• How to retrieve the GUID for Yahoo's Contacts API

  I'm attemping to use the Yahoo Contacts API to add an "invite your friends" feature on a site I'm building. I've found the correct web service to call (http://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user/{guid}/contacts) but it is asking for the user's GUID, not their username/password. I've searched, and am unable to find a "lookup" feature through the Yahoo API which lets me get the user's guid from their username/password. Does anyone have any experience with the Contacts API. I've reaad over the documentation, and looked at YQL as well, but I still haven't found how to get the user's guid. Thanks guys.

  So i am doing a research on how can i infer knowledge from reports (not with a specific format), but after pre processing, i should have some kind of formatted data. A fairly basic inference would be: "Retailer has X stock." and "X is sellable." - "Retailer sells X" the knowledge i focus is retail domain oriented, and if possible i should improve its efficiency with each iteration. Is this scifi(some of my friends think it is)? The related stuff i find online are "expert systems" that find anomalies, fuzzy inference systems and some rants about "easy knowledge". Can you help me with some points for me to focus or orient me in some research directions? blueomega

• Does the UISplitViewController have to be the root controller of an iPad app?

  Hey friends, According to Apple's documentation on the UISplitViewController (in the new iPad 3.2 SDK) it looks like they intend for you to use it only as a root controller of an app. In other words...it seams like you cannot push a UISplitViewController onto a UINavigationController because obviously the UINavigationController would need to hold the split view. Can anyone confirm if this is a true limitation of the UISplitViewController? I was hoping to use the split view in my app a few levels deep in my UINavigationController hierarchy but it looks like I won't be able to do that unless there is a way. Thank you!

  Ok my Giant friends once again I seek a little space in your shoulders :P Here is the issue, I have a python script that is fixing some database issues but it is taking way too long, the main update statement is this: cursor.execute("UPDATE jiveuser SET username = '%s' WHERE userid = %d" % (newName,userId)) That is getting called about 9500 times with different newName and userid pairs... Any suggestions on how to speed up the process? Maybe somehow a way where I can do all updates with just one query? Any help will be much appreciated! PS: Postgres is the db being used.

  hi my dear friends ... i am using asp.net with c# web app in vs 2008 problem 1: i do not know why Telerik RadControls- RadFormDecorator Moves some controls (such as Buttons or chech boxes) and changes their positioning up or down in my form after viewing in browser... i put those controls in a cell of a table ... but not help i had this problem about radajaxmanager and by setting UpdatePanelsRenderMode property to inline problem solved - but here there is no property like that... what is going on here? problem2: i decorated my buttons and chechboxes with radformdecorator (telerik radcontrols) control... when i click on a checkbox to set it to true or false so my webpage positioning goes to up (like when postback occurs , but this is not postback) how can i prevent this problem ? thanks for attention

• Pushing a variable onto a vector, value at that point in vector changes when the variable does.

  I have a programming problem =) std::vector<char*> Names; if(MyPacket.ID == 3) {Names.push_back(MyPacket.Buffer);} I push the recieved buffer onto a vector like so, but when the buffer changes so does the value of the variable at that point in the vector. So say I sent and pushed a buffer containing 'Simon' onto the vector that would be fine so at point [0] on the vector would be the word Simon. but then when I recieve a new buffer it overwrites position [0] even though the packets ID is different, a breakpoint within the if statement is not reached with this new buffer. I really hope i'm explaining this well enough, I tried asking a friends advice and he pointed me towards this site. Any help appreciated David Andrews

  Hi all, I have used wmd-editor in my cakephp v1.3 application.   I have a local git repository a "central" repo at github. I'm working on a part of a project, while a friend is working on a related piece that is its entirely seperate repo, is it possible for me to simply link directly to my friends repo? For example, the app is called widgets. I have all my code in widgets/app/mycode and my friend is writing code that goes into widgets/plugins/awesome/hiscode. I want to be able to always have http://github.com/mycode/widgets/plugins/hiscode to be a direct link or clone to http://github.com/hiscode/awesome ? It could be possible i'm missing something basic in my question or knowledge of git, if so please ask, and i'll be happy to try to fill in the blanks.

Your application gives security rules whenever a picture is allowed to be displayed. For example users must be friends on each sides by the system, in order that you can view someone else's uploaded pictures. Here comes the problem: it is possible that someone crawls the image directories of your server. But you want to protect your users from such attacks. If it's possible to put the binary data of an image directly into the HTML markup, you can restrict the user access of your image dirs the user and group your web application runs of and pass the image data to your Apache user and group directly in the HTML. The only possible weakness then is the password of the user that your web app runs as. Is there already a possibility?

• what are the advantages of C# over Python

  I like Python mostly for the great portability and the ease of coding, but I was wondering, what are some of the advantages that C# has over Python? The reason I ask is that one of my friends runs a private server for an online game (UO), and he offered to make me a dev if I wanted, but the software for the server is all written in C#. I'd love to do this, but I don't really have time to do multiple languages, and I was just after a few more reasons to justify taking C# over Python to myself.   Hello friends, I am a Qt beginner and just got stuck with the problem. I am looking for a file SomePath/NewDirectoryA/NewFile.kml ( NewFile.kml will be the only file in NewDirectoryA, having this directory just to maintain semantics in the project ). If SomePath/NewDirectoryA/NewFile.kml exists then I will use it in my code and If it doesn't exist then I have to create it. If this File doesn't exist then this directory also doesn't exist in SomePath. So If only I have to create a file I can use QFile and open it in ReadWrite or WriteOnly mode. But the problem is I have to create the file with the directory itself. I tried with QFile with file name SomePath/NewDirectoryA/NewFile.kml but it didn't worked. Please suggest me a way in which I can create a new file( NewFile.kml ) in a new directory( NewDirectorA ) at a given location( SomePath ).

  hello friends i am having three drop downs and button in my web page naming 1st 2nd and 3rd in which the value of 2nd depends on 1st and value of 3rd depends on 2dn its done using ajax now when i click on the button it calls one function of ajax which takes value from database and then select value at 1st dropdown and then fire on change event using fireEvent() function which is used to set values in 2nd dropdown and then the function called at button now select value at 2nd dropdown and then fire on change event using fireEvent() function which is used to set values in 3rd dropdown The main problem is that when i click on button it set value in 1st dropdown but 2nd and 3rd dropdown shows blank values
