• UIView Horizontal scroll for a part of a screen

  Hi Friends, I have a requirement for scrolling a part of a view horizontally. there are 2 views, mainView(0,70,320*2,400) and a horizontalView(0,0,320*2,160)[this horizontalView has an internal UIScrollView with the same frame] So the horizontal view will occupy the first section of the screen and it should only be scrollable horizontally (and the other part of the mainView - the other part of the screen should be static). how to achieve this? i am getting a general scroll for the whole page not for the first section alone. am i in the right direction for this problem? please advice Thank you

• Mysql two table query

  I'm using two tables. First (friendlist), which contains users who are on the list of friends and the other table (members) that contains the basic data of the users. Friendlist looks like: id | myid | date | user ----------------------------------------- 001 | 50624 | 2010-01-01 | 32009 002 | 41009 | 2010-05-05 | 50624 003 | 50624 | 2010-03-02 | 23007 The column "myid" contains members who added other users (those from column "user") to their frindlist. I want to get the list of all users that I have added to list and those who add me to their friendlist. In this example, if my id is 50624, the list would look like: | allfriends | --------------- 32009 41009 23007 Then I need to check all users from "allfriend" list with data from the table "members". I want to get only the users with status 1. The members table looks like: id | status | photo -------------------------------- 32009 | 0 | 1.jpg 41009 | 1 | 2.jpg 23007 | 1 | 3.jpg How this mysql query should look like? Thanks for any help.

  I am going to test my website speed, primary the webserver latency. Summarize what I want to achieve: 1) a webpage with javascript hosted in my website(http://myweb.com/test-speed.html) 2) I give this url to my friends 3) They don't need to do anything, they just need to access this webpage then the latency is printed out in the webpage. 4) If the webpage can also tell which state the visitor is in(using IP address range database), it will be a plus. Any existing solutions? I can modify the javascript to log the data into database, but I think the core here is how to writ the javascript to know the latency.

  Hi friends, I want to print a table in pdf document. I need to use two javabean datasource to populate the data in the table. • How to extract a couple marked strings from a line (python)

  My Friends, I spent quite some time on this one... but cannot yet figure out a better way to do it. I am coding in python, by the way. So, here is a line of text in a file I am working with, for example: "ref|ZP_01631227.1| 3-dehydroquinate synthase [Nodularia spumigena CCY9414]..." How can I extract the two strings "ZP_01631227.1" and "Nodularia spumigena CCY9414" from the line? The pairs of "| |" and brackets are like markers so we know we want to get the strings in between the two... I guess I can probably loop over all the characters in the line and do it the hard way. It just takes so much time... Wondering if there is a python library or other smart ways to do it nicely? Thanks to all!

  I have a local git repository a "central" repo at github. I'm working on a part of a project, while a friend is working on a related piece that is its entirely seperate repo, is it possible for me to simply link directly to my friends repo? For example, the app is called widgets. I have all my code in widgets/app/mycode and my friend is writing code that goes into widgets/plugins/awesome/hiscode. I want to be able to always have http://github.com/mycode/widgets/plugins/hiscode to be a direct link or clone to http://github.com/hiscode/awesome ? It could be possible i'm missing something basic in my question or knowledge of git, if so please ask, and i'll be happy to try to fill in the blanks. I am deploying to my production site via capistrano, so maybe a script of some kind may be easier?? I don't know (that's why i'm posting)!!

  First off I want to say that I wasn't really sure where to post this but it is very much programming related. If it is in the wrong spot I apologize and please let me know where I should post it instead. When sharing an article on a friends wall, facebook will grab a thumbnail of the article. How do they always get the right thumbnail from articles? It doesn't grab the logo img element of of http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/07/world/asia/07convoys.html?hp for example but rather grabs the correct image element that corresponds with the article. I'm looking to do something similar and was wondering of a good way to parse the html to find the image given this example. Thanks.

• Error occure while validating form input using JQUERY in Firebug

  Hello Friends, I have written a custom validation code in JQUERY. which is working fine. I have a login form which have two fields i.e. userid and password. I have written a custom JQUERY code for client side validation for these fields. This custom JQUERY code is working fine and gives me proper error messages as per the situation. But the problem with this code is that when I enter the invalid data in any or both field and press submit button of form then it displays the proper error message but at the same time when I checked it in Firebug it displays following error message when submit button of the form is clicked validate is not defined function onclick(event) { javascript: return validate(); }(click clientX=473, clientY=273) So please tell me where is I am wrong in my Jquery code.   Hi, I have rails app which has a list of users. I have different relations between users, for example worked with, friend, preferred. When listing the users i have to decide if the current user can add a specific user to his friends. -if current_user.can_request_friendship_with(user) =add_to_friends(user) -else =remove_from_friends(user) -if current_user.can_request_worked_with(user) =add_to_worked_with(user) -else =remove_from_worked_with(user) The can_request_friendship_with(user) looks like: def can_request_friendship_with(user) !self.eql?(user) && !self.friendships.find_by_friend_id(user) end My problem is that this means in my case 4 query per user. Listing 10 users means 40 query. Could i somehow eager load this?

  There's a convoluted backstory involving how I came across this, but why is the self property not exactly equal to the window itself? In Safari and Firefox and friends, the results are as I'd expect: > window == window.self true > window === window.self true The same isn't true in Internet Explorer, though: >> window == window.self true >> window === window.self false Can anybody account for the inconsistency? To exactly what is the self property of the window object pointing? It casts to something with equality, which is even more vexing.

• Leverage cloud and programming to share GB's of photos

  My friends and I went on a trip and we have over 8 GB of photos we want to share. We live in different geographic locations and all of us (14 people) have a part of the 8 GB. I was wondering if there's a way to leverage my php skills to share all these photos. My current plan is to make a simple site that you can upload a bunch of files and also list those files for people to download (probably a compressed folder of a bunch of selected ones) but was wondering if there's a better way or if I'm grossly underestimating scalability issues. All of us have high speed internet (essentially T1) and I was planning on using Amazon EC2 since this is a heavy task but for a short time period. That's also the reason I can't use dropbox or similar services since they have a 2GB cap (and I don't want to have everyone sign up and install something). I also don't want to set up anything too tricky since not all of them are tech savvy.

• Javascript: Save json data as a file on the server / user's hard disk.

  I have developed an app that allows the user to fill out text fields with information. I want them to be able to press a button that will make a file with data (a really long array with info on what they typed and where it should go) so they can reload the data at a later date. I don't have a server now, and I am sending this app as a standalone html app to my friends for their use until I get hosing / mySql / etc. Is there a way that when they click on a button it will take this data (saved as an array, save_data), put it into a file, and basically begin the download process from their web-browser? And later on, what tech would I need to be looking into to save this into online user accounts?

• C++ online RPG game

  So I've been learning C++ and SDL to make some basic 2d games. I want to create a game sort of like World of Warcraft but a 2D version. I want it to be online and use a database or something to start data like amount of Gold, HP, etc. I was wondering though, if I do this in SDL, would it still work online or would the user have to download SDL themselves to play? I just want a game like this but be able to play it with some friends, just for learning purposes you know. I was also looking at DirectX because everyone has that on windows pretty much.   As far as I can tell, there have been (at least?) three types of icon embedding. There's the original style used by shell32.dll and friends, .Net's embedding, and the new type that WPF uses. I'm looking for how to perform the first one, as I want to have a few other icons available as resources for a jumplist, which can only accept that style. However, I can't figure out how to embed in this style, only the other two. How do I do this? All the results I find on google, etc are for adding icons to ResX files or similar. I am using C#, if it matters.

• Can NSUserDefaults be used for pausing the application during a phone call ?

  Friends, currently I dont have iphone to test and using Simulator for testing purposes. I am Just curious to know whether an application continues to run even after a phone call.. here i have no option to test this from simulator. If it terminates then how can i pause things.. and continue after a phone call. Is NSUserDefaults can be used for my case. As far I understood NSuserDefaults are used to store data that is required when the App is next time loaded. But here I dont want my App to terminate instead pause until Call ends and continue as uninterrupted later. Please clear me about this. Sorry I am still a beginner so I request for no harsh replies if my question looks stupid. Thanks in Advance

  Hi! Just a very small question... I seem to run into too much complexity here: I have to realize an index-structure like {42, someString}. I tried: Object entry[][] = new Object[1][1]; ArrayList<Object> my_list = new ArrayList<Object>(); However that looks really strange. Isn't there a better much simpler solution to just store some Integer and a String? I need to perfrom search for the Strings and return the Integer... so I thought Collections and ArrayLists are good friends in the Java API.
