• C# winforms Picturebox, backgroundimage zoomed at the top?

  I have a picturebox where I set change the BackgroundImage frequently. I have a the BackgroundImageLayout set to Zoom. The problem is that when an image does not have the same scale as the picturebox, the picture is drawn in the middle. That is, the top and the bottom padding of the picturebox is always the same. I would like for the BackgroundImage to always be aligned at the top. What is the easiest and most performance efficient way of doing this? I can add that I download the images from the internet. If you think that the best way to deal with this is to resize them at that point I can do that :)

• Emacs: selective c-auto-newline

  When c-auto-newline is set to non-nil, it re-indents the current line and inserts a carriage return and then indents the new line. However. I'm using 1TBS indent-style, which means if/else statements are made like this: if (n == 1) { exit(EXIT_SUCCESS); } else { perror("n"); } Also, I write do/while write loops like this: do { printf("%d\n", n++); } while (n < 64); As such, while I do want a newline automatically inserted after every opening brace and semicolon, I don't want newlines to be automatically inserted after an if statement or do loop is concluded with a closing brace. How can I have GNU Emacs (23.2.1, *nix) selectively insert newlines like that? Along the same lines, can I have Emacs insert an opening brace, a newline, and a closing brace on another newline, while putting the cursor in the middle of the two braces after closing parentheses following an if statement, function declaration, and the like?

• SSRS 2005 Matrix and border styles when exporting to XLS

  The Matrix in SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services 2005) seems to have issues with certain the border styles when exporting to XLS (but not PDF or web view; maybe other formats, not sure?). For example: Create a matrix and set the Matrix border style to Black Solid 1px, but all 4 of the cells to have a border style of Black None 1px. When viewed via the ASP.NET control, it looks correct. But after export to XLS, it creates borders around all of the header cells (column and row headers, and the top left cell), and even the right most data column. But all the cells in the middle of the report correctly have no border set. Update: If the Matrix borders are set to None, then the borders on the cells don't show up in XLS. So, how do you set an outer border around the Matrix, but not have it apply the 'all sides' border to every cell that touches the edge of the Matrix when exported to Excel?

  I am using insertBefore under errorplacement to add validation messages, each one below each other as I want the order of the messages to go from top to bottom. I am using a hidden input at the very bottom of a parent element in order to supply an element for the insertBefore argument. Is there a way to insert from the bottom without using the dummy hidden element? If I use absolute positioning, there is a possibility for white space, for example 3 stacked messages, the middle one missing since there is no collapsing with absolute positioning.

• Set UIViewController background to transparent

  I'm calling a UIViewController from a button on the main view. I have set the alpha of the view to 50%. When the view animates in, I can see that it's transparent. As soon as the animation stops, it becomes opaque. In the xib, when I set opacity, it's sets the opacity over white. So if I set the color to black and the opacity to 50%, this is what I see when I click the button on the main interface to show the view: view slides up from bottom at 50% opacity. I can see the underlaying view through the transparent black nicely. when view stops animating, it become gray. it appears that a white color pops in the background of the view somehow, making the 50% opacity black over white turn gray. I can no longer see the underlaying layer. What I'm trying to do: show 100% white text on a 50% transparent black layer which sits over the view that called this view. How on earth do I do this? • Magento: Getting Product Url's for Products within a Grouped Product

  For a grouped product, I would like to display a link to the simple products it is composed of. • UISplitView show different views in the detail pane

  How can I change the view in the Details pane of the UISplitView so that its a completely different view? Im having a fair amount of trouble understanding how its all wired up and where things should go at the moment, could someone please enlighten me? What I would love to be able to do is to show a specific view based on what the user has selected in the UITableView on the left pane (this view could be an image, or a more complex view of a news article, etc... many different options) then when the user turns the iPad into portrait view, that view that was in the details pane changes to be its equivalent portrait view version. Does this make sense? How on earth would I do that? Just to brainstorm, here is what I was thinking: Create a Split View project Create 2 NIBs for each view: (with accompanying view controllers???) * PortraitNewsStory * LandscapeNewsStory * PortraitImageBrowser * LandscapeImageBrowser * etc... Create a UISplitView control using XCode Capture when a user rotates the iPad (should this be done in the RootViewController.m ?) • Using SAS Macro to pipe a list of filenames from a Windows directory

  I am trying to amend the macro below to accept a macro parameter as the 'location' argument for a dir command. However I cannot get it to resolve correctly due to the nested quotes issue. Using %str(%') does not work, neither do quoting functions for some reason. The macro will work fine when the filepath has no spaces (eg C:\temp\withnospace) as the middle quotes aren't needed. However I need this macro to work for filepaths with spaces (eg 'C:\temp\with space\'). • Looking for a good world map generation algorithm

  I'm working on a Civilization-like game and I'm looking for a good algorithm for generating Earth-like world maps. I've experimented with a few alternatives, but haven't hit on a real winner yet. One option is to generate a heightmap using perlin noise and add water at a level so that about 30% of the world is land. While perlin noise (or similar fractal-based techniques) are frequently used for terrain and is reasonably realistic, it doesn't offer much in the way of control over the number, size and position of the resulting continents, which I'd like to have from a gameplay perspective. A second option is to start with a randomly positioned one-tile seed (I'm working on a grid of tiles), determine the desired size for the continent and each turn add a tile that is horizontally or vertically adjacent to the existing continent until you've reached the desired size. Repeat for the other continents. This technique is part of the algorithm used in Civilization 4. The problem is that after placing the first few continents, it's possible to pick a starting location that's surrounded by other continents, and thus won't fit the new one. Also, it has a tendency to spawn continents too close together, resulting in something that looks more like a river than continents. • How do I change the frame position for a custom MKAnnotationView?

  I am trying to make a custom annotation view by subclassing MKAnnotationView and overriding the drawRect method. I want the view to be drawn offset from the annotation's position, somewhat like MKPinAnnotationView does it, so that the point of the pin is at the specified coordinates, rather than the middle of the pin. So I set the frame position and size as shown below. However, it doesn't look like I can affect the position of the frame at all, only the size. The image ends up being drawn centered over the annotation position. Any tips on how to achieve what I want? • Windows Workflow Foundation - Application-Integrated Debugging

  I've got a typical n-tier app that has a heavy workflow component to it, so I'm interested in using WWF. There's a server-side piece that runs as a Windows Service, and there's the client-side piece written in Silverlight. To have a really great, seamlessly integrated experience for my users, what I want is to incorporate both a workflow designer and a workflow debugger into the application. Not Visual Studio, but something tightly integrated right into the app itself. Using the Silverlight client, the user (probably more of a power user) can design workflows. But not only that, they can open a debugger from within the Silverlight client, set breakpoints (which are really remote breakpoints back to the Windows Service), catch in-process workflows, and step through them. Wouldn't that be great? I think I have some idea how I might go about incorporating an integrated designer (use a Silverlight diagramming component, save the diagram to .XAML, parse the .XAML to re-create the diagram, etc., etc.) but how on Earth would I do the debugger? I have no idea how I would do that part. Is there some kind of debugging support engineered into WWF?

• WPF Toolkit Datagrid - how do you turn selection off?

  I have a datagrid in WPF that I am binding to an object. I have a DataGridCheckBoxColumn on there which I want the users to be able to go through and tick the ones they want. Problem is they have to click twice, once for selection then again to check/uncheck. How on earth do you turn this off, I've been searching for way to long to find the answer to this. The datagrid has SelectionMode and SelectionUnit properties - neither of which accept 'none' or 'go away' Any help is appreciated! • De-dupe a list of hundreds of thousands of first name/last name/address/date of birth

  I have a large data set which I know contains many dupicate records. Basically I have data on first name, last name, different address components and date of birth. I think the best way to do this is to use the name and date of birth as chances are if these things match, it's the same person. There are probably lots of instances where there are slight differences in spelling (like typos missing a single letter) or use of name (ie: some might have a middle initial in first name column) which would be good to account for, but I'm not sure how to approach this. Are there any tools or articles on going about this process? The data is all in a MySQL database and I have a basic proficiency in SQL.

  I just started learning Common Lisp a few days ago, and I'm trying to build a function that inserts a number into a tree. I'm getting an error, * - SYSTEM::%EXPAND-FORM: (CONS NIL LST) should be a lambda expression From googling around, it seems like this happens when you have too many sets of parenthesis, but after looking at this for an hour or so and changing things around, I can't figure out where I could be doing this. But when I give input like equal([1,2,3],X)., it doesn't show all possible values of X. instead the program hangs in the middle. What could be the reason?

  How come when I have a div style at display: block; float: right, in IE6 the div still goes under the text, and not in the middle of it just floated to the right. It works in all other browsers, including IE7+. I need to have display block because if i do display inline, then the menu inside the div is all messed up. .content { display: block; } .float { width: 150px; display: block; float: right; } .nothing { display: inline; } the float class is not to the right of nothing class, its under it in IE6, know a fix?

  I need to create a UIToolbar that has two UIBarButtonItems. The 1st button must be centered and the 2nd item must be right aligned. I understand and use Flexible spacing and it works great when I need to balance buttons across the UIToolbar, but with only two buttons, I can't seem to perfectly center the middle button. I've even initialized the view.toolbarItems array with NSArray *items = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:fixed, flex, center_button, flex, right_button, nil]; and set fixed.width = right_button.width ... but still, the center_button is never perfectly centered.

• Bing maps silverlight control pushpin scaling problems.

  Baiscally my problem is that i've adapted a piece of code found here http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vemapcontroldev/thread/62e70670-f306-4bb7-8684-549979af91c1 which does exactly what I want it to do, that is scale some pushpin images according to the map's zoom level. The only problem is that I've adapted this code to run with the bing maps silverlight control (not virtual earth like in the original example) and now the images scale correclty, but they are repositioned and only reach the desired position when my zoom level is maximum. Any idea why? Help will be greatly appreciated :) Modified code below: var layer = new MapLayer(); map.AddChild(layer); //Sydney layer.AddChild(new Pin { ImageSource = new BitmapImage(new Uri("pin.png", UriKind.Relative)), MapInstance = map }, new Location(-33.86643, 151.2062), PositionMethod.Center); becomes something like layer.AddChild(new Pin { ImageSource = new BitmapImage(new Uri("pin.png", UriKind.Relative)), MapInstance = map }, new Location(-33.92485, 18.43883), PositionOrigin.BottomCenter); I am assuming it has something to do with a different way in which bing maps anchors its UIelements. • Excel export displaying '#####...'

  I'm trying to export an Excel database into .txt (Tab Delimited), but some of my cells are quite large. When I export into a txt some of the cells are exported as '#######....' which is surprisingly useless. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you know an easy fix? • Trouble with MySQL: CONCAT_WS(' ', name_first, name_middle, name_last) like '%keyword%'

  hey folks, I'm setting up a keyword search across multiple fields: name_first, name_middle, name_last but I'm not getting the results I'd like. Here's the query: "SELECT accounts_users.user_ID, users.name_first, users.name_middle, users.name_last, users.company FROM accounts_users, users WHERE accounts_users.account_ID = '$account_ID' AND accounts_users.user_ID = users.id AND CONCAT_WS(' ', users.name_first, users.name_middle, users.name_last) LIKE '$user_keyword%' ORDER BY users.name_first ASC" So, if I've got three names in the DB: Aaron J Ban Aaron J Can Bob L Lawblaw And if the user_keyword == "bob lawblaw" I get no result. If user_keyword == "bob L" then it returns Bob L Lawblaw. Obviously I can't force people to include the persons middle name in their keyword search but I'm stuck for the proper way to do this. All help is greatly appreciated.

  Hello everyone: I am trying to comprehend Perl following the way describe in the book "Minimal Perl". I've uploaded all source txt files onto my own server : results folder I got the output from using several bash commands in a "chain" like this: cat run*.txt | grep '^Bank[[:space:]]Balance'| cut -d ':' -f2 | grep -E '\$[0-9]+' I know this is far from the most concise and efficient, but at least it works... As our uni subject now moves onto the Perl part, I'd like to know if there is a way to get the same results in one line? I am trying something like the following code but stuck in the middle: Chenxi Mao@chenxi-a6b123bb /cygdrive/c/eMarket/output $ perl -wlne 'print; if $n=~/^Bank Balance/' syntax error at -e line 1, near "if $n" Execution of -e aborted due to compilation errors.

• Middleware for MongoDB or CouchDB with jQuery Ajax/JSON frontend

  I've been using the following web development stack for a few years: java/spring/hibernate/mysql/jetty/wicket/jquery For certain requirements, I'm considering switching to a NoSQL datastore with an AJAX frontend. I would probably build the frontend with jQuery and communicate with the web application middleware using JSON. I'm leaning toward MongoDB because of more dynamic query capabilities, but am still considering CouchDB. I'm not sure what to use in the middle. Probably something RESTful? My preference is to stick with Java (or maybe Scala or Groovy) since I'm using tools like Drools for rules and Shiro for security. But then again, I want to pick something that is quick an easy to work with, so I'm open to other solutions. If you are building ajax/json/nosql solutions, I'd like to hear details about what tools you are using and any pros/cons you've found to using them. Thanks!

• BlackBerry - Custom centered cyclic HorizontalFieldManager

  Trying to create a custom cyclical horizontal manager which will work as follows. It will control several field buttons where the buttons will always be positioned so that the focused button will be in the middle of the screen. As it is a cyclical manager once the focus moves to the right or left button, it will move to the center of the screen and all the buttons will move accordingly (and the last button will become the first to give it an cyclic and endless list feeling) Any idea how to address this? I tried doing this by implementing a custom manager which aligns the buttons according to the required layout. Each time moveFocus() is called I remove all fields (deleteAll() ) and add them again in the right order. Unfortunately this does not work.
