• Styling a list as tabs with a background overflowing into content

  I couldn't think of any better way to name this question, but I'll explain. I have a mediawiki website with a background pattern (like parchment) behind the articles. At the top of each article I want to have tabs like wikipedia does (with page | talk | edit etc links). The problem is, the tabs should seamlessly fit with the article's background and I can't figure out if this is actually possible. The way I was trying to do it was positioning the list inside the actual content div and give the <li items a transparent background, but as far as I can see there's no way to color the rest of the <ul's background black without affecting the <li's in there. • HTML: How to get a child element to show behind (lower z-index) than its parent

  I need for a certain dynamic element to always appear on top of another element, no matter what order in the DOM tree they are. Is this possible? I've tried z-index (with position: relative), and it doesn't seem to work. I hate to be vague, but this is the simplest way I can think of asking this question without explaining its purpose ad nauseum. So, to recap, I need <div class="a"> <div class="b"></div> </div> <div class="b"> <div class="a"></div> </div> To display exactly the same when rendered. And for flexibility purposes (I'm planning on distributing a plugin that needs this functionality), I'd really like to not have to resort to absolute or fixed positioning.

  Dear Guys I am somehow newbie and sometimes guru , but at this moment i don't have enough time to research My nightmare is , my boss ask me to create an interactive floor ( he just saw in an exhibition ) , he ask me to create one of them instead of buying , i am an actionscript crawler and developer with some skills in java and c# programming , i just made some track motion with a simple web cam , and this idea came to my mind if i can use an infrared or thermographic camera instead of simple camera so i can get better positioning if camera place at top of floor ! Now i just came here to ask you guys is there any resource , tip , help i can know before getting into this deal !? is there any lib or api out to deal with this ?! EVEN, if there is any resource , article from another language c++ , c , .... could help i just didn't have enough time to test lot of ways If you search interactive floors , or interactive floor projection you can find some companies who provide such a thing Thanks in advance ( and sorry for my damn poor english , français could be better :D )

• Fixed Position div Vertical Only

  I have a current web build with a right sidebar that is a fixed position. I have tried to positioning from the right but don't want it overlapping other divs content. What I am looking for is to have the content scrollable horizontally to the right when it is out of the viewport window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. similarly to this: http://demo.rickyh.co.uk/css-position-x-and-position-y/ however I can not get this working. This has been solved by alternative method. • Can a flex app (or a portion of a flex app) be made transparent to mouse clicks?

  I need to superimpose my Flex app above a plain HTML control on a web page, and be able to click through the Flex app to interact with the HTML control. Is there any way to do this? No permutation of mouseEnabled="false" or mouseChildren="false" seems to have the desired effect. Context: trying to integrate Google Earth API (JavaScript/HTML) with my flex app. I am leaving a portion of the flex app transparent and empty, and positioning the Google Earth widget just below that point in the z-index. Google Earth has to be behind flex, because there are some Flex controls periodically displayed in that space.

  I tied the iPad the other day, and was amazed about the precision of the geolocalization by ip. Actually there is this action against hunger in the world that shows you very precisely where the persons are located that have took part to this petition: http://www.1billionhungry.org/meodai/impact/ I would like to integrate that in one of my projects. I took a look at the source but i could not figure out how they did it. Can someone help me out? is there a web service for that? Is the google map api doing this or are they using an other service? PS: Its not just the country/region of your IP/ISP IP that the service gives back, its a pretty precise positioning.

• How to center drawableTop and text vertically on the Button in Android?

  I have the Button defined as follows: <Button android:drawableTop="@drawable/ico" android:gravity="center" android:id="@+id/StartButton2x2" android:text="@string/Widget2x2StartBtnLabel" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:background="@drawable/widgetbtn_bg" /> The problem is that 'drawableTop' image is aligned to the top border of the Button view. I would like to center it (together with text label) vertically on the button. 'android:gravity' seems to work only on text label. It does not affect 'drawableTop' positioning. I was able to center it vertically using 'android:paddingTop' - but that does not seem to be a good idea. I guess it would not work properly on different screen resolution/size.

  So I am using this to fix PNG transparency on background images in IE6 ul li a { background-image: url('/NewSite/Content/Images/Sprite.png'); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: 0 -48px; background-image: none; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src=/NewSite/Content/Images/Sprite.png, sizingMethod='crop'); } This works great, however I have run into a problem when trying to implement this with a sprite. The fix ignores the positioning and renders as if the position was top right. Is there a way to force background position or a better way to do this. I would prefer to not use JavaScript or change to gifs. Any help is appreciated!

• Circular dock/menu in css or jquery

  Is it possible to have a circular menu or dock using css or jquery.? I have a set of images as the dock items that need to be displayed as a circular dock... however the number of items in the dock are not constant and may vary.... so i cannot tend to use constant values for positioning each item in a pre-defined manner. Ajax loads some images into this particular div and i need to use css or jquery to style this so that they get displayed as circular dock items. Any idea on how this can be implemented..? I would like a browser in-specific implementation, but i also welcome if some one has some solutions specific to few browsers... UPDATE I don't think i exactly want a pie menu... it easily gets messed up as the number of dock items increase. I am looking for a spiral dock. and by spiral i mean that the menu items must be in the following alignment..

• Problem with layout of control when dynamically creating winform and controls for the Form

  I get this response from a web service call. Something like this <Response> <Control1 type = "DropdownList" value= "USA,UK,Sweden,UAE"/> <Control2 type = "Textbox" value= "Contries"/> <Control3 type = "Button" value= "None"> </Response> Based on this I de-serialize it into List<Controls>. Now I need to be able to dynamically create a winform based on these controls. My problem is the layout. I want to be able to create them nicely separated (If possible vertically aligned) in batches of lets say 5.So If I need 15 controls I have 3 columns and 5 rows. What would be best way to achieve this? I know that I can use the inbuilt positioning properties like top, width etc., but maybe someone out there has done something similar in a better way.

  I'm wanting to be able to create a banner of floating images based on what are uploaded via users. The tool needs to have images of 50x50 and 100x100. At the moment, I just want to randomly display the images and tried to apply float:left. However, as you can see below - it leaves gaps. Is there an easy way to do this without programatically positioning the images? • Adding buttons dynamically to a uitableviewcell - iPhone app

  I have a verb conjugation app that displays verb translations in the first cell of a table. At present the translation list is just a string (comma-separated list) but I'd like to change it to have clickable buttons. I had a play around adding buttons to the cell view without too much success but my only experience with custom cells has been using specific positioning so I'm unsure as to how to achieve a dynamic list of buttons (varying widths) within a cell. Problems like positioning, line drawing, line crossing and connecting, path finding, rubberband lines, and drag & drop are also identical in flow charts, UML diagrams, or class diagrams so I started by viewing related topics via Google and Stack Overflow. However, the following requirements seemed to keep me from finding anything that quite fit: assuming a chip has an image with input and output stubs, the connecting lines would connect to the chip only in the exact spots of the I/O stubs the color of connecting lines are able to be set as per a chip's output Is there an existing .NET 2d graphics library that would be suitable for drawing circuit diagrams?

  I'm writing a web page where I show a title and a date over some text. My HTML: <div class="post"> <h2>Post 1</h2> <span class="date">February 28, 2011</span> <div class="post-content"> ... </div> </div> My css: .post h2 { float: left; } .date { float: right; } .post-content { clear: both; } What I want to do is vertically align the title and date such that their bottoms match. Right now they don't: I tried wrapping the two text elements in a div, setting the div's position to relative, and using absolute positioning on the two text elements (and taking out the float declarations). That didn't work because the top margin is not preserved due to the wrapper div collapsing, even though I gave it a clearfix class.

  Given the above dynamically generated text (meaning that I can't just use an image), I am trying to recreate the design using just html and css selectors. I would like to just use a single h4 with the containing text, but am open to other solutions. I would prefer to not use absolute positioning, but again, if that is the only way, then so be it. I have tried surrounding with span tags, but those are inline elements that don't have an inherent width. The h4 will be nested within a div, though not always of the same class or id. Any ideas or resources to get me started?

  Consider the following snippet: $(document).bind('mousemove', function(e) { $('#someDiv').css({left: e.pageX+'px', top: e.pageY+'px'}); }); This should make #someDiv follow the mouse (tooltip), when the css value for "position" is set to absolute. Works as expected, except when you Zoom IN or OUT in IE7 ( dind't try other version of IE). Then the e.pageX gets completely off. The more you zoom in (using your mousewheel + CTRL), the more off the positioning gets. I've tried to break jQuery's UI demos (sliders) and it seems not even jQuery guys have this figured out. Is there any genius out there who knows how to fix this nasty thing? Thanks in advance!

  The best way to illustrate this question is with...a Fiddle! Before you visit the fiddle, notice there is text behind the grayest element, which is on top of a light gray element that has a border. There is a main wrapping div (root), and two wrapping divs inside (wrap1 and wrap2). The problem here is that I need the content of wrap2 (highlight) to be behind the content of wrap1 (text), but in front of the background of the root. This, however, must not change: The HTML, the elements and wraps should be left untouched. Excluding the order of wrap1 and wrap2 inside root. The highlight div must keep the absolute positioning. Styling highlight with background-color is not an option, the existence of highlight is a must. PS: the italics reference the id's of <div>s in the fiddle example, for whomever was too lazy to visit it.

• How to change the pop-up position of the jQuery DatePicker control

  Any idea how to get the DatePicker to appear at the end of the associated text box instead of directly below it? What tends to happen is that the text box is towards the bottom of the page and the DatePicker shifts up to account for it and totally covers the text box. If the user wants to type the date instead of pick it, they can't. I'd rather have it appear just after the text box so it doesn't matter how it adjusts vertically. Any idea how to control the positioning? I didn't see any settings for the widget, and I haven't had any luck tweaking the CSS settings, but I could easily be missing something.

• 3d movement around a sphere

  Hey guys, Im working in 3d for the first time in a long time. Basically im rotating a sphere and projecting x y z cords to place things on the surface based on the spheres X and Y rotation. Heres the code im using: #define piover180 0.01745329252f GLfloat cosy = cos(yrot * piover180); island[i].x = rad * sin(xrot * piover180)* cosy; island[i].y = rad * sin(yrot * piover180); island[i].z = rad * cos(xrot * piover180) * cosy; Problem is the Xrot positioning works fine but the Yrot placement always draw the objects into the north and south pole so they all cross at the top, which isnt correct for rotating. • Specific position for tooltip

  Hello, I have a layer which opens up as a tooltip everytime I hover a button. I simply did that by creating a JS function which displays or hides the layer. Now, I am not a pro in JavaScript. My problem is the following: when the button is scrolled towards the top oft he screen I want the tooltip opening below – and if the button is near the bottom of the screen I want the tooltip opening above. Right now I just did it with absolute positioning. But obviously that doesnt do the trick. Who can help? Thanks!

Sure, a good positioning of these media files, create an aesthetic value but how important is it to the user ? moreover, aren't people looking for information after all ? why can't the internet be a uniform looking data warehouse ? now we've gotta digg through all the aesthetic junk, using shady web scraping techniques, unless RSS or API is provided. why can't we settle for just a dull grey button and framesets for navigation ? why can't all sites have navigation frame on the left and top ? why can't all sites put their damn data always in normalized table tag ?

• How should i draw text and shapes in wpf and C#?

  I want to do basic WPF graphics, i.e. rectangles, lines, circles and text. When should I use Drawing and when should I use a DrawingVisual? I have some code that uses Drawing and I render those to a DrawingImage and display that in an image control. Is this the right way? I could not see how to add text to a drawing. I had trouble positioning it too. Should I be rendering to a Canvas? I have some code that uses DrawingVisual and writes to a DrawingContext. That is like WinForms. Is this the recommended way? Do you have any high level advice on which APIs to use for basic graphics and labels? Will they options work on Silver Light and Desktop?
