By investigating it thru http://www.just-ping.com/ it seems, that from many places the ping is very high, and during quick investigation I found that they use GeoIP to resolve addresses based on WHOIS, which is not accurate and because of that from many places the ping is above 300ms (for example, if ISP is in balgladore and request is routed to bangladore even if it's 300ms, for period of 1 month), while by just using Amazon Web Services and Route 53 Anycast DNS servers and only 4 EC2 instances it seems that for example India is always below 100ms, while using Akamai it goes above 300ms in some cases, and this is because Route 53 is using BGP. By quickly checking the Akamai, it seems that they are not getting feedback from the traffic - the high ping stays constant even if I keep downloading large files and videos, which is opposite to what they say on their website. They state, that they optimize the performance by taking feedback from the requests, while it seems they just use GeoIP with per City resolution (which are mostly big cities). Because of this, AWS with Route 53 / Anycast DNS seems to be much more reliable, as well EdgeCast which is using BGP, but I dont know how much does it cost to deploy static website. Actually, I dont know if EdgeCast is not a lie, because from isolated places there are many errors - so their performance is at the cost of quality of delivery, because of BGP switching the routes during transfer of large files. So I was wondering, what is really Akamai good for, because they dont seem to pose any strength in any field in what I do understand now, except they offer some software based WAF on their website, but what I really care about is the core distribiution, so the question is? Is really Akamai good for Videos? For static websites? ??? I found so far AWS most usable with most consistent ping and stable transfers.

  • Looking for a free or open-source burner emulator [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Virtual CDR driver I am looking for a free or open-source virtual CD/DVD emulator to run in a Windows environment. What I want is similar to what SlySoft's Virtual Clone Drive or Daemon Tools provides, but the emulated drive needs to be a burner of some type. The burner should be able to save disc images (.iso, .ccd, etc) to my harddrive - basically, the same as if I burned the files to a CD-R, and then ripped them back to a disc image. I have already looked around some and come across 2 - DVD neXt COPY iTurns and NoteBurner M4P. Both of these programs create a virtual CD-RW drive, but they are integrated into their product (for burning from iTunes to create mp3 files) and cannot create disc images. I am currently writing a piece of software that will have the capability to burn disc images onto CDs/DVDs, and I don't want to end up with a 100 coasters while I'm testing my software.     Hi, Is it possible to run an email server on my home box using dynamic dns? The scenario is, I want to auto cc all incoming and outgoing emails from my one account to another, from some server side config instead of configuring email clients for rules. I have tried Google Apps Mail but it doesn't allow auto cc of outgoing emails. After having read tons of blogs, forum messages etc (hope I have been reading the correct info :) ) the only option to achieve what I am needing is to setup my own mail server, but the cost of getting a static IP doesn't fit my budget. Please can someone point me in the correct direction. Platform doesn't matter, I can setup a Windows or Linux server. Many Thanks

    I am really new to the whole concept of Data storage, Domain, Server and everything else related to this. Can someone pleases explain what a Domain is? How are server part of the Domain and How are Database stored in the Server or Domain? How does a new server be able to connect to existing database server to get all the data needed. I tried to find this information in the web but I am not really finding a good resource. It may be because these is really basic information.   • Twitter 2 for Android crash every time I try uploading multi photos [closed]

    Hello, I'm using the new Twitter 2 on Android 2.1. Whenever I hit the button which enables me to upload multiple photos in a single tweet, I always get the error "The application Camera (process com.sonyericsson.camera) has stopped unexpectidly. Please try again". However, uploading a single photo using the camera button in Twitter have no problem, it works. My phone is Sony Ericsson x10 mini pro. I tried signing out and back in, same result. Anything I can do to fix this?     I need to use a monitor as a "private" device for my special application, I want to use it as a flashlight of a sort and draw special patterns on it in full screen. I don't want this monitor to be recognized by OS (Windows 7) as a monitor. I.e. user should not be able to move mouse to that monitor, or change its resolution, or run screensaver on it or whatever. But I want to be able to interact with it from my application. Monitor is plugged using an HDMI cable to a video card (most probably nVidia). What is the simplest way to do this? All solutions are appreciated, including purchasing additional adapters or simple video cards, or any other special devices.

    If you use a 3PAR SAN, I’d like to hear what you think about it, particularly compared to the HP EVA. What do you see as its advantages over other SANs like the EVA? What’s so special about the ASIC? We had HP quote us an EVA P6500 and 3PAR V400 with equivalent storage and the 3PAR was nearly twice the cost. My site has two EVA SANs with a combined capacity of ~80 TB. We want to replace the older and larger of the two. We’ve been looking at the EVA and the 3PAR to see which would be a better fit for us. I’m struggling to understand how the 3PAR differs from the EVA from a practical technical standpoint. When I read the sales literature and speak with the HP sales engineers, they spend a lot of time talking about how the 3PAR is better because of its ASIC. It’s ASIC this and ASIC that, but when I press them on how a 3PAR with thin provisioning is better than an EVA with thin provisioning, I can’t get a straight answer. Meanwhile, one of my colleagues, who has more say regarding which SAN we get, is enamored by the 3PAR, and he can’t explain clearly to me why he wants it over the EVA. Our needs are pretty simple. We have 10 servers running VMware and ~100 VMs. We use VMware’s thin provisioning currently, but we would like to start using thin provisioning on the new SAN. We don’t have a need for SSDs or migration between storage tiers. We plan on having FC or SAS drives for our most used data and SATA/FATA drives for the lesser used data which is how we have the EVAs configured. We also do not need any SAN-level snapshotting or replication.

I am a member of a team developing a third party application (APP) that listens for and services connections from remote devices via TCP. Also, some of these remote devices allow 1 or more users to interact with the remote device. On some of the remote devices, it is impossible for a user to interact with the device. The user/remote device makes no use of any Windows Server service - not DHCP, not IIS, not File Server, not Print Serer, not AD. The remote device's only connection to the Windows Server machine is through the APP's TCP ports. Our company has no interaction with Microsoft. We do not have a Microsoft sales team. Past inquiries have determined that it is cheaper for us to buy Microsoft software (and CALs) retail than to enter into any kind of "arrangement" with Microsoft. I have many questions about SQL Server CALs and Windows Server 2008 CALs. How can I obtain authoritative/legally binding answers? I am not looking for FREE legal advice. I AM looking for FREE advice about who/what/where I can responsibly spend my money to get meaningful information. I fear that passing this on to the local company law firm will just mean that I will be paying them to educate themselves on Microsoft licensing. And if that's like writing code to a new Microsoft API - they are not going to get it right the first time. Going to Microsoft for answers sounds like swimming up to a hungry shark and asking "One leg or two?" I am hoping someone has been down this road before and knows a law firm/lawyer that is experienced in these matters. Any help/suggestion welcome. Thanks.

    Possible Duplicate: My server's been hacked EMERGENCY I just got an e-mail from my hosting company that they got a report of malicious content being hosted on my vps. I was unaware of this and started looking into it. I discovered a file called /var/www/mysite.com/osc.htm. Soon after I discovered some weird php files wp-includes.php and ndlist.php both recognized as being PHP/WebShell.A.1 virus. I removed all these files but I'm unsure of what to do next.   • Cannot remove storage account because of lease, but I already deleted the server [closed]

    I recently created a temporary virtual server on Azure. Then I deleted it. I wanted to delete the storage account associated with it because I didn't need it any more. The problem is that the VHD file is still associated to a non-existing virtual machine!! If I try to delete the VHD from Virtual Machines\Disks I get the Delete button greyed and the table tells me it's still associated with the old VM. If I go to storage administration and try to delete the blob from vhds/ directory I get there is an active lease. I've read on Azure forums that, in these case, one should try to force releasing the lease from the blob. I followed their instructions and downloaded their script, but running it failed. The script detected that the disk is associated to a Virtual Machine and can't be deleted. The problem is that I'm 1000000% sure that I already deleted the VM. In fact, I currently only have a single VM that has its own HD and is up and running fine! What can I do to delete that storage account that is probably sucking money from my pocket?

    Up until a month ago, my girlfriend has used MobileMe to backup all the files on her MacBook. This turned out terribly when a quirk of MobileMe caused it to erase all of her files on MobileMe, and then sync the newly-erased MobileMe down to her computer, erasing everything. A week's worth of college essays and CS homework were gone. Now, I am terrified of any commercial cloud-backup solutions because of the possibility of this happening. Going off the list provided in these answers, could you please help me find a good backup service that is completely one-way? I want a service where there is literally not a single line of code that has the possibility of writing to my computer's drive. I want a pure one-way backup service.
