); sw.Stop(); times.Add(sw.Elapsed.TotalMilliseconds); } return times.Average(); } static void RandomInsert(int insertCount) { Treap<double> tree = new Treap<double>((x, y) => x.CompareTo(y)); for (int i = 0; i < insertCount; i++) { tree = tree.Insert(rnd.NextDouble()); } } static void OrderedInsert(int insertCount) { Treap<double> tree = new Treap<double>((x, y) => x.CompareTo(y)); for(int i = 0; i < insertCount; i++) { tree = tree.Insert(i + rnd.NextDouble()); } } } } And here's a chart comparing random and ordered insertion times in milliseconds: Insertions Random Ordered RandomTime / OrderedTime 50 1.031665 0.261585 3.94 100 0.544345 1.377155 0.4 200 1.268320 0.734570 1.73 400 2.765555 1.639150 1.69 800 6.089700 3.558350 1.71 1000 7.855150 4.704190 1.67 2000 17.852000 12.554065 1.42 4000 40.157340 22.474445 1.79 8000 88.375430 48.364265 1.83 16000 197.524000 109.082200 1.81 32000 459.277050 238.154405 1.93 64000 1055.508875 512.020310 2.06 128000 2481.694230 1107.980425 2.24 I don't see anything in the code which makes ordered input asymptotically faster than unordered input, so I'm at a loss to explain the difference. Why is it so much faster to build a treap from ordered input than random input?

  • Reconnecting OST with Exchange

    - by syrenity
Hi. I have a quite big problem with customer's MS Exchange. The server got it's disk filled about 2 weeks ago, so it's currently offline. They plan to upgrade it, but not in hurry, as they use it mainly for OWA and back-up - the mails exchange is done via SMTP and POP3. Trying to diagnose some problem today, one of the users has (following the ISP instructions), removed the Exchange account from Outlook, which essentially left the OST orphaned. The user naturally didn't move the emails or any other data to the Archive / PST before, so these emails located on the OST only. So currently I'm trying to figure out how to restore them. There are 2 options: 1) Make the user buy some tool to convert them to PST, and import as archive / main Outlok file? 2) Reconnect the Outlook to Exchange (once it up), let it sync the old server content, then shutdown Outlook and replace the new OST with the old one, start Outlook again in offline mode and move these files to archive. 3) Any other method? Can someone advice what would be the best approach here? The used versions are Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003. Thanks!

  • PIG doesn't read my custom InputFormat

    - by Simon Guo
I have a custom MyInputFormat that suppose to deal with record boundary problem for multi-lined inputs. But when I put the MyInputFormat into my UDF load function. As follow: public class EccUDFLogLoader extends LoadFunc { @Override public InputFormat getInputFormat() { System.out.println("I am in getInputFormat function"); return new MyInputFormat(); } } public class MyInputFormat extends TextInputFormat { public RecordReader createRecordReader(InputSplit inputSplit, JobConf jobConf) throws IOException { System.out.prinln("I am in createRecordReader"); //MyRecordReader suppose to handle record boundary return new MyRecordReader((FileSplit)inputSplit, jobConf); } } For each mapper, it print out I am in getInputFormat function but not I am in createRecordReader. I am wondering if anyone can provide a hint on how to hoop up my costome MyInputFormat to PIG's UDF loader? Much Thanks. I am using PIG on Amazon EMR.

  • Mac OS X: How to change word separator characters?

    - by avetis.kazarian
Depending on your system, the word separator characters change the way you can select/delete a word (e.g. by double clicking on it or using a key combination with your keyboard). The fact is that I hate the default behavior of OSX. For example: Take the following line of code: obj.attr1.innerAttr. If my cursor is at the end of the line and I press alt + backspace, it will delete everything and not just innerAttr. I only found some apps (like iTerm) which let you change the word separator characters. Is there a way to change it for the whole system?

  • Computer Freezes with "Bugcheck 0" on Windows 7. How do I figure out why?

    - by George Stocker
After about 10 minutes of running, my computer will hang, exhibiting the following symptoms: Both monitors act as if there is no image being sent to them (on, but blacked out) The CAPS Lock key on the keyboard will not respond. The computer appears to still be running: CPU Fan is whirring. When I reboot, Windows says "The previous shutdown was unexpected." I've enabled the 'don't automatically restart' on an error, and asked the computer to make a memory dump whenever it crashes, but it hasn't done either. The problem is that there's no bugcheck for me to go off of, so there's no way for me to determine what the cause is (I think). Here are my system specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Gigabyte P35C-DS3R w/ 4.00 GB (DDR2 Ram) Nvidia 8800 GT Windows 7 I've tried running the Windows Memory checker, but the system also freezes when using that after about 10 minutes as well. How can I diagnose the problem with no bugcheck and no ability to run a memory checker? Update Running Memtest86 also causes the computer to crash (looks like it doesn't make it through a full pass - it was only running for about 10 minutes when the PC stopped responding).

  • iPhone Simulator Error: dyld: Symbol not found: _objc_collect_if_needed

    - by freespace
I have been seeing the following error message a lot whenever I run something in the simulator: dyld: Symbol not found: _objc_collect_if_needed Referenced from: /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.1.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/Foundation.framework/Foundation Expected in: /usr/lib/libobjc.A.dylib in /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.1.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/Foundation.framework/Foundation I am running XCode 3.2.2 on OS X 10.6.3, and have reinstalled the SDK twice with no avail. This error makes running any code on the simulator something of a Russian Roulette, but with 5 out of 6 chambers loaded. I have checked the files mentioned in the error message, and they all checkout as being present. This sometimes go away if I restart XCode. Other times I have to logout, or even restart. And sometimes nothing works. I have googled this, even tried apple's developer forums. Other than a reference to this in the MonoTouch list, this bug appears to be completely unknown otherwise. Anything help would be greatly appreciated - this is a real PITA. Cheers, Steve

  • Is there a practical alternative to struct inheritance? (C#)

    - by Tim Coulter
I am writing code that will populate the Margin, Padding and BorderThickness properties of classes in the System.Windows.Documents namespace. Each of these properties accepts a value in the form of a System.Windows.Thickness, which is a struct. However, I wish to associate some additional data with each of these property assignments, which may subsequently be retrieved by my code. If Thickness were a class, I would inherit from it and define properties in the subclass to store my additional data items. But since it is a struct, inheritance is not possible. Is there any practical way to achieve this, while maintaining type-compatibility with the properties I am populating? Thanks for your ideas, Tim

  • How to deal with routing when developing a custom CMS in Codeigniter

    - by Ashley Ward
Hi All - I’m a recent user of Codeigniter and am developing a simple backend CMS to manage pages. Based on a URL (in this example I have hidden “index.php”) : mysite.com/pagename I would like the system to detect if there is a value of “pagename” in my database, if there is, I need the system to re-route to a custom controller (eg: Pagemaker) and if there is no record called pagename, just do it’s normal thing (i.e. find a controller called pagename) Currently I have: $route['(:any)'] = "pagemaker/create/$1"; whereby all requests are forwarded to my custom function. However I want to change this structure so that if the page does NOT exist in the db, the traditional codeigniter request process is followed. Can anyone offer any advice about how to complete this? Or any advice about routing custom CMS’s in codeigniter in general?

  • control panel date&time is considered while using "new date()" javascript function.

    - by Rupa
Hi, I am getting a client date in javscript function using "new date()" object. But this object is considering the properties set for Date&Time control in the control panel of the system. For example, If I check the check box of Date&Time control of the system (control panel) "Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes", then I am getting the date(from javscript) according to the Daylight savings time and if I uncheck it, I am getting the date according to the standard time. What I need is to get the date from a Javscript function irrespective of the Date&Time control of the control panel. Thanks Rupa.

  • MS Test : How do I enforce exception message with ExpectedException attribute

    - by CRice
I thought these two tests should behave identically, in fact I have written the test in my project using MS Test only to find out now that it does not respect the expected message in the same way that nunit does. nunit (fails): [Test, ExpectedException(typeof(System.FormatException), ExpectedMessage = "blah")] public void Validate() { int.Parse("dfd"); } ms test (passes): [TestMethod, ExpectedException(typeof(System.FormatException), "blah")] public void Validate() { int.Parse("dfd"); } No matter what message I give the ms test, it will pass. Is there any way to get the ms test to fail if the message is not right? Can I even create my own exception attribute? I would rather not have to write a try catch block for every test where this occurs.

  • Linux servers going into Halt when pressing Control-D in putty or exit in the shell

    - by Itai Ganot
Since today at noon, there's a number of Linux CentOS servers which are going to Halt whenever i type exit or use Control-D to close the putty window. Did anyone encounter this weird behavior before? I've checked the aliases list on the servers and there is no alias regarding halt command. After the server came online i've checked the history and saw a "logout" command there but nothing which is related to Halt. At first, i thought it happens only from my computer but later i realized that it happens to everyone which types exit, logout or control+d. 2 of these server are our main iptables firewalls and so it's super critical, your assistance is much appreciated. It looks like that, and it only happens on servers with active IPTables: [root@srv1 bin]# ssh srv2 root@srv2's password: Last login: Sun Nov 11 17:19:41 2012 from 192.168.12.98 [root@srv2 ~]# vim /etc/crontab [root@srv2 ~]# exit logout Broadcast message from root (pts/1) (Tue Nov 13 10:44:04 2012): The system is going down for system halt NOW! Connection to srv2 closed. [root@srv1 bin]# In my troubleshooting steps i came across the command strace, and so i've opened two bash windows to one of the problematic server and i used strace -p PID_of_bash. When i typed in exit in the first shell it did go to halt, attached is the strace output, if you can check it out and tell me if you see anything suspicious i'd be more than thankful. • Performance of fopen vs stat

    - by Alex Marshall
Hello, I'm writing several C programs for an embedded system where every bit of performance we can squeeze out will matter. Part of that is accessing log files. When determining if a file exists, is there any performance difference between using open / fopen, and stat ? I've been using stat on the assumption that it only has to do a quick check against the file system, whereas fopen would have to actually gain access to a file and manipulate internal data structures before returning. Is there any merit to this ?

  • dynamics CRM performance question

    - by tomo
Hello Dynamics CRM gurus :) My boss asked me to do a research on available CMSes on market because cms we are using currently is rather a mess. For me as a .NET developer it would be great to choose and implement Dynamics CRM because of extensibility and perfect integration with .NET environment and well-known tools. All marketing blahbla sounds great but I'd like to know about common DISADVANTAGES, ISSUES concerning this system. The most important is how it is performing in a company with about 150 concurrent and very active users. I heard that is't really slow comparing to competitors system. Thanks in advance Best regards, Tomasz.
