• I'm running Ubuntu notebook on a USB drive with 1GB persistence. Where are my XAMPP files?

  I just began running Ubuntu Notebook on my 2GB USB stick, with 1GB persistence. After I installed XAMPP, I rebooted to make sure the persistence was working. It worked! My XAMPP installation worked, and it comes up when I type localhost into the browser. The sample apps work, including the ones using MySQL. But I can't find the application files! I am used to the vast labyrinth of files in Windows Explorer, and looking through 'Files and Folders' in GNOME, there seem to only be 7 or 8 folders in the entire OS? What is really going on here? I looked through them all and where is XAMPP? When I code PHP with a WAMP stack, all the .php files go in the 'WWW folder' What is the Linux equivalent of the WWW folder?

• Windows - A different way to Search files by extension

  I'd like to search all files that are different from a specific extension. So, if I search files by using the string *.doc I'd like to see every files that are not .doc. I also would like to hidden the sub-folders in the result display by using that search (but the search must of course search into sub-folders) :) Is it possible this on Windows Vista/7? SOLUTION Finded the solution by using this string NOT *.doc AND NOT tipologia:=cartella This for the italian version. English should be similar, somethings like NOT *.doc AND NOT kind:=folder

• Best way to convert from IMAP to POP3?

  At work, I connect to a corporate Exchange server via IMAP and Thunderbird 3. Over the course of a year or so, I've created quite a few folders on the server and have a lot of mail stored there. I'm hitting the storage limit of my mail account and want to convert to pulling mail down to my local box (running Linux) via POP3. I know that polling mail will only get mail in INBOX, but I'm wondering if there are solutions out there that could be used to pull mail from the other folders as well, or am I doomed to moving mail into the inbox manually and polling over and over again?

• Windows 7 - Add folder to Explorer Favorites navigation pane from the Command Line

  In Windows 7 is there a way to add a location to the Explorer Favorites navigation pane from the command line? I'm working with systems that are frequently re-imaged, and I would like to automate adding a number of favorite folders to explorer. I imagine these favorites are also stored in the registry. If someone knows where, I could probably automate managing them through the reg command, although this is less than ideal. I've looked at a number of locations related to explorer suggested here, but haven't found them yet.   I like the system of multiple gmail labels but am concerned about space used. I think that TB stores a separate copy of the whole email in every folder corresponding to a gmail label [including a copy in the "allmail" folder along with a separate copy in the each of the other folders]. Can I arrange to store a single copy of the email in TB,[perhaps in the allmail folder] with a shortcut type pointer from the individual folders to that single copy.[i.e for every email with one gmail label [eg personal] there are already 2 copies in TB, one in the allmail folder and a second in the "personal" folder

  Hi all, I am learning how to use JQuery validation plugin, and came across some questions about the JQuery magic that works on the sumbit action. I got a simple HTML form which has got an input text field like this: <form class="cmxform" id="commentForm" method="get" action=""> <input id="cname" name="name" size="25" class="required" minlength="2" /> <input class="submit" type="submit" value="Submit"/> </form> The magic happened when I tried not to input any data into the field and pressed the submit button. I saw an error message in red pop up, and no matter how hard and how many times I pressed the submit button, nothing was submitted. It seemed that there was some scripts that disabled the submit action, but I just couldn't find which lines of codes in the JQuery Validatyion Plugin that did it.

I want/need to rename everything within a folder that matches a given string. By everything I mean folders/files content within a file content in hidden files Basically I want to refactor a Java-project. Sure, I could use Eclipse to handle the replacing, but this leaves out the folders or resources outside of my workspace. I was thinking of a script that could do the job for me but this seems rather tricky. For instance when it comes to folder-/file-rename I want to replace only the part of the name that matches my string, the rest should remain untouched. Maybe someone already has something like this in his/her script-collection :-) Thanks in advance Marc

• XSD traversal in VIM

  I use VIM as my text editor and I edit a lot of XML and WSDL files. WSDL files have an XSD section. Is there some VIM plugin I can use to traverse the XSD types? i.e., if I have the following line and the caret is where the '|' sign is: <xsd:element minOccurs="0" name="FooName" type="Magic|FooType"/> and I press Ctrl+Alt+Foo (or some other magic combo) it will get me to the definition of MagicFooType, i.e.: <xsd:complexType name="MagicFooType"> I couldn't find how to use ctags for this and all the other plugins that I could find are for imperative languages (i.e. Java). Is there some plugin/script to do the job?

• Mac sees mangled filenames from Linux SAMBA share

  Certain filenames in my SAMBA shares from Linux are not getting transmitted properly. It's certain files in certain folders and it doesn't affect all folders or all files within a single folder. I can find no discerning pattern to the mangling but hoping that this is a known problem. No amount of reboot, restart, etc. will fix this problem. The filenames, when they get mangled, all end up in this form: 0JY4B3~H.M4V 0MBS1O~M.M4V 0NKDX9~R.M4V 0O0ZTA~A.M4V These are MPEG4 files. The extension remains intact. Any ideas?

• File permission mask/mode settings for Samba on FreeNAS?

  I'm currently working on the Samba settings on a FreeNAS server. When any user creates a file or a folder on the server I want the file or folder to get the following RWX permissions: Folders: drwxrws--- Files: -rwxrws--- To set the permissions like this manually I use chmod 2770 which works great. But I want this to happen automatically and therefore I've added the following lines to smb.conf: create mask = 2770 directory mask = 2770 force create mode = 2770 force directory mode = 2770 But when I test by creating a file in one of the folders it get's these permissions: Folder: drwxrwx File: -rwxrw---- What am I overlooking or doing wrong? Is the order of the lines relevant? Does the setgid digit (the 2 in 2770) mess things up?

  I almost like Picasa, but there are two issues that irk me and I wondered if anyone knew of an application that does what Picasa does but without the following problems: Network drives. Picasa is hopeless with network drives. Ideally, I'd like photos to be stored remotely and thumbnail databases to be stored locally with a client-server set-up to update client databases. The main aim is to get updates propagated to clients efficently, reduce network bandwidth and have quick browsing on the client. It needs to be snappy when used over a wireless network. This is just a minor point but the folder view looks awful, especially when it uses those tiny thumbnails. (Also, what is it with folders being drawn vertically. Having spent years looking at folders orientated horizontally, turning them on their side looks so wrong.)

  So I have this SharePoint 2007 site that is basically trash. I'm supposed to just toss it, but I'm in need of copying all of the data in form of traditional files and folders from certain projects. And since the transaction log is full, it's so damn slow. Even opening SharePoint takes up to 15 minutes, or it won't open at all. Copying of files is extremely slow. So I'm in need of a quick fix here. Just to be able to copy out some files and folders. I don't need to fix the problem per se. What can I do to fix it temporarily to be able to copy out the data?

• Can't access files on external drive after reformatting Macbook Pro

  I recently had to reformat my Macbook Pro, and imported my account and settings from Time Machine via the Migration Assistant. Everything on the Mac itself is fine, but now I don't have permission to access almost everything on my external drive. A number of folders have the little red 'no access' sign on them and I can't rename or move anything. Looking at the info for these files, it appears that access rights were attached only to my old user account. Is there some way to reassign these files and folders to my new user account? Thanks.

• Using mod_rewrite to shutdown website.

  Hi, I am trying to shutdown a website to everyone except my ip address. I almost have it working. I cannot access www.mysite.com, but I can access all folders that have another .htaccess file in them. I have a .htaccess file in /www with the following code: #Use this when website is down RewriteEngine on #this allows access through my ip RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} !^(66\.777\.888\.99)$ RewriteRule !down.php$ /down.php [L] Some folders in my site have .htaccess files in them. If I have a file with the line: RewriteEngine on I can still access the folder. For example, if I have the second .htaccess file in /www/about, then I can still access mysite.com/about (but the .css file included on that page actually loads down.php). If I delete "RewriteEngine on" I get redirected to down.php. Any ideas? I think my mod_rewrite gets confused with multiple .htaccess files. Thanks!

• OWA draft folder doesn't sync up wint Outlook 2007 (when using Citrix)

  I have a user logging in to Citrix Server (on Windows 2003) to use Outlook 2007. In OWA, he sees all his drafts in Draft Folder and can easily access them, but when he is Citrix, he can see the folder, but not the messages. I had him check Normal and Favorite Folders under View - Navigation Pane as well as execute outlook /cleanviews to no help. I should also clarify, we host exchange locally and it syncs up with Outlook 2007 in Citrix. Remote users use either OWA for access or login to Citrix and use Outlook 2007. In his case ALL folders appear in Outlook 2007, but draft folder doesn't show any saved messages, even though in OWA messages are there and he can edit, delete and send them. Please, help! Thanks!!!

  I'm looking for a good batch script that would quickly find & clean all the known safe temporary folders/files from Windows (as many variants as possible) machines (e.g. the windows temp folder, all users IE temp folders, etc.). I'm fond of UI tools like CCleaner (over Cleanmgr.exe), but when I'm trying to clean several computers quickly and/or with minimal involvement, it would be nice to have a script. Plus with a script, I could chain several scripts together. Maybe one to then fire up various antivirus and/or malware detectors. Anyone have a good one or can point to a good resource?

We want to be able to print the entire hierarchy, which means rendering the whole thing on one page. I see a number of web sites like this one that seem to have something like this.   Say I have a pictures folder which I reorganized on one computer. I'd like to use that directory as the base and compare it with another version on a backup drive. Will any sync/compare program find that a file in one folder has moved locations within a compare folder. For instance say I reorganized my pictures from trips into folders by year with the trips folders inside each year folder. If I use a regular compare utility I wind up with two copies of everything that's moved in different locations.

• Generate metadata of all files in a dir?

  We are working on a project that is quite big, and its stored in an SVN repository under different folders with many files all over the place. Quite often, it is hard to locate the document that has a certain keyword or phrase. Does anyone know of any program that will generate and index the metadata of all the files that are in these documentation folders? (most filetypes are: xls, doc, ppt). Windows Search and Google Desktop could be an option but that would generally index the whole hard drive, emails, etc and thats probably much more than what we need and would not be suited for something more folder specific. Example of what im looking for: a program or webpage where i enter "John Doe" and it will show me all files in MyProjectFolder/ that contain the keyword "John Doe". This of course will already be indexed somewhere so searches should be almost instantaneous. Is there such a tool or i am asking too much? Thanks in advance!

• Use DOS batch to move all files up 1 directory

  I have created a batch file to be executed through the right-click menu in Win7. When I right-click on a folder, I would like the batch file to move all files (excluding folders) up 1 directory. I have this so far: PUSHHD %1 MOVE "%1\*.*" ..\ This seems to work as long as the folder I'm moving files from doesn't have any spaces. When the folder does have spaces, I get an error message: "The syntax of the command is incorrect." So my batch works on a folder titled PULLTEST but not on a folder titled PULL TEST. Again, I don't need it to move folders, just files. And I would like it to work in any directory on any drive. There will be no specific directories that I will be working in. It will be random. Below is the registry file I made if needed for reference.   I'm profiling code of a game I wrote and I'm wondering how it is possible that the following snippet causes an heap increase of 4kb (I'm profiling with Heapshot Analysis of Xcode) every time it is executed: u8 WorldManager::versionOfMap(FILE *file) { char magic[4]; u8 version; fread(magic, 4, 1, file); <-- this is the line fread(&version,1,1,file); fseek(file, 0, SEEK_SET); return version; } According to the profiler the highlighted line allocates 4.00Kb of memory with a malloc every time the function is called, memory which is never released. This thing seems to happen with other calls to fread around the code, but this was the most eclatant one. Is there anything trivial I'm missing? Is it something internal I shouldn't care about? Just as a note: I'm profiling it on an iPhone and it's compiled as release (-O2).
