• Why is my program getting slower and slower ?

  I'm using the program to send data from database to the Excel file . It works fine at the beginning and then becomes more and more slowly,finally it run out of the memory and the following error ocurrs: "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space...". The problem can be resolved by adding the jvm heap sapce.But the question is that it spends too much time to run out the program. After several minutes,it finished a loop with 4 seconds which can be finished with 0.5 seconds at the beginning . I can't found a solution to make it always run in a certain speed. Is it my code problem? Any clues on this? • WPA2 authentication fails on Ubuntu 12.04 using Rosewill RNX-N1

  Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. RNX-X1 works on other systems (including TV); also have 2 of 'em and tried each. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. Would appreciate some diagnostic guidance and insight (phrased for a newbie!) • Network really slow with TL-WN951N wireless card

  I literally just installed ubuntu and it seems to be working great except the network is deadly slow. I'm running a TL-WN951N wireless card which can download at about 600-700 KB/s in windows but in Ubuntu the max speed it seems to get is around 5KB/s. I guess I should note that my WAP is only wireless-G but like I said, I can get much better speeds in Windows. I'm testing the speeds by downloading files from here: http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/test/ Anyone have any idea? I saw some people recommend downloading drivers and compiling them myself but I'm really really new to all of this so would appreciate someone babying me through it so I don't brick my computer!   I have an ATI graphics card with an AGP connection and a DVI port, and an Intel graphics processor on the motherboard with a VGA port. I have two monitors.   I have weired issue. I did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 12.04. Then I installed Nvidia drives for my graphics card. I executed the command "modprobe nvidia" after installing the Nvidia drivers and rebooted. After reboot, sound indicator in top panel is disabled and I can't control the volume from there. I opened Settings Sound and it does not show any sound card installed. However, I can hear the sound. Please help. • Ubuntu boots to totally blank after I installed some graphic card updates

  I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, dual boot with win7 on ThinkPad T400, I followed Ubuntu update hints and installed some update for my ATI Radeon graphic card, but when I boot to Ubuntu(means I can still load GRUB), the tragedy happened, the screen goes to blank and no matter what key stroke, I can not get any responds, I try to go to text terminal, but impossible! However when I hit the power button, the computer would pop out the Ubuntu shutdown screen briefly and shut down. I figure out I should delete the updates package of my graphic card, but I don't even get a chance to go to text terminal, please help me!

  I used 'additional drivers' to install 'Broadcom STA wireless driver' and it returns an error. WIthin jockey.log it says the following numerous times. 2011-02-14 21:24:06,945 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted After it returns the error the network card will work temporarily until I restart the laptop. When I restart I got to go through the procedure again of trying to activate the driver, returns an error however it works temporarily. • Purple line on left side of screen when I use graphics card's hdmi port

  My graphics card is a nVidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB. When I plug HDMI into mobo it works fine. When I plug it into the graphics card (with 2nd monitor too) it shows a purple vertical line on the left side. It adds 2 pixels to the width and I can't adjust it with my monitor. It doesn't come up when I print screen. I tried changing the driver to the binary one (at the top) but that made it not show up at all. What do I do? Are some graphics cards just not compatible?

• Adding cards to a vector for computer card game

  I am writing a Card game that has a deck size of 30 cards, each one of them has to be a unique, or at least a another (new XXXX) statement in a .push_back function, into a vector. Right now my plan is to add them to a vector one at a time with four separate, depending on what deck type you choose, collections of thirty .push_back functions. If the collection of card is not up for customization, other than what one of the four suits you pick, is there a quicker way of doing this, seems kinda tedious, and something that someone would have found a better way of doing.

• Volume widget issue with sound card hotplugging

  When plugging a USB sound card may sometimes cause the current audio output (ie. Banshee and PC speakers) to switch immediately. But the volume controls (sound widget in systray, volume keyboard keys) are stuck on the old sound card. Plug a soundcard and amplifier while the volume is set to ultra high for the pc speakers. You can't control the volume without opening the sound settings or alsamixer. This could probably cause neighbour disturbance in some countries. You can't control it with the sound widget of the systray nor the volume keyboard keys. How to disable auto switch of hardware audio output, or enable auto switch of software volume controls ? It would be great to make the software behaviour consistent with the hardware's. Ubuntu 11.10 vanilla up to date.

• Broadcom wireless card disappeards on restart

  I used 'additional drivers' to install 'Broadcom STA wireless driver' and it returns an error. WIthin jockey.log it says the following numerous times. 2011-02-14 21:24:06,945 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted After it returns the error the network card will work temporarily until I restart the laptop. When I restart I got to go through the procedure again of trying to activate the driver, returns an error however it works temporarily.   I have an Atheros AR8131 Ethernet card on a Lenovo b560 laptop. Sometime in the past, probably at some upgrade or other my wired connection stopped functioning. I know the card is ok because it works with windows. I tried upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10 hoping the problem would go away. It didn't... Tried to google the problem, but all of the solutions I found didn't work for me. This is probably a driver problem. Any help will be appreciated. Please note that I'm a linux newbie so I don't really know what logs to post... Niv

• Creating the Business Card Request InfoPath Form

  Business Card Request Demo Files Back in January I spoke at SharePoint Saturday Virginia Beach about InfoPath forms and Web Part deployment.  Below is some of the information and details regarding the form I created for the session.  There are many blogs and Microsoft articles on how to create a basic form so I won’t repeat that information here.   This blog will just explain a few of the options I chose when creating the solutions for SPS Virginia Beach.  The above link contains the zipped package files of the two InfoPath forms(no code solution and coded solution), the list template for the Location list I used, and the PowerPoint deck.  If you plan to use these templates, you will need to update the forms to work within your own environments (change data connections, code links, etc.).  Also, you must have the SharePoint Enterprise version, with InfoPath Services configured in order to use the Web Browser enabled forms. So what are the requirements for this template? Business Card Request Form Template Design Plan: Gather user information and requirements for card Pull in as much user information as possible. Use data from the user profile web services as a data source Show and hide fields as necessary for requirements Create multiple views – one for those submitting the form and Another view for the executive assistants placing the orders. Browser based form integrated into SharePoint team site Submitted directly to form library The base form was created using the blank template.  The table and rows were added using Insert tab and selecting Custom Table.  The use of tables is a great way to make sure everything lines up.  You do have to split the tables from time to time.  If you’ve ever split cells and then tried to re-align one to find that you impacted the others, you know why.  Here is what the base form looks like in InfoPath.   Show and hide fields as necessary for requirements You will notice I also used Sections within the form.  These show or hide depending on options selected or whether or not fields are blank.  This is a great way to prevent your users from feeling overwhelmed with a large form (this one wouldn’t apply).  Although not used in this one, you can also use various views with a tab interface.  I’ll show that in another post. Gather user information and requirements for card Pull in as much user information as possible. Use data from the user profile web services as a data source Utilizing rules you can load data when the form initiates (Data tab, Form Load).  Anything you can automate is always appreciated by the user as that is data they don’t have to enter.  For example, loading their user id or other user information on load: Always keep in mind though how much data you load and the method for loading that data (through rules, code, etc.).  They have an impact on form performance.  The form will take longer to load if you bring in a ton of data from external sources.  Laura Rogers has a great blog post on using the User Information List to load user information.   If the user has logged into SharePoint, then this can be used quite effectively and without a huge performance hit.   What I have found is that using the User Profile service via code behind or the Web Service “GetUserProfileByName” (as above) can take more time to load the user data.  Just food for thought. You must add the data connection in order for the above rules to work.  You can connect to the data connection through the Data tab, Data Connections or select Manage Data Connections link which appears under the main data source.  The data connections can be SharePoint lists or libraries, SQL data tables, XML files, etc.  Create multiple views – one for those submitting the form and Another view for the executive assistants placing the orders. You can also create multiple views for the users to enhance their experience.  Once they’ve entered the information and submitted their request for business cards, they don’t really need to see the main data input screen any more.  They just need to view what they entered. From the Page Design tab, select New View and give the view a name.  To review the existing views, click the down arrow under View: The ReviewView shows just what the user needs and nothing more: Once you have everything configured, the form should be tested within a Test SharePoint environment before final deployment to production.  This validates you don’t have any rules or code that could impact the server negatively. Submitted directly to form library   You will need to know the form library that you will be submitting to when publishing the template.  Configure the Submit data connection to connect to this library.  There is already one configured in the sample,  but it will need to be updated to your environment prior to publishing. The Design template is different from the Published template.  While both have the .XSN extension, the published template contains all the “package” information for the form.  The published form is what is loaded into Central Admin, not the design template. Browser based form integrated into SharePoint team site In Central Admin, under General Settings, select Manage Form Templates.  Upload the published form template and Activate it to a site collection. Now it is available as a content type to select in the form library.  Some documentation on publishing form templates:  Technet – Manage administrator approved form templates And that’s all our base requirements.  Hope this helps to give a good start.

• Atheros 9250 wireless card keeps on disconnecting

  So I bought a Lenovo G575 laptop for learning purposes and found that the connection just simply disconnects if i'ts in use for downloading and it also does disconnect in every 2-5 minutes while browsing.I tested the card with Win7, it worked nicely.Since then I searched through all the topics connected to this card, also tried using older distros, Maverick ended up with the same results as the actual 12.04 distribution.I dont think it's the router cause i could access it from Win7.It's causing me a trouble using an external usb, cause it's taken from another PC in the house.I would be really grateful if someone could explain what should i do to fix it. The installation instructions at http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Oneiric_Installation_Guide download catalyst 12.1 However, there is no download available at http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx for my AGP card. Only Windows drivers are available. Should I go ahead and use the guide and manually install 12.1? I assume it's not on the amd website for a reason, but I was wondering if anybody had any experience with this. Thanks!

• Graphic card for parallel programming vs traditional methods

  With a simple search in amazon one can see that the modern approach for parallel programming is to use your graphic card. However I am still a little bit skeptical about it. My last computer has an 8 core CPU which I need is enough for basic all my parallel needs, if I need more I will probably use MPI through a network using my old machines. All in all, Why and/or when should I use CUDA or another method which uses my graphic card instead of traditional methods like pthreads, java threads, boost threads or the new C++ 11 threads? What about using processes?

• Mint 13 no longer using NVidia card after restart

  Here's the story; I bought a new graphics card, along with other parts, about a week ago. I put them in, install new drivers everything's working fine. Now after a restart I boot into some lovely 1024x768 resolution with only one screen on. I check in the NVidia X Server settings to see if my screen was changed there, there's nothing there except Application profiles and nvidia-settings. I check hardinfo to see if the card is actually recognised; VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK106 [GeForce GTX 660] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) I don't really know much about the graphics end of things so I'm not sure what I should be doing here to fix this, I don't even know what I should be looking FOR even, so any help is much appreciated!   Brand new user to Ubuntu and Linux. Quick question that I think already know the answer to: Does Ubuntu 11.10 have an updated driver for my graphics card? I was planning on being able to s-video out and watch videos on my tv like I could when I had Vista installed. daryl@daryl-Aspire-3050:~$ lspci -nn | grep VGA 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M] [1002:5975] ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 is the actual card. As it is, Ubuntu is not recognizing when I plug an s-video cable into my laptop. I've narrowed it down to using what I think is a generic driver because all of the s-video enable commands I found and tried have failed.

• Boots to a totally blank screen after I installed some ATI Radeon card updates

  I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, dual boot with win7 on ThinkPad T400, I followed Ubuntu update hints and installed some update for my ATI Radeon graphic card, but when I boot to Ubuntu(means I can still load GRUB), the tragedy happened, the screen goes to blank and no matter what key stroke, I can not get any responds, I try to go to text terminal, but impossible! However when I hit the power button, the computer would pop out the Ubuntu shutdown screen briefly and shut down. I figure out I should delete the updates package of my graphic card, but I don't even get a chance to go to text terminal, please help me!

  I got a problem. I'm willing to dual boot ubuntu 12.04 on my desktop. After i made a bootable USB ubuntu on it i'm going to install it. I boot it and I choose Install ubuntu roughly said. The problem is the following, It seems that when i press enter to start the install he switches of to my intergrated graphic card. I looked up in my bios what my primary graphic card selection is and it was on PCI Express (the option it supossed to be). So I'm clueless right now. I don't know how to fix this because I'm quite learning linux atm (school and by myself). Your faithfully, Clenn

• Western Digital HDD now freezes my BIOS when loading the video card!

  After I have successively and successfully installed 3 Windows XP's on the same partition (Don't ask why...), I restarted my computer again and the BIOS just froze when it loaded the video card. Together with my uncle, we tracked down the problem and found out it's the HDD's fault. We tried booting without the HDD and it worked! (No other HDD (I have only one) but with a Ubuntu Live CD in.) We tried the HDD with a different data bus (It was from an identical computer) but that one didn't let my BIOS recognize the HDD. We also put the HDD in another computer as the second HDD and it DID recognize it but Windows XP kept saying it cannot install a driver and that it installed successfully. Happily, I have managed to backup some of my most important files in that other computer. The following is a list of tests that we have run. With the HDD Original data bus Original computer Result: BIOS freezes WITHOUT the HDD Original data bus Original computer Result: Everything works just fine! With the HDD ANOTHER data bus Original computer Result: Cannot see the HDD With the HDD Original data bus ANOTHER computer Result: It worked! With the HDD ANOTHER data bus ANOTHER computer Result: It worked! During the tests, we had only two data buses and two computers. (each data bus from it's own computer) Strange thing is that the second data bus cannot let the BIOS see the HDD in my computer but works just fine with the other computer. I beg you to help me! I have my most important data on that HDD and I really cannot afford to buy another decent IDE HDD now!

• No sound card detected [elementary os]

  h61 I set up a computer for my parents with elementary os. I installed an Asus P8H61-I motherboard which contains an integrated Realtek ALC887 sound card. The system doesn't recognize the sound card. Here are the results of some commands: lspci | grep audio doesn't return anything, alsa force-reload return Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: (none loaded). Loading ALSA sound driver modules: (none to reload). aplay -l no soundcard detected and cat /proc/asound/cards let me know that asound doesn't exist. I tried installing Realtek drivers but nothing happened. Here is a log from alsa : Log Can someone help me? Thanks.
